    The painter making her lighter than she actually was demonstrates why there are so many different portraits of Queen Charlotte that are whitewashed. That painter was Allan Ramsey. Look up the portrait of Queen Charlotte at St. John's College at Oxford. Allan Ramsay painted that one.
    Lady Danbury is much older than Violet and she had never even met Violet at that point. It's not like they grew up together and were friends as kids. They became friends late in life.
    The episode in the garden was worse than anything Reynolds had ever seen before. Dr. Monroe made George worse and he deliberately provoked that episode.
    Queen Charlotte and King George were married for 57 years. She held him down all those years and had 15 babies in 21 years. That's why those spoiled kids are annoying. They were allowed to be free for decades until the line of succession was in jeopardy.

      Thanks for sharing. We're definitely going to do a deep dive once we finish the show. We started this show thinking she was a fictional character for sure.

      @@AtypicalReactions I live in the Charlotte, NC metro area. She's the reason our city is called The Queen City. Our Mint Museum has original coronation portraits of Charlotte and George from 1761. In the 60's her portrait was damaged by racists who cut her face and put the n-word at the scene. They seemed to be pretty sure of her ethnicity.
      I originally watched Bridgerton just because of the portrayal of Queen Charlotte. I couldn't believe they were spilling the tea so openly. 😂🥰👑

      @@AtypicalReactions I need to checkout out The Gilded Age. That era is when they falsified everything. They gilded the truth with a thin veneer of lies. The purpose of the World Fairs was to show off our existing infrastructure before destroying much of it. Woodrow Wilson was at Princeton totally rewriting American history in his 5 volume set. He also introduced "official images" of many important people and his their race.
      But we are awake family. 🙏🏾❤️

    I really enjoy the conversations you guys have after each episode.
    The George stuff was so hard to get through this episode. I was kind of frustrated with Reynolds this episode. I get he is sworn to obey and king and technically George did agree to the “treatments” , but when George was screaming for the doctor to stop I feel like that should have been an excuse for him to contact Charlotte or at least tell Brimsley. And the scene of Charlotte saving George was great. You could see her tapping into the strength and authority that she has as an older woman.

    it's not surprising Lady D & Queen Charlotte did not have close relationships with their kids. During that time period women of means were not very involved with raising their children. They let the nannies do it. Lord Ledger's relationship with Violet was an exception.

    27:44 Apparently William (the son she was just talking to) and Adelaide (the woman he just married) ended up having a happy and affectionate marriage and genuinely cared about each other (impressive since the first two sons marriage was a disaster - re the second son Frederick saying in episode 2 that he hadn't seen his wife for 20 years, and the eldest son George disliking his wife so much that apparently he didn't even tell her when their daughter died, apparently she had to read about it in the newspaper instead of someone coming to tell her the bad news or racing her over to be with her).
    In reality William was something like 20 years older than Adelaide and had 10 illegitimate children by the time they got married - apparently that's why she was chosen because she was one of the few women considered who was willing to take on his children as well (customs demanded that even if a man didn't marry the mother of his "natural born" (as they used to say) children he still needs to provide for them to make sure they've got security and some level of comfort and a future even if its not luxury) and apparently she actually got on pretty well with them. William and Adelaide didn't have any children (either Adelaide had one or two miscarriages or she had a baby that died in a few months, I forget) but I think she did manage to get him to cut down on his drinking.
    I guess that's why the scriptwriters had William be the one Charlotte gave that talk to and why we saw him look at Adelaide as she was escorted down the aisle, as well as letting us see Adelaide smile at him. Either they're working on the audiences knowledge that their marriage worked out pretty well or this was their way of telling us that this will be an affectionate marriage.

    Lady Danbury and Lord Ledger hold such a special place in my heeeearrrrt because we've seen how cold Lady Ledger is towards her husband too so now both Agatha and Lord Ledger finally find someone who wants to spend time with them and know them and they share interests and gardens start blooming...and they are doomed because he's married and she's the first black widow of the newly titled side of the ton and they can't be together.
    Also, Charlotte's "sorrows and prayers" here vs when she was saying them to her son are so different. Here she's trying to be a friend to Agatha so she doesn't say them out of necessity but instead with sincerity compared to the strain of a precocious linage has on her after her granddaughter and future heir's deaths where her mind is now scrambling (and she's not a 17 probably 18-year-old who anymore) Even the infliction in her voice is different in how she says it.

    • @AtypicalReactions
      @AtypicalReactions  Рік тому

      Interesting.We never saw Lord Ledger as being in a loveless marriage, but he definitely didn't agree with his wife's politics. Also interesting about "sorrows and prayers". Why do you think she was so sincere, when she knew Lady Danbury's feelings from the sex talk?

    • @NyikoDoris
      @NyikoDoris Рік тому

      @@AtypicalReactions if the marriage wasn’t loveless, it certainly wasn’t one of the best ones we’ve seen the series portray… I mean how compatible can you be with somebody who doesn’t share similar ideals (that people of colour who are titled and rich are the same as the white rich, titled people in the ton).
      And I think it was sincere because she believes Agatha is her only ally and whatever hatred Agatha feels regarding her husband, she still lost someone. It’s more of Charlotte feels bad for her friend rather than she feels bad that her friends husband died.
      Or at least that’s just how I read the scenes. I mean when Agatha‘s husband dies, both of them are either in the mid 20s or 18 and are figuring out their new roles as a titled Lady and Queen respectively.
      By the time we catch up with them in present-day Bridgerton, they’ve been playing their roles for 40, maybe 50 years, they’re settled. Charlotte knows who her friends are and her only mission is to secure George III’s line. That’s why it’s insincere when she consoles George IV.

    Simon is much younger than her kids. He is 30 yo in Bridgerton and her kids are supposed to be in their late 50s and sixties. Lady Danbury is supposed to be like 83!!!! I know, it's stupid because the actress is like 60! They messed up the timeline. The two time periods are 56 years appart.
    By the time Simon was born, her kids were already young adults, so by raison Simon, she had a new chance in life to do it right since she didn't raise her own kids.
    Also here Violet is 12, so she is not supposed to be born yet because because that would make her 68 in Bridgerton instead of her late 40s/ early 50s as she is supposed to be!!!! Her oldest son, Anthony, is 30! Which would mean she hasn't started having kids until her late 30s and she was likely too old to have her younger kids!!!
    Queen charlotte is supposed to be 74 in the Bridgerton times, but they took an actress is in her early 50s, so too young, that's why they dulled out everyone's age, but it doesn't work! Her children are supposed to be in their 30s to 50s but here they look to be in their late 20s to 40s....

    Augusta is the Dowager Princess, rather than the Queen Mother because she was never Queen. She was married to the King's son, but he died before the King (there is more about him in the next episode), so the title passed from George's grandfather to George.

      @Deltadivaix 4 місяці тому

      Actually no. You are correct though in the sense of Dowager Princess. Since she was never the actual Queen she is The Dowager Princess.
      Per wiki
      A queen mother is a former queen, often a queen dowager, who is the mother of the reigning monarch.[a] The term has been used in English since the early 1560s.[1] It arises in hereditary monarchies in Europe and is also used to describe a number of similar yet distinct monarchical concepts in non-European cultures around the world. The rank does not go to all mothers of monarchs though. A mother of a ruling monarch may only be referred to as Queen Mother if she was a Queen Consort as opposed to a Princess Consort.
