I got both the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Combo Touch for the iPad M4 13”. Previously I’ve owned the Logitech keyboard cases but thought I’d try the Apple case for comparison. What I miss with this Logitech case compared to my last Slim Folio Pro is that it does not have a back flap that contains a slot to hold the pencil, a flap that folds over and attaches by magnet to the front when you close it. So I was able to easily bring my pencil with me, it sat safely inside the pouch in the flap where it was less likely to get lost vs if it was only sitting on the magnet on the top. With this new Combo Touch I would have to carry the pencil around with me which is less convenient. But the Apple Magic Keyboard has nowhere to store the pencil either. I like typing on both keyboards, think the Apple Magic Keyboard is a bit better. I find the Combo Touch’s cursor moves sometimes away from where I am typing to a random spot in a paragraph above. And issues with it deleting some text as I type it. Still have not figured out why that is happening and neither has Logitech. Looking like I have a defective Combo Touch and will have to exchange it. I found the Apple Magic Keyboard to be very top heavy. When sitting on anything but a hard surface it falls backwards if the screen is at an angle. Though do like its viewing angles. But Combo Touch’s viewing angle are fine too. In the end, the #1 reason I chose the Combo Touch is its hinge allows me to fold the keyboard not only forward to cover the screen but also back, so I can view the screen when not using the keyboard AND my iPad is still protected on the sides and back. I take my iPad everywhere, shopping, the gym, when traveling, etc so this is important. The Apple Magic Keyboard is good if you are mostly using it when at home but not if you are on the go. And adding ~25% to the Combo Touch’s price to buy the Apple Magic Keyboard makes it $$$. I asked the Apple people why their Magic Keyboard case does not have sides to hold and protect it… and was told it was not necessary since they have Apple Care. Yeah maybe but that is a paid service. Hmmm. Recurring revenue or designed-in obsolescence …
I am trying to figure something out, when you have it connected, it wastes your ipad battery right? what if you Use it where the keyboard is folded like in this video, does the battery still get taken up?
Hi JM My situation is identical. The bottom line is that I prefer the Mogi keyboards after all especially when comparing the price. I cannot see why the Apple KB is SO expensive.

Great review, thanks. A friend of mine just got a brand-new iPad Pro 13-inch and the Magic Keyboard. She ended up returning the keyboard because the big iPad would NOT stay magnetically "stuck" to it for regular use. I tried it a few times as well... very frustrating. Will definitely check out the Logi.
Thank you. Your review was very helpful and helped me make my purchase decision. Went with the Logitech option, mainly because of the protective case on the iPad. I frequently use my iPad alone without the keyboard. Don't feel comfortable with it NOT protected. Thank you again. 🎉🎉
The sides protection with logitech is extremely important, if the iPad falls while attached to the keyboard either open or closed, the tendency to fall on the side is 100% which has > 90% chance of breaking the screen (even with screen protector) basically what happens is the iPad falls on one of the 2 top angles & bends the frame inside which strains the screen and breaks it, when that happens in a tandem OLED display that’s gonna be painful
Thanks for the great review and comparing the two... One concern I always have is neither of these tend to "securely" store the Pencil. Some cases (keyboard case combinations also) either don't have a pencil storage at all, or they try to use an elastic or rubber "loop" on the outside of the case that gets weak over time. Apple pushes their new Pencil Pro, so they should get on board and have their new Magic Keyboard securely (internally) store the Pencil.
I think your video looks rather dim. Perhaps that's the wrong word, but not very saturated at least. That's not to say that the picture is not excellent but that's just my first hand impression. If that's a conscious choice i can respect that. It's probably more true to life.
