Thank you
I think that ship has sailed for me. Been on youtube for nearly 17 years, since 2007 and I’m doing poorly. I tried making my videos presentable with custom thumbnails adding end screens and well wording titles but I didn’t see much of an improvement.
The reason why everyone has had a loss in viewership, and a lot of content creators are leaving, is because UA-cam now wants you to buy viewership and platform space. I said this same thing in the Think Media live chat, and they kicked me out and scolded me for it, so what does that tell you?
Yeah🎉
Wow
They want you to do all the work, invest all the time, and pay on top of everything a minimum of $150, to get views, so you can then maybe, hopefuly, luckily, monetize, so they can keep 45% of the profit...Sounds like good business.
@@DidacticEditions Accurate! 👍👍
@@RandomVideoCircus as a youngster I was in a band. Common theme among artists and youtubers psychology, is the need to be exposed. We'd go to a club to ask about performing there, and the first thing they'd ask was: how many people are you bringing? Similar to UA-cam: Do all the witing, recording, rehearsing, come to the venue and guarantee me sales, so I can give you a cut.....
We are gonna make it guys! Keep grinding!
Yes, I've tried it. Views and subscribers increase substantially. One bad thing. View duration drops significantly. Unfortunately, UA-cam doesn't promote to a target audience. Promotes to everyone. Not everyone will like and may turn away.
I was surprised how My view duration decreased substantially.
Something fishy.
Also if your looking to get monetized. The views, subs from the promotion does not count towards this
You don't need views for monetization you need watchtime very different things and while they claim suba doesn't count it actually does.
Started this channel 2 or so months ago. Initially used ads on the first 4 videos after that videos started taking off organically and already halfway monetized.
This is my 3rd channel to be monetized nearly fully organically with a boost here and there.
Someone did a try-out and said the subscribers are fake.
@@projectb3117 maybe they are but as i tested with this channel it works well to at least use ads to start. again halfway monetized and while most of that is experience from my main channels the ads did help the initial boost
@SagaDaGamer I'm a new channel with just 6 videos. Do you really think ads can be a good idea for that initial boost for my watch time and my channels recognition?
Wait so it doesn’t get monetized I mean UA-cam stuio promo should work
I'm fairly new here and have been using UA-cam promotions. I understand that these views are counted if the duration is over 30 seconds, but do they count towards monetization too? I meant if UA-cam pays for those views too.
i think a very small portion does, however everywhere it says it doesn't.
Another question I have - I am not sure if you've seen this issue or not. When I do UA-cam Promotions, they only seem to run overnight (North America's night-time that is). My audience in my testing has been English-speakers in US and Canada. But the promos only seem to be active overnight like between midnight and (say) 4am, my time. I'll run a promo for 7 days and it only seems to be active during those hours every night - never during the daytime. Any ideas on how or why UA-cam decides WHEN the promo will run time-of-day wise? It seems like I might have better results if the promo ran during the day (North America time). Thanks again!
Exactly the same for me. I came here looking for answers.
You may get a better answer by looking at where the views and subs are coming from (geography etc)
Mine as well. It only runs overnight.
if memory serves me correctly, it has something to do with when the advertisers want the ads to run. so depending on which country your existing subscribers are from, would determine what time of the day the advertisers want to target those specifically. for example if you're in the usa, and the bulk of your subscribers sit in india, your promotion won't run during your day-time. it will be midnight or something for you, and daytime for india. hope this makes sense 🙂
@@Dotain5minutes thank you. That makes a lot of sense. Very helpful.
I am now torn between using the promotion feature and just simply creating in feed ads directly in google ads manager. The subscribe button on the promotion campaign is intriguing.
I definitely recommend trying the promotions feature. And you could split your budget if needed.
Yes but the views don't count nor do the watch hour so what is the point
@@robertojlopezable to show people your channel exists in this saturated environment. What do you do to get views?
be careful I heard some people say it killed their channel.
The problem is that these views usually have very low avg view time and tanks the overall numbers for the video. I am not sure if this has any negative impact on the channel or the video itself. Otherwise I find that it brings good number of subs (not sure about the quality of those subs). You can't control the type of ad as well, sometimes it's display sometimes it's in stream.
All my views from the promo seem to be the first 30 seconds out of a 10 minute video. The campaign generated lots of views and subs but questions about they are 'quality' engagement.
I personally think that this tanked my channel. I did this on a video which ended up with a lot more views and subs, but for a video that was about 45 minutes long, the average view duration ended up around 19 seconds, which is about how long someone sees the preview promotion short video, not actually clicking to watch the video. I am still trying to recover a couple months later. Prior to this promotion as a new channel, my views were 900 - 1,400 after a couple of weeks, one video hit 3,500 after a few more weeks and had a lot of active comments. Since the promotion, the numbers started going the opposite direction. 500 then 200, then 150, and some would do less than 100 in the first week. It's like the promotion tools work against the algorithm.
@@jhaereacts I got virtually no active engagement for the promoted content (comments, likes. views) but got lots of 'views' on the paid content and lots of new 'subs' - except over 90% of the new views/subs were from India or Pakistan - and I had NOT chosen those countries for the promo.
I got hardly any notifications of new subs which it took since 2008 to get 500 and jumped to 6K+subs in a month of the promo.
Before this weird exercise every new sub I was getting an email notification.
And like you - the average view time was 30 seconds over an 8 minute video.
And after the promo ended my entire channel virtually froze with only a trickle of new views and subs coming through over 100+ videos.
@@rainscratch 😭 I’m two secs from starting a new channel. Hopefully they figure out a way to fix it. Targeted audience is all they need. By region is not a target audience. Even allowing a “keywords” or “search phrase” input at just a limit 1 would help tremendously. that way we couldn’t put in 50 tags and 20 phrases and there would in theory be a balance
@@jhaereacts I am facing the same issue, bring out one awesome video with a very high likability to start getting back on track, anyway have you tried google ads? let me know your experience if you have
Great walk-through! I think something I’d like to see from UA-cam are more Targeting options besides locations-like topics & interests. But great tutorial nonetheless! 🙌🏾
UA-cam Promotions has helped my channel immensely. Yes the average few time has dramatically decreased to a mere a few seconds however, since I featured product placements and sponsorships, it is the subscriber account and view count which my clients look at. These have all increased significantly and guide much more business.
In first promotion, mostly of your new subscribers and views was from India? (Because there lower CPM)?
Yes, the geographic targets you choose will be a factor when running promotions.
Yes . 😂 low
This is a great video which break’s everything down in a very easy to understand way. I’ve also tested the promotion feature in studio with great results. I only set my budget to $10 so it costs roughly $0.60 per day. Definitely helps in my opinion to help get your new content out there for a small creator
It works for my channel.
@@shacklesoffare u monetized yet

