One of the biggest factors in EGO battery health is the battery temp. Charging indoors after resting has made a huge improvement in my batteries performance.
Soon as I watched this video, I immediately bring my 2 EGO batteries in from the freezing cold garage. Ego mover and Trimmer serves me well for the last 5 years despite my neglect. Ebike battery also in now, more money than the EGO. Thanks for the advice.
Long time EGO user.. thanks for the tips. Would be great if their chargers had an alarm when done charging so we don't leave them on the charger which I do all the time. I've got a couple different chargers. What wattage do you consider a fast charger?
I've been doing this with my batteries since day one. Still using my original 7.5ah dated 2017. Though it does not have full capacity anymore it still works. I basically never use the fast charger Another good tip: After finished using tool/batt and have rested it 30 min or more to cool, I will charge it back up to about 50%. Then it can sit until the next time I need it and then fully charge it right before I need to cut the grass again. This is also important to do when done for the season and the batteries mostly sit over the winter. LiOn batteries don't like to be fully charged or discharged for an extended period of time.
I bought two Ego weed Wackers, I liked the first one so I bought another kit because I needed a extra battery and it was smart for me to get a new weed Wacker than a battery by itself.
I like your videos. For the chainsaw instead of the backpack link, I think buying the "hip" attachment for the top handle saw and just laying that on the ground is best. Very little weight added and it is setup to not be cut with a chainsaw. Or just put the hip attachment in a book bag and wear a book bag on your back.
I was wondering about the backpack. If you used a 4ah battery on the Power Shovel and find that a bit heavy would using the battery pack be significantly lighter on the power tool handle or is the link the same weight as a 4ah battery?
I appreciate your response! I recently bought the snow shovel to use this season in Tennessee. I didn't know that the tool would be as heavy as it is with the battery on. Coming up on 70 soon I don't have the upper body strength I used to have and when I saw you mention the back pack I thought maybe that could be useful. ☺️
Yes it is a heavy tool and I understand as we age we definitely lose muscle. The other thing you can think of is getting a single stage snowblower. It’s easier to push. Do you get a lot of snow?
No we don't usually get but 2 to 3 inches which lasts a few days. However, last year we had close to 10 in one snowfall and it kinda shut things down around here for a couple of weeks. I thought the power snow shovel would be the perfect solution because we don't get enough snow annually to justify a regular large blower.
Thank You. Great video. Great tips.Common sense dictates that keeping the batteries in the recommended temperature range is the key to getting longer life out of them. And always use the right battery for the right job. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
Great information on extending battery life. I own an Ego power station and several tools. I'm going to make some changes in storage and charging. Thanks.
Love all the tip and really love that now that this video is out, your able to now educate the new generation of people who are going to youtube to see about these new machines and the battery’s that power them, i can tell you 7-8 years ago, we didn’t have anything like this and nw we have a treasure trove, always a great video my friend a nd keep on going and making even more and more awesome videos
@@TechMadeEzyall has been well, ive been playing catch up on all the UA-camrs over the subscribed too, now thats summer is free i will be able to catch up on your videos more frequently and hopefully drops. Comment along with that like, hope all has been well my friend, prayers for Brooklyn who is in doggy heaven
I was wondering if those were any good. FYI there is a lot of engineering and technology that goes into into the OEM battery. Cooling fins, heat protection, insulation between the batteries. EGO has a video on that which is worth watching.
I really wouldn't use those man. I know the temptation, but those things can burn your house down. Like voice of reason mentioned below, that additionally engineering could honestly save your house if you accidentally leave the battery on the charger when you're not home.
Do you have any thoughts or different recommendation regarding the 1600 watt smart charger that comes with the zero turn mowers? It charges directly on the mower like a Tesla charger and charges up to 6 batteries simultaneously
I absolutely love any of your videos. Always very interesting and good video and information. I wanted to tell you that I love always seeing Brooklyn in your videos and please remember that she is always and forever in you and your family's hearts and minds moving forward as you move forward together. Thank you for sharing her with your fans.❤
Great video filled with great information. I fell in love with Ego several years ago and still have my original 7.5 battery and funny enough, it is lasting longer than my newer fuel gauged 7.5. I always store then indoors and try to follow the charging methods you outlined. The 2.5 batteries are getting fairly worn out these days and don't last too long in the trimmer like they used to.
Lol, welp, I was doing none of these except taking them in during the winter. I immediately went out into the garage and removed the batteries just sitting in the tools and on the chargers and found some proper storage for them when not in use. Thank you for all of the tips! I'm not sure if this is a good one to add, but I have bought two additional batteries from Facebook marketplace that were brand new and for about half the price. Buyer beware, of course, but they were excellent sellers.
When the 7.5AH battery is fully charged (full green lights on charger and battery), should you leave it on the charger until the fan stops or take it off the charger immediately? I'm thinking the fan is continuing to cool the battery? PS, you are the reason I purchased my mower and I thank you in my mind each and every time I do NOT have to tighten the bolts on my gas mower handle, battle the wasps in the shed, fill the mower with gas and try to pull that handle. Battery in, handle up, push the button and GO! Thank you!
