I mean this does happen in the original game, Just slightly darker as he kidnaps Marlene.
Apparently he did it to prevent them from going to the temple because he wanted to protect them and let shinra be the ones to get themselves killed.

This "who's side are you on" I ask is probably the most literal. Reeve, you saw that Avalanche are the good guys. Why would you trust Shinra with it?
Weren't the other Avalanche way more extreme?

You need so much front and back story to understand the betrayal. Touching only the surface of both: Tseng himself is tied back to Reeve and his origins, and in DoC (the latest game in the universe timeline) Reeve is working his ass of to help the people and the planet recover from everything while Rufus sits on his disgraced ass and sometimes sorta maybe helps (intel and access to old Shinra secrets that he is aware of- yes there are some things he is not). We really need a re-release of DoC but I dont know how they have time.
Rufus is also funding the W.R.O. very heavily though isn’t stating that it’s him doing so

I mean, how did the crew know to trust him in the first place? He put in lots of effort to give trust... For what?

They're just true to the original game, Cait betrays the party there too.
In the original game didn't he capture Marlene and used her as a bargaining chip against Cloud and co. Good thing they removed that part as it made him less sympathetic.

@arnold666heartagram Its hard to want to like a party member who is only there because hes holding a kid hostage. In this, you actually feel like Cait (and by extention Reeve) genuinly just wants to help
@@CojaGamez Like that scene earlier in the game when Reeve hacked into the computers and made fake AI photos of Cloud, Barret and Tifa to protect them from the authorities.
Seriously this game did a number of scenes better then the og it's just I think the game suffers from 2 problems 1 being devided into 3 games and 2 the whispers and sethroth like they should have just had it be a straight up retelling of the game in one go.
The whispers were planned but cut content from the OG game
