Moria is the epitome of a failed pirate with crushed dreams, starting out as the main strength of his crew to depending on his DF which is purely used for new subordinates to fight on his behalf. His defeat by Kaido is the entire reason that: 1) He’s on this island doing what he’s doing 2) Luffy is able to beat him To be clear about the second point, it’s also mentioned he went to the New World and came back. Him losing to Kaido means he went pretty far before being defeated, and Luffy at this point is not New World level yet. It was Moria’s laziness from the sadness of his defeat that gave Luffy a foothold here, even if that foothold was on very fragile ground. Wano is also mentioned this early too, by the way. Ryuma’s corpse is the first representation of Wano in the entire series, though I’m not sure who’s shadow was occupying the corpse.
The looks on all of the Straw Hats crew faces when they replied ''Never'' sent chills down my back. The Straw Hats can't catch a break. The amount of single and combo battles never ends it seems in this arc. Just when you think it was over, they have another battle waiting.
