- Looking for the best mechanical pencil but you can't decide? Two top picks are the Uni Kura Toga ( amzn.to/2RaZ5iN ) and the Zebra Delguard (
If you want to save a dollar or two, then get the standard Uniball Kura Toga ( amzn.to/2BDlN9p ) instead of the Advance. This is the blue one in this video. If you want to upgrade get the Kura Toga Roulette ( amzn.to/2V5TE3N ).

In short: The Kuru Toga is for someone who doesn't want to rotate the pencil everytime they write, and the delguard is for someone who's heavy handed. So i don't think one is better than the other, but i think each one is providing something different for different types of people, if you are heavy handed? Use the delguard, if you like using thin leads but finding yourself braking it most of the time? Use the orenz, if you have hand fatigue when writing for long periods of time? Get the alpha gel it's not about what's better and not, it's just about your personal preference
You didn't demonstrate the other important feature of the Zebra: When pushing down at an angle, as in writing, the lead support tip protrudes out to cushion the lead and prevent breakage.
After watching this video, I decided i need both. Delguard for my everyday use and Kuru toga for my technical needs as an architect!
Everything I just happen to be looking at, you’ve got a video for it. Great channel
2019: kuru toga or delguard
2029:kuru toga + delguard + alpha gel + orenz nero

😂😂😂 all
I personally like writing with a chisel tip. It makes my handwriting bolder and it feels less scratchy. I'm also super heavy-handed, so the DelGuard is definitely the one for me!
I watched your Uni Kuru Toga video and wanted those, then I watched this video and now I want them all...😂
I also love how detailed the videos were, so thanks 😊
I did not know that there was a retractable version of the Uni Kuru Toga. I will have to buy that one. I prefer the Zebra DelGuard. Both pencils are great.
Thanks for this. I've used the Zebra Delguard to reduce lead breakage (it also has a nice "feel"), and was reasonably happy with it for several years -- until I recently got a Kuru Toga Advance , and I will never go back. The Uni both cushions the lead better, I find, and has the lead rotation feature which helps to keep it sharp. I like to pair the Kuru Toga Advance with Pentel AIN Stein 2B leads.
Get uni kuru toga ks which has less wobble
I am an extremely hard writer but I prefer sharp lines. Should i chose a 0.5 delguard or a 0.7/ 0.5 kuru toga?
Never seen a clear color option for the kuru toga advance before
You forgot the lead guard extension on the zebra, and the sliding lead sleeve in the advance, which are the main lead break prevention mechanisms on both.
That’s true
Zebra Delguard is my favorite
i have both
@@linchopham611 which is best?
Xtylish B uni is way better in my oppinion
Hello sir. I have the regular pentel orenz and the stein both in .3. The stein is a fixed nib and breaks lead easily, and the orenz has a sliding nib that protects the lead but it makes it scratchy.
But does the kuru toga protect the lead at least more than a fixed nib pencil with no springiness even though it's weaker than the del guard. Would you say it's better than a regular mechanical in protecting lead but not as good as a del guard. Or is the springiness just to weak to protect the lead any more than a basic mech. If so i may just get the del guard.
there are a lot of videos like this on youtube saying one is better for even lines, the other one for people who press down to hard and have a lot of mines breaking. but wich one works best on wood? when i mark out things on wood for woodworking.. i am guessint the delguard would be best bc some types of wood are not smooth bc of the pores and the delguard could prevent that from breaking the mine... guess i'll have to try that myself
I have both pencils. So how many types of Kuru Toga in the market
I have the roulette for kuru toga. I like it, but it needs too much pressure to activate the mechanism. So it's just a regular mechanical pencil in my hands. I thought about the advance, but I think the problem is the same.
Exactly the issue I had with the Kuru Toga. I was disappointed.
The kuru toga has a bit of both retracting and spinning
Zebra del guard is good for softer lead where it wear down faster.
While uni can rotate the lead so you can use it for writing.
But softer lead can break easily.
For softer lead that protection and not liking to advance the lead again and again due to faster wear down you can use Pentel orenz. With one full press the lead advance like 3mm and the sleeve protect it. As you write the sleeve will go inside thus you can write with that 4mm. Then again press for lead advancement. Great for longer write session with softer leads
Not flat as possible, but consistent point.
Zebra has a spongy feeling and I don't use it for that reason. In comparison, I prefer the Uniball mechanical pencil for its consistency. Check out the Tombow mono mechanical pencil with knurled grip and a 2.3 mm eraser, it's way better than Uniball or Zebra.
25Hz to Life it doesn't have a unique functionality though.
What's the name of the white pencil?
kuru toga slide pipe and kuru toga advance have the same engine in them, the 2x rotator one
Does the Kuru Toga come in 2mm ? Can't seem to find one...
I have a Zebra Delguard -Lx and its very nice and sturdy... I used to have a Tombow Mono graph shaker but the mechanism failed after using it for a year...
Didn't the delguard one feel very light after swithcing from tombow shaker?
Do kurutoga standard have auto reloading of leads?
You have a pipe slide in blue, not the basic. It's the same speed as the advance.
Thanks for the video (: I've a Pentel Graphgear 1000 with a 0.3mm lead and it's awesome! The lead will slide back, if you press the clip. It feels solid and sturdy because for the most part, it's made of metal. The only downside I noticed is that the barrel is made of plastic and starts to knurl, if you take the pencil apart. I'm looking for mechanical pencils to draw pictures and sketching. After watching your video, it seems to me the Kuru Toga isn't recommendable for drawing because of the self-sharpening mechanism and it may come unhandy. If you made some experience drawing with it, share your experience if you want. A few days ago I ordered two Zebra Delguard Typ LX pencils (I couldn't find the ER typ but it doesn't matter anyway).