Extremely helpful. I do not have a heated or air conditioned area for my garden tools. I am currently using a gas lawn mower. With winter storage I am lucky to get 3-4 years on a starting battery. I currently have some tools from Greenworks 80v. Very disappointing. I do keep the batteries inside when not being used and have had them several years. I was looking at the Zero Turn Mower. Less than a year later, it was no longer available, but an 82v was. The batteries were not compatible. I do really like the Weed Whacker for the power and the fact that it is fairly quite.
Loved the video, thank you! That said, I'm surprised EGO doesn't offer a charger with a "capacity/load test" feature, that uses the same/similar LCD display from the EGO lawnmower(!?) That (imho) would be a super popular/hot seller for EGO!
Thank you for your videos. Thank you for all the tips, such as allowing the battery to rest after charging and removing the battery from the tool or charger. I have purchased two EGO products. One is the new HT2601 Hedge Trimmer and the other is the LBPX8006-2 Backpack blower with two batteries and as you advised I purchased the kits that contained batteries and chargers. The blower is overkill at this time of the year, but will be needed in the autumn, so I will also get a smaller, hand held blower. ( Our California community is being forced into the conversion from gas powered tools to electric tools.) Charging batteries is always challenging because there are so many opinions, and they cannot all be correct. My new iPhone has a setting to limit the charging to 80% which claims to extend the battery life, and only to charge it to 100% if it will be heavily used or away from a charger. ( sorry TMI ) Finally here is my question: If I use only 30 - 60 % of the batteries power, should I top it off before I use it again or should I try to get it down to 10-15% before recharging? I have only used the blower twice and still have two light bars on one battery and three bars on the other battery. Some people used to talk about "battery Memory" and that a battery should be brought as low as possible before recharging and that unnecessarily topping off was bad for the battery and maybe old knowledge does not apply to the new battery technology. I am almost a complete novice at all of this so any advice will be much appreciated. Maybe the topping off recharging question is covered in your upcoming battery video. Thank You again 🙂 💚
I was asking that because if you already have their tools, I know they make a mower. I’ll be honest I’ve never reviewed their mowers, but normally you want to try sticking in one platform. But I would definitely say ego makes good mowers
I kinda agree with sticking with one platform. (I just took inventory; I have TEN EGO tools!). However; the reason I added Greenworks to my arsenal; is because of the physical SIZE of the tools. I consider that a void in EGO's lineup. I wanted a couple of smaller/lightweight chainsaws; EGO doesn't offer anything like that. I also wanted a little/big saw; if you get my drift. The 40v Greenworks battery is comparatively tiny; against the EGO 56v. Thereby enabling a very compact 14" chainsaw. Does it have the power of the EGO 14" saw? I doubt it. But again; I didn't want a big/little saw; I wanted a little/big one. I have seven Greenworks tools; and 'love' each of them.
I wish they would have a way to manually activate the batteries’ self-discharge function - I would prefer to bring them down to 40% for storage. I keep them fully charged during winter and when major storms are forecasted, but that leaves them self-discharge maybe once or twice a year.
Don’t be, the four amp hour battery is fine. Don’t be discouraged. It does the job. Also, that isn’t an old battery that is the new generation. It has the power. Thanks for watching the video.
The 6ah battery is included in the t6 riding mower so I wonder if they have a higher discharge capability than most. Interested if some use 18650 cells whole others use 21700 cells. The 5ah seems like a good all around battery for most tools: powerful enough but not too heavy for tools like the string trimmer.
The 5ah battery is NOT powerful enough to run the CSX5000 chainsaw; it comes with an 8ah battery. The 5ah WILL run it; but not at it's fastest speed. Idk about the CS2000 chainsaw; IT comes with the 6ah battery.
I have an inverter that has 4 x 7.5ah batteries. I use these for my DIY electric motor trike. I’ve tested it over 1500w+. People should understand that these batteries are a 14s configuration, which is the same as any generic 52v ebike battery. However, the amperage draw limits might not be the same. If one is handy, one can convert their tools to be powered by a 52v ebike battery. In my case, I went the opposite because I already had them. I use them for my garden tools as well. They serve a dual purpose. I build ebikes/etrikes and is experience with solar and other various electrical jobs
Great info Al, thank you. I have a lot of the tools and all but my 10ah are out of warranty. 1 year left on 10ah. All my tools get used and I’m happy to say are in great shape. Certainly don’t need new equipment. I understand Ego giving a discount on tool kits to get more customers in. But I hope that they decide it’s a good idea to start planning to keep current users in the ecos. I would love to see them start a trade in service where they give a coupon for purchase of a new battery and then they recycle them. Or maybe even start selling recycled/refurbished batteries with trade in. I believe this type of sales process will also keep customers from buying generic ego batteries…which I already feel Ego is loosing sales on. Good or bad as generic batteries may be, many will decide to save the money to buy them. Anyways Al, I have made this suggestion but I’m not a UA-cam influencer so if you like this idea and know a way to present this-have at it sir. Thank you and keep up the good videos you do.
