The Spladle in MMA - A Single Leg Takedown Defence & Counter

- The Spladle is a folkstyle wrestling move that is a cross between the split scissors/banana splits and the cradle which is why it is called the Spladle. Wade Schalles invented the move and now teaches it as a catch wrestling submission.
It is different from a banana split as you will note that on a banana split the opponents head is facing away from your body and is on the mat but in the spladle it is facing towards you and on your chest. It is used mainly in folkstyle wrestling as a pinning move and used to score back points although it can be modified into a submission where it has been used successfully to win one recorded MMA match.
Wade Schalles now teaches this as what he calls a Pinisher, being a combination between the pin and a finish. He goes into excellent detail in the video here: • DEADLIEST MOVE!!! SPLA... . A key point he mentions is that the spladle can be used as a neck crank if you bridge your hips while the opponent is trapped. How hilarious would it have been if Joe had just held Nate in a spladle for the round?
I always put jiu-jitsu guys in Spladle for fun when they shoot in with their lazy singles. They then double my fun with an after-tap rant on how "this move is illegal" (logic being: coz they've never seen it being performed in jiu-jitsu circles).

Isn't Zabit Magomedsharipov's UFC 228 submission also a apparel submission? In the youtube video they only call it a banana split, but I think it's another example
