I bought both, and I can say with confidence that the Delguard is very useful, sometimes when i'm writing fast, the lead doesn't break, it's very useful.
Don't worry. I'm sure your mommy will buy you a good one when you grow up. Though calling these expensive pencils means you don't own ANYTHING writing related other than giveaways. @@jamesaritchie1 ok, chill that was a joke. I know it's unfunny but i was kidding. Kimberly Chan I think about getting the delguard in 0.3 to see if can work for me. My favorite Kuru Toga is the complete metal body with the cross hatch grip, then the Alpha Gel Slim. The grip is like...squishy yet firm gel. I absolutely like using it during school.
The Kuru Toga will always be #1 in my heart! As someone who draws a ton and loves the feel and functionality of a good mechanical pencil to a wood one, the Kuru Toga has been revolutionary to my stationery world. Never again will I suffer from the dreaded chisel nib.
Being a pencil fan, I have a good number of fancy mechanical pencils including some Rotrings, Faber Castells, and indeed Uni Kuru Toga. Although I love the Rotring 600 and 800+, my hand always looks for my ultimate favorite pencil, Zebra Del Guard. It's extremely comfortable to write with. It's an engineering marvel. By the way, as mentioned in the video, Kuru Toga has a weird feeling while writing. Although its idea is great, the feeling is kind of disturbing. Whenever I try to use it, after a while I get uncomfortable with that feeling and grab another pencil.
Huh, I’m kind of reversed. I love the Uni Kuru Toga, and I feel more comfortable with it in hand. But perhaps I’m just biased, as my first mechanical pencil given to me as a gift was a Uni Kuru Toga. Also, I can’t say much about the Zebra Del Guard, as mine was stolen about three months after I got it. :( However, even during the short time I used the Del Guard, I always somehow found myself with my Kuru Toga in hand. Oh well. I guess we can just agree to disagree, haha.
As a matter of fact, most comments agree with you. If I had one Uni Kuru Toga, I would say maybe my Toga is somehow broken but I have two, .5 and .7, I feel the same for both of them. The problem is that when I'm writing, from time to time it gets slightly loose obviously because of the spinning and it also sounds creaky to me... Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys their pencil.
Murat Ak Huh. Perhaps you bought it from and illegitimate seller? Mine works perfectly, and has for at least two years now. Maybe that’s just you though. If you bought both of them from the same place, it might really be from their supply. I personally have gotten a knock off Kuru Toga from a store, and now prefer not to buy over-the-counter pencils, without their packaging. But if you’ve bought them separately, it could just be your opinion. Anyway, sorry for being so defensive over Kuru Toga. I’ve just used this pencil for a really long time, and am rather fond of it. Thanks for being really nice and polite about it, unlike some other people I’ve seen on the internet. Then again, I’d assume that people on a video about pencils would be more polite, haha.
I find the Kuru Toga's with the clear window (standard, pipe slide...) have way more wiggle/movement to them than the roulette. I didn't like the feel of the pipe slide at all, but I love the roulette. If you haven't tried the roulette yet, try it before giving up on Kuru Toga.
I'm weird in the fact I loosen my pens because I like writing with a bounce.. Huh, looks like my current pentel sharplet is getting an upgrade.. Soon..
When it comes to drawing, you wont gain much benefits using a Kuru Toga mechanical pencil. It's not terrible and certainly you can use it for drawing, but the reason I say this is because, you are going to need a diagonal-sharpened lead when you do shading. Also, the lead doesn't always turn arround itself depending from which angle you do your strokes and lines, meaning the lead doesn't always stay sharp.
I HAVE BOTH OF THESE AND I LOVE THEM. I mostly use the kurutoga in class for notes and del gurad for sketching. I also own a .3mm led del guard that i use for graphing
I have owned both the Kuru Toga Advance and DelGuard Standard. 1. Looks. Here the Kuru Toga Advance wins, because it simply looks more stylish, with its metallic clip, multi-hole eraser cover and reflective white pencil body. The "rotating logo" of the Kuru Toga is also really cool. 2. Use. (with 4B lead) I must say, if "unbreakable" is important to you, go for the DelGuard. I have used it for pages upon pages of writing, and it only breaks if I use the lead with 3 clicks. With 2 clicks, I have barely had any lead breakage at all! I cannot say the same for the Kuru Toga, as it does NOT prevent lead breakage, and when the lead breaks, multiple pieces of it get stuck in the pencil tip, and I have to open up the tip to remove the debris - NOT a pretty sight if you are midway in a business discussion. 3. Price. The DelGuard is cheaper in my country, so DelGuard wins. Both a great pencils - a much better choice than going back to ink pens, in my humble opinion - and between the Kuru Toga and DelGuard, I would choose... DELGUARD.