If i remember correctly Promoting your channel does not help twoards being eligable to apply to be monetized, We would all be monetized otherwise
@@TheDancingGamer01 yeah
This was a really great video and I need to think about it. I know it sounds strange, but part of me likes a small barrier to subscribing (e.g. need to click on the video, then hit subscribe on the screen) because you'll likely build a quality subscriber viewership that way - people who are genuinely interested in the channel and content. I wish I knew how these subs acted when compared to other subs but that data is too granular. But great video nonetheless and I will try this out vs the in-feed ads and then make a gut call on cost-per-subscriber.
🤔Interesting, you said you are promoting a video that didn't do very well on its own. My theory is you should promote the best performing video you have, because in the YT game, the more your video goes up in quality in a linear fashion, the rewards (views, subs) go up exponentially.
Hey, would you say it performs better than using direct google ads?
Isn't it the same thing?
Can I add promotion option to videos under 1 minute or shorts? Thank you
I appreciate your video. My channel had a respectable amount of viewers and subscribers in the past. However, when I promoted a single video on You Tube, the channel completely stopped moving (it was shadow banned), which meant that the number of subscribers and views had completely decreased. Any suggestions on how I might return it to normal?
Sounds like we are all experiencing the same kind of results. Its GREAT, but then... I was hoping this video explained the difference between the Engagement and the Views promotion types. I have actually considered starting all over with a new channel.
UA-cam are scum they restrict your views without any explanation why
How was the watch time on the video that you promoted?
When I do this and chose the budget $125 for example, to run april 22 till may 6th, it shows me a message: you will be charged every 1st of the month! I just want to spend $125 now and not every 1st of the month. Do you know if they will just stop and not deduct another $125 after May 6th? Thank you!
Well, I subscribed because you spoke real common sense.
Thanks for the video... but i didn't see promotion on my studio....do I need to update?
You have to use a browser to login to UA-cam Studio the mobile application will not work.

