Interesting Fact: She is the one that's dead not the guy in the video, if you notice in the video she never touches the ground. So she's a spirit, and everything she's singing is how he's feeling.
No she is. Aside from not touching the ground, she also has bandages(like traditional funeral bandaging) and at the end theres a fly on her hand which indicates decay/a dead body. She could still be the angel but she's definitely being portrayed as the deceased one that lingers around and cant seem to leave or find their peace
yes and I see that.........but the guy in the video (Ben Moody) when he sits at the piano is barefooted. Suit & tie barefooted like he had just got out of his coffin. There is also a scene where he looks up at the lighted sky and one of the buildings is curves. That seems to be "Light at the end of the tunnel" but he ignores it and walks away from it. Cause he can't leave her. So what i'm getting out of it ( i could be wrong ) but they are both ghost. She is haunting him and He is haunting her. Both gone but don't realize the other is as well.
The woman singing this song is Amy Lee and she is an amazing vocalist and pianist! She co-wrote this song with 2 of the other band members of Evanescence at the time. The band members have changed quite a bit over the years and I believe that Amy Lee is the only original member left. To get a better idea of their range of music styles, here are a couple of other songs of theirs to check out: Lithium Call Me When You're Sober My Heart Is Broken Bring Me To Life And some more recent songs/videos: Imperfection Hi-Lo (featuring the violinist Lindsey Stirling) The Chain Wasted On You The Game Is Over
Actually a man named Ben Moody wrote the song. She tweaked it a bit. Not trying to take anything away from the song. It’s one of my favourites of all time.
The video was uploaded to UA-cam 10 years ago, but the song is actually from 2003. :) I'd love to see more Evanescence reaction from you guys! They have so many incredible songs: Lithium, My Heart is Broken, Call me when you're sober, Wasted on you, Lacrymosa (my personal favorite - there's an incredible live version with an entire orchestra from their Synthesis Live DVD that blows my mind every single time).
This never gets old.. This song live to its name "immortal". Evanescence still making great music... Please react to her song "Speak to Me". Its about a Mother's love that even Death can't destroy. A mother who love his son so much that's she is watching him from the other side.❤️❤️❤️ So deep.
That song and video makes me cry!! I also saw the movie it was on the soundtrack, Voice From The Stone, which was also emotional and haunting. In the video that Amy Lee does when she is wearing blue she is longing or a "ghost" watching an alive Amy with a little boy which is pretty much the movie but you don't see the mother who died. Both amazing.
According to my husband (completely obsessed with her and always tries to meet her as much as he can):: She’s singing to her sister. The relationship didn’t die. Her little sister Bonnie did.
thats exactly it. she has another song that she wrote for her sister called "like you". she says "i long to be like you, sis, lie cold in the ground like you did."
Amy didn’t write My Immortal, Ben did for a manga (or anime?) he was writing. She did write the bridge, but the original is available online (I think it’s called Legendado (piano-vocal) version,) it’s from 1995. However; Hello, Like You, Far From Heaven, Swimming Home, and Secret Door were written for her sister, I believe.
The blonde guy ya'll were asking about, that's Ben Moody, one of the founders of Evanescence. He and Amy met at church camp. They actually dated for a little while, but I don't know how or why it ended. She's married now with a son and seems really happy.
The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one. Similar to several other songs written by Moody, the lyrics of the song are based on a short story he had previously written. According to Lee, it was "Ben [Moody]'s song." Moody said that the song talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." He also stated in the booklet of Fallen that he dedicated the song to his grandfather, Bill Holcomb. In "My Immortal", Lee expresses her feelings through the line, "Though you're still with me / I've been alone all along." A writer for IGN said that "'My Immortal' is a song of pain and despair caused by the loss of a family member or very close friend and how it drove her [Lee] to the edge of insanity." Please checkout “tourniquet” by Evanescence.
Amy Lee actually wrote this song for her late sister, who passed away when they were young. Amy is actually the one playing the piano as well. I highly recommend reacting to Seether "Broken" followed by Evanescence "Call Me When You're Sober". She use to date the lead singer of Seether and her song was her message to him after they broke up.
