For those of us allergic to silicon let me offer thanks to Jet Pens for stocking so many choices that don't involve that particular substance. I am also left-handed and prone to breaking lead so very happy to have these models that minimize lead breakage.
Lately I've been watching these videos for nothing but comfort. I love everything you show. I'm looking forward to buying a lot of these things as well.
I used a graph gear 500 all throughout middle and high school. I had a Kuru Toga I got in middle school too but someone stole it and I never got a new one. Now im in college and I want to expand my collection of mechanical pencils again so I just ordered a Graphgear 1000 and I’ll order a Kuru Toga soon
I heard about this mechanism and when i searched, i was overwhelmed with the number of models! I chose the one that’s within my budget, and I’m glad it’s a W model! I use 2B leads too, so i guess i was lucky😂
@@GeneAuyeung even the metal have a lot of plastic components. Just the outer shell, tip and clip is metal. Also I do not get why they had to keep the damping part exclusive for metal one because even that part is plastic and they could easily be added in ks model

I am a lover of many of the products you sell, but I don't always know why one line may be better for my needs then others. Thanks!
I have the 0.3 and 0.5 alpha gel switch options. The cushion really pays off for me when I'm writing. I also have a Del Guard which I never use any more because I like my 0.5 gel so much.
I loved how Uni Kuru Toga has revolutionized and evolve the mechanical pencil as a whole by offering different models. Some of overengineered with a purpose. But there is something for everyone. Ever since Uni Kuru Toga sold its first mechanical pencil back in 2008. I bought 1 from Maido or somewhere that was available in the US. I use it for exams, and solving problems in math, and when I was going back to school in college especially Accounting and Finance. I just loved it. Then I upgraded to the Uni Alpha Switch and have the Advance at work. These are just awesome pencils. Thank you Jetpens for highlighting Uni's kuru toga.
I have the Advance model and use it regularly in the office for sketches and calculations that aren't worth committing to ink. Yes, even in the days of CAD, a lot of engineering work happens with a pencil and paper. 😁 The balance and refined style make it worth showing off occasionally and writing with it is always a pleasure. I only wish the full metal models were available with the faster rotation mechanism. I'd snap one up in a heartbeat!

I’ve always used kuru toga alpha gel mechanical pencil had them in three colors. My two year old son recently destroyed my pink one, so I replaced it with the lavender one. Been using this brand for many years and I have not gone back to any other type of pencil.
I love these. I wish they could all be automatic like the Dive. But they are all really nice. Getting me back into writing. I bought a standard but the Advance models are nice with the W Speed engine. I had also picked up an Elite what I assume is the same as the Roulette which gives a nice heavier feel.
I really love the look of the kuru toga metal in blue, very modern. Unfortunately I live in Canada so including shipping the pencil would literally cost like $100 CAD. Any idea when the metal would be widely available on sites like Amazon?
I have several of the Kuru mechanical pencils. I love the feel and how it writes . Of course, if I had extra cash, the top of the line would be a great choice!😊
I have the advance and the dive. I love using the dive. It looks classy and feels great to write with. I’m using it to write an entire copy of the Psalms in the ASV 1901 translation, and I’m up to Psalm 23.
Oh damn, I didn't know about the KS mechanisms. I found (in the normal mechanism) that the tip shifts back enough to make the first contact feel just a little bit vague. But for me that was enough to stop wanting to use the pencil. But as promised, it was always sharp so it depends on your priorities.
@@gauthamtvpm I really like the body of Dr grips. The grip flairs out at the end which helps stop my fingers from sliding down to the tip. Also they have the cutest designs out of most brands I see.

While dive...... Priced way higher and I don't really like the look for outside daily use. Maybe they could've made a new dive model with metal body.
This is a great video and a great mechanical pencil. I would love to buy one, but they don't sell where I live and I only was able to buy Uni Kuru Toga Standard Mechanical Pencil which broke after about a week.
some of y'all in the comments are annoying me, so here's a story about why this mechanism is cool and important. I am neurodivergent. one of my physical symptoms is that I grip my writing tools too tightly and press too hard. (this is why you will see very thick crayons marketed at nd teens+adults, a lot of us have trouble regulating pressure and grip.) I was undiagnosed until 4 years ago, meaning I spent my school years with horrific handwriting, using a pencil with lead that was too thick because at least it didn't break every five letters, having meltdowns when I tried to study because I literally couldn't read my own notes. It is beyond humiliating to realize at 16 years old that *you never learned how to use a pencil correctly.* would this pencil have made me a straight-A student? of course not. would it have been an accessibility aid for me, and thus made school less traumatizing? absolutely. is it also kinda silly for people with excellent motor control to worry so much about Aesthetics that they buy pencils with innovative tech built in for always-precise lines? Yes. anyway, I hope to try one of these some day. ❤️
There were Zebra del guard models and Pentel orenz. Del guard can take whatever you give it, while orenz can take slight pressure and take less press for lead advancement. While orenz Nero or advance are relatively new models having auto lead advancement
This is the only mechanical pencil I can use. Because the lead is always sharp It doesn't do that thing where the flat side of the lead screeches across the paper! That was my biggest pet peeve in school when everyone around me was using mechanical pencils and they all rubbed against the paper like the screams of a thousand lost souls.
If only Uni would replace that cheesy eraser with a proper metal-holder eraser like a Pentel GraphGear 1000 (my personal favorite). I would be all over their metal version of the Kuru Toga if they had a decent eraser.
I liked the rotating lead on my Kuru Toga, but I didn't like the grip. Too high for my liking. My handwriting didn't look good using it. I also didn't like how wiggly the lead was which I think contributed to the poor handwriting. I went back to my Pilot Color Eno which have absolutely nothing special, but have lasted years. My Kuru Toga didn't last 2 years before the tip broke. I might give the ks a try once I run out of 0.7mm leads.

It's designed in Japan for writing Japanese characters. If you ever try to write a language like Japanese, on a small scale, you'll instantly understand the value of a constantly sharp point. As their characters have many times more little strokes in the same space that English has but a few. A blunt lead can lead to illegibility. For English script and similar, it's not as pertinent; it becomes a matter of preference and appreciation for small details. For artists and drafters who draw long strokes, they'll see little to no benefit. For artists who draw lots of little strokes, they'll appreciate consistent line width. This is because the mechanism only turns when you lift the tip off the page. I also just remembered that some mathematicians appreciate it too.
