    Feedback from Shure: “Nothing was changed from MV7 to MV7+ XLR circuitry”.
    Shure is researching delta between XLR and USB performance. I will make update video and provide info in this pinned comment as new information is available.

    Excellent review, as always. If I were to buy now, I might opt for this new one. But as the owner of the first MV7, I think there is no reason to exchange.
    For me, one of the most interesting points in the comparisons between the podcast models presented was: we know that choosing a microphone today takes into account several factors, including the status that a brand can bring in the case of use in videos/podcasts. But when listening to the tests here on the Sennheiser HD 560s headphones (which are an excellent headphone for analysis as they show the slightest variations in audio very well) it must be said that the Fifine K688 is unbelievable for the price.

    Love the insightful review as always - and appreciate you going the extra mile! I snagged this mic after using the original MV7 for the last couple years, and I absolutely love the way it sounds. Interestingly, I found that the auto gain significantly hurts the audio quality - it made the audio sound weak. When I toggled that off, the sound improved drastically. Just a word to the wise for anyone considering buying the MV7+

    I hear it. I also listened to several people's reviews after this one, as well as a podcast where a host uses this mic. There is a static noise present in every one of them. Almost sounds like a ground isolation issue. Very interesting piece of tech. The denoiser does a really great job, and I love how it stores settings inside of the microphone itself.

    • @lizardpeter
      @lizardpeter 7 місяців тому

      They're good but overhyped, relying on designs from half a century ago without much innovation. I have the SM7B. It sounds great but is unusable, in my opinion, due to the massively high required gain. It brings the noise floor well into the audible range. Their "solution," instead of engineering a new microphone, was to release the SM7dB which is basically just a Cloudlifter. It doesn't actually change the noise floor at all.

    • @volvvix
      @volvvix 7 місяців тому

      @lizardpeter 7 місяців тому

      @@volvvix I'm going to try out the NT1 5th Gen. I've seen a lot of great things. High sensitivity and one of the lowest self noise figures on the market. I love the SM7B sound but for my application the high noise floor makes it unusable after adding all the required gain.

    • @volvvix
      @volvvix 7 місяців тому

      @lizardpeter yea everyone has their own needs for equipment don't even feel pressure to buy a product, do the research and find the right fit I happen to use the sm7db because I'm familiar with its sound and I think it's one of the most reliable microphones I own but the 240 from lewitt is also a microphone I rely on

    • @lizardpeter
      @lizardpeter 7 місяців тому

      @@volvvix Yeah, I just took a look at that one from Lewitt and unfortunately I don’t think it will work for me as it has lower sensitivity and much higher self noise than the NT1, so it would probably perform similarly in terms of noise to the SM7B I already have, but thanks for the recommendation!

      The K688 is pretty good for the price. "Only" 16 bit 48kHz and the zero latency monitoring is a bit quiet. It also needs a pop filter intended for an SM7B, otherways there's barely any space between the pop filter and the capsule.

    This is a bummer. As a professional podcaster with MV7s in the arsenal, I've had to have them replaced multiple times by Shure due to the mini-USB port breaking. My hosts travel with the mics often, which creates more wear and tear. Because of that, I was excited to hear Shure had replaced that with a USB-C port, which I assumed would be sturdier. Apparently, it's still pretty flimsy, and the review makes it sound like we'd be giving up some audio quality in the process. Dammit! But a million thanks for the amazing work you do on these reviews!

      Ha ha, sorry for the mistake, my selected mic. is not the MV7+, but the SM7db, the new versión of de SM7b. With your video, you convinced me to change to this icon of the sound, but improved.
      For podcasts I'll have later the RODE Podmic.
      Thanks for your answer and excelente videos

    I just wanted to tell you how incredibly valuable your videos are. You've already saved me a lot of money with what I consider to be the best and most honest tests. But you also cost me a lot of money because of the "want-to-have" effect. 😆 But not the MV7.
    Greetings from Germany

    I do definitely see the use for this microphone, but the usb output sounds waaaay off. Also, it's not very versatile. And why is it so resonant? I'd just go with the original one

    Fantastic review. The star of this was the Earthworks mic which sounded great. Then the Fifine sounded good for the koney. The big comparison is to the Rode Podemic USB which sounded okay but i could hear alot of emphasis on the esses.

