Tbh until the video was slowed down and zoomed in on the tires I never saw the difference. It’ll be interesting to see if people say they feel a difference. I think I feel a difference but my wheelbase also got a firmware update so idk if it’s that or iRacing

You can feel the difference even without FFB. If you ride the entry kerb you'll find you struggle to turn in. Before it turned in the same as if it were on the track.

      @@layingblacklines cool! Good to know!

iRacing finally removing the canned FFB effects for curbs. Really nice to see. Unfortunately it's only on a couple of tracks. lol.

Loving it!!!! First LFM, now this....... Assetto Corsa keeps getting better and better, thank to modders 😊

Umm this is iracing and not assetto corsa.

Assetto Corsa always had 3D kerbs. iRacing was the only sim to lack it, I think because the track building tools dated back to the 90s. But they've done some work to the tools to make it easier to create 3D kerbs so now iRacing joins the other sims. It's still exciting to me because it does make a difference in racing line.

So this is how iRacing cheated :) My Okayama for AC has 3d curbs since its begining 2017.

Except curbs in AC are the absolute worst physics aspect of the entire game... maybe they should have stuck to 2D curbs 😅

All sims have 3D kerbs dating back well before 2017. It's been a long time coming, which is why I celebrated it with a video. Unfortunately with no visible tyre flex it makes it hard to demonstrate, but I think you can still see it.

ok, but what about the motion of the wheels on the kerbs? still shit

Look at the back wheel at 3:49, no the best, not the worst. I think it's an improvement.

No one is gonna notice this when they’re racing lol.

Yeah I think that's just because tyre deflection is not visually shown. I think the tyres just clip under the track, rather than compressing like they do in other sims. Most of the action is absorbed by the tyres here, so without that it's quite hard to see the difference visually. It's a shame, but I think this is something we will see improve. Much like we don't have flat spots due to the limitation in the tyre just being one homogenous surface that does not rotate. When a rolling contact patch is fully modelled they will be able to visually show the tyre deflecting.
You can definitely feel this though. Think of 2D kerbs where you can brake in a straight line right on top of them and turn in without issue. It's like an extension of the track if you ignore the FFB rumble. Now try that at say Mugello on the way into Arrabbiata 1 or 2 (the kerbs on the left before turn in) and you'll run on wide.

I would love for them to visibly show carcass flex like you see in other sims. I think there are issues with the contact patch model being static, which is also why we can't have flat spots yet. But changes are due to be made to this I think, so I think it would be great if they could visually show the flex too.

So far it feels exactly the same. I have tried several cars at mugello and okayama and the kerbs feel exactly as before the update. Probably one of the most underwhelming feature updates iracing has made. I am using a leo bodnar v2.

You've never driven the kerbs at Mugello before and they've replaced the canned effects with physics derived effects... they aren't the same. I'm not using a leo bodnar v2.

@@RobinHood-yk8og The kerbs feel exactly the same as before. They can say all they want about canned effects and physics derived bull shit. I was hoping for rf2 level of kerbs at the very least.

@@jeffmattel7867 The FFB rate isn't a high enough resolution to do that. But the car reacts to kerbs now. I mainly notice it on entry. Previously on iRacing you could ride entry kerbs with no drama. Now not so much.