I agree. Trade ins/refurbishing/selling recycled batteries would be a great thing to keep customers away from the knock offs sold on Amazon (I must admit I bought a couple of them).
I bought a knock off 12ah one. When it arrived; I thought there was a mistake; (there was; they lied!), it was the same size as my 5ah EGO batteries. Which is what it really was. Works great; as a 5ah one. I protested to the manufacturer; and they refunded my purchase; AND let me keep the battery!
@TechMadeEzy question for you since you have a few of the ego mowers. Looking at a 2150 or a 2200. Is the turbo worth it? Have the 2100sp now and would like the extra suction from the more powerful newer mowers.
@troybalster3687 hey Troy I’m currently working on reviewing the new aluminum deck mower. It’s almost done that should help you with the answer to that question. I just can’t answer it right now.
@TechMadeEzy cool waiting for the review then. Ohh btw if you can use one of your 7.5 ah batteries in the 2206 would like to see how long it lasts relatively.
I have two tools and four batteries. One 2.5 ah , 2 5ah and 1 12ah ( aftermarket). The tools are a lawnmower and a blower. The lawnmower came with the 5ah and the fast charger. The blower was equipped with the 2.5ah and the standard charger. All of my tools were purchased in 2019 .The aftermarket battery was just purchased. I am going to be using your recommended procedures now and I hope to be getting some more life out of them. I’m making the move to store them inside now.
I don't need my lawn looking like a putting green. One of the main features of my EGO mower is the crazy light weight! I'm sure the power of the model that comes with the 10ah battery is impressive; but I can cut the back yard with a generic 5ah battery; and the front with the 7.5ah. I never used to like cutting the yard; now I look forward to it; and that's after three years of use!
The most important tip which u left out is true for all lithium ion batteries which is to only charge to 50% if u are storing and only charge to full just before you are about to discharge it. Btw anyone tell u that’s sound like Howard stern?
The EGO batteries will automatically discharge to around 35% if they haven't been used for about 30 days. NEVER charge EGO batteries to 100% just before you use them. Charging them heats them up. Do not immediately use a hot battery in any device. Much better to charge batteries several hours before using them (even the day before).
Any tips for storing the batteries for the winter in a cold climate? I leave mine in the basement as mentioned but are they OK not being charged for a few months and just sitting?
Basement should be fine as long as it's not freezing don't leave the battery on concrete put it on something and make sure the charge is about 50% after a month or so the battery will do itself maintenance you'll see the lights flashing don't worry about it it'll put it in a deep sleep. When you're ready to use it just give it a full charge
Great tips on maintaining battery life! I didn’t find the battery model numbers or recommended battery for each tool to be very valuable. The pace is slow, you can easily watch on 2x speed.
I do buy my batteries with a kit 599 for the kit. Keep the battery and sell the mower for 350-450 and you end up getting a battery for a couple hundred dollars. I sold the lawnmower because I already have one.
Hi good question when you’re storing the batteries, I would leave them at about a 50% charge that’s fine and keep in mind. They will self maintain so you’re gonna see the lights flashing. They’re gonna bring the battery down to about 30% and then go into a hibernation mode don’t worry about that. When you’re ready to use them, go ahead and fully charge them and you’ll be fine. They’re pretty smart batteries.
I was wondering if you could help me I just bought the leaf blower which came with the battery and charger. It's July 2024. The date on the battery is Sept 2023. It's almost been one year since battery was made. That means that it's been setting an Amazon warehouse for almost a year. Do you think that the battery has lost power because it's been sitting for a year. I bought it brand new. I like I said the battery has been sitting around for about a year I assume an Amazon's Warehouse what do you think
Hey buddy, I’m being honest with you. You have nothing to worry about. It’s almost impossible to buy a product and get a battery that’s dated very close. Actually, the only way to do that is to buy a brand new product that just launches . Just make sure you go on the website and register your warranty and you will have a full warranty Thanks for reaching out and thanks for being on our channel
Hi it comes with 2 x 7.5ah It doesn’t require 10ah to run sport mode. See our detailed review and battery testing ua-cam.com/video/1Zlo_8IV9BE/v-deo.htmlsi=3HDJPQ3vfFQzG7Xf
For a long time, I have wondered and wanted information on how to use, store and charge Ego batteries. Yes, I have always bought my Ego tools with battery because the battery is much cheaper. My 10aH with my new aluminum deck mower is sitting in the fast charger unplugged. I will remove it. The one question that was not addressed was how long a battery can sit unused (off the charger) and is there a rough battery percentage ??? Of my 6 Ego batteries, only my new 10aH has the fuel gage %. Should I rotate batteries of the same amp hour where some don't get used or at least for a very long time ?? ... Great review, it is much needed !!!
