This is the best comparison I've ever seen (or heard) for a microphone !!! "With the fan on" should be a default for any comparison on youtube from now on :p Thank you very much :)
This was an awesome comparison. I am also looking at the different mics (wave 3, MV7, MV7+) and this was really helpful in helping me make my decision!
Love this! The mic sounds great too! I always get worried that usb mics might have a weird dip in the audio quality randomly but that doesn’t seem to be the case with this mic. Great video
I am now obsessed with getting the MV7+...my Rode podmic is lovely but this?! I feel like it’s a piece of art I must have lol. I did just buy the Rode but based on a convo with another pod friend, I’m going to buy the Shure to celebrate my 25th episode (I’m at 5 on my 2nd show). Motivation. LOVE IT.
Wow, the difference is obvious. A great sounding mic. I have been using a RODE Podmic forever. The de-noiser is really incredible. Great comparison Cat.
Merci pour cette nouvelle vidéo très instructive 🙂 ... j'utilise le MV7 depuis plusieurs années et la différence de son avec le MV7+ est juste dingue ... un nouvel achat en vue 😅
Thank you, Caitlyn. I think your presentation was fantastic. You are a wonderful teacher, and I’m really interested in learning more about the courses you offer online. I’m planning to purchase the Shure MV7+ microphone you recommended, but I already have a Rodecaster Duo, which, the audio interface, I was wondering if I could use both the Rodecaster Duo and the Shure MV7+, or if purchasing the MV7+ would make the Rodecaster Duo unnecessary. I noticed in your studio pictures that you used to have a Rodecaster Duo, but in more recent ones, it’s not there anymore. In one photo, you had the Rodecaster Duo, but in a later one, it was replaced with smaller devices, which I’m interested in learning more about. Sometimes, when I’m using Ecamm and switch between screens, I have to use the mouse, and the mouse clicks are very loud through the microphone. So, I was wondering if the Shure MV7+ could help cancel out the mouse clicking, or if there’s a small device (like the ones you use) that allows me to press a button instead of using the mouse. I’d love to watch the video where you explain how to use that device. I’m just forgetting the name right now. Could you provide the correct name of the device that replaces the mouse? Again, terrific work. Thank you!
You can use the MV7+ with the RØDECaster Duo using the XLR connection. The difference is that the USB connection has the digital processing, like the real-time denoiser. For example, the MV7+ through XLR kept the fan noise but the USB didn't. I had the RØDECaster Pro (4 inputs), then switched to the Streamer X (1 mic input & 1 camera input). Re: mouse clicks, I do find the Stream Deck is a quieter option, although it depends on how you press them and how sensitive your mic is. The Stream Deck comes in many options, including a mobile app option that you can try for free first: ua-cam.com/video/f-8oLytC918/v-deo.html
Oh, I get really distracted when videos have the mics sensitive enough to pick up lip smack (*shiver*) and other mouth sounds (*double shiver*). Related to your conference experience: do you have a recommended solution for an in-ear monitor (or alternative solutions)?
I didn't check out in-ear monitors at NAB but I've been using the MEE clear in-ear monitors for a long time and don't have any complaints. I mean, I wouldn't want to wear them ALL day.
Thanks for doing all those comparisons. I like the concept of the MV7+, particularly if one is traveling. But of all the tests, the one that sounded the best to me was the Wave - when it was close. You have a bright voice and the Wave, up close, softened it beautifully. Would your results be different if you had the MV7+ closer? My best mic is an SM7B and the results are significantly different if I have it close versus a foot away.
Hi Cat, I discovered your channel just today and I am enjoying your content. I really like the way you did the teleprompter video. I have a question. Is your back ground a green screen or is it what you have.
Great video as usual Cat! A couple of questions/comments. I know you cannot test all possible use cases but it would have been a more fair comparison if you also showed the Elgato Wavelink software for the Wave3 microphone and its noise removal feature. Also, do you have access to the denoise feature if you connect the Shure MV7+ using the XLR connection or does it only work over USB?
The use of the Wave 3 was to include a USB Condenser Mic. From what I understand, the Wavelink software can be used with any mic, so that can be an option for noise removal in general, not just Elgato mics. I haven't tried that feature, so I didn't include it.
Nice. I just was doing a little research around their denoiser and don't see anything about dogs barking or those types of sounds. Any idea if the built-in effects handle that? Zoom has gotten so good at filtering my dogs or coughing in the last couple years, I basically never worry about it. But when I'm forced to use Teams or Webex, they still lag behind. It'd be nice to have a local hardware option if this does it.
I had actually meant to say something in the video about web conferencing. Most are pretty good at using voice isolation. I haven't tested the mic with barking or other noises, but my understanding is that sudden, loud noises will still get through.
Hi Cat! Curious if you also use a shotgun mic so you can have it out of frame ? I’m using the Elgato Wave 3 which I really like but I’m wanting to shoot videos with no mic in frame :)
I have this mic and after watching realized I never tried the Motiv Mix software! Thank you for this video; I now learned that the settings save inside the mic. That is great news. One question: I see that in addition to software called Motiv Mix (and it says beta), I have another program called Shure Plus MOTIV. Can you tell me which you are using or recommend one over the other?
My understanding is that Motiv Mix is the new one that's needed for the MV7+, but I could be incorrect. I honestly haven't opened MOTIV in a long time!
This is just really freaky. I was literally about to ask you what mic you employed in your vids since you really have a nice sound. But now I see that you switched to another mic! Too funny! It is reassuring to know though that you are basically using the same model but just a newer generation. Assuming the denoiser only works in USB mode? Either way,...it's a nice mic. I only wish that they did add that LED light feature as it "cheapens" it a bit in my opinion. Again,..that's just my opinion and I guess one can simply leave it off. Does the MOTIV software also include an EQ option? I still love my RE27 Dynamic Mic but was kind of wanting an extra USB option for quick online interviews. MV7+ might be right for that. Thanks for this upload!
You are right, the denoiser is a USB feature, which is why the test with XLR didn't block out the fan. I don't see any EQ options in the Motive Mix software, even when I add the source as an input to the Mixer. It is in Beta right now, so not sure what might change in the future. For the LED, you can set it to solid > black, which will make it invisible. You can also turn it away from the camera.
I got some additional info from Shure about the EQ question. While not specifically labelled as EQ, the Tone option is adjusting the high frequencies (Bright increases them, while Dark decreases them). The Hi-Pass filter is a cutting feature that removes frequencies in the bottom 75Hz or 150Hz to clean up the bass frequencies below the human voice.
The real noticeable thing is the type C which can be hooked up to any type C device. And that is great for on the go podcast. You can use this as a news reporter with your smartphone Camara and this mic seems like the best of both worlds. And type C it a bit more durable than mico in some cases. And more bandwidth.
I appreciate you following up about your comment. UA-cam has plenty of creators and I won’t be for everyone. I try to always add chapters so people can jump to the part of the video they want.

