Part of the reason the sequence of Lambert being sucked out into space wasn't filmed is because it's bollocks- this wouldn't happen- its only 1 atmosphere of pressure difference- you'd get a blood blister, that's about it! This is one of the things tha annoys me in ALIEN 4, the Alien is supposed to be virtually unkilkable- but it has the body strength of a maggot if its sucjwd out of a hole!
Yes, in reality it wouldn't work, but Ridley Scott didn't care. Ridley Scott as an artist realized events in the film that have raised questions in relation to real life, for example the dripping water in the claw room. Ridley Scott didn't care about these remarks, if a scene for him looked good on screen, it was filmed. As far as I understand, the airlock scene has been left out for cost reasons. All (almost?) material related to the airlock scene on the A-deck of the scene was filmed, but when the sets of the A-deck were changed to the B-deck, apparently the budget running out for shoot everything. Changed B deck sets was not suitable for filming the airlock scene as it was, it would have required further changes. In addition, the special effects in the the scene (acid corroding the door) possibly required more investments. But Ridley Scott wanted to film the scene and Lambert's absorption into space through a small hole, as he says in an interview with Fantastic Films (October 1979) magazine.