Excellent video and information! I was looking for something on the new Logitech case. I have the new 13” iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. It replaced my 12.9 M1 iPad Pro. I bought both the Magic Keyboard and the Logitech keyboard for the M1. I used the Logitech for awhile and loved the extra protection, but ultimately I switched back to the Magic Keyboard because you can pick up the iPad and keyboard and carry it (while it’s open) around in one hand like a laptop. You don’t have to close it to move it or use two hands. That was a bigger deal to me than I expected. If I hadn’t gotten used to using the Magic Keyboard first, I’m sure I wouldn’t have noticed. The other thing is the extra port. That’s handy not just if the iPad’s port is being used, but also if the charger to plug into is on the opposite side of the iPad. As for extra protection, MOFT makes a great snap on case for the iPad Pro. You snap the iPad into the case and it magnetically sticks on the Magic Keyboard (as does the iPad without) and it docks the Apple Pencil too (while still allowing it to charge). You can also get a magnetic stand for the case so you can have the iPad stand alone similar to the Logitech case.
I used the combo touch previously but really like how the fact that it's up off the desk and the keys on the Magic keyboard was, at least compared to previous models, much better. If I'm going to use it primarily as a table for something, especially traveling or music, I just put it in a different case. Great and very thorough review!
I use my iPad Pro mostly while reclining on the couch or in bed, and a lot of that time I’m drawing/painting/sketching. The Combo Touch is far and away the better solution for me for this use case. The Magic Keyboard just isn’t stable in bed for me and often I can’t get the angles right for comfortable drawing. The Combo Touch keyboard folding back under the stand to create a flat surface is actually perfect for this use case and provides a stable surface for use in bed. Feels like a happy accident but it makes the Combo Touch basically perfect. I would buy this case just for this design even if I never wanted the keyboard or trackpad. It’s slightly less convenient to type on the Combo Touch in bed, but easily doable and I’m using it to write this post with zero issues at the moment. The ability to remove the keyboard when I just want to carry the iPad around the house to watch a UA-cam video in the kitchen or dining room is pretty great, especially as an upgrade from the 2021 Combo Touch which was MUCH bulkier and didn’t have the detachable keyboard.
Your post was helpful! I’m basically going to use it the same way you’re using it. I actually just bought both the Logitech Combo and Magic Keyboard (iPad Pro 13”) to compare them. The protection was a priority for me and didn’t want to worry about damage or dropping it while carrying it around the house/using it while traveling/laying in the bed. The Magic Keyboard is very nice but the Logitech’s features/versatility for my situation is working out perfect. I even thought about keeping both, but I know after the “newness” wore off, I’d be using the Logitech. I’m most likely returning the Magic Keyboard this week.
I got my nephew the esr rebound case and he’s very happy it more protective than the Magic Keyboard and more like the magic keyboard and I like how it hovers so you don’t need a surface
I ordered both cases, but decided on the Logitech case. I like the "kickstand" on it better. I also have a Surface Pro that uses that same style of stand, so I'm used to that. I just wish they had that pencil holder design of the previous Logitech case. And I use the ESR pencil and screen protector - no issues (other than the magnet on the ESR pencil doesn't seem to be very strong).
Excellent video and info. I have one on my 13” M4. One glaring disappointment is the lack of a “cage” for the Apple Pencil. While carrying the combo, or putting it in a bag, the Pencil likes to dislodge. Otherwise, this is another example of Logitech’s great design. Pricey but worth it. Thanks.
Thank you for the review. I have the Combo Touch on my M1 iPad Pro 11 inch. I am considering one of these options for my new M4 iPad Pro 13 inch. In all honesty, I thought that Apple would have created a case to protect the iPad when it's not on the Magic keyboard by now. Even a bumper case like they used to make for an older model iPhone would help to keep the edges more protected if a customer opted to go that route.
Magic keyboard with protected edges will be my dream setup. I picked up the Combo Touch because I use keyboard less, and I love the stand which does’t wobble in bed!
What made you go from an 11 to 13 iPad Pro. I have a M1 Macbook Pro, but will mainly use the iPad for video editing and photo editing. So leaning toward the 13. Right now I have a 5th G 8in iPad.
I bought the combo touch from Apple and am returning it. It’s actually not great unless you’re on a flat surface sit down on the couch and try to type with it. It’s bloody impossible.
