From the way I see it, If two discs work but one fails to play, they haven't updated the decryption key database to decrypt the data from the disc. When you launch a Blu-Ray, the blue screen indicates it is attempting to decrypt the content required to get to the initial disc loading screen using the database of the console. After it is done, It will pass control over to the pre-loader on the disc which will then prepare the console for playback with that specific disc. The issue is that If the software hasn't been updated to add support for the latest decryption keys, discs will fail to start due to being unable to unlock the content. Best case? Wait for a dash patch and it should be okay. Also, check for any updates to the Blu-Ray app itself. Hope this helps.
Also, If you have your console set to play discs automatically, Inserting the disc and waiting for it to load the Blu-Ray app has helped for some people.

You could have a problem called region locking, say if you bought your Xbox in the US but bought the disk from the UK, there could be a chance that it won't play on a US player.
You get what you pay for with the Xbox s. They also cut corners with sound. You can't get lossless Dolby true HD and DTS-hd on Xbox one S. Only basic lossy 5.1 Dolby and dts surround sound. Huge deal breaker for anyone who has a surround system. I returned my S and bought the Samsung 4k bluray player. They drop the price as well and it's been a night and day experience.
what did they announce? dts hd and dolby hd has been out for a long time on regular blu ray and the xbox one never supported it. I find it hard to believe they are going to support it now almost 4 years after the xbox one release
UPDATE: Since this article first appeared, Microsoft has confirmed that the bitstream audio firmware update will appear early in 2017, and that DTS-X will be supported as well as Dolby Atmos.
I also have this glitch on the previous version of the Xbox one, and I also have the stuttering problem where the screen glitches out when you play the movie.
I know this is an older video, but i am still having 4K bluray issues with the Xbox One X. Sound randomly goes out of sync. If i pause>rewind>play it temporarily fixes it. But i end up doing that every 1 to 10 minutes during a movie, and it straight pisses me off. I have a Dolby Atmos sound system, and haven't encountered any other issues with it. Frustrating.
MICHAEL DAVIS you may have to go to your receiver setting and make sure the lip sync is on auto. If that doesn’t work you may have to manually sync them. I must say I have experienced that before with my one S but not since I had the one X. Another thing could be your internet speed. A lot of blu ray still pull content off the internet as they are playing surprisingly I found out. And it’s from Netflix you may just have to refresh the app

I had the same issue i fixed the problem by going into settings and going to blu Ray and clear the Corrupted data inside Persistent Storage. After you do that wait 1 min. Then put the disc in that wouldn’t play it will play. The persistent data gets errors and make the disc reader act up on certain formats the disc is in. Your welcome

killerbill1001 there's forums for it. Other movies from Universal aren't playing as well. Maybe it's not the disc/console but universal may have anitpiracy encoding the console may struggle to work around.

I actually did return mine because for example the Batman and Superman it kept freezing and then have an audio delay. games also had problems in the 4K settings like almost if you were trying to run a game on PC that doesn't have Hardware strong enough to run it and it was choppy. the game issue only was in the 4K settings.

Each time they do this, all players (both software and hardware) need updates. I remember having to buy a new Blu-Ray player 6 years ago when the Star Wars boxset came out on Blu-ray, an update never appeared for my older player. The bonus of course was the discs loaded the menus a lot faster too. The issue remains though. Consumers expect a standard to be just that. A standard. Its time manufacturers of discs understood this simple premise.
The third movie you played didn't say HDR on the front of the case. Therefore It's not an Xbox One S issue. It's your issue of not paying attention. Try turning the HDR off; on either your Xbox One S or your tv. Then you'll be able to watch the third movie you purchased.
SPINKS ALOT yeah I had that same issue until, I changed my HDMI cord to 2.0 be sure to recheck your settings. Rerun the test and make sure all of your checks are green. If you look at my Xbox one S unboxing I talk about that issue.