WOW! so helpful, just ordered the podcast kits
The XLR connection with no processing sounds really good! On my studio monitors, the sound is the most direct, crisp and clear.
This was an awesome comparison. I am also looking at the different mics (wave 3, MV7, MV7+) and this was really helpful in helping me make my decision!
I came back to this video again as I am still looking to buy and this is probably one of the best comparison videos out there!
Upgraded to the blue yeti to the shure mv7+. Coming on Wednesday. Im excited 😭
Great review for this mic! I just bought one for my channel, thanks!
This was helpful! Loved the examples right up against each other so we could hear the difference.
I am so excited for mine to come! Bought it for the digital denoiser ❤️
🙌🏻
How has it been
@@Z3Chosen1 I am loving it so far. I was using a Hyperx Quadcast mic and my friends could tell the difference.
Love this! The mic sounds great too! I always get worried that usb mics might have a weird dip in the audio quality randomly but that doesn’t seem to be the case with this mic. Great video
The options for USB mics just keep getting better and better!

Cat, I Love you... You are my reference now to ALL my "things"... tech.🥰
Wow, thank you!
Sir, how can I turn off, if the red light comes out is it turned off?

Thanks for video 🙏 I am a musician
Can I play piano or guitar and singing?
and then switch to podcast?
Hi Cat, I discovered your channel just today and I am enjoying your content. I really like the way you did the teleprompter video. I have a question. Is your back ground a green screen or is it what you have.
That's a real background! It's my office/guest bedroom 😂
