Thank you for doing the test with the USB connection. I don't have XLR stuff, and I was so confused as to why I was so quiet when the microphone was claiming to be near clipping. When I saw your USB setting for the microphone, I set mine to the same and it sounds so much better now.
Just got this mic as a gift. Was using a turtle beach usb mic and when I listened to my vod on YT from this past weekend, there was a huge difference between that stream and my previous streams. I sound 1000% better.
I bought one of these for a recording project thinking that it would be forgiving to people with loud harsh voices. It is touted to do that. Absolute bullshit. This is no SM7b. Her vocal was spitting razor blades at me. It’s probably wonderful for podcasts and some limited musical instruments.
the fact that its a usb and xlr hybrid was what made me purchase it. I don't yet have the money to invest in an audio interface, but also not money for buying another microphone once i do get an audio interface. With this, i can just use the usb output until i get an audio interface. so nice!
FYI, you can put a Shure SM7B foam screen on a Shure MV7 microphone, and it makes the MV7 much better. If the MV7 had USBC instead of microUSB connection, I'd love it. Instead, my main mic is the SM7B with the Elgato Wave XLR. It gives the SM7B modern perks.
I've been using a Blue Snowball Ice since I started working from home last spring. Having a workspace with a 3rd grader just outside the usually open door has made it abundantly clear that I need a better mic. This looks like a winner for cutting out background noise and having a much better audio quality than the Snowball or my webcam can provide. Great review, thanks for putting it together and showing the USB/XLR difference.
I like the NO HISS. When you stop talking, it sounds like the video is over. I like that sound. Very clean. Crisp. I listened to this video and ordered the MV7 on eBay just now. LOL! A little over $200 and ordered a new boom versus the one I have. Thanks for this video. Induced me to pull the trigger on the deal. It'll be here around September 2, 2023. Feel free to listen to my current livestreams that I've done for the past year and then after I run the MV7, I'll hear the difference.
which is great for people who don't have a DAW or a interface. Using the XLR connection will sound better than the USB going into a DAW like Cubase, which is what I use. I have a Phonic Summit 16 channel mixer which is what I plug my mic into which is my interface for Cubase. I add processing like noise gate (which will cut out typing noise or desk noise). I also use the Slate Digital everything bundle along with Izotope to make the mic sound amazing. Then instead of running the 2 XLR cables to my studio monitors I route those into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which is my stream Labs interface. I've been using a Shure beta 87a for my streaming mic but this mic is not made for spoken dialogue. So I ordered the Shure MV7 and should be on my door step today. Shure really stepped their game up on this one making it possible for someone who has no audio interface at all to go USB in and sound great. I commend Shure for making this product. Can't wait to hook it up.
I have had this mic for about 30 days, I have the usb and the xlr with a GOXLR mini. I love this thing. I also have a blue yeti that is now safely in my drawer. Shure has done an amazing job on this mic. Worth every dollar.
Hi Don, I just picked up the mv7 less than 30 days ago, and plan to use with my podtrak p4 which acts like an interface with xlr ports. It only has gain dials. I'm curious if you have both the USB and xlr connect while using your GOXLR mini and can use the app to dial in the mic settings. Appreciate any feedback you could provide. Thanks!
@@adadsthing650 That’s a great question, I did have the XLR hooked into a go XLR mini and the USB plugged in as well. The USB portion Diles the microphone in pretty good, but the go Alex or mini does a better job so I tend to use that. After a while I would head and unplug the USB just because sometimes it changed to use the USB instead of the co-LX are mini. I had both dialed in and they work really well. This Mike is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. So the answer is yes I use both from time to time but mostly The go LXR mini. It’s software does compression and all that other stuff that I want done.
Much appreciated Don! I just checked out what your XLR mini is, and I can see how just dialing that in with the mv7 will get great sound. I'm a newbie in a sence, but will do some testing to see if I can tune in on the app and still record on my podtrak. It sound like I may, but will be going through USB instead of xlr. I’ve used this mic now for about 2 years to record vocals snare drums high hats toms ride and crash cymbals guitar amps and acoustic guitar . I use it xlr thru my interface . My only complaint about the mic is in usb mode the head phone audio out isn’t loud enough . Other than that it’s 10 out of 10

It has an internal shock mount. You dont need to buy and external one. The sound of you knocking, was just the sound of knocking. I wasnt vibration shock.
Am I the only one who prefers the sound through USB? Maybe it's the mixer settings, but XLR sounds far more compressed and bright and peaks more than USB with and without post processing
Thank you for the review. How good is the Micro USB connection. I have one device where it loosened up over time and now is not holding solidly into the slot. One review that I saw indicated the acoustic foam of the MV7 is very thin at the front of the mic and causes a problem with plosives. It’s only $150 at guitar center right now as well as a few other places. I had to pull the trigger for that price. It’s perfect cuz I have a small desk and when my buddies aren’t over I don’t need to have the rodecaster set up. Just plug in usb
Rode procaster was a ''MID'' tier mic for years tho... and the Podmic too since 2018 XLR Dynamic for $100, this is not the one to create the ''mid tier'' but might be the best one.

This video was very helpful, thank you ! I am still undecided if to go the XLR route and getting the rodecaster as well. You mentioned the quality of XLR is top notch over USB until this mic came out, would you say it's still better to use XLR than the MV7 USB and its software? My podcast occasionally has some in person guests if that makes any difference.
How does Shure's software compare to the basic Voicemeeter software? I'm using a Blue Yeti Satin Red through Nvidia Broadcast and Voicemeeter and I love the sound.
Hi, thanks for your video! Is it important to open the shureplus software every time I use the mic? Or once the setup is been done, I can keep it closed.
Hey, Andrew. Thanks for the video. I am considering either the Blue Yeti or Shure MV& for MS Teams and Zoom calls and wondering if you can clarify something for me. Both mics have the monitoring headphone jack, but without ever having owned a mic like these, I am wondering if I plug my headphones into the jack on the mic, will I hear both myself and the computer's audio (Windows 10) or would I have to either (a) change the computer's audio out source to be the MV7 or (b) should I just be plugging in the headphones into the laptop's headphone jack. Thanks!

Fantastic Review! By the way are u also using a green screen and what video recording or streaming app did u use for this video ?
great review!!
just got mine brand new from amzon shure for 110$ on prime day, it is just unreal.
Is it just me, I like the sound without the processing. It sounds more podcast like without the processing.
If you compare the MV7 in USB to a Blue Yeti X for podcasting, which would be best? I like the visual audio level on the front of the Yeti X
Can you share your OBS filter setting you used for this microphone. I just bought one but always struggle to find what I like in OBS
its insane that they sell the sm7b (arguably one of the best) and this is cheaper and sounds the same using the software
Thanks!
Mate. How about MV7 vs Rode NT 1? I am torn between these two.
I am thinking to buy Shure MV7 or IK Multimedia iRig Mic HD 2 for my Rockschool Vocal exam. I would like to use iphone to record my exam for submission. I am totally is video recording beginner , I would like to seek you advice. Thanks.