I know, I don't have the answer. I just purchased The new Huntsman, new Independence Day and the new X Men. Independence Day and X Men played flawlessly. Huntsman did not, I was so looking forward to this movie in 4K HDR on my new 65 IN. LG OLED.. Mine did just like BodyBySteve's. It Would start to load then stop and go to a black screen. Thanks to Best Buy for taking it back.
It's actually not the unit most of the time but the studios still working out the problems with a new format. I have an Oppo UBD 203 and it gives me the same problem with Batman vs Superman film. It's new technology and it will take time to perfect it by all studios and the respective hardware manufacturers.
This is legit. I have three 4K movies I bought with mine. Two play but stutter all throughout and one won't play at all. Took first unit back to Best Buy and swapped it out for another and it does it too. Infuriating!!!
You know why it doesn't work. Cuz that probably whoever made that disc probably put a anti copy thing on it and it's really meant to go in a Blu-ray player like not an Xbox . I don't think it is the Xbox One S, it is the coding from Universal's discs while attempting to read an updated content from the internet. If you are direct connected to your router or modem, try disconnecting from the internet. If you are connected wirelessly, try disabling your wifi, and then try the movie. Warcraft, another universal movie, did this to me on my samsung 4k player, as well as my One S. I had no problems after disabling the players from the internet. Painful solution, but the movie plays...
I bought, Warcraft, Batman vs Superman, Tarzan and the huntsman. everything except Batman vs superman played although they all played and have different times the screen blacks out for a second or video studders for a second or 2 then it's fine again for a while. after going in to the bd player and clearing the cache out Batman vs Superman has now worked also. hopefully this helps others.

John Swaebe nope. I purchased Lucy 4K and still no fix. From what I read it's the manufacturing of the discs, since they were the first titles from Universal I believe something went wrong, someone didn't get the memo. Also what I read on Xbox treads that its not just the Xbox, the Samsung player has some issues with the discs too. People contacted Universal and they sent them a replacement and that copy seemed to worked fine. I just emailed them will keep posted, but if you just want a 4K player and don't care about the gaming get the Samsung 4K player it's going to be 200 on Black Friday at Beat Buy or the Philips one is at 180 right now
I bought Oblivion at Best Buy and I watched the whole movie with no problems. I do not own any other Universal 4k movie so cannot comment on whether this is a problem with other 4k movies.
Mine does not like to play after pausing or stopping...even have a no signal screen. Have to restart every time and eject for random movies to play. Not using 4k.
whats really sad is , if you put a standard bluray player and compare it to xboxoneS , you will see that the standard bluray shows better.. well at least mine does.. there is a big difference in pictire quality and it doesn't favor xboxoneS.. so mad cuz thats half the reason why i bought mine and this 4k movie today.. it really isnt a dedicated 4k system..
I have the same issue, I own more 4K UHD blurays and only "The Huntsman" it's the only title from all the UHD blurays that I have like BvS, Sicario, The martian, ETC...that actually freeze and don't play. I got it to play 1 time only and it actually freeze watching the movie. I think that movie have a codec that it's not being implemented on the app for the Xbox. So yeah, im pissed because i actually pay like you 30 bucks for that shit
I know why you're having this issue. There are two types of HDR technology out there: HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The reason why the Huntsman 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray Disc doesn't work in the Xbox One S is because the HDR code on the disc is Dolby Vision, a decision that was made by Universal Studios. Xbox One S only supports HDR10 coding, which is more open-ended and doesn't have any licensing stipulations and fees like Dolby Vision does. Marcus Johnson no I'm sorry to say your wrong I actually work in the industry yes their are two types dolby vision and hdr 10 if your source does not support dolby vision for example it will not activate hdr, or it will use the hdr 10. almost every movie is filmed with hdr it is not a new technology in cinema it is just we finally have the tech in our homes to allow us to view it. For example deadpool which is encoded to use dolby vision still works in the xbox one s.

Hi im in the UK and bought my first 4k hdr film which is "Lucy" it started up fine and played well until about an hour in where it had a slight stuter for a couple of seconds and then continued fine. I went back to the spot where it stuttered and it didnt do it again so not sure what was going on.

Xbox one uses upscaling, its not true 4k like the Samsung 4k BD player... not a huuuuge difference, but u can tell a little difference... True 4k, like true anything instead of "as close as you can get without buying the real thing" will always be a step up
True 4k looks better than upscaling, period and Xbox knows true 4k looks better than an upscaled picture tho thats why theyre making the scorpio, they straight up tell u in their newer videos. Anyway im talking about movies. A 4k blue ray played on a true 4k player, not an upscaled intermediate, looks better than anything that upscales. I don't know how games work I'm sure the HDR makes a big improvement in the quality of the picture just like it does movies. But ya I did a side by side comparison and my Samsung 4k blu ray looked much better than the Xbox one, and again Xbox knows this that's why they will have the Scorpio out around Oct next, true 4k looks better than upscaling.
You dont have to take my word for it lol look up project Scorpio. Some of the Xbox web sites explain the difference in upscaling and true 4k, and why upscaling isn't really cutting it.
Maybe this might help. I was just having the same issue and I decided to go into my LG picture setting and saw that the aspect ratio might be the problem and the xbox wasn't happy about that. So I switched to the filmmaker mode than my movie played just fine. Maybe this can help.

