Would they be ok for a praying mantis nymph?
Hi I was wondering how to keep bean weevils during winter? Normally I set them near the heat of the light unit but I use low heat lights for brumation for my frogs.
Do bean beetles fly? I have some RETF tadpoles and was looking for some foods when the grow. Pinhead crickets are difficult to find near me.
Hi Joseph,
Bean beetles do fly, and they are pretty difficult for an animal to digest - so much so I'd recommend against feeding them as a staple. RETFs should be able to take 1/8" crickets right out of the water, and should be on 1/4" crickets less than a month out of the water.
They fly if the culture has a larvae/beetle to bean ratio. If a bean houses more than 3 larvae at a time the larva will recognize that the culture is too crowded and they will develop wings to try to fly to a new area with a lower population. If you have a very smal culture with a TON of beans, flying shouldn’t be an issue as the beetles will remain wingless.

What was the use of the paper tube?
Surface area for them to climb on and make it easier for harvesting
I ordered a culture off of ebay, with in 9 days they all disappeared, not one single one left. Temp was 70 at night and 80-85 during the day.