Thanks bro Good question I haven’t seen any maintenance advice in the manual. Many power station manufacturers with lithium batteries actually tell you to cycle the battery every certain amount of months. If you’ve got batteries that you’re not using then yeah I would probably rotate them.
Can batteries be mixed in one tool? My mower has 4 10AH batteries in it. Can I fill the last two slots with 12AH batteries (so the mower will have 4 10AHs and 2 12AHs)?
Hi 👋🏼 Im assuming you have a zero turn mower? If it came with 10ah batteries then the answer is yes no problem. The batteries you are putting in are higher amp hour so that’s fine. I wish I had more land I’d love to own one of those
@@TechMadeEzy Yep. It's their 42" Zero Turn Mower. According to their marketing, those 4 10ah batteries are supposed to be able to let it mow 3 acres. In the early spring, when we had the PTO running fairly slowly, it was able to do about 1-1/2 acres. Now, with higher grass and the PTO running full out, we can mow only about 1 acre. So, time to add some battery. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the video. I have 2 batteries still showing green but not working. Do you recommend a way to clean the battery terminals? I spoke to EGO Support (if you want to call it that) and they state you should NOT use EGO batteries on different products. That defeats the idea of swapping out the batteries.
I thought I read somewhere from Ego or heard somewhere that if you’re going to store your batteries through the winter and not use them for months at a time you should only charge them back up to about 50% and store them at that percentage I’d rather than all the way charged. Is this correct? If so, why did you not cover it in your video or did I just miss it?
I did a two part series. I’m not sure if you saw the second video, but I definitely covered it. EGO Battery Charging Times Battery Storage and Battery Self Maintenance ua-cam.com/video/6y4_lxQMclw/v-deo.html
So they don’t recommend going for a lower mAh than recommended for each unit, but what about going higher? Like if I had a few machines and just bought 3 10mAh batteries to use on a mower, chainsaw, and auger for example, is that fine or should I get a 10 mAh, a 2.5 mAh, and a 4 mAh batteries for each unit?
Hi Al, I have had the batteries from 2014 with a total of 13 now and all work great. Slow charging and all the same info you gave in the video. I use a DC volt meter mounted on an adapter bought from Amazon and keep track of the batteries as I use them. When they get to about 50 volts, I then start charging them after a wait time and cooling with a fan blowing through them, since cooling is the key on all these batteries.
It’s a nice unit. We did a good review on it. I’ll give you two links below. One of them is going to be the review. We did the other will be for the bear tool which is $305 or you can get the unit with a five amp hour battery and a charger for $499 Video we did ua-cam.com/video/vzrZEC0CFK4/v-deo.htmlsi=ZpvabwKaXUqGfBD7 Bare tool also see options for kit amzn.to/4eSaBYi
I’m so sorry about Brooklyn. It’s very difficult. I still miss my German Shepherd Tabitha so bad and she passed 7 years ago. They say time heals all wounds, but I don’t think it does. Maybe adjust makes it a little easier to live with but when you’re attached to an animal so much, you will never forget them ever always miss them.
Very nice video, thanks for that. Do you consider the Nexus like a charger? I dedicate 2 10 amp batteries for that tool and leave it on the Nexus, the idea is to always have the max power of my batteries when I need it, especially when I lost power from the grid
I just recently made a purchase of a 2 pack of the 12 amp hours. The two 6 amp hours that came with my power washer are nice but the run time with them is simply lacking for such a power washer. Other than those, I only have 3 of the 2.5 amp hours that came with basic kits of other tools. Still though, the collection is sure to grow as I collect more ego stuff! I REALLY would like to get my hands on one of those Nexus generators next
You mentioned not to leave the batteries on the charger for storage. Can you leave them on the charger for storage as long as the charger is disconnected? Thanks.
Thanks I have been leaving one on the charger unplugged so I’ll be sure to remove it.I also just purchased a new Ego lawnmower with the quick charger but I won’t use it as my primary charger as you recommended.
Would it be advisable to just buy a single 12Ah batt to run a mower, blower, and string trimmer? Might as well just go with a single battery instead of spending more for multiple, yeah?
My experience around 3 to 6 days after that you start losing a charge and then it’ll start going into self maintenance mode where it’ll actually drain the battery on its own.
When my batteries are exhausted; I don't 'wait' for them to cool down passively before I put them on the charger. I have a couple of 120v CNC pendant 4 inch cooling fans wired up that I put battery in between. Depending on the size of the battery; I will leave it there for fifteen minutes to a half hour. After that; the battery is 'ice' cold and ready to be charged.
The Aluminum deck and the extra weight will mostly solve that but I have a bumpy lawn and it'll still bounce a little bit but definitely not as much as the previous Select Cuts. But the price difference is really insane
I just bought an Ego string trimmer and tried to register it as you said; however, they would not let me register it without giving them my credit card information. I have no intention of purchasing from them and they definitely do not need my credit card information. How can I register the product???