Yeah, the confusion’s there because you have to add it to Control Center once manually, I guess. But honestly, even though I put it there four years ago when I first got my original Magic Keyboard, I’ve never actually used it because it just uses the ambient light sensor to set to a good amount of backlighting and I haven’t ever felt the need to turn it up or down on my own.
Great comparison. I prefer the smaller and more stable footprint of the Magic Keyboard. When I am in a restaurant sitting at my favorite sushi bar, the Magic Touch foot print being smaller works better than the larger footprint of the Combo Touch.
No doubt i dont like the Magic Keyboard because of its inflexibility but you can actually include the Magic Keyboard lighting button in the control center at the top right of your iPad screen. Not sure why you mentioned you can’t do that?
I am using the Combo Touch with the iPad Pro 11" M4 and it is great and very versatile. I just need to get used to the small keyboard layout (which wouldn't be larger on the MK).
People have stated they can charge at 15 volts and 2.6 amps, so just under 40 watts, both with the iPad Pro's Thunderbolt port or via USB-C pass-through on the keyboard.
Great comparison. I have only praise for the Logitech Combo Touch I’ve been using with my 2018 12.9 Pro for the past 6 years, and will opt for the Logitech again when I upgrade to the 13” M4 Pro later this year.
I just got it on eBay open box item for $90. The case was tight. i used a hair dryer gently and soften the rubber. it slipped pretty easy. The Logitech combo case protect the iPad and keyboard is on par the Apple case also you save a lot money.
I had “Combo Touch” on my previous iPad Pro. Unfortunately, the edges, where the cutouts for the volume buttons and speakers located, starts to warp (looking like a noodle) because they are too thin and has no rigidity.
I have the Logitech with the 11 inch iPad Pro. Two issues: I take a lot of screenshots and when I use it without the keyboard (which has a shortcut), holding the necessary buttons in the top right hand corner (when held vertically) is really tricky. Also, the rubber around the speakers and at the bottom of the screen keeps growing.
Great video, thanks for sharing. I read that Logitech combo touch doesn’t support nano-texture screen. So I am stuck with the expensive Apple Magic Keyboard.
Very nice review. I have had a combo touch keyboard on my 2021 12.9 inch iPad Pro since I bought it new. Zero problems or complaints except am I the only one who misses having a caps lock indicator on the screen? I will be purchasing the new model for my wife’s M4 iPad Pro. Thanks again.
Let me ask you this Costco has the Magic Keyboard on sale for $275 and that’s for the 13 inch iPad Pro M4 at the price point would you recommend the Magic over the Logitech combo
Good comparison, but I'm surprised that there was no mention of the warping rubber on the old Combo Touch around the speaker grills and corners. This was a common complaint on older versions and not sure if the new versions of the case will do the same thing.
I love my Logitech combo touch in my iPad Pro 11. Almost perfect, but I wished there was a small ledge on the side (like my DTTO case for iPad mini 6) so I can grab the iPad with it. There's just no way to grab/hold it with except smearing the lens with fingers. Hopefully next iteration.
I tried the smaller Combo Touch and the stand didn't extend that far (1:48) for a good drawing surface. Maybe I was being too gentle with it, it was an older model, the smaller model doesn't have that option, etc. Awesome video, thanks for going in depth on these two cases, like footprint size.
I think the MKB would be perfect for airline travel. Not so sure about the Combo Touch considering the foot print. I acquired the 11” with the MKB and have enjoyed the experience. Nice upgrade from version 1.
I contacted them about the nano texture glass and they told me it was a typo. Seems like what the answer really is depends on who you talk to over there. I don’t really see how the keys could be a problem scratching the glass personally. They sit I and indentation in the base that makes them level with the edges and the edges line up with magnets on the case portion. I guess you could squeeze it enough to make them touch as the base is pretty flexible but id be more worried about other kinds of damage before that. If I was worried about it I would just store the special cleaning cloth that the iPad comes with in between. Problem solved. I’m way more worried about long term durability of the new cases design than any damage it could do to the nano texture glass.