The song is from the perspective of the guy on the piano, thinking about his dead girlfriend. Amy Lee (the girl singing) is the ghost of the dead girl.
In the video she is the immortal. She is not alive as signified by she never touches the ground in the video. The guy she left behind is missing her and looking for her as you see him glancing up through out the video as he is walking. He is basically grieving her loss.
The Chorus- When you cried, I wiped away all of your tears (Rev 21:4) When you screamed, I fight away all of you fears (Psalm 34:4) I held your hand through all of these years (Isaiah 41:13) You still have all me (Psalm 16:5)
I think in this video she's passed away and looking down on him. The words she's singing are the man's thoughts. He's walking around the city and can't stop thinking about her the love of his life.
Yes, this one of those songs that reaches right into your soul. Especially after watching the video, I believe she died by suicide (alluded to by the wrappings on her wrists). She is a spirit caught in limbo, unable to leave this world behind, but she is singing what he is thinking. Amy Lee's voice is perfect for this song! (and just about any other song I've heard her sing!)
That's also why you see her lying atop the dented car. (google Evelyn McHale and you will get the call-out there.) and why he was looking up at the rooftops. he did not love her back properly, she jumped, he did not see it coming, and now he cant take it back.
This song was written by the man you see wandering throughout the video. (Ben Moody) It is not a love song, but a song about the loss of his grandfather. Hence why the song is so sad. It gives the words a much deeper meaning and feel when you know the story. Legit reaction, I enjoyed it.
Beautiful song. I love Evanescence, Amy Lee has a great powerful voice. Take a look to Lithium, Bring me to Life. And End of the dream Synthesis live version. All of them by Evanescence 😝
It’s so interesting because I never thought of this as a breakup song, but losing someone you love to death. Which so wrote this song about her about losing a loved one. It wasn’t until recently that I started seeing reactions to it that the thought of it being a breakup song crossed my mind. So cool how different perspectives influences how we interpret things
I believe the song is actually about an individual passing away and she is left with all the memories they shared together. The lyrics "but though you're still with me (in spirit). I've been alone... alone" reflects that.
According to the wiki: The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one.[2] Similar to several other songs written by Moody, the lyrics of the song are based on a short story he had previously written.[1] According to Lee, it was "Ben [Moody]'s song."[17] Moody said that the song talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone."[1] He also stated in the booklet of Fallen that he dedicated the song to his grandfather, Bill Holcomb.[1] In "My Immortal", Lee expresses her feelings through the line, "Though you're still with me / I've been alone all along."[18] A writer for IGN said that "'My Immortal' is a song of pain and despair caused by the loss of a family member or very close friend and how it drove her [Lee] to the edge of insanity."
This song is written about Amy Lee's sister who died. In the video she is an angel, she never touches the ground. This song gives me chills every single time I hear it.
No its not. It's written by Ben Moody relating to the passing of his grandfather. It's about a spirit that stays with you even when you want it to leave. Amy wrote a couple of songs about her sister the main one being Hello which apart from a little family clip on YT she has never performed live.
Ben Moody gets credit for writing the song and Amy credits for executing it with her angelic voice, this song dedicated to Ben’s grandfather. I think he wanted her to sing it because he couldnt express his feelings the way she is in this song.
You ladies are beautiful too. I think this song may have been about one of the band members leaving the group. The lead guitarist left shortly after this. So it may have been related.
As a couple of others have pointed out, the story being told is one of bereavement, not breakup. Amy in the video is a ghost, and the guy is mourning/missing her. She is dressed all in white and never once sets foot on the ground. However, the song came out was when I was in my teens and it quickly became a breakup anthem particularly for girls. And it is usually the first impression that people get from it.