Thanks!
Oh....thank you
Does it no matter what max out at only the total budget? Because it went above it in the video but you said you got that bit back that it used over the limit
I've received credit back in Google Ads for the overspend.
Is there a way to cancel the promotion?
One thing I find, and I wonder if you've done a video on it, is how poor the watch time is on a lot of promoted videos. My typical watch time on a video is about 2:30 (probably when YT does the midroll ad. My typical view time for promoted content is about 30 seconds.
Since YT ranks channels based on interaction, watch time, etc., I'm curious about the long-term impact of this on discoverability. It seems like this leads to a cycle of needing to promote videos to get traffic, as the watch time drops the value of the video to the YT algorythm.
Looks like your channel views have gone down quite a bit since this video and promotions ran? Do you think running promotions had anything to do with it or perhaps it’s just the change in user preference to watch short form videos? Think you for this video. I t was very informative.
There have been some seasonal dips and spikes, but overall, I haven’t seen any major evidence of the promotion having a negative impact. I don’t see any way that there could be a negative impact either. Organic ranking etc. is always seperate to ads.
Were there any engagement...these may be bots.
They are bots
This promotion as a UA-camr do we pay for it??😊 Coz im amateur in the field 😊

Based on your last experiment, just plop down $300k and voila you could have over 1 million subscribers in no time. Thanks for sharing. Gave me a lot to think about.

Thank you for this!
How do I turn off stop paying
Thank you for testing and showing us the result. The comments are also inspiring. I think I will try this promo one time to see how it works for me. ☺
Very helpful!
I wanted to ask about the watch time. Have you seen a significant increase in watch time hours?
Usually they don't attribute the watch time but subscribers are given
Hi mate, quick question. Since you started using the Promotions feature has it affected the natural organic growth of your channel? I've heard reports that once you use the Promotions feature UA-cam will slow down your organic growth so you keep using and paying for promotions?
How to add Subscribe btn on the youtube video itself?
As someone who just started their UA-cam channel - I absolutely love this in depth breakdown! Will you continue to use this feature?
Hey! I have run some additional promotions to trial this advertising format, and I've been happy with the results. However, it costs money to promote videos, so moving forward, I will only be promoting videos that are aligned with my paid courses.
@@LovesData makes sense, thanks for the reply!
Are the subscribers earned through this add towards monitizayion. youtube says subscibers earned through promotion wont be counted towards the monitization program@@LovesData
Paid views are not counted towards watch hours.
How to add Subscribe btn on the youtube video itself?
Nice and interesting stuff, man, thanks for your test and advices! I've been monetized from 3 weeks now, was good 10 days and now I'm going really down! Cheers and good luck everybody!
Does anyone know if I promote a video, when or how they charge me? Does it come out automatically before you get a payment or do I use a credit card or? Appreciate the help!
You can use your credit card, promoting is not a good idea, when I not yet promote my channel usualy I get 100 to 200 views of my video in a week after I promote only 25 views. Big thanks to the promotion
Great video - I am learning about Promos right now through "trial and error." By the way, which camera do you use (if you don't mind sharing)? The footage of you speaking looks really nice.
Is it worth promoting a new channel with only a few videos?
So you only made about $1.00 after spending $150? Please advise if this will also help with ad revenue.
After watching this I wont be using any other promotion service anymore