Enjoyed your review. Am I correct that the Magic Keyboard won’t go flat to use on a piano or music stand? Last gen didn’t. I have the new iPad with Logi Combo Touch and early results are pretty good. I needed something that I could lay flat to perform and it serves that purpose quite well. It’s a little heavier than my basic iPad case from apple and I paint with procreate while waiting for appointments. Logi is a bit cumbersome and heavy for that purpose but serves me well when I paint on a desk or table.
12:48 USB ports on Apple Magic Keyboard: side for data, but power only at the one on its hinge. 15:33 Logitech combo is a two-piece: detachable keyboard and the flat back. The two pieces are held together along the keyboard's magnetic strip. On the back of the iPad, there are those 3 little dots. I have no idea why, but they are described as "pogo". Anyway, both the Apple and Logitech match these to where the iPad rests. // Separating the keyboard from Logitech combination interrupts the connection to the pogos: No juice to keyboard, no talk between iPad and keyboard. QUESTION: In olden days, were the connectors located on the side of iPads? In what year and on which iPad model? Were they always those pogo thingies?
Thanks for the great review. After watching it I headed over to Apple to purchase the Combo Touch for my iPad Pro 13” M4 with Nano-texture glass. However, saw the following in the product information description: “This Combo Touch Keyboard Case is not designed for use with iPad Pro 13-inch (M4) with nano-texture glass.” Any idea why?
I wish they would offer the new material for older iPad Pros. Sad that new accessories aren’t working with iPads that were selling for over a grand just less than a month ago. I would buy the new material keyboard in a heartbeat.
Being able to detach the keyboard and use it with a case is a huge deciding factor for me. Combo Touch is a lot more versatile it's not even close. But I'm really curious about the haptic feedback on the Magic Keyboard
I just purchased the logi, I watch this video after I got my keyboard. I purchased this keyboard because the price. And seam better, apple always want to overcharge for the extra stuff. Thanks for the video help a lot the explanation is great 👍
The logitech is always what I get since I draw on the ipad. With the magic keyboard, I would also have to buy a stand to angle the ipad in a position suitable for drawing
Logitech works close with apple for these and they are the only company apple lets use their special mouse and keyboard software, like the little circle mouse tracker you get. So it’s not surprising if the keyboard and materials are similar.
Apples Magic Keyboard also doesn’t work if you detach the ipad from the keyboard. Would be nice if there was an accessory to provide back support for stability of the Mac Magic Keyboard because often times if I have it setting on my lap it will fall backwards if not careful.
Just returned my combo touch because it was broken (almost 2 yrs old). Would not connect any longer, probably the internal flatcable (in ‘hinge’ in keyboard part at the point where it connects to the upper part). Used it with pleasure, but I think the flatcable is THE weak point in this stand. For me enough reason not to buy it again.
I presently use the Logitech and had to replace it twice for issues with the keys but Logitech did it free of charge. Updates for the keypad are not straightforward either..🤷🏻♂
Did Logitech fix the rubber like frame from distorting/stretching if you just remove the iPad from the case a few times. I got a warranty replacement for my M1 iPad Pro, The replacement soon started warping/stretching after just a couple of removals of the iPad from the case. Otherwise I loved the large trackpad and function row keys. But of course the new Apple Magic Keyboard has a larger trackpad and a function key row. What you say about the MK fingerprints is quite true. I put a skin on my old M1 iPad, and will do so on my M4.
Jerry, I must of missed it, but did you go over if the Logitech has a more sturdy Apple Pencil holder, because it’s a full case the Apple Pencil is not compatible?
Great video Jerry! I especially loved learning about the tent mode ‘hack’ , this is perfect for lap use or when you don’t want to detach the keyboard. Also, I do have the gaps as well around the edges when pressing down on the trackpad on the Logitech. I liked your tip with enabling Tap to Click in settings to prevent junk from getting in there.
Is the Logitech Combo Touch iPad Pro 11 inch 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation model compatible with the iPad Pro 11 inch M4 processor? If you learn this, you will make me very happy.
