- I spent over $230 on Google Ads using the UA-cam Promotions Beta tab to try and grow my UA-cam channel. All of the results have been recorded in Google Sheets and it shows the cost per impression, cost per view, and cost per subscriber for all the video promotions.
Is UA-cam Promotions Beta worth it? The results of the experiment are surprising.

I think it's worth it for small channels, it'll help you build momentum and gather an auidence.

I'm a small channel. It bumped my subs, but they act like ghosts, they don't comment, they don't like. I only chose to promote in in western Europe and the US, so no possibility of fake views. The two videos I promoted, both flat-lined after the promotions ended.
While it was exciting to see the views and subs going up fast, I wish I could get back to where I was before, and get my money back.

But in all honesty, I did stop my promotions after the $500 spent and probably won't reactive (still thinking about this though)
I haven't, but I read/seen vids that mention bad things about trying to reach all countries. Specially if you promote to places like India, China etc.
Most channels who've tried this say their vids didn't get many watched hours at all.
Not sure what to think, but YT should be more transparent with this whole thing.

I started my promo of £100 last night, I gained almost 400 subs in way less than 24 hours! I’ve hit almost 1k views in that time to, I’m shocked

I appreciate your video. My channel had a respectable amount of viewers and subscribers in the past. However, when I promoted a single video on You Tube, the channel completely stopped moving (it was shadow banned), which meant that the number of subscribers and views had completely decreased. Any suggestions on how I might return it to normal?

I'd recommend stopping UA-cam promotions and just focus hard on organic in the coming weeks. Make as many videos as possible this month, on a similar channel topic, to get back on track.

I did a test run on one of my videos for a promotion. I spent $80 for a ten day run. So far on day two 250 subs and about 300 views. My question is, these subs that were acquired for the promotion, will they return for content? It's hard to say. I don't see how this can hurt your channel. If anything you will get some kind of exposure. Cheers and new sub here.
My experience is that these subs WILL NOT return for future content, which makes UA-cam promotions a waste of money.
However, I haven't tried this in a few months now so maybe it has changed?

Would you say the UA-cam Promotion (Beta) officially works to grow channel ?
I originally spent almost $1000. It did NOT help with growing my channel. Would actually say it hurt it. My channel blew up once I started making daily content (and you should too 😊)
Have you experienced the issue with it not pushing your promo's? I only did 3 countries, it's active and i'm not getting impressions. I'm going to add more videos, lower the per video budget and adding A lOT more countries
I have a few times. One time, there was a confirmed bug. The other time, I think my budget was too low?
Which countries are you targeting and what is your daily budget?
@@WesGPT on the initial attempt which was just one video I had a five day run for $100, targeting their default countries. Now I added about fifty countries, five videos, and 25-50 dollars per video total but I kept the default window so like Dec 3rd - Dec 16. They’re all approved but zero impressions so far (it’s been 4-5 hours)
actually...they just started kicking in with the exception of the first one...of course the one i really wanted. Strange! I think I'll pause that and restart it. At least it's now working!
It has taken 48-72 hours sometimes for my videos to start getting impressions - so it might just be in the "reviewal" stage still (even though it says active)
A few times, it didn't show any impressions for 2-3 days, and then thousands of impressions in a few minutes lol
I gotta question i used promotion beta when i started my channel and i stopped the promotion and have been having good engagement can i still monetize??
I am getting similar results to yours. I have spent about £30 and gained 220 subscribers. Will add a few more pounds, observe my analytics and see if its worth it 😀Thank for your detailed analysis

Thanks, I should have looked at your Video before starting my promotion. Does they count towards 1000 subs and 4000 hours needed to monitize. Just subscribed. Honest opinion.
Subs count, watch time does not (unfortunately)

So how do you decide which video to promote ... we have around 40 videos now , do I choose the best video ( most views) or a video that was one that was poorly received but we felt it should have done better?

So what happens if you lengthen the days or weeks? Does it matter? Plus is it better to promote a video or channel?
The longer you lengthen the promotion, the better it should perform (because it has more data).

You just have to lower the budget or make the end-date as soon as possible.

I haven't experimented with UA-cam Shorts yet, so only long-form content!
I paid for UA-cam Promotions for a certain video I have and it resulted in over 20 new subs. But strangely, the video has only 3 Likes. In addition, I'm only able to see a small percentage of the new subs as it seems many of the accounts have chosen to keep their identity a secret. This leads me to conclude many of these new subs are fake accounts. Anyone have any thoughts? Is it typical for people to sub to a channel because they liked a certain video, but not actually Like the video?
I need a little help, I promoted a video on Jan 24 2024 and till today (Jan 26 2024) it says pending? Is it natural? or do I have to do something about it?

I can't find any information about this but I vaguely remember watching a video where they kept monetization on and actually made back some of their costs. Can't confirm this though 😔

Hello, can someone tell me if subscribers count for monetization? It was once written there that subscribers who were added through advertising don't count. I still need 391 and don't want to be turned away from monetization.
As of my last checking, subscriber counts from promotions DO count towards monetization but the watch hours DON'T

It's all done through the Promotions (Beta) tab in UA-cam.
It's silly, but you can't see your ads in the actual Adsense account (it's only used for billing details)

Here's my theory. I watched 1-2 videos that were from an ad perspective, but after watching a couple of your promo-d things, you were in my feed a lot. I subbed after watching one of the non-promo'd videos.
Great tip on targeting everywhere with English language. When I tried it, I only did US, UK, and Australia.

Hmm, I haven't advertised in a long time now! Are you sure you watched an ad for one of my most recent videos?
I found that the views and subscribers I got from promotions, were actually HURTING my channel in the long run - because those subscribers were giving empty future impressions which hurt video performance.
As for posting to Reddit - I actually built a bot that did this automatically. I'll make a video about it soon :)

I know this because you can actually advertise on other people's videos without any restrictions. So advertising on your own content should be no problem.

Is it better to promote for views or engagement?
Depends on what you need! But I'd always choose "Engagement"
@WesGPT I did both, and the one for views got 5.2k views and 2 subs and went double the budget, then it was supposed to be. I set the budget to 17.5, and it spent 38.78.
Are you monitized?
I was monetized back in 2021 but lost it when I stopped uploading.
Currently, I'm 800 watch hours away from re-monetizing.

As of the time of this video, mostly bots. I haven't tested again since though (maybe it's better now?)

We don't know. People have answered on both sides. I stopped the promotions because I felt it was hurting my channel.

from my experience doing all countries does not give the best results, do like united states, India, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan

I believe the problem with selecting all countries is that the money you will earn per view will decrease with lower GDP countries.
So technically, selecting all countries should always give you the cheapest views and subscribers (because the ads algorithm tries to optimize). Your selection might not give you the most number of views because there could be a country, like Bangladesh, that will give you more for a cheaper price.
But you're right about earning a low $$$ per view when monetized. The point of my experiment was to see if I could get older vides higher in the search rankings because of a now-larger channel authority (more subscribers). So I tried to get the cheapest views and subscribers possible :)

I did add a few countries like Pakistan, indonesia, India. I added Egypt and Iceland. Got some pretty good results.

Tough to tell. They definitely don't BEHAVE like real subscribers (they watch the video for 30s). Feels a bit "botty" to me.

@@Hitchon It has reduced retention in a round-about way (these "subscribers" seem to get impressions for my new videos but they don't go watch it, thus reducing my CTR, etc.)