No, it's not entirely true
I draw (traditional and digital), and I just bought a kurutoga..... It works just fine.... The lead turning mechanism works only when a little pressure is applied and when, like sketching out guidelines, we do it with a soft hand and by not applying too much pressure, that's where the nib/tip doesn't push inside for the mechanism to work..... Rest all, like while actually filling in details or when doing the outlines using the pencil, the kurutoga works to produce even lines (all are not the same width, but it can't be differentiated easily).
I've personally liked the kurutoga and the Delguard. I use both lol
0.3??
Type er sucks btw
Oof. I just ordered the plastic kuru toga in pink (not the pipe slide).
He forget something. Advance kuru toga has pipe slide mechanism that hide the lead behind housing tip/steelguard when unused and as you put force to it when writing, it pops up a tiny proportion of the lead just enough to be used to write. In terms of mechanism or innovation, kuru toga has an edge here. Even zebra guard's retracting mechanism is also included in kuru toga, just not as heavy as zebra. The drawback for kuru toga is that it feel squishy for people with very sensitive hands or people who know very well about his stuff in writing. The squishy feel is caused by the rotating mechanism since every line you stroke has to be registered to rotate the mechanism. Fortunately, for you to be annoyed by this feeling is very minimum since the bump is very short. Even when you can feel it, you will likely get used to it.
Excuse me but which I the two would you recommend for drafting or drawing lines? Thank you
Just to draw straight line, both are good. If you want to write or draw uniformly, kuru toga is the only option since the rotating mechanism keep your tip uniformly sharp. But if you are doing advanced drawing, use different stroke for effect or shading, and know how and when to rotate your pencil, better use wooden pencil. You pick zebra if you tend to overpull the pencil lead and tend to heavy press when writing.
@@afiffaizul wow thank you for the info. I mostly use mechanical pencils to draw guidelines for my calligraphy, a consistent line is really necessary especially for commission work. Again thank you for the information 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@afiffaizul I have both the kurutoga and the delguard. But unfortunately the delguard doesn't come in 0.3 size lead. Nowadays I most use my pentel orenz with the 0.2 lead size 😅😅
When I write with my Kuru Toga, the tip keeps retracting itself until the lead is totally back in the pencil body. Do you know if this is normal?
Dats its most outstanding feature..
You mostly have the pipe slide one.... Its normal and thats the reason why the pipe slide technology exists
Check your version of kuru toga. Is its standard one, your pencil probably have defect. If its pipe slide version or advance, its a feature to keep your lead at reasonable length so it dont break easily. You can even write when the lead is fully inside its metalguard/housing tip, just write regularly, the pressure is enough to pop up a nub of the tip, tiny enough to be noticed at writing distance, just enough for writing or drawing
Do the delguard use special pencil lead or just any 0.5 mm lead?
Its any 0.5 lead and thats the point of it being protective because the softness doesnt matter.
😀
@@plsdontcancelthecrew2thx84 I just order it. I ask this question because I saw 1 UA-cam video saying it has a special lead.
@@calvinyip364 oh ok what video?
Zebra delguard will solve my problem with .5 mm lead size, i would have *not* hating .5 mm pencil
But i recently bought uni kuru toga {not advance} with .7 mm
erick hidayat what model did you get? I can’t seem to find one in .7 & I don’t like the .5 lead.
Kuru Toga all the way baby!!!! Oh yeah. Love mine.
I really don't like the fact that Mitsubishi didn't make Advance with metal body. It feels cheap and flimsy. Delguard ER feels better on hand, a little bit more weight does help.
But in my experience, the kurutoga works only if you push it a bit harder.... Its not like the mechanism always works
It is. Some people are light handed and are very careful to put a pressure, hence the mechanism sometime is not registered. But most of the time, or at least for overall session, it still keeps your tip evenly sharp.
Note that you have to push quite hard for the Kuru Toga's rotation mechanism to work. I write too lightly, so it doesn't work for me.
Kuru toga is also unpleasant to write with for people with cursive handwriting.
@@PreMal2023does that cause a lot of dusturbance like I write in cursive and confused between the both delguard and kuru toga
The black one is the us breakable pencil
As I use alot of pressure when I write so... Which pencil is best form Me??
Delguard
@@unsharpenok thank you so much😊
Hello
Why do you have to choose between them they're so inexpensive? Just buy them both!
I doesn't need uni kuru toga because I have a habit of rotating pencil by my own
In which mechanical pencil lead is not wasted because in almost all mechanical pencils lead is wasted
Please reply unsharpen😢
Platinum OLEeNU is what you need.
Dd you sand paper of the color or something😂
Delguard is expensiver where I live.
Its double price in turkey
Flight 32X yeah
süleyman ürgün hangi şehir de? İstanbul?
Flight 32X I was talking to the person who replied to me before as I realized that their username was Turkish and said that it is expensive in Turkey. I know Turkish so I replied to them in Turkish, sorry for the misunderstanding.
amazon japan ships worldwide sometimes.
If I had to pick a kuru toga model I would pick the roulette for delguard I would pick the er
I personally have the er and it is great. it is smooth and the eraser feature is amazing. I am a pencil addict and if you like pencils a lot you should buy something good to keep them in I would recommend the hermit shell pencil case. it sells for 13.99. Your welcome
The difference is that the Delguard is actually good...