Hey Jerry, I appreciate you taking the time to review these two boards. They all seem pretty similar to me in terms of what I'm looking for. But which one is better for traveling? For instance, if I'm planning on using it on my lap to catch up with some friends or family while I am out or type some emails, etc., would you recommend either of them? And keep making great videos, they're really appreciated.

Hi! im planning to buy this combo touch for my ipad air for $165 here in my country are yours still working? and do you recommend it over apple magic keyboard which is also on discount here and i can buy it for $222. Looking forward to your response it will be a huge help for me to decide, thank you so much!🙏
I’m really sad that Logitech is not producing the Slim Folio Pro anymore!
I used combo touch years and years ago.
The biggest issue they have has always been the weight .. the difference is crazy
By far the best, most comprehensive guide to these cases. Thanks Jerry! The MK is so expensive but definitely the one I ended up getting.
I think your video looks rather dim. Perhaps that's the wrong word, but not very saturated at least. That's not to say that the picture is not excellent but that's just my first hand impression. If that's a conscious choice i can respect that. It's probably more true to life.
I noticed that too
It’s a lack of contrast
He forgot to add back the color grading node so he is stuck with this lut

Money isn’t a problem, which one should I get for my m4 pro 11?
Your comment has helped me decide. thank you!
I used the combo touch previously but really like how the fact that it's up off the desk and the keys on the Magic keyboard was, at least compared to previous models, much better. If I'm going to use it primarily as a table for something, especially traveling or music, I just put it in a different case. Great and very thorough review!
about clicking on the logitech trackpad.... you can set in the settings that it registers a click when only touching the trackpad I remember?
You can add the backlit keyboard brightness in the control center. Works similar to the screen brightness slider once added…
I've always preferred the cases the protect the back and edges, so in this comparison I would opt for the Combo Touch.
With the Magic Keyboard you could just tilt your screen in towards you so the weight can be evenly distributed
you can adjust the backlight of the magic keyboard from the control centre
Combo touch is way better. I wish they had kept the same material instead of trying to copy Apple
I actually prefer this matherial tho
They sell the Logitech keyboard on apples website so it probably more of a collaboration between them when copying
You can actually change the backlit keyboard on the magic keyboard in control center.
Yes, was my mistake.
The combo case works fine with the nano texture glass as I am doing so to watch this video. Nice content
You can adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlighting in control center…if you add it to control center, then just press and hold on the tile.
@@Aiii83 it’s true, it was always a complaint by folks that you couldn’t adjust it on the Magic Keyboard but I’ve never needed to adjust it either.
Great comparison. I prefer the smaller and more stable footprint of the Magic Keyboard. When I am in a restaurant sitting at my favorite sushi bar, the Magic Touch foot print being smaller works better than the larger footprint of the Combo Touch.
love the video man. great comparison. i’ve loved the logitech over apple for a long time now. use it for my m4 11 inch ipad
No doubt i dont like the Magic Keyboard because of its inflexibility but you can actually include the Magic Keyboard lighting button in the control center at the top right of your iPad screen. Not sure why you mentioned you can’t do that?
10:49 You can now add key brightness control in control center on iPadOS 18, so yay
I just purchased the smaller M4 iPad Pro and plan to get a keyboard, so your overview of the two products is both timely and helpful. Thank you.
I am using the Combo Touch with the iPad Pro 11" M4 and it is great and very versatile. I just need to get used to the small keyboard layout (which wouldn't be larger on the MK).
Save your money and get a ESR keyboard case.
Just got the logi combo touch for $50 at target after some coupons and discounts, definitely worth it for the price
Hoping more colors are offered with the combo touch.
I wouldn’t bet on it.
@@JerrySchulzeat most they’d make a light grey. Don’t think we’ll see Air colors like pink.
People have stated they can charge at 15 volts and 2.6 amps, so just under 40 watts, both with the iPad Pro's Thunderbolt port or via USB-C pass-through on the keyboard.
Brightnes of backlight can be changed in the control center if you add the setting
Using a "lap desk" would be helpful for either of these for lap use.
