Played this for my daughter's funeral, she passed from fentanyl at age 34....my immortal 💔....I'm no longer afraid of dying, I'll see you there my purple princess 💜...in heaven baby girl.
This song is almost 20 years old now and came out when I was in my early 20's. It's a song that defiantly hits harder today. Back then, to me it was just a great song by an awesome singer, now it's a very powerful emotional song. I can now relate to the lyrics, but not just towards a specific loss or relationship with someone, but towards my memories, my moments, and my mind. The older we get, the more the memories hurt, not just the sad and/or bad ones, like losing a loved ones, as I have lost both my parents over the last twelve years, but the good ones as well, like having a wonderful childhood, first getting marriage, your children's births and them being young, these memories of life, moments of time, will never be as great as it once was, as certain moments that will never be experienced again like they were when we lived them. My memories, both happy and sad, are slowly killing me as I can't let go and depend on them so much.
She wrote this song in honor of her sister who died when they were younger. She's...like an angel in this video...her feet never touch the ground. She also has bandages on her hands & feet... I think it represents the wounds/hurt we feel after losing someone we love! It's a beautiful & haunting song that touches us all. You should check out "Bring Me To Life" another of Amy's songs.... that wrote about her .......now husband. She was 20 yrs old when she did this one! So talented!!!
My Immortal was inspired by material that the band's original and former guitarist, Ben Moody, wrote about the death of his grandfather. Amy wrote the songs, "Hello" and "Like You" about her younger sister who died at age 3.
Hate that loss hit you so hard, I felt like that off my mom for a few years, now I can barely remember her face and no idea on her voice, just saying pain passes the longer from it
😢 So sorry for your loss. So hard to know what to say, as we all deal with loss differently, but my prayers are with you. I might suggest Sarah McLachlan | Angel (live) to listen to as well. God bless.
You were speaking truth about how people are going through their hardships without saying. It's good to get reminded of that, to remind myself why I treat everyone with kindness
An absolutely amazing reaction. You've definitely got a new subscriber. I'm so sorry for your loss... I lost both my mother and father when I was 20 and it hit me really hard also. I have been a fan of Evanescence and Amy Lee since they/she first made their debut (when I was about 13). their music has truly helped me throughout my life more than any other band or artist. I hope to see more of them in your videos in the future! They bought out a new album this year (The Bitter Truth) and it is - just like every other one of their albums - AMAZING! With all that said though, thank you again. You seem so genuine and kind-hearted. Thank you so much for sharing part of your story. I know it wouldn't have been easy, but it really does help to hear other people who have suffered a loss (especially of someone so close). I hope you are well. God bless you 🙂
It's a powerful song, but her voice just brings out alot of emotions and its sometimes hard to handle. You have a great channel and I'm sorry for your pain.
Oh, sweetheart...my heart 💔breaks for you. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad 11 years ago from liver cancer & my mom 9 years ago from diabetes complications. I'm not quite as young as you, but when I lost them I was only in my early 30's. Still, they died far too young. I have no words of wisdom or advice...I won't lie & tell you it gets easier. It hasn't for me anyway. It still feel like it just happened. I just wanted you to know I feel your pain. Lots of people do, probably. Knowing I was not alone was the only thing that gave me even the slightest amount of peace. My thoughts are w/you💕
Diana. I am so sorry for your loss of your dad. But believe in your heart you will see him again in Heaven.....Hold that in your heart in that knowledge for God is with us always and for ever.
For the "record": "The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one. Similar to several other songs written by [Ben] Moody, the lyrics of the song are based on a short story he had previously written.[According to Lee, it was "Ben [Moody]'s song." Moody said that the song talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." He also stated in the booklet of Fallen that he dedicated the song to his grandfather, Bill Holcomb. In "My Immortal", Lee expresses her feelings through the line, "Though you're still with me / I've been alone all along.A writer for IGN said that "'My Immortal' is a song of pain and despair caused by the loss of a family member or very close friend and how it drove her [Lee] to the edge of insanity." My father's family has strong Apache and some Navajo lineage. When someone dies, all of their clothing is burned along with other similar possessions, with the rest being left with the body for the spirit to take with it to the afterlife. He also won't speak the name of the person who has passed. Tradition says one year, but he's always taken it further than that. I don't even know my own grandmother's name on his side because of this. The belief is that the spirit will hang around and bring bad fortune on the family, causing grief to run far longer than it should and possibly even taking some of their family with them so they won't be lonely on the journey. The part of me that is not Native American understands the desire to wear the shirt, something that was so close to his skin. But the Apache/Navajo in me is worried for your safety and health. Maybe some day, when you have healed enough, you can let it and him continue on his journey. But I feel like wearing the shirt is not going help you heal. Please take care of yourself 🧡
I just discovered your channel and hearing your story about your dad I wonder if you've listened to the song monsters by James Blunt or if anyone else has requested.
Sorry to hear about your father. Losing loved ones hurts. You don't know how many thousands and thousands have cried to this song (okay, I admit it). They also have albums in 2006, 2011, and this year. They have a handful of ballads like this one, but mostly hard rocking songs. I'd gladly suggest a few if you'd like.
I pick up after listening several times that *_she_* is dead but doesn't know it. She thinks he is. Her spirit is locked in a permanent state of mourning her loss whilst he mourns his. The clues: the strange (and beautiful) clothes she wears, the flowers in her hair, the bandages on her wrists (!), the fact she never touches the ground.... Apparently not. I thought the same, but it is actually about Ben Moody's (the guy at the piano/who also plays guitar) grandfather passing away. He wrote it as well, apparently.

I lost my dad almost 13 years ago and I always think about him. It leaves a hole in your life that only Jesus can fill