This song comes from two sources. You pretty much hit Amy's take on it, but the way "the guy" in the story wrote it, he was thinking of his grandfather who'd just passed away. If you watch it again you'll notice Amy's feet never touch the ground, and she's dressed in white. . . ;o)
He wrote a poem from what was said in interviews. Amy took it and decided to do on the piano and sing it slowly. She also wrote the bridge. The bridge is very good in this song. Amy always been very good with bridges. Breaking up the song like in My Immoral with one. Of course her vocals made the song special. It probably would have gotten lost like a drop on water in the ocean without her singing it. If you want sad songs. Hello, Like You and Even in Death are three. But then again Amy does a ton of sad ones those 3 stand out because of the vocals.
from what I have heard. The guy in the video wrote this song about his grandfather who had passed. Her voice was perfect to express the emotion he felt at his grandfathers passing. And yes she is representing an angel which is why her feet never touch the ground. www.songfacts.com/facts/evanescence/my-immortal Nope I was wrong.
this is perfection... the song... the voice... the video... and Amy is gorgeous! She's ridiculously underrated! But this song is one of the greatest ever of its kind. She actually killed herself this is why she has bandages around her wrists, shes a ghost. This is also why her feet never touch the ground and the kids in the playground don't see her. Its also why she's in white and why she appears in different random places..she's a spirit.
If I’m not mistaken, this was written by and about the guy you see in the video here and there, (he’s the co founder of the band) his experience after his grandfather passed?
HERE IS SOME FUN FACTS AND INFO: 1. The song was written by the guy that's walking around in the video named Ben Moody and he wrote this song on piano (with Amy??) about his grandfather. 2. Evanescence is basically - Amy Lee & Ben Moody plus whatever players they hired. Always was but it's now down to just Amy as the only original member of the group as Ben left in 2003. 3. Amy Lee & Ben Moody meet in school and then started dating soon after. 4. This is NOT a love song, it is a song about someone losing someone they love and the spirit of the person that left still hangs around after passing and the person still alive can sense their presence all the time. So this song can relate to any and every situation and that's why (but not the ONLY reasons why.....) this song is great and why it's just one of the MANY many reasons this is a GREAT amazing song to listen and even play and cover [if you can, singers, lol]) too!!!?!?!?!?! 5. This is the "Video" or the "Rock Edit" of the original that is on the album. The original track doesn't have the band come in at all. There still is a GREAT MOMENT in the song where in this the band comes in, but it keeps the whole song in the same fell and is also AMAZING!! There are others and I may come back and EDIT them in......
I’d love to see you guys react to the story of the video and song. Ben Moody is the guy in the video, he wrote this song for a manga(/anime?) he was writing. He and Amy co-founded Evanescence. The video is set in a world where they were two lovers and the female (Amy) has passed away, hence she never touches the ground. Ben searches the city trying to find her spirit and face all the memories of them together, but just gets more and more broken with every piece he sees. My theory is that she died of suicide hence “these wounds won’t seem to heal,” but it could also indicate murder, or maybe even just the fact that she’s breaking his heart in not being alive. Either way, watching the video with this perspective sure makes it so much more sad. Thanks for posting!
It was 2003 when this song was out the song is about lost the guy in the video is grieving over the lost of his girlfriend amy lee plays the girlfriend
Lithium or Hello by Evanescence which is another great song. Amy wrote the song describing how she felt when her little sister passed. It’s worth a listen. Great reaction.
Hi ladies. There is a reason why in the video you see children playing and Amy never actually steps on the ground and the final shot of Amy in a climbing tree. Can you imagine being 6 and your parents out of the blue show up and pull you out of school and tell you your 3 yeard old sister that you absolutely adored had died from from a sudden illness? That's what inspred her to co-write this song.
She's not singing about her lover. Although this can and is thought of as a break-up song, she's actually singing about her little sister that died when she has younger. That's why there are kids in the video in the background. I would love it if you'd react to Evanescence - Breathe No More (Live) link: ua-cam.com/video/6O1pojrbip4/v-deo.html and Evanescence - Lithium link: ua-cam.com/video/PJGpsL_XYQI/v-deo.html Thanks!
I know she had a sister who passed away when they were both children. At least one of the songs (Hello) on this album are about that. I'm not sure if this is as well.
