It's cool to integrate skate obstacles into spaces that are meant for sport or recreation, it gives off a bit of "Street" vibes. problem is, these obstacles are often pretty wacky and don't get skated at all, I'm sure if they asked the skaters what they wanted built 99.9% the answer would be a long ledge-manual pad and a long round rail.
I agree o both sides because I like these kinds of skate parks because they have games and great for warm up runs but a really good skate parks are mad fun and usually have a bowl and what not but I find it mostly busy and that annoys TF outta when having a warm up session also Gate Keepers love those parks and if the gate keepers don't know or respect you that is a problem
I was just there a few days ago on my bmx with my kid, it’s a nice chill spot on a weekday but like you said, when it gets busy you just skate the other side of the ledges. You should have also checked out the skateable space nearby at Ewen park with some small quarters and street style ledges. Apparently the landscaping and outdoor space manager at inner west council is an ex pro skater and had input into this design. I could track down a contact for you if you wanted to dive a little deeper.
Oh dude that would be amazing. I’m might do some digging myself because that sounds super interesting! I’ve heard of that other spot too so I might have to check it out soon, thanks 🙏🏽
so many bad estate parks/skate spaces pop up all over Melbourne, usually built by clueless builders and designer, I'm sick of all the pump tracks too and it seems like I haven't seen a decent mini ramp for years which would be cheaper build and more fun than most of these wacky parks, there should be consequences for making a waste of space
As an old dude re-learning how to skate after an almost 20 year hiatus, I like this spot. It's chill most weekdays. Has enough I can push myself a bit or I can just practice Manuels and basic flat ground on the BB court. Have a few tricks I want to do on the weird bank ledges but my skill levels aren't there yet.
I actually frequent this spot most weekday mornings now, after leaving my parents home and no longer having meadowbank around the corner the flat ledge have become my heaven, scooter rider here!
its nice they're trying.. but why are the designs always so shit!? the councils should be accountable for wasting money, and not consulting skaters and hiring professionals who will make parks fit for purpose.
Its a great idea because it wont be over run by little kiddies using it as a playground. Its like a street spot but made for skating which is great. Why spend 10million on a skatepark that kids are gonna use as a playground or pump track, whats the point... Noone can even skate at skateparks anymore, its just a toddler scooter snake fest

Do you think councils should keep building little places like this or hold the money for a proper skatepark?
I like the idea behind it.

These small places in smaller suburbs encourage creativity so I think they're cool, but larger skateparks are more important.
That long bank looks like they creating a custom skatepark in tony hawk proskater and put down all the bank pieces available in the menu
It actually does! Now I can’t unsee it 😂

It’s great to see skate sections in and amongst what ever the area is. Yes 👍

Yeah dude, it's actually pretty fun and chill!
yo! this was my lockdown skate haunt. totally agree with the obstacles being near unskateable. one solid ledge would've been sick instead.
That stage looks so good, almost like a legit street spot. Same with the ledges. Cheers for the vid
Yeah the stage is actually sick!

That's a sick little local morning to spot for sure 👌🏼
Strangest Park Ive ever skated is at Forestville oval??
Great review and it's definately good enough for a quick fix.
You beauty Ace!
I haven't heard of that one!
Thanks dude!
oh shit you're talking about Melwood skatepark right??
that park was effectively my "childhood" skatepark. Slammed it down there for years.

I skate tennis courts and this would be perfect for me. Tons of flatground. Wish there were parks like this in my area.
Yeah it’s actually a super cool spot!
Looks more like a modern art installation and not a skatepark tbh
Skateable art sounds good!
Yeah, could also make skating more "normal" to the general public@@LeonPaxton
If only they just put concrete benches without coping, it would be a riot!
Drinking game: Take a sip every time Leon says "creative." Hehe
he only said it like 4 times blud
If it dosent have a curve, I feel like the council built it
Question is who the fudge keeps designing them?
I’d like to know too lol
@Jonny_Nemo yes but the designers need to be looked at
bro those angles are comedy
Haha this is near me and I've always looked at it and thought who the fuck designed this?! Might have to actually give it a skate!
It was actually kind of fun lol
You need someone like Andy Anderson to skate those weird bank/ledges
He would kill this spot!
Looks like some kind of graduate design students "creative expression".
skate spaces > skate parks. Unless you absolutely gotta train for SLS or something. Some of those features are pretty interesting though.
I feel like this kind of stuff is more fun in a way too 🤔
yeah more skate-able parks
Go checkout redbank skatepark in the Hawkesbury
On such an obstacle gotta ask the question "what would Daewon do?"
He would fakie manual the whole damn thing!
it cost 300
legal graf whall, dang!!!!!!
finger board and finger paint in same spot, dope
When you order a skatepark from temu….
Fully! 😂
Looks like actually super cool obstacles, nothing wacky about them...
Whacky as in out of the ordinary, I’ve never seen anything like this before lol

Still better than nothing.
100% agree!
