Im a 51 year old man; who had never installed a ceiling fan. My daughters ceiling fan was moving all over the place, and my sons was missing the light chain. Since this whole quarantine deal started I decided that it was time to learn since I didnt want to pay, much less let anybody in my house to do it. I watched other videos and none of them were as thorough and detailed as yours. At first I was hesitant to even try; cause I thought it was such a hard task. I got my courage up after watching your video. Since then I replaced my sons and daughters fans on back to back days with no problems, thanks to you. My wife came home from work and saw me replacing my daughters fan and asked when did you learn how to install a fan; and I told her; a little "mamacita" taught me. Thanks for the video! Stay blessed!
Omg 😳 You saved my life! Bought a ceiling fan to replacement an older model and waited 4 YEARS for my husband to switch it out. I’ve watched videos galore and NONE educate the way you do. Very smart cookie. TODAY I am going to switch it out because of your easy to follow instructions. You would be great for a drill tutorial.
Absolutely the best instructional video I've ever watched. Usually I end up chunking crap at the walls when trying to do repairs and things. I had your video on and never once had to look at the instructions! I look forward to tackling more projects with you.
Yes I was intimidated when I thought about installing myself.. You made me realize I CAN DO THIS! Great explanations! Thanks so much!!!!🌺💕I might have to re-watch while doing it. 😉
Oh my gosh ... update. I did it on Sunday and it took me 6 hours. I did not anticipate that. But I am working with only one eye. And I kept dropping my screws and I couldn't find them on the floor lol and I was very confused about all the different color wires( I had to remove a 45 year old fan) eventually I got it done.. thank the Lord!!! now it looks great and it works great! thanks for your video
@@lorilaw2604 I laid down a white sheet on the floor, just incase I dropped a screw. My husband put in my elecricity for a kiln. So I knew he would make sure I did not electricute myself.
Thank you for explaining everything with detail. I love knowing HOW it works and what the wires do rather than “just connect blue to red” “black to black” you actually helped me
Really well done, great explanations. Better than “professional” videos that are super general and basic. Why doesn’t this have more views??? This was so helpful for me!
"Professional" videos, such as those made my Home Depot/Lowes, were edited in such a way to make ceiling fan installation appear easy; those videos were intended more for marketing than step-by-step instructions. My theory is that the stores thought that more people (who may be unable/unwilling to pay an electrician to install the fan) would see those videos and think it is easy to install a ceiling fan. The likely reason why the narrators in many of those videos say to contact a licensed electrician if one feels uncomfortable is because the lawyers said to say that in order to reduce the likelihood of successful lawsuits. There are too many factors which dictate how complicated a ceiling fan installation is, such as where the fan is going (replace an old ceiling fan, replace a light fixture, put the fan in a room where no ceiling fixture previously existed), along with assembling the fan (every ceiling fan is built differently). Plus, if you have never installed a ceiling fan before, you may take longer than someone, say an electrician, who has installed many ceiling fans in his/her lifetime. The simplest installations are those when a basic ceiling fan is being replaced with another basic ceiling fan. Hunter, in order to market the Five Minute Fan, made a video which claims that the Five Minute Fan can be installed in five minutes. However, that video fails to consider the above mentioned factors, especially the installer's experience and where the fan is going to be installed; the video only shows mounting/wiring/assembling the fan. Again, videos made by home improvement stores and ceiling fan companies are made only for marketing purposes.
After a process of elimination, I was about to order and replace the capacitors in 2 fans until I watched your oh so easy video. I just decided to replace the old fans with new ones. So simple and a nice upgrade. They both stopped working just about the same time, just like an expired warranty. Thank you, sweetheart, you made my day and thanks to Amazon for the overnight delivery.
When we moved into our house last year, my dad did this for us because I thought there was no WAY we could handle it. I feel like I could totally do it now! Your explanations were thorough and clear, and the video was awesome. Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest as you finish the house.
Great video! You explained everything so well. You have given me the confidence to install my new fan. Please keep making DIY videos for all of us who are trying to take care of the homes we have been blessed with. THANK YOU!!!!
I enjoyed your video. Well explained. Just purchased the exact one for my hallway, can't wait to install it. Simple and straight to the point. I just hate it folks talk 10 mins into a 15 min video. Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A well done job and explanation in details. Much better than those that call themselves "professional installers". That always leave out questionable details or go to fast. Kudos to you!
You are a life saver! I went to install a new fan in my daughter's room and the old mounting was not like anything I had seen on other videos. It did, however look just like the one you replaced! I'm off to unscrew the bolts, that I originally thought "no way, that can't be right". Lol! Thanks for your help!
Great video! Camera work is also well done. Things are clear and easy to see. So many videos do not get close enough to see what is going on, and/or are so blurry as to be useless. Your explanations are clear and easy to follow. The "why" always makes things easier to understand, and you cover all points well wit solid explanations. I do have to admit that I started giggling when you said "Give it a good screwing." Again, thanks for a video that is really well done.
