i was looking for video like this. simple and clear!
dev dev Thank you!
I first started watching these videos to help culture food; yet I feel like actually taking care of these and the others than to use them as food.
_Paws_ I know exactly what you mean! 🤣
awesome vid
trying to culture the sp. of bean beetles that live in Mesquite beans because they are ubundant in my area in the summer right now I have some of the beans with larva in them and a few have already come out as adults :)
+prehistproductions I would be interested to hear how it works, and which species you successfully feed them to.
Great vid
Crazy fish Thanks, I appreciate it!
I love the bean Beatles for my poison dart frogs. One thing I will say that I don't like about bean Beatles is they seem to get out of the vivarium quicker than fruit flies.
+The Fish Tank Guy 9057 Yes, I agree. Fruit flies will hang around a feeding station, bean beetles seem to like to go straight up.
How do the larvae get water?
They are efficient at reclaiming metabolic water (water produced as a byproduct of metabolism) many beetles, in , can do that.
Question to you or anyone- how do you prevent bean beetles from escaping on the sides towards the tops of the lids? Is there a substance or material that could work, as how Vaseline keeps roach colonies from eacaping?
I just used the tapping method…I wonder if Roach No-crossing or a similar substance would work? I no longer work with these beetles, so I can’t experiment
@Aquarimax Pets Fair enough. And thanks for the response! I'm now working on breeding Electric Blues, and my female is gravid. Looking for affordable, cost-effective alternatives to raise the tiny hatchlings individually as to sex them out in the months to come. In any case, keep up the great work!
@@torIIgo I do love me some Lygodactylus williamsi! I wish you the best of luck with your breeding project. Which other feeder insects are you working with?
@Aquarimax Pets Fruit flies, as I have a pair of tiny Cameroon dwarf geckos that I am attempting to breed. I may have to upgrade them into a slight larger enclosure, and perhaps add an extra female just in case, in the near future. But I also have my own dubia colony for my cuban false chameleons, leopard and amel african fat tails and box turtles, as well as kickstarting my small mealworm farm.
Can you use cloth or anything else for the lid breathable product?
Kenneth Young you could cut a hole in the lid and use aluminum window screen to cover the hole.
Can you use these for dart frogs? Thanks
Yes, they are a good food item for dart frogs. 👍🏽
What's in a black eyed pea culture? Is it the same as for a fruit fly?
Even easier...the only medium needed for these beetles is dry black-eyed peas.
mesquite beans can be used to for some sp.
+prehistproductions I have heard of species like that... sounds like it has potential n the hobby!
Do the Adzuki and mung beans need to be dry or are soaked okay
They need to be dry. : )
Thank you loved the video
+Dave Dowson Glad to hear it!
can you feed these to mourning geckos?
Samantha Smith Yes you can...although I recommend that the mourning geckos be at least a few months old before offering them, as they are larger and crunchier than fruit flies. 👍
@@Aquarimax thanks good info to know
I went from a few to about 20+ mesquite bean beetles and I see tons of eggs on the mesquite beans 😀
+prehistproductions Great to hear! Which species have you fed the mesquite beetles to?
I am trying it out with a praying mantis then I will try a fish I think there safe for any animal to eat but I will be testing it out a bit
+prehistproductions Looking forward to hearing how they work for various species...
lol do not let them escape.
Tae Kim Especially not if you store certain types of beans in the house...😃😆
Important question, do they fly?
Technically they are capable of flight, but it is not particularly common
Are these good for tarantulas?
jayson cruz I haven’t tried...although my Phidippus audax have eaten them...
jayson cruz they are very good for spiderlings but i am not sure they are for adults.
Zaujímavý Hmyz that makes sense...they are probably too small to be of interest to adults.
I have 20 slings. Im just tryna find an alternative feeders for em little slings of mine
jayson cruz these ought to work for you then. 👍
How much for a starter colony
Nature Zone I am not working with these beetles anymore ...
Oof
Aquarimax Pets Mind if I ask why u stopped working with them?
I learned that there were some legality issues in my area with this species.
Aquarimax Pets I see! Thanks for quick reply! One more question: besides fruit flies what would u say is the best feeder insect for mourning geckos? I’ve gotten so tired of dealing with mites in fruit fly cultures! 😫
Sent you an email on your website
At 2:00 "...and place it in the TRASH" double voice saying "trash" :O Same thing happens at 2:35 with word "Fish" :O
Mas_ ki weird! I had never noticed that...
@@Aquarimax Sorry I have sensitive ears.
Yes I noticed those transitions- very unnerving! 😅
i culture these with white beans
Ineovan Norbert which species do you use?
+Aquarimax in not sure...cant find the scientific name
Ineovan Norbert interesting though...not one of the "big three" beans that these beetles are recognized as doing best on, yet they appear to work for you. Good information!