John Swaebe sorry unfortunately they haven't it's strange the huntsman works when it wants to. I took it over two other friends house to see if it was my system and nope it did the same thing. But other than that all other movies work just fine and some times you will notice a slight lag but it's not that bad, I hope this helped

Hey man, this is a know issue with multiple titles. The issue is that the Huntsman was made earlier in 2016 before the standard was set, Xbox One S is made to a higher standard. Contact the movie studio and get another disc. Then it'll work. forums.xbox.com/en-US/thread/3383CDC1-2D23-4C3D-944E-829B7A54C9AC Basically it's a batch of discs that were already shipped that was the issue. Returning it to the store might work, but odds are you'll get a disc from the same batch.
At least your movies actually play in 4k. I've tried the sony and samsung 4k players, but i'm only getting a 1080p picture. All the settings are set for 4k, I have good hdmi cables and still 1080p. I took my tv back to best buy so their home theater guys can test it. They put one of their demo discs in the player and it actually played in 4k, but if I put in a 4k movie it plays in 1080p...so, i'm even more pissed off than you are at this point.
Michael Payne they didn't take mines back so I just used the digital 4K UHD version and left it alone. I even reached out to universal, but they never responded!

BodyBySteve's Tech Bro that's true, but you can redeem codes for 4K and can only play them in certain devices. For me and my setup I can only redeem HDX titles on Vudu (i.e. Sausage Party I own Vudu 4K but it will only stream the 4K on Sony 4K TVs, not my Samsung KS8000). The market is so fractured now it's HDDVD vs BluRay all over again but this time it's digital.
Forgot to mention some studios force you to redeem the 4K version with different apps forcing more fragmentation (like Flixster vs Vudu) and I can't necessarily tie those apps together all the time. Plus, Vudu 4K doesn't support HDR1000 (version on my setup), just Dolby Vision HDR like on the LG TVs and others.
I think it's funny how he says the Xbox one S is shit. Any intelligent person would know if it plays the first couple 4K Blu-ray just fine but didn't play the last one obviously it's a issue with the last 4K disc not the system. Did you ever get around to fixing it? There's a video on youtube that might help solve the problem. Its nothing more than a trick honestly but it works for a lot of people. Try Putting the disc in halfway until your xbox makes a loud spinning noise and let it go. It sounds like i'm trolling and trying to scratch your disc or something but it really does work and theres a video on it. If you wanna see for yourself look up "How to Fix Xbox One Blu Ray error 0x80820002" the guy's channel name is Deltaleader36. Just finished watching this Video I had to double check my 4k movies before I responded, but I have the secret life of pets, which is a universal title and I've played it in the Xbox without issues.. I wonder if it's the same issue like HD blu-ray had when it was new where discs worked and didn't work with certain combinations of hardware, or since this is an older video if an update has been applied on my system i wasn't aware of that fixed the issue. Either way, I can work on uploading a video of this title starting if you would like reference..
Tony Velez 4K is not about resolution as how the transition from standard to HD was, is not gonna take your breath away. Yea there might be some scenes where you can see a difference but honestly regular blu ray is already good enough. I purchased Lucy 4K and unfortunately it didn't play on the One S so I ended up playing the regular blu ray and it was sharp! But again going back to the 4K. It is not just about resolution, this time is about a wider range of colors, that's where the HDR come into place and makes the difference. You should wait and save for an hdr tv. Black Friday is coming and I believe Target has a 55 lg HDR tv for like 500 and Best Buy had the Samsung 4K UHD HDR player for 200...sorry for the long response :P

yes you need a 4K TV I have a 4K TV I got an Xbox one S and it plays everything 4 K Blu ray
24th of November I have no issue playing 4K HDR disc on my Xbox One S. Watched Deadpool, Star Trek Beyond, Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice.

another problem I have is when I'm on the main menu my TV shows that is displaying 2160p but soon as I put a 4k blue ray in it downgrades to 1080p

I know, I don't have the answer. I just purchased The new Huntsman, new Independence Day and the new X Men. Independence Day and X Men played flawlessly. Huntsman did not, I was so looking forward to this movie in 4K HDR on my new 65 IN. LG OLED.. Mine did just like BodyBySteve's. It Would start to load then stop and go to a black screen. Thanks to Best Buy for taking it back.