Use the website to register it, if not just call EGO they will help but be aware it's the weekend so the team might be light on the weekends 8553465656
From personal experience, the 2.5 ah battery is inadequate for the string trimmers. The 5.0 ah is what I would recommend but EGO , like most manufacturers just package a battery at the lower end. I run my ST1511T on low speed (never on high) and the area covered is not large yet I have to recharge in order to complete the area. We are diametrically opposed on this one.
I use a 2.5 amp battery with my strength trimmer all the time. I think it’s just a matter of how big your lawn is and how much work you have. The 2.5 amp power battery keeps the tool light and works well. We all have different size properties.
My z6 e-steer ztr mower came with four 12ah batteries. I purchased an end of season floor model discounted $2300. New and never used just a floor model display. Ego doesn’t want to honor the warranty due to the deep discount. A bit disappointing. Fortunately I got a 5 year store warranty for 5 years on tool and batteries for reasonable price
@ I registered it. I called them to confirm the 5 year battery warranty and they reviewed the receipt and emailed me that due to the large discount sold as an “as is floor model “ the warranty didn’t apply. The batteries are part of a kit and are not warrantied separate from a kit package even though you register mower, batteries and charger as separate items. I asked for an explanation and all they would offer was to contact them if a battery issue occurs and they would evaluate. Not exactly confidence inspiring. Fortunately Nebraska Furniture mart sells a separate 5 year warranty covering mower, batteries and charger including transport to a Sevices center and on site repair and troubleshooting
My ego leaf blower ocame with a 2.5 battery and you aresaying that its recommended that they use a 5. Why didntbthey package it with a 5 amp battery???
I know you recommend the slower changes for extended battery life span. Would you recommend just a regular slow charger, or would the 100w port on the 400w inverter be better? I was planning on getting the 400w inverter for emergency power, and was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone.
I just recommend using a slower charger if you have one normally when you buy an ego tool as a kit, you get a battery and a charger. What tool do you have and did you buy the kit that comes with the charger and the battery?
@@TechMadeEzy I have the mower from spring Black Friday that came with a 7.5 and a 5ah battery so I only have a fast charger right now and I sparingly use it. It sounds like a rocket is about to go off when I charge my batteries. I know it’s not good so I only charge them sparingly right now
i want to get the plain 'push' mower, but it comes with a 5.0ah batt., i want more run time, can i use a 7.5ah in that basic mower? i want to switch to all electric and commit to a particular brand for the battery eco-system. thank you to anyone for the advice. - thanks for the tips!
@@TechMadeEzy thanks for the reply, i ask because it looks like the batteries are 2 different sizes, if the mower came with a 5ah and the bigger ah batteries were physically bigger they wouldn't fit in the 5ah receptical. do all EGO batteries fit in all machines but with different power levels?
Great videos! And thanks for using both metric and ‘our’ version of the number break downs 😂 (as a side note, has any one every mentioned your voice sounds uncannily like Howard Stern? )
So I’m still wondering what happens if I run out of charge in my 10aH battery and put my 5aH battery into my lawn mower? Will it not be able to spin the blades as fast?
My rule is when it comes to power, electricity, especially batteries I’d rather not mess with anything but the original that I know has been tested and tested. I also don’t want to take a change and voice a warranty.
Ego batteries are like printer ink cartridges. It costs more to buy replacement batteries than new machines. Ego batteries by themselves are ridiculously overpriced.
My ego batteries started to not hold a good charge right after the warranty ran out, I’ve been milking them along for several years now but I really need to replace them , I’m thinking about just buying new tools cause like you said it’s cheaper to buy the tool with the battery , if I didn’t have so many if their tools already I would change brands , but I love the tools they have all served me well
I am missing from your information about devices balancing batteries on devices using multiple batteries. Since batteries age differently. If the snow blower will damage the weaker battery or not.
Hi, thanks do you know the good news is Ego makes many mowers. The aluminum deck is just another choice. The deck does add more weight, which will be a better cut depending on your lawn.
@@TechMadeEzyAh! Good point!! Was a particularly humid day and it had rained consecutively for three days so the grass was quite thick......was the first cut of the season and now that I think about it the whole fuel gauge ring was flashing red, instead of just the last bar so that would be an over heating fault, I think. Last time I cut my yard I BAGGED my clippings (instead of mulching) and they lasted longer and didn't give any faults.
I've never experienced any battery problems with my EGO select cut mower. But I agree with you about the batteries going 'dead'. THAT I HAVE experienced in my CSX5000 chainsaw. If I'm making full bar cuts; the saw will 'die' after a few cuts. The bars on the battery will be red. I then take that battery in the house and put it between my cooling fans for a good half hour. Then it will show 2 or 3 bars left.
Another thing that can affect lithium battery life, is letting them sit without use. Letting any lithium battery sit for long periods of time is not the best for it, but it is the worst if you let it sit at 90%-100% or 0%-10% If you're going to store a lithium battery for long periods of time, discharge some of the energy so it's sitting below 90% and is above 10%
I think you missed something in the battery maintenance section, which is that you never talk about what charge percentage you store your batteries at when not used for long periods of time. I have to believe that you intended to include this information because right after talking about battery maintenance you talked about how to get the battery percentage on the older batteries, but never go into why you would want to know the battery percentage. I personally store all my batteries at 2-3 bars (40%-60%) when not in use, I'm curious if you do something similar.