Thats a rip off. Thats not even 300-350 subscribers WTF
You can try targeting a lower CPM cost countries. US, Canada and UK are pretty expensive to run ads on. Try other countries that aren't as rich, and set the language to English. The predicted views should go up.
It’s really helpful video. Thanks for sharing. Do you know, can I leave my monitization on while running UA-cam promotion or do I need to switch off monitization before running UA-cam promotion ?
are the subscribers real ones? do they interact or like or comment
? or just a number ?
Just a number and if you post a new video no increase on your views because you tube using bots the same of others promoting site
Does anyone know what to do if they reject your promotion for some stupid reason? It's missing some "appeal" button or something. They think my video is a political ad, probably because some fictional US president appears in it (videogame)
Great video
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
It can only be worth the cost if those new viewers and subscribers stick around to watch your other videos or new videos. The fact that a guy who "Loves Data" doesn't even address that is very telling.
Ha! I ran the promotion for my channel and I shared the results. I found it drove a decent number of views and subscribers, especially compared to other options (like third-party advertising partners and video campaigns in Google Ads, which I’ve also run). I also understand it’s not a fit for every channel especially because it doesn’t provide detailed reporting, so if you don’t think it’s a fit for your channel, don’t use it.
Never lose hope🥰
Great video. Thank you for the help! :) I will try that on my new channel😊
i see what happened. i subscribed 😊🎉😊
If I promote my content, it says subs and watch time earn do not contribute towards UA-cam Partner Programme eligibility.
The subscribers count, but the watch time does not count. That is why you have to run you promotional videos unlisted and link a published video on the end screen to get more views.
@@shacklesoff I do I do, but I have companies to campaign my contents, so don't know if they change it to unlisted.
Does UA-cam count the watch hour
What about watch time? Does the fact that most watch times on ads will be under 30 seconds sabotage your video in the algorithm's view?
Even UA-cam is not considering watch time through promotion for YT partner program, It seems waste of Money in such case.

I will share results here in coming weeks.
I have lost my option to promote my youtube videos and I am wondering why is that
If you're getting into UA-cam to make money from advertising dollars on UA-cam - you completely have the wrong business model. UA-cam videos are just free advertising for your business, and the money the YT gives you is just the icing on the money cake. Affiliate marketing, online courses, consulting, merch, and memberships should be where you're focusing your energies to make money. Paying to promote your videos isn't about getting more UA-cam advertising dollars, it's about exposure for your "business" so that people can purchase you services and products. Most successful business tap into the many other revenue streams to make money. UA-cam is just a way to build a relationship and promote your business. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hi Does promoting vide on youtube through paid promotion. any subscribers you get from it. Is it counted towards total subscribers for monitization
no
It is.
I got 100 subs from my promotion and I’m seeing them count towards my 1000 subs goal.