It was a update issue. Half my 4k movies didn't work. 3 months later all 4k movies worked
It's actually not the unit most of the time but the studios still working out the problems with a new format. I have an Oppo UBD 203 and it gives me the same problem with Batman vs Superman film. It's new technology and it will take time to perfect it by all studios and the respective hardware manufacturers.
This is legit. I have three 4K movies I bought with mine. Two play but stutter all throughout and one won't play at all. Took first unit back to Best Buy and swapped it out for another and it does it too. Infuriating!!!
You know why it doesn't work. Cuz that probably whoever made that disc probably put a anti copy thing on it and it's really meant to go in a Blu-ray player like not an Xbox . Like an ultra Blu-ray player that's 200 buy its self . And it probably talk to the player in a different way than it does the Xbox
I don't think it is the Xbox One S, it is the coding from Universal's discs while attempting to read an updated content from the internet. If you are direct connected to your router or modem, try disconnecting from the internet. If you are connected wirelessly, try disabling your wifi, and then try the movie. Warcraft, another universal movie, did this to me on my samsung 4k player, as well as my One S. I had no problems after disabling the players from the internet. Painful solution, but the movie plays...

I bought, Warcraft, Batman vs Superman, Tarzan and the huntsman. everything except Batman vs superman played although they all played and have different times the screen blacks out for a second or video studders for a second or 2 then it's fine again for a while. after going in to the bd player and clearing the cache out Batman vs Superman has now worked also. hopefully this helps others.

John Swaebe nope. I purchased Lucy 4K and still no fix. From what I read it's the manufacturing of the discs, since they were the first titles from Universal I believe something went wrong, someone didn't get the memo. Also what I read on Xbox treads that its not just the Xbox, the Samsung player has some issues with the discs too. People contacted Universal and they sent them a replacement and that copy seemed to worked fine. I just emailed them will keep posted, but if you just want a 4K player and don't care about the gaming get the Samsung 4K player it's going to be 200 on Black Friday at Beat Buy or the Philips one is at 180 right now
I bought Oblivion at Best Buy and I watched the whole movie with no problems. I do not own any other Universal 4k movie so cannot comment on whether this is a problem with other 4k movies.

have you try to change the movie for another same title , maybe isn't the Xbox but the movie.
whats really sad is , if you put a standard bluray player and compare it to xboxoneS , you will see that the standard bluray shows better.. well at least mine does.. there is a big difference in pictire quality and it doesn't favor xboxoneS.. so mad cuz thats half the reason why i bought mine and this 4k movie today.. it really isnt a dedicated 4k system..

I have the same issue, I own more 4K UHD blurays and only "The Huntsman" it's the only title from all the UHD blurays that I have like BvS, Sicario, The martian, ETC...that actually freeze and don't play. I got it to play 1 time only and it actually freeze watching the movie. I think that movie have a codec that it's not being implemented on the app for the Xbox. So yeah, im pissed because i actually pay like you 30 bucks for that shit
I know why you're having this issue. There are two types of HDR technology out there: HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The reason why the Huntsman 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray Disc doesn't work in the Xbox One S is because the HDR code on the disc is Dolby Vision, a decision that was made by Universal Studios. Xbox One S only supports HDR10 coding, which is more open-ended and doesn't have any licensing stipulations and fees like Dolby Vision does. Marcus Johnson no I'm sorry to say your wrong I actually work in the industry yes their are two types dolby vision and hdr 10 if your source does not support dolby vision for example it will not activate hdr, or it will use the hdr 10. almost every movie is filmed with hdr it is not a new technology in cinema it is just we finally have the tech in our homes to allow us to view it. For example deadpool which is encoded to use dolby vision still works in the xbox one s.

Hi im in the UK and bought my first 4k hdr film which is "Lucy" it started up fine and played well until about an hour in where it had a slight stuter for a couple of seconds and then continued fine. I went back to the spot where it stuttered and it didnt do it again so not sure what was going on.