Yeah, I see people leaving batteries in their tools, tool videos with a bunch of batteries stored on a tool. I always unplug my battery on what ever tool I'm using. It's just common sense.
I wish I had not lost my receipts. Fortunately, EGO took pity on me and I got my 2400 snow blower repaired for free after 2 years. (I broke the transmission when I hit a hidden rock.) I use 7.5 and 10.0 ah with it, and don't notice much of a difference in run time or power. BTW, my new 670 leaf blower came with a 4ah battery, not a 5.0. .
When the battery turns red, stop. I killed a battery like this once. I was using it in the chainsaw on a difficult cut. The battery light turned red. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and kept cutting. Later I discovered that I had overheated and ruptured all of the cells in that battery. 😢
Your second tip says to rest the battery for a minimum 30 mins before using again or before you have to charge it. But the note from Steve Jacobs advised that the battery should be removed from the tool and placed on a charger right after use, and then once charging is complete, remove the battery. Your #2 Tip conflicts with Steve's recommendation. I also realized that you read the first part of his message and not the second part which is the opposite to what he said. strange that none of those commenting chose to point this out. So who should the readers believe: you or Steve. I patiently await. (BTW, I own the EGO ST1511T & 2.5 ah battery)
Let it cool down before charging and always take it off the charger. Steve does my social media but I’m the one that uses the tools Hope that clears things up
Surprising I have exact respect to all Makita batteries over these years !

Hi Ron thanks
550w and 700w
The 320w is a good choice for slow
I've been doing this with my batteries since day one. Still using my original 7.5ah dated 2017. Though it does not have full capacity anymore it still works.
I basically never use the fast charger
Another good tip: After finished using tool/batt and have rested it 30 min or more to cool, I will charge it back up to about 50%.
Love the backpack link! Definitely makes the tool lighter
@philologus6577 I understand but it's definitely easier on the back

Thanks.

Honestly, I don’t have any experience because my properties not large enough otherwise I would’ve picked one up for review

Thanks
Lol, welp, I was doing none of these except taking them in during the winter. I immediately went out into the garage and removed the batteries just sitting in the tools and on the chargers and found some proper storage for them when not in use. Thank you for all of the tips! I'm not sure if this is a good one to add, but I have bought two additional batteries from Facebook marketplace that were brand new and for about half the price. Buyer beware, of course, but they were excellent sellers.
Thanks Dustin

Thank you
Loved the video, thank you! That said, I'm surprised EGO doesn't offer a charger with a "capacity/load test" feature, that uses the same/similar LCD display from the EGO lawnmower(!?) That (imho) would be a super popular/hot seller for EGO!
I have a 2ah made in January of 2015. It's still working.
💪🏼
Thank you for your videos. Thank you for all the tips, such as allowing the battery to rest after charging and removing the battery from the tool or charger. I have purchased two EGO products. One is the new HT2601 Hedge Trimmer and the other is the LBPX8006-2 Backpack blower with two batteries and as you advised I purchased the kits that contained batteries and chargers. The blower is overkill at this time of the year, but will be needed in the autumn, so I will also get a smaller, hand held blower. ( Our California community is being forced into the conversion from gas powered tools to electric tools.)
Charging batteries is always challenging because there are so many opinions, and they cannot all be correct.
Hi thanks so much
I simply stop when the battery turns red that’s about 15% I believe. I always fully charge.
Just ordered an E-go string trimmer.....so excited! It is a kit, so it comes with a battery.
what did you get? I'm considering a trimmer myself.
Thanks--this was very timely. Would you recommend the Ego lawnmower?
Thanks do you have any yard tools now? Trimmer etc?
@@TechMadeEzy yes I have Makita tools.
I've heard it's best to only charge up to around 80 percent on batteries to prolong
their overall quality. Do you think that applies with these?
It's hard to impossible to know % with these batteries that's why I stop at Red.
I wish they would have a way to manually activate the batteries’ self-discharge function - I would prefer to bring them down to 40% for storage. I keep them fully charged during winter and when major storms are forecasted, but that leaves them self-discharge maybe once or twice a year.
Just bought a string trimmer and blower kit ... little discouraged that minimum blower recommendation is 5 Ahr and kit came with a 4 Ahr battery
That's commercial, this video is all residential.
Have 2 2.5s one old and one new. One 5ah new gauge and 3 7.5ah 2 new and one old. All are still working fine.

Nice video. Good information.

@@vaejoviscarolinanus has the aftermarket battery the same power?
I don't need my lawn looking like a putting green. One of the main features of my EGO mower is the crazy light weight! I'm sure the power of the model that comes with the 10ah battery is impressive; but I can cut the back yard with a generic 5ah battery; and the front with the 7.5ah.