I really enjoyed the video. As a user of Zebra and a fan of the them products, and even with the video showing the ups from Kuru Toga, I'd rather still prefer the Zebra. The unic system of protection and the various colours that they are disposable (I think that should be a item to be analyzed and that distinguish each ones) catches me.
I have both, and I Love the Uni Kuru Toga. I don't often break lead, but I am annoyed by having to frequently turn the pencil around to even the angle of wear on the tip. The Kuru Toga is my go-to pencil when I want to make notes or jot down my thoughts. The DelGuard is a brilliant design, and a good pencil, but having to continually turn it around still annoys me. The only thing that would make the Kuru Toga perfect was if it had a lead advance switch on the shaft where my thumb rests so that I wouldn't have to move my hand at all while writing to advance the lead.
I've used both, the Kuru Toga Standard and DelGuard Type-ER, and my answer: absolutely the DelGuard. The Kuru Toga mechanism doesn't work that much, however, the DelGuard isn't that overrated. It's spectacular!
Not quite the answer to your request of PvP, but it would be fascinating to know the most often purchased stationeries and pens and pencils from JetPens. You'd have to choose categories closely -- for example, it wouldn't be fair to compare high end pens to more disposal ones. Take care and thanks so much for being such a great company.
I got a bunch of delguard mechanical pencils (they haven’t arrived yet) since I’m VERY heavy-handed and breaking lead is a problem for me whenever drawing. Plus, I really like the style of the delguard.
Lead breakage is not an issue if you up-size the lead. I am heavy handed and have a 0.7 Standard Kuru Toga that I LOVE TO BITS. I've never once broke its lead while writing. I bought it for university, needing a "workhorse" pencil that I can use heavily, and I do use it heavily, even today, having graduated. That's the only thing I would say.
I do write in cursive and have kuru toga v1 only, but can confirm that the writing does stay thin enough after 3-4 lines, where normal 0.5mm ✏️ starts becomming a bit broader in strokes.
I just bought my first Kuru Toga Advance. I really like the fine consistent line it draws. One huge issue I have is the size of the eraser. I wish one of the companies that makes these state or the art rotating lead pencils would make a model that takes the larger sized Pentel Twist-Erase eraser. I don't see any point to the tiny erasers most mechanical pencils have. Since I started using the Kuru Toga Advance I haven't bothered to use the eraser even once. If I use it, then all to soon it won't be there. (Someone translate this into Japanese and get it to the right people. Domo arigato! )
Im really amazed by the kuro toga as a artist i often experience where in the lead of a normal mechanical pencil becomes uneven resulting to chisel tip lead the kuro toga is the soulution for my suffering
I have .7mm Kuru Toga & .5mm Delguard. Delguard works together with HB lead which is stong enogh. I tried with any generic 2B lead and with 3 clicks the lead broke when xtra side pressure was exercised, so 2 clicks is recommended. I'm not saying Delguard is not good, but HB lead works better in the whole concept. {HB doesn't smear for the long period archive writing too} Kuru Toga v1 is good enough even in .7mm to provide even thin line. So i like both of them. Slight bigger Kuru Toga diameter sits better in my hand, while smaller Delguard suits for small writing.
i'm not sure if the other models of the kuru toga work similarly, but i have the standard model which i use for sketching and i find that the turning mechanism is absolutely useless when you use light strokes
Me too. I have a roulette. I disasembled it, cut a little part of the spring and improve the sensibility of it. But beware, if you cut so much, it would be useless
I have both and hate each one with a passion. Both companies as a pen company are way better. Uniball has the DX line. Zebra has the Sarasa Clip and Vintage line. The best mechanical pencil company is Tombow.
Always recommending kuru toga.....use it with a high quality lead and its unbeatable....not recommending the pipe slide or the advanced ....those two gives me a bushy feeling.....but in other cases just write using it without thinking and it would give u a premium writing experience ...
I'd love to see a video on any arthritis-friendly products you may sell. I can't use a lot of stationery items because of my own arthritis and I don't always know how to tell whi ch ones I will or won't be able to use. Perhaps one or two products from each type of pen and pencil?
Look in the ergonomic section of pens and pencils on jetpens.com! I would also recommend gel pens over ballpoint as they don't require as much pressure to produce ink.
DelGuard is the one for me because I love the line variations the slant lead tip offers while sketching. But I would really like to have Kuru Toga for when I am taking notes.