Great Video! I wonder if the logitech trsckpad disconnects every so often? Some people have had this experience.
Excellent and thorough review. Thanks!
I enjoyed this review! Thank you very much!
New combo touch dont have lock botton anymore. Biggest downside as i use it a lot with the previous one
I wish the combo touch had a Bluetooth mode for the keyboard when removed.
YOU REVIEWED THIS SO PERFECTLY. Sorry for the all caps. It's that serious. Thanks!
Why can’t I get a Logitech for my M4 iPad Pro, not available guess I’ll get the ESR!
Thank you for this video. It was very informative.
Very good review. I need the case protection of the Combo Touch but I hope the footprint won’t be an issue.
You can 100% change the keyboard brightness in control center on the magic keyboard.
My bad thanks.
Great video!!!! Do you have to charge the Logitech keyboard separately?
You answered the questoin at the end. Thanks.
Good video. But the focus was pretty much off in the whole video on devices.
I have a diffuser in the lenses so do you think it sharpness issue or focus?
What about long term use logitech combo touch? Will the rubber stretch like the previous version?
I like the kick stand on the combo touch, but I wouldn’t get another one after my current one has had issues with the silicone degrading.
Is the video recorded on log? 🤔 and u forgot to color grade? Or just new lights 😂?
Enjoyed your review. Am I correct that the Magic Keyboard won’t go flat to use on a piano or music stand? Last gen didn’t. I have the new iPad with Logi Combo Touch and early results are pretty good. I needed something that I could lay flat to perform and it serves that purpose quite well. It’s a little heavier than my basic iPad case from apple and I paint with procreate while waiting for appointments. Logi is a bit cumbersome and heavy for that purpose but serves me well when I paint on a desk or table.
Yep that is correct. Seems the logi is best for you. Thanks for watching.
Yep, I talk about this in the video during the questions segment.
Sorry, I missed it. Thanks so much.
Will new combo touch support old ipad?
I wish they would offer the new material for older iPad Pros. Sad that new accessories aren’t working with iPads that were selling for over a grand just less than a month ago. I would buy the new material keyboard in a heartbeat.
I have heard reports of the keys on the logitech failing - usually the spacebar. Anyone else have experience with this?
My wife had the E key fall off on an older version.
Being able to detach the keyboard and use it with a case is a huge deciding factor for me. Combo Touch is a lot more versatile it's not even close. But I'm really curious about the haptic feedback on the Magic Keyboard
Awesome one. Combo touch gives you the bests: cheaper, better experience and protective
I need them to release the Combo Touch with a Spanish layout 😢
I’ll probably have to invest in an actual protective case if I’m buying the Magic Keyboard
Logitech works close with apple for these and they are the only company apple lets use their special mouse and keyboard software, like the little circle mouse tracker you get. So it’s not surprising if the keyboard and materials are similar.
I’d like the Logitech one better if it had something like a latch to hold the pencil
Apples Magic Keyboard also doesn’t work if you detach the ipad from the keyboard. Would be nice if there was an accessory to provide back support for stability of the Mac Magic Keyboard because often times if I have it setting on my lap it will fall backwards if not careful.
Great video but whack up the exposure & contrast brother
✍️
Just returned my combo touch because it was broken (almost 2 yrs old). Would not connect any longer, probably the internal flatcable (in ‘hinge’ in keyboard part at the point where it connects to the upper part). Used it with pleasure, but I think the flatcable is THE weak point in this stand. For me enough reason not to buy it again.
What brand of protector for the Ipad (13) would you recommmend using with the Magic keyboard?? Great review by the way!👍🏻
I presently use the Logitech and had to replace it twice for issues with the keys but Logitech did it free of charge.
The case does not cover were the Apple Pencil magnetically attached to the iPad.
i cant find any place near me with the combo touch and every website i look at is unable to deliver it to my location
Perfect review with no BS. Thanks
I like the Magic Keyboard better for lap and most situation because I use it like a laptop.
@@JerrySchulze thanks!