I never used to like cutting the yard; now I look forward to it; and that's after three years of use!
I"m looking at a push mower also. I don't want the self propelled models.
@@TechMadeEzy Thank you!
Thank you
Great tips on maintaining battery life!
You can buy the mower with no battery and no charger and save hundreds on the tool.
When not in use in winter, do the batteries need to be fully charged?
Just make sure you go on the website and register your warranty and you will have a full warranty

Thanks bro
Good question I haven’t seen any maintenance advice in the manual.
Hi 👋🏼
Im assuming you have a zero turn mower?
Sorry to hear this bro, how old are the batteries?
I thought I read somewhere from Ego or heard somewhere that if you’re going to store your batteries through the winter and not use them for months at a time you should only charge them back up to about 50% and store them at that percentage I’d rather than all the way charged. Is this correct? If so, why did you not cover it in your video or did I just miss it?
I did a two part series. I’m not sure if you saw the second video, but I definitely covered it.

Higher is always fine that leads to more run time 👍🏼
Hi Al, I have had the batteries from 2014 with a total of 13 now and all work great.
Thanks Buster interesting idea thanks for sharing and watching buddy much appreciated

Very nice video, thanks for that. Do you consider the Nexus like a charger? I dedicate 2 10 amp batteries for that tool and leave it on the Nexus, the idea is to always have the max power of my batteries when I need it, especially when I lost power from the grid
Hi Charles thanks
Yes, I'd recommend taking them off please. Also grab the solar charger for the nexus, have you seen it?
I just recently made a purchase of a 2 pack of the 12 amp hours. The two 6 amp hours that came with my power washer are nice but the run time with them is simply lacking for such a power washer. Other than those, I only have 3 of the 2.5 amp hours that came with basic kits of other tools. Still though, the collection is sure to grow as I collect more ego stuff! I REALLY would like to get my hands on one of those Nexus generators next
You mentioned not to leave the batteries on the charger for storage. Can you leave them on the charger for storage as long as the charger is disconnected? Thanks.
No, if you saw the image I brought up from EGO even though the charger is disconnected there is still a connection and a small drain.
Thanks I have been leaving one on the charger unplugged so I’ll be sure to remove it.I also just purchased a new Ego lawnmower with the quick charger but I won’t use it as my primary charger as you recommended.
Thanks for your support Dave
Would it be advisable to just buy a single 12Ah batt to run a mower, blower, and string trimmer? Might as well just go with a single battery instead of spending more for multiple, yeah?
It can be Overkill and very heavy for certain tools
How long will a battery remain charged after taking it off a charger
My experience around 3 to 6 days after that you start losing a charge and then it’ll start going into self maintenance mode where it’ll actually drain the battery on its own.
Excellent video Al!!! A wealth of information. Thanks so much.

Thanks buddy
When my batteries are exhausted; I don't 'wait' for them to cool down passively before I put them on the charger.
I have a couple of 120v CNC pendant 4 inch cooling fans wired up that I put battery in between. Depending on the size of the battery; I will leave it there for fifteen minutes to a half hour. After that; the battery is 'ice' cold and ready to be charged.
@TechMadeEzy I hadn't considered the extra weight as being a feature. Now that you mention it; my self propelled select cut DOES bounce quite a bit.
The Aluminum deck and the extra weight will mostly solve that but I have a bumpy lawn and it'll still bounce a little bit but definitely not as much as the previous Select Cuts. But the price difference is really insane
Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for commenting,
I just bought an Ego string trimmer and tried to register it as you said; however, they would not let me register it without giving them my credit card information.
That’s a steal and I’m surprised ego wouldn’t. So you couldn’t just go on their website and register it ?
That really stinks. I’m glad you posted this. I guess we’re all gonna have to check before we buy something if we’re getting such a deep discount.
I like to charge all my batteries on my slowest charger, no matter what size. Don't know if it helps but I don't think it hurts longevity.
Definitely does
My ego leaf blower ocame with a 2.5 battery and you aresaying that its recommended that they use a 5. Why didntbthey package it with a 5 amp battery???
You must have gotten an older model , what model ?
@@TechMadeEzy mine also came with a 2.5 Amp battery
I know you recommend the slower changes for extended battery life span. Would you recommend just a regular slow charger, or would the 100w port on the 400w inverter be better?
I was planning on getting the 400w inverter for emergency power, and was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone.
I don’t know if it makes a difference but I’ve always tried to change my power tool batteries off of a DC charger if they offer one
I just recommend using a slower charger if you have one normally when you buy an ego tool as a kit, you get a battery and a charger. What tool do you have and did you buy the kit that comes with the charger and the battery?

I almost agree with the 'push mower' comment. My self-propelled mower is so light; that I hardly ever employ the self-propelled mechanism.
i want to get the plain 'push' mower, but it comes with a 5.0ah batt., i want more run time, can i use a 7.5ah in that basic mower? i want to switch to all electric and commit to a particular brand for the battery eco-system. thank you to anyone for the advice. - thanks for the tips!