Xbox one uses upscaling, its not true 4k like the Samsung 4k BD player... not a huuuuge difference, but u can tell a little difference... True 4k, like true anything instead of "as close as you can get without buying the real thing" will always be a step up
True 4k looks better than upscaling, period and Xbox knows true 4k looks better than an upscaled picture tho thats why theyre making the scorpio, they straight up tell u in their newer videos. Anyway im talking about movies. A 4k blue ray played on a true 4k player, not an upscaled intermediate, looks better than anything that upscales. I don't know how games work I'm sure the HDR makes a big improvement in the quality of the picture just like it does movies. But ya I did a side by side comparison and my Samsung 4k blu ray looked much better than the Xbox one, and again Xbox knows this that's why they will have the Scorpio out around Oct next, true 4k looks better than upscaling.
You dont have to take my word for it lol look up project Scorpio. Some of the Xbox web sites explain the difference in upscaling and true 4k, and why upscaling isn't really cutting it.
Incorrect. The Xbox One S plays 4K BDs in native 4K. It's the games that are up-scaled, not 4K movies.

Maybe this might help. I was just having the same issue and I decided to go into my LG picture setting and saw that the aspect ratio might be the problem and the xbox wasn't happy about that. So I switched to the filmmaker mode than my movie played just fine. Maybe this can help.
my is working , you got some small factory error on your disk...you need to replace your disk with new one in the movie store!

John Swaebe sorry unfortunately they haven't it's strange the huntsman works when it wants to. I took it over two other friends house to see if it was my system and nope it did the same thing. But other than that all other movies work just fine and some times you will notice a slight lag but it's not that bad, I hope this helped

Hey man, this is a know issue with multiple titles. The issue is that the Huntsman was made earlier in 2016 before the standard was set, Xbox One S is made to a higher standard. Contact the movie studio and get another disc. Then it'll work. forums.xbox.com/en-US/thread/3383CDC1-2D23-4C3D-944E-829B7A54C9AC Basically it's a batch of discs that were already shipped that was the issue. Returning it to the store might work, but odds are you'll get a disc from the same batch.
At least your movies actually play in 4k. I've tried the sony and samsung 4k players, but i'm only getting a 1080p picture. All the settings are set for 4k, I have good hdmi cables and still 1080p. I took my tv back to best buy so their home theater guys can test it. They put one of their demo discs in the player and it actually played in 4k, but if I put in a 4k movie it plays in 1080p...so, i'm even more pissed off than you are at this point.

Michael Payne they didn't take mines back so I just used the digital 4K UHD version and left it alone. I even reached out to universal, but they never responded!

BodyBySteve's Tech Bro that's true, but you can redeem codes for 4K and can only play them in certain devices. For me and my setup I can only redeem HDX titles on Vudu (i.e. Sausage Party I own Vudu 4K but it will only stream the 4K on Sony 4K TVs, not my Samsung KS8000). The market is so fractured now it's HDDVD vs BluRay all over again but this time it's digital.
Forgot to mention some studios force you to redeem the 4K version with different apps forcing more fragmentation (like Flixster vs Vudu) and I can't necessarily tie those apps together all the time. Plus, Vudu 4K doesn't support HDR1000 (version on my setup), just Dolby Vision HDR like on the LG TVs and others.

I had no issues with the Huntsman, but did have issues with BvsS. It wouldn't play at all for like a week and then it suddenly decided to work. Smdh
Did you ever get around to fixing it? There's a video on youtube that might help solve the problem. Its nothing more than a trick honestly but it works for a lot of people. Try Putting the disc in halfway until your xbox makes a loud spinning noise and let it go. It sounds like i'm trolling and trying to scratch your disc or something but it really does work and theres a video on it. Just finished watching this Video I had to double check my 4k movies before I responded, but I have the secret life of pets, which is a universal title and I've played it in the Xbox without issues.. I wonder if it's the same issue like HD blu-ray had when it was new where discs worked and didn't work with certain combinations of hardware, or since this is an older video if an update has been applied on my system i wasn't aware of that fixed the issue. Either way, I can work on uploading a video of this title starting if you would like reference..

Tony Velez 4K is not about resolution as how the transition from standard to HD was, is not gonna take your breath away. Yea there might be some scenes where you can see a difference but honestly regular blu ray is already good enough. I purchased Lucy 4K and unfortunately it didn't play on the One S so I ended up playing the regular blu ray and it was sharp! But again going back to the 4K. It is not just about resolution, this time is about a wider range of colors, that's where the HDR come into place and makes the difference. You should wait and save for an hdr tv. Black Friday is coming and I believe Target has a 55 lg HDR tv for like 500 and Best Buy had the Samsung 4K UHD HDR player for 200...sorry for the long response :P