Thanks so much, James! We did a lot of takes to make sure it was as clear as possible, glad it paid off. And don't be fooled: every unintentional dirty joke in my vids is TOTALLY INTENTIONAL. ;)
thank you so much I was always intimidated by this procedure. and you been a female and so am I, now I feel confident that I can do this. thank you for sharing your video
I have watched a bunch of these -- yours is clearly the best overall ‼️ I would only add ... safety glasses as a safety thought. Thanks for the “complete” package especially the how including the why. Your smiling personality and tips etc. make this a reason to subscribe and look for more. Thank you very much.
I must say, after watching your video and reading your reviews, I must concur, I finally felt comfortable understanding my reinstall project, primarily the wiring, other videos left me feeling uncomfortable because they were not explicitly explained. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for showing us how to replace a ceiling fan!!! I can't thank you enough! I was able to do this by myself. P.S. I re-watched so many times, I bet half of the views are probably mine alone. Tfs!
My husband and I have put up ceiling fans together many times but I don't think either of us knew you could hang the motor like that so that it could be a one person job! I always wondered how anyone living alone got the job done. My husband's going to be out tomorrow, and I'm tempted to ninja install a ceiling fan in the spare bedroom before he comes back.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this replacement for ceiling fan. One part of the house wiring you mentioned was that white is common . White is neutral.
Well Done! I feel much more prepared to tackle this in the future. My daughter's ceiling fan is starting to do a slight rotation, and I would love to have one in my bedroom. Thank you for providing such a clear video, and showing us newbs how to go about it :)
girl i loved every piece of this video lol! you are the only one to make me feel secure enough to attempt this. I am terrified of electricity but i got that volt pen and imma go give it go THANK YOU!!
GIRL!!😀 you made it so easy makes me wanna go change my ugly fans. Actually I tried and unable to put them back together.lol.. like you said, those wires are very intimidating and that's me!! Am gonna watch this again and try to do my fans.thank you
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation on how to do this. It's tedious AF lol. Nonetheless, your way of explaining and why etc helped so much! I highly recommend this video to anyone! Now I'm ready to tackle my son's room also. Thanks again 👍
In spite of the beginning which looks like a red flag :) this is super informative and better than any previous videos I watched. I was able to change out my screen porch ceiling fan with no problem. Thanks for the instruction!
Many thanks for the helpful instruction! Today I replaced an old ceiling fan/light with confidence from this video; it was a bit different compared to your fan (extender pole with ball joint and "U" mounting bracket) but the same concepts were easily applied. The manufacturer's instructions were pretty much useless.
Thanks for the video. I needed to replace a ceiling fan after redecorating. My setup was the same as the one in your video so this video was perfect for me. I was able to get it done.
Great video, thank you very much for making it. Really helped a lot trying to get to bolts to tighten fan that had come loose. I had the same model fan. Thanks.
Thanks for this Jenn! I recently had to take down one of ours to see why the electrical box was protruding from the ceiling and the installation process was very similar. Couldn't fix the box though- it seems to be mounted in the attic with no discernable way to change it from below. (The good news was, I couldn't get it out of the ceiling so it's definitely not going to fall on us in our sleep!) If you were at all inclined to show us what yours looks like from above, I'd be interested!
UR SO COOL ....I LOVE ALL THE LIL TIPS !I VIEWED ABOUT 5 OTHER VIDEOS WHERE MEN SHARING THERE EXPERTISE /EXPERIENCE , (THANKS GUYS) BUT YOUR VIDEO WAS RIGHT ON POINT. A WOMENS VIEW AND KEY POINTS ! THANKS
Your video on changing a ceiling fan is by far the best I've seen. I like how you explained the different colors of wires and their purpose. Also when you mention the hook to hold the motor! I never knew that. I do have a question about the ceiling bracket that holds up the weight of the fan. Is that screwed into a joyce or stud of some kind? I realize you made this video a couple of years ago but I would greatly appreciate if you could answer this question. Keep up the good work. 💪
Hi there! I'm so glad this has been helpful! Re: the fan's ceiling bracket, yet, it *should* be securely attached to a stud in the ceiling, or to a bar connected to two studs on either side. We have found one or two fans over the years that were not secured - which is both terrifying and dangerous, ha - but that's quite rare. You'll know as soon as you take the old fan down: if the bracket is wobbly, something's wrong.
Thank you so much! I’m tempted to replace the ceiling fan in my living room. I’m in an older house (built 1947) so I’m a little scared of what I’ll find once the fan is completely uninstalled

You go girl!!!! You hooked it up and now I’m ready to hang my ceiling fans. My husband wants to hire an electrician, boy bye!