Until now i didn't open my adsense account coz i need to open a Bank account 😅 first after that I'll try 😊
I've just paid to promote a music video, using the native youtube promotion, and the views are indeed growing fast. But it got me almost no likes and no comments. And the new subscribers, judging by the name of those profiles, don't feel like they would really subscribe to the channel. Doesn't this feel a little weird? I mean, isn't there a scheme kind of thing that can be going on behind the scenes?
Will I still earn money if I use paid promo?
No not on promoted views.
@@doylemaintenance what if I use Facebook ads to promote my videos
If someone finds the video organically, then yes. If they've found the video via the promotion, then no.
They told me I gotta build my history first.
I would definitely spend that money for the views and subscribers you received. I am having a hard time getting views on my channel and I am not exactly sure why that is. I think I will promote my channel.
How does this effect your watch hours? do these count towards your watch hours for someone who's working at getting monetized? and if they don't count, can running these actually hurt your watch hours? thanks.
They don't count towards watch hours for monetization, but do count towards your total number of subscribers.
I think the subscribers and watch time (gained via google ADS promotion) will not be counted directly in the subscribers and watch time required for monetizing the channel. The benefit is only that this promotion can bring more subscribers and watch time (by promotion of the videos) which may contribute in monetizing the channel. But this promotion does not directly contribute in monetization of the channel.
This is so bizzarre, I'm new to YT and to making ads, I've been putting load of work into my content and I decided to advertise one day because YOLO...

Hello… these view hours do Not count towards the goal of 4000 hours total views. Also, the subscribers do Not count towards the 1000 subs. The main question is, even though we know that the first two points apply, do FUTURE views from those subscribers count as watch hours on other videos you upload? That’s the interesting question that’s never answered clearly. Or, are the subs gained views forever excluded from watch hours?
Where does it say that subscribers from promotions don't count towards your first 1000 subs? Seems to be conflicting answers in the comments.
@@modernhipster If you go to the Promotions tab (and haven't run a promotion before), the second paragraph mentions: "Subscribers and watch time earned through a promotion do not contribute towards UA-cam Partner Programme eligibility."
Subscribers count, in spite of running a promotion, remember that most of the people who subscribe do not do it with just after watching one of your videos, they check some of your channel videos and then decide to subscribe or not, some few subscribe just by watching a video.
What does not count are the 4000 hours watched, the time the viewer spent to watch the promoted video does not count, but if you go back to the previous paragraph, the videos out of the promoted ones the new viewers watch as consequence of your promotion counts.
@Meanderluster this should make sense but UA-cam has a way of complicating things. Businesses do marketing so not sure why promoting a video is seen as a bad thing. Organic algorithm is hit and miss. People still have to click on the ad. I see sponsored videos everyday but i only click on ones that interest me. Am not a fake or bot subscriber.

Is the money free?
If you mean the advertising budget, no, you have to pay. However, I’ve found from the promotions I’ve run, a number of them have over-delivered. This means you get a credit back in your Google Ads account for the amount that was spent beyond your allocated budget.
If it's killing small UA-cam channels, why did UA-cam introduce it?
Did you earn money from the video?
Small Content Creators keep grinding it will happen
@lovesdata will these views be counted.
Views and subscribers will be included if your video and channel totals. However, UA-cam says they’re not counted for monetization, but someone said they found they were anyway. I can’t confirm this though because my channel was already monetized.
@@LovesData I couldn't see why they wouldn't count towards monetization. When you create your promotion, UA-cam doesn't state anywhere that these doesn't count towards monetization of your channel. Also when you look under your "Earn" tabs, you can see that the subs you have gain from promoting your video is stated there. I have googled around, and I cannot see that this should not be the case, that subs & views via promotion does not count towards monetization
I agree. However, they do say it in this support article: support.google.com/youtube/answer/72851?hl=en under ‘What do “valid public watch hours” and "valid public Shorts views" mean?’ - it says ad campaigns don’t count towards being in the UA-cam Partner Program.
@@LovesData thanks for the clarification. I can see that only counts on watch hours, so I would assume that any sub you gain from your promotion, is a valid sub and would count towards the 1000 threshold. I couldn't find anything under that link you send.

This is such a great topic of discussion however it leaves me with more questions. 🤔 so how does YT determine and able to split subs and views from promotion versus subs and views organically that can count towards monetization? 😮 there has for to be a mix because so many run ads on YT 🤷🏽♀️
But yet they are monetized. 🥸 perhaps there has to be promotion done off of YT/Google.
