      Ensure that the Ceiling Hook
      can sustain more than 10 times the Ceiling Fan weight. Safety Wire must be fixed correctly to the Pipe?

    Katie did a great job. I admire both men and women who are willing to take tools in hand and make things happen. A ceiling fan is something any homeowner could save some money installing, so this video should be helpful for those trying some DIY.

    She’s a natural! I honestly think this will give some women the spark to try household things and not to be afraid of doing them! Great job Mrs Katie!

      The first step is working up the courage to try it. I think you're right, if other people see Katie do it, maybe they will give it a try too.

    As an Electrician takes me a minute to install half an hour to put it together. I hate ceiling fans lol. The biggest mistake people do when installing a fan they put it all together then try to mount it. Glad to see you put the blades and glass last .Did a great job guys

      Thanks! I'm impressed that it didn't take her THAT much longer than it takes a pro!
      Apparently most people don't read the instructions? Katie just went step by step and never considered building the whole thing then installing it.

    Nice video guys. One thing to remember though, if you are installing a fan in place of a standard lighting fixture, make sure to REPLACE the old junction box with a box that’s rated for the weight of the fan, and the supports needed that fit your project.

  • @mountainboy2346
    @mountainboy2346 5 років тому +3

    reference; green wires from the fan (and bracket ) go to the copper wire from outlet box. there might not be a copper wire coming from the ceiling so reference your owner's manual for that.
    black wires go together, one from the ceiling and one from the fan.
    Cap the blue wire (light) or connect it with the light wire coming from the fan if you have dual switches fro both light and fan.
    The neutral wire (white) go together. However the white wire would be tanned out by age, so don't confuse it with the ground wire if you have one.

    Nice work Katie! (I say as if we were longtime friends) I appreciate the fact that you let her take the project and run with it Mark, it's easy to be a little too eager when offering your expertise. Having just swapped out a light recently myself, an hour is a pretty respectable time! Great work!

      Gunflint Designs considering it usually takes me a minimum of a dozen takes to get my intro or outro, I think she did an awesome job!

    • @GunflintDesigns
      @GunflintDesigns  6 років тому +2

      Yea me too! I struggle with that every time! She did the intro twice, and you couldn't tell a difference, and she did the outdo 3 times, but that was just so I could get different angles. She nailed her part every time!

  • @vfreelon1702

    Good job one question I have is did you install a fan rated box or just use the one that was there. Most ppl make this mistake and then wonder why the fan ends up hanging by the wires.

    • @GunflintDesigns
      @GunflintDesigns  6 років тому

      I didn't put in a different box, but I made sure the box that's there was well fastened to the rafters.
      I weighed the new fan and the old light fixture that I removed and they were within half a pound of each other. I figure it that light fixture lasted there since the 70's, it was probably up to the task.

    What is the box in the ceiling mounted to?

    • @GunflintDesigns
      @GunflintDesigns  6 років тому +1

      It is screwed into the ceiling joist. There was a big ugly and heave light fixture there before so I double checked, but was sure it was secure enough to hold the weight.

    • @JonathanExcels
      @JonathanExcels 6 років тому +1

      Gunflint Designs that is a very important part omitted from the awesome video. Someone might think a box floating in the drywall or nailed to the side of a joist is enough. That box needs to be solidly attached to preferably two joists. I mount a 2x6 on the flat between two joists and then mount the box to that. It’s heavy and spins and wobbles and will work itself loose over time unless solidly supported. I am not an expert but all of the ones I have hung are still there. Congratulations to both of you.