I love the Kuru Toga one because I love the needle tip and there's a squishy grip at the end of the pencil that I really love, because I grip my pencil really near the bottom so I need a grip that is at the end. I don't know about the Delguard pencil, but the Kuru Toga pencil I normally buy have cute designs in pastel color like Sanrio characters, snoopy etc.
Kurutoga for most applications is just an unpleasantly springy pencil. It's a thoroughly japanese product, perfectly tuned to their writing system that's heavy on short and thin lines.
Delguard will suit to you, it does have smaller outer corpus diameter, odd enuogh i still struggle a bit using delguard, so i need to use it more often.
I love both my Kuru Toga and Zebra Delguard. The Alpha gel grip it to die for... If I were to only pick one, I'd choose my Kuru Toga advance due to the spinning mechanism as well as the lead sleeve... I love both pencils though!
4:07 vs. 4:10 The exposed length without the sleeve protection mechanisms is almost double for the KT???? You can see the pencil is lifted off the page.....
I’m getting the Delguard and Tombow mono (the one that you shake and lead comes out) this week. I prefer the Del guard over the kurutoga because I write in cursive and honestly really like the chisel tip of the lead (I don’t write much with pencil for obvious reasons and the chisel tip is great for line variations between thin and broad for shading), the kurutoga is kinda expensive and hard to find where I live anyways, I’ll wait for the one shop that sells the advanced model to restock and get that one instead. I’m getting both because I am a heavy writer and sketcher and I’ll be using the Mono for math (we do lots of graphing and geometry in general where I live) because it has the needle tip.
"I'm often asked which mechanical pencil I would pick: The Uni Kuru Toga or the Zebra Delguard. Well, the answer is neither: the Pentel P205." But more honestly, I've had problems with the Kuru Toga not rotating fast enough and creating a tip that breaks easily. The Delguard is more suited for my heavy writing and breakable no-repro blue leads so it wins in my situation.
Using rotring, pentel, kacogreen, zebra drift, kokuyo, sakura cushioning, kuru tuga, delguard, i like uni kurutuga as vfm product in india it cost 2 $ and have good function second del guard third sakura
Tbh, the kuru toga is probably the best when it comes to sketching and drawing. The springiness means you can get great gradation from the lead without needing to switch grades, and its just a workhorse. I've got 2 I've had for about 4 years, not once have they failed me
Hmm interesting, honestly I would prefer delguard cuz I don't always like my lead sharp due to rotational mechanism of kuru toga, blunt ends help in shading, besides I'm heavy handed with a death grip so Delguard suits me better 😅
I love your videos so much and its such an inspiration to watch you guys. Because of you guys, I have a stationary collection from your site! I bought the Zebra Milk Pens and Pilot Juice and I was wondering if you can do a duel on it! Love from California 🇺🇸
I bought both Delguard and Kurutoga mechanical pencils in 0.3mm and pink colors. I like the delguard since I have a deathgrip but I also like kurutoga for sketching and lines.
Let's answer this question once and for all! Ok...you guys decide based on your writing needs. Come on JetPens, take a stance. Our reviewers of these pencils enjoyed using this one the most.
I am super heavy-handed and my Kuru Toga just gave out on me. It cracked around the barrel where my hand goes and finally shattered despite taping and babying it. It did last quite a while, maybe a year and a half with daily use of both writing and drawing. I was pretty disappointed with the Dr. Grip so guess it's a Del Guard for me and my death grip. I'm one of those people who uses a pen in a notebook and you can clearly see what I wrote like 4 pages prior because it is embossed deeply into the sheets. The Graph Gear 500 was good, but it was my first non-CVS like the good ol' Bic or Pentel Champ. Now if only these brands started selling their cuter options in the US. I'd love to more easily find Jinbesan, Gudetama, etc mechanical pencils.
Hope everyone enjoyed the video! What PvP should we do next?
highlighter vs highlighter
pentel vs zebra mildliners
energel v sarasa
Uni shift vs pentel graphgear 1000 vs rotring 800. Battle of the sleeve guards!
Tombow Mono Graph vs Uni Alpha Gel vs Pilot Dr Grip Shaker?
Zebra Mildliners vs Uni-Propus Window Hilighters
Imagine if both companies made a pen together to create a pen with both functions
although it won't protect against lead breakage, the kuru toga alpha switch will do everything mentioned except lead breakage.
I’ve been using a kuru toga advance upgrade for a year now, lead has never broken. Often never mentioned, but the kuru toga advance upgrade has a protective sleeve that retracts similarly to the Orenz Nero.
I hope that

My kuro togas clutch broke and my delgaurd is still going strong
THE VIDEO IVE BEEN WAITING FOR MY WHOLE LIFE
now you can attain Nirvana..
We tell you what best to buy... blah-blah... you should decide by yourself, thanks for watching.
