When Ms. Romanovska moved to San Francisco, she decided that she wanted to start a boutique family law firm so that she would have the time to really connect with her clients and make a difference in each matter. Ms. Romanovska also has a personal understanding of what it is like to go through a divorce, having been through one herself. This personal experience allows her to empathize with her clients and understand what is important to them.
Ms. Romanovska is regarded as one of the best divorce attorneys in San Francisco. Her breadth of experience in California divorce law includes the areas of child custody and visitation rights; child, spousal and domestic partner support; domestic violence restraining orders; and asset and property division. Beyond Ms. Romanovksa’s expertise as a divorce lawyer, she also specializes in other family law matters including prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, as well as the enforcement of premarital and post-marital agreements.

Thank you this makes me feel better about the job my lawyer is doing for me. She is certainly on top of my case but I struggle with the fact that she wishes to communicate almost exclusively through email. Email becomes an automatic record of everything as opposed to face-to-face meetings or phone calls from which notes would have to be transcribed which, as my lawyer points out, would rack up more cost. I'm 57 and just miss a world where communication was conversations. E-mail is cold.

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling more confident in your lawyer's abilities after watching my video. It's understandable that the shift to predominantly email-based communication might feel impersonal, especially when you value direct conversations. Adapting to the digital age, especially in legal matters, can be a challenge. However, the efficiency and record-keeping benefits of email are undeniable. Perhaps you could discuss with your lawyer about having occasional phone or face-to-face check-ins, just to maintain that personal touch while still benefiting from the cost-effectiveness of email. Your comfort is essential, and a balance might be found that suits both your needs.

I was in just the opposite position: My attorney was turning what could have been 5min. calls into hour-long calls as she talked about herself, her past clients, stopped to answer the door, make tea, etc. On top of that, she would constantly talk over me, even when I'd say, "please, let me finish." I ended up requesting that all comm. be done over email so that she had to be accountable for her time and her mistakes. Many lawyers are using speech-to-text anyway, so the difference in time/cost is negligible.
I ended up firing my attorney for poor communication, and having a dated paper trail of our exact comm. history helped me avoid her final bill (it was waived). If you prefer face-to-face meetings, ask for recorded Zoom/video calls and request copies of/access to every session so you have a record of time spent and any potential mistakes made.

Very helpful and excellent point about emotional empathy. No your lawyer cannot be an emotional support as a friend can, that wouldn't be a fair expectation; at the same time "let's continue to let this case run into the ditch and if it upsets you, maybe a therapist can help" is a flawed approach. If the case can go even a little better, that might eliminate the need for therapy in the first place.

This was the most accurate description of what my lawyer has done that i have found in my research on having a lawyer's bill assessed for the reasons listed here - non-responsive, misalignment, late billing, fudged dates, double docketing, retro billing for first consult, lead up to start date (a month before), no empathy, under deliver - he didn't do the work he claims to - makes me suicidal because mine is an estate matter not divorce or family law, although it is family and their allies who defrauded, abused my parents. If the predator lawyers would stay away from me maybe I'd get some justice. My mother deserves better. So do I.

my lawyer was straight forward. he told for my case it will cost me a set amount and sent me a breakdown .. i paid and i never heard from him until the case was over with no extra cost added except a great handshake when the case was dismissed

Not sure what to say since I don’t know if you wanted your case dismissed or wanted to be divorced

What if the client has a a bad Medical I don't even know how to say this a bad medical like a multiple sclerosis to where he can't think what do you do then

I’m not sure what to say as medical condition is confidential unless the other side opened the door to this issue by bringing it up in a spousal support case or custody issues.

You can contact the local state bar and find out if the lawyer is unethical or passed away or sick.

Lol my lawyer was supposed to file civil charges months ago, talked to the law firm and found out they’ve stopped working on my case a loooong time ago. I ended up needing to gather my documents and evidence and filing my case myself. They basically took my retainer, ate through it and abandoned the case once that was consumed.
I also found out that one of the defendants in the case may have been killed by other defendants so I couldn’t wait on my case anymore

If you never received an invoice, you should ask for it and your file.

What do you do with the client with whom EVERYTHING is an emergency?

If they need after hours, then double rate. If urgent, then 1.5 of my rate. Urgency has a price

This lawyer my bf has makes me so frustrated than usual. He’s not putting any motions. Not putting in the right nail. He never answers my calls. Communication sucks. Never explains next steps. I don’t know wat to do. As far as saying anything to him afraid he may mess this case up. I’m not happy with him n he’s probono so he don’t get paid from us. He has no communication with his client. Need another probono lawyer. Afraid also they all know one another.

My dad got a bill from his lawyer after I emailed his lawyer to find out we needed to make some changes to his will. The lawyer emailed me back and said he couldn’t answer me without my dad consent. Then sent my dad a bill two months later for his response to me. Seems kinda shady