The video is so good. You might not have noticed that she's playing an angel. Never touches the ground, no one notices her, dressed in white... it's a very clever video and so subtle. I don't know how accurate it is but I was told she was thinking about her sister who passed when she was young. So, I suppose, she was representing her sibling by becoming the angel.
Its not he who is dead. Its her. In the video you never see her touch the ground with her feet as shes supposed to be a ghost. She sings like its the other way around, but actually its him whos still alive and wandering around missing her.
meg rhmega that thought came across my mind but i didnt have the time to really think about it. Theres a few ways you can look at it. Maybe it's meant so you can take from it what you like. Either way Id give my first born to have her to sing me to sleep at night.
My heart is broken would be my next suggestion. And also lithium, game is over, going under, call me when you’re sober. There are too many good ones! Lol
The video shows she is dead. She’s like a spirit, and she’s always above ground. Notice the guy is looking up, like he’s looking in the heavens for her. They were in love and now she’s dead, and he misses her, and she misses him.
This song is about a losing a loved one through death and wanting to move on with your life but not being able to let go. Just to clarify for you and make the song make more sense. It especially resonates with the lead singer amy lee as her little sister passed away when she was only 3 years old. Great reaction though !
Please do more Evanescence. Watching people discover them has been my favorite quarantine hobby.

Amy Lee has one of the most beautiful voice.
They are excellent live too...
She wrote the song for her sister. But it sounds like it can apply to a lost lover, or baby. Or anybody you were close to.
The man playing this piano is Ben Moody who was one of the guitarist in Evanescence but left the band after have disagreements with Amy Lee.
Great reaction ladies. You should do more Evanescence. Also MY Chemical Romance. Both great bands.
I never get thru this without crying... Ever...
Do 'Good Enough' also by them, you will be surprised.
Yessss!!! Their best song 😍
Evanescence- lithium, going under, wasted on you 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Mihret looks so beautiful 🔥🔥🔥
Great reaction. You must react to two of their other songs, “Call me when you’re sober” and “Going under”
I would suggest you check out "you never call me when you're sober" she is amazing in it as well.
I have anxiety and panic attacks panic disorder and flashbacks PTSD because of my past and I have two panic attacks everyday at school
I know she had a sister who passed away when they were both children. At least one of the songs (Hello) on this album are about that. I'm not sure if this is as well.
The guy you are referring to is the band or was at that time
This is about Amy's sister who died early from an illness very sad
It is NOT about Amy's sister.
This song is about the loss of her sister and the pain she is feeling
SEESTAAAAAAAS ITS NOT A BREAK UP AMY'S DEAD REEEEE
I wish we saw you guys discovering that about the song on camera
The video is so good. You might not have noticed that she's playing an angel. Never touches the ground, no one notices her, dressed in white... it's a very clever video and so subtle. I don't know how accurate it is but I was told she was thinking about her sister who passed when she was young. So, I suppose, she was representing her sibling by becoming the angel.
Its not about her sister, Hello is about her sister. This song was written by Ben Moody for his dead grandparent.
She was in a relationship with a band member and it created extremely emotion tension for her and the band.
Immortal means someone has passed away. Beautiful song.
Please do more 🙏🏻
First time I heard this song was on Oprah
This song wasn't 10 years old when you watched. It was closer to 20. It released in 2003.
I heard that She wrote this song after her younger brother died.
This is about missing someone dear who passed away
The clue is in the songs title. They're not broken up or separated, he's dead. My immortal
She wrote the some about the lose of her younger sister, so the person she is singing to isn't a guy but her sister
My heart is broken would be my next suggestion. And also lithium, game is over, going under, call me when you’re sober. There are too many good ones! Lol
Please do Bring Me To Life next 🤓
The eyes!
See her other side and react to - Bring me to life - that song is know worldwide as well as this one
Amy is playing the ghost of her little sister who died and who she wrote this for.
Just cry...........its okay,,,,,,,,,,ich habe euch beide lieb
Lots of people who do drugs listen to this song when they're trying to grasp back some emotion a few days later. That's why it has a high view count.