    Fantastic review and great channel, may I ask you a suggest? As far as I understand from your review (I’m italian so english isnt my main tongue) you are saying that contrary with the original Mv7, this new Mv7+ sounds better on xlr and worse on usb, so my question is; on usb do they sound different? Because i was planning to buy the Mv7 but since this new came out for basically the same price, I was thinking to buy the plus instead, but I want to be sure that it dsnt sound worse, would be dumb for me to buy a worse version for my usage. Thanks and again, very great channel!!!

    Hello Bandrew! Hope you're doing well. I'd like to ask you something regarding the upgrade of audio gears.
    I've been using the Maono-USB Microphone for around 5 years and have been looking forward to upgrade to the "Rode NT1 Signature Series" for my home studio solo vocal recordings. But I'm confused about the type of interface I should gear into. I'm on the hunt for a budget-friendly audio interface that offers low background noise while complementing the capabilities of the NT1.
    Which one would you recommend buying- Universal Audio Volt 1, Behringer Um2, Rode Ai1, Focusrite Scarlett 4th gen, or Steinberg UR12?
    I'm going to be using it with my PC, so which one among these would you recommend buying?
    THANK YOU

    From what i've been told auto level is the default when using usb. When switching to manual the sound quality is way better. Could this be the issue people are having with the usb vs xlr?

    Hey Bandrew, I know this is months behind. I'm considering the MV7+. If I'm running this through OBS couldn;t I just add an EQ filter there to fix up the voice a bit or is this a no-go all around?

  • @johnheiser2604

    I'd grab a cheap windscreen, SM58 type and cut it very close to where the rounded end becomes uniform. Stuff that up the windscreen to leave just a little airbreak. Dual filter. That should help.

    Can you make a test or comparison video with us Windows users in mind, i.e. show where and how much you adjust those "gain, post poost, etc." settings? In your videos, it's hard to distinguish 100 or 400 euro microphones from each other. They sound so similar. When I look at the Levels tab in my Windows, there are two items volume and power increase. I've had to "shout" at the USB microphones I've tried, and if you raise the controls to their pins again, the microphone makes a lot of noise when you don't talk to it.

    Wait a second... are you saying that the DSP settings that get saved on the mic (lets say reverb) using the USB connection... later will not be present if the mic gets connect to a computer via a audio interface and the XLR connection? That makes no sense to me. Or did you mean USB will be later needed IF FURTHER tweaking is desired?

      None of the fancy stuff works via XLR. It just becomes a normal, anolog microphone via XLR.
      If you plan to connect the MV7+ via XLR, you may as well save some money and get the MV7x instead.

    Hi! What were your settings when you did the vocal/music test? I noticed that when i sing an extended note (on manual, limiter off or on), the gain auto decreases and my vocals sound distorted at the latter part. Hoping its just a setting thing and not a problem with the mic.

    • @KathleenFrancisco
      @KathleenFrancisco 5 місяців тому

      Okay so i tested it again, and found that it was the de-noiser making it happen. Yours was off when you did the music test, i assume?

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  5 місяців тому +1

      @@KathleenFrancisco That’s correct. I had all processing shut off during the music test because when recording music, I think it’s best to have the signal raw and then add your post processing once it’s in the mix. Especially when it comes to more destructive processing like Denoise. I would also ensure auto gain is not engaged and just set your level properly, that way you have a consistent gain setting for recording.

    Does the USB C connection matter? Because not all USB C ports are equal. Perhaps it could be tried on multiple devices.