Hey thanks
You can use all ego batteries even a 12ah battery 👍🏼
@@TechMadeEzy thanks for the reply, i ask because it looks like the batteries are 2 different sizes, if the mower came with a 5ah and the bigger ah batteries were physically bigger they wouldn't fit in the 5ah receptical. do all EGO batteries fit in all machines but with different power levels?
They are designed to fit in all EGO-tools the larger, the battery, the more runtime
@@TechMadeEzy 👍😃🥳thank you!
My pleasure
What should I do with an EGO battery that has died?
You would probably have to contact your county to find out where you can recycle it
Home Depot recycles batteries that size.
@mot1343 cool I didn’t know that. Best Buy seem to stop recycling I believe
Great information. Thanks.
Joseph thanks so much
Great videos! And thanks for using both metric and ‘our’ version of the number break downs 😂 (as a side note, has any one every mentioned your voice sounds uncannily like Howard Stern? )
😎
Did you buy aftermarket batteries to do just the same
I never buy aftermarket batteries
Another excellent video. Thanks for all the great information 👍
Thanks Paul
So I’m still wondering what happens if I run out of charge in my 10aH battery and put my 5aH battery into my lawn mower? Will it not be able to spin the blades as fast?
It will work but your run time will be cut in half.
@@TechMadeEzy Can you damage a 5amp Battery with a 10 amp charger.
just curious what people think about the " no name " batteries that are compatible with ego and much cheaper.
I wouldn’t touch them
@@TechMadeEzy can i ask why?
My rule is when it comes to power, electricity, especially batteries I’d rather not mess with anything but the original that I know has been tested and tested.
I also don’t want to take a change and voice a warranty.
@@TechMadeEzy makes sense, thank you
i'm new to ego products. lawn mower and weed eater, love em so far
👍🏼
Ego batteries are like printer ink cartridges. It costs more to buy replacement batteries than new machines. Ego batteries by themselves are ridiculously overpriced.
I totally agree. Love their equipment but the batteries cost way too much. When my set goes out I’m moving to ryobi
My ego batteries started to not hold a good charge right after the warranty ran out, I’ve been milking them along for several years now but I really need to replace them , I’m thinking about just buying new tools cause like you said it’s cheaper to buy the tool with the battery , if I didn’t have so many if their tools already I would change brands , but I love the tools they have all served me well
Not to mention the lack of service centers
They are repairable.
Yes. Kobalt is the same.
I am missing from your information about devices balancing batteries on devices using multiple batteries. Since batteries age differently. If the snow blower will damage the weaker battery or not.
Hi
I try to use my older batteries 1st. EGO doesn’t offer any information about balancing batteries.
Off topic; why the aluminum deck? I think the polycarbonate deck is plenty strong enough.
Hi, thanks do you know the good news is Ego makes many mowers. The aluminum deck is just another choice. The deck does add more weight, which will be a better cut depending on your lawn.
A couple of mine will go "dead" in my mower but when i put it on the charger theres a couple bars left
That sounds potentially like overheating
The only EGO tool I've got that overheats the battery is that CSX5000.
@@John-cj3vewas my push mower mulching pretty thick grass (first cut of the season)
Letting any lithium battery sit for long periods of time is not the best for it, but it is the worst if you let it sit at 90%-100% or 0%-10%
If you're going to store a lithium battery for long periods of time, discharge some of the energy so it's sitting below 90% and is above 10%
Very informative thank you
Thanks Anthony
Thank You!
I'm not being a smart aleck; but it seems like you've NEVER had one go bad yet. Have you? And if so; what size was it; and how was it employed?
Yeah, I see people leaving batteries in their tools, tool videos with a bunch of batteries stored on a tool. I always unplug my battery on what ever tool I'm using. It's just common sense.
So sorry to hear about Brooklyn 😢. RIP 🙏
Thank you so much after about a year we did finally get another puppy. Her name is Sunshine.
I just bought a 16 inch chainsaw with a 4 amp hour battery for 249 at ace hardware. just buy a second saw, same price crazy
That’s a good deal. The battery almost cost that much.
BTW, my new 670 leaf blower came with a 4ah battery, not a 5.0. .
You said do not charge after use, but the Ego advice says to charge after use ... You show us! Which is the truth?
When the battery turns red, stop. I killed a battery like this once. I was using it in the chainsaw on a difficult cut. The battery light turned red. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and kept cutting. Later I discovered that I had overheated and ruptured all of the cells in that battery. 😢
Ego would have still covered you under the 3 yr warranty I believe
@@TechMadeEzy thank you, but as a commercial user, my warranty terms are shorter. And had expired on this particular battery. 😅
True
How do you keep your mower and chainsaw SO CLEAN…..LOL ?! It looks brand new, never been used. I clean mine but it never looks new .
Steve does my social media but I’m the one that uses the tools
Hope that clears things up