I have the delguard from my local Walgreens for $5 :P
The kuru toga advance pen is really a bit too large for a small hand. As smmothly as I writes, it gets pretty uncomfortable after a while.
Delguard will suit to you, it does have smaller outer corpus diameter, odd enuogh i still struggle a bit using delguard, so i need to use it more often.
Simple just get them both
I love the Uni kuru toga!
I have both! :D I love them
I love both my Kuru Toga and Zebra Delguard. The Alpha gel grip it to die for... If I were to only pick one, I'd choose my Kuru Toga advance due to the spinning mechanism as well as the lead sleeve... I love both pencils though!
4:07 vs. 4:10
The exposed length without the sleeve protection mechanisms is almost double for the KT????
You can see the pencil is lifted off the page.....
May you please do a Pen VS Pen with the Pilot Juice Pens and Zebra Sarasa Clip Pens!
I prefer the Kuru Toga.
Anh Huỳnh Kim Nguyễn If you're looking for products that are easily shipped to VN, take a look on Aliexpress.
"I'm often asked which mechanical pencil I would pick: The Uni Kuru Toga or the Zebra Delguard. Well, the answer is neither: the Pentel P205."
But more honestly, I've had problems with the Kuru Toga not rotating fast enough and creating a tip that breaks easily. The Delguard is more suited for my heavy writing and breakable no-repro blue leads so it wins in my situation.
why pentel p205?
kuru toga alpha gel is my ride or die pencil. i often write for long periods of time, and the grip is a godsend for that
lol i couldn't decide so i brought the two
I have both. But im using delguard more cause i like the body more. Looks classy 😄
I legit just got both of these😂😂
0.5 DELGUARD !!!
Delguard makes your handwriting messy and sloppy
Using rotring, pentel, kacogreen, zebra drift, kokuyo, sakura cushioning, kuru tuga, delguard, i like uni kurutuga as vfm product in india it cost 2 $ and have good function second del guard third sakura
If I could add to the KuruToga the graphite is super smooth and doesn’t smug and bcuz of the spring inside it’s like writing from height altitude🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not trying to be rude or anything, but I prefer the girl's voice.😅
Tbh, the kuru toga is probably the best when it comes to sketching and drawing. The springiness means you can get great gradation from the lead without needing to switch grades, and its just a workhorse. I've got 2 I've had for about 4 years, not once have they failed me
Hmm interesting, honestly I would prefer delguard cuz I don't always like my lead sharp due to rotational mechanism of kuru toga, blunt ends help in shading, besides I'm heavy handed with a death grip so Delguard suits me better 😅
i draw as a hobby and i NEED my pencil to remain sharp because i like drawing very small. i would guess the kurutoga is the one for me.
I have the delgurd and I love ittt
I own both, Kurutoga is not as good as Delguard. Kurutoga feels cheap...my comment only apply for writing.
i wanna buy delguard because their have conan edition but i like kuru toga feature more
can't choose, help😭
Welp, i'm Kuru Toga all the way, but some of the people from the r/mechanicalpencil worship the delguard
I love your videos so much and its such an inspiration to watch you guys. Because of you guys, I have a stationary collection from your site! I bought the Zebra Milk Pens and Pilot Juice and I was wondering if you can do a duel on it! Love from California 🇺🇸
We'll add it to our list! Thank you!
:)
I bought both :')
i have both of these pencils and i also have a Rotring
It's straining my fingers rotating the delguard everytime I use it. I'll have to try a kuru toga in the future.
What are the best markers for art I love your Channel
Good
It depends on what kind of art you're doing! Check out our blog for recommendations: www.jetpens.com/blog/markers-felt-tip-pen/ct/40
Get both and enjoy them.
I used kuru toga for a few months, but I couldn`t get used to this slight... whimsyness
Very tired of sharpening modern-day pencil, ‘cause graphite always break while I was writing. They are the best mechanical pencils I ever had!
I bought both Delguard and Kurutoga mechanical pencils in 0.3mm and pink colors. I like the delguard since I have a deathgrip but I also like kurutoga for sketching and lines.
The dropping thing is great for me cause I spin my pencils 😅
Let's answer this question once and for all! Ok...you guys decide based on your writing needs. Come on JetPens, take a stance. Our reviewers of these pencils enjoyed using this one the most.
Can I have one reloutte for your number ONE fun bout but now still can’t afford it
I am super heavy-handed and my Kuru Toga just gave out on me. I'd love to more easily find Jinbesan, Gudetama, etc mechanical pencils.
although it won't protect against lead breakage, the kuru toga alpha switch will do everything mentioned except lead breakage.
