Played a Pirates of Shipgrave Reef game, our first boat, The Hero's Gamble, was one that had been salvaged from the wrecked boats that washed up, and when we hoisted the colours all we had was 'granny's patchwork quilt. The name Patchwork Pirates stuck

I feel like that of all the magical damage types, radiant probably makes sense to be nonlethal. Showing mercy and restraint feels appropriate for wielders of holy magic.
Makes sense to me, also a skilled user could probably keep lightning damage non lethal, like a taser. Would probably argue for an arcana check if the stakes were high.
Probably the best DM on the planet, with a wonderful, wonderful cast to work with. Well done all, wish I was in a position to reward your entertainment.

They used to have char sheets accessible last season and have deliberately removed them. I vaguely recall a reason being provided though I'm not confident I remember what it is and wouldn't want to spread misinformation. But they might be deliberately leaving it opaque.

I watched this on the unlisted livestream but wanted to put my thoughts on the main vid too. That bleeding mechanic at the end seemed quite unfair. Once the pressure of combat was gone they should have been able to remove the stacks in an rp sence instead of using every available source they had to hopefully remove a single stack. Definitely room for some major tweaks here Mark

Seems like a lot of damaging mechanics for a fairly low level party and get rid of items a team of relative glass cannons can use to get up downed allies if they go to zero.

This from a D&D veteran of over 40 years, with 38y of DMing experience, the levels of bleeding from Guild goons made zero sense. Overcomplication w/o reason does not add to the scenario.
I hate to be critical as I love the group, but I feel like Tom is overshadowing the group, he’s always very keen to RP which is great, but seems to want to speak even before mark finishes. Would love to see him rein back a bit and let these other characters come through more, I feel like we’ve seen less of them compared to the same points in campaign 1 & 2.
I can kinda see why you think this, but I don't really agree with you tbh. I feel like it's just a mix of Trott, who has previously favoured bombastic, larger-than-life PCs playing a much more gentle and quiet character with Rowan. And Xantheus, being the "face of the party" Mechanically speaking and in his personality. As for having seen less of Kim, Trott, Rhi and Katie's characters than we had at this point in Aroes or Lightfall? That's not true, in fact, in my opinion, we've had the most even spread of character backstory and development out of any of the 3 main campaigns. Lightfall was an absolutely incredible campaign, but the start was rocky to say the least. By episode 11 nearly half the episodes were focused on the quest to revive Jiutóu [My favourite character of any HR campaign] She even had her own solo episode. As for Aerois [or Aeoris xp] the first 11 episodes were definitely more "balanced" than Lightfall, but Katie was straight up missing from more than half of them! Either way, i feel like you're missing what, in my opinion, really makes Mark's DMing outstanding and that is his use of character-focused arcs. From Elora's Winter Spire political intrigue and Nova's Espionage arc in Vortinssar. To Sentry rediscovering Solwynn and becoming the prime and Cam facing the ghosts of his past Greybell. These arcs all centre around a particular character and therefore a particular person at the table yes, but they do so in a way that draws the other characters, players and us at home in all while learning more about said characters in a fun and organic way. Sorry for the wall of text, I'm just really passionate about this group and about Mark as a DM in general :)

I must admit, my take on campaign 1 was ill-remembered, as I was reading what you wrote, I recalled Jiutou’s revival, Trell’s arc into the underdark and various other points, really agree with you on the matter of Mark’s dming about building stories with the PCs. Mark is doing an amazing job of giving us just enough 1-1 time with PCs to let them come through, Rhi and Kim’s characters are so different from campaign 2 it’s amazing, I love how Mark and the PCs often lean into those backstories. My comment was born more out of observing group lead interaction with NPC’s, I feel horrible making this a negative point as I loved Qillek and Tom in campaign 2, but I feel like Tom is really steering a lot of these engagements, perhaps without giving others the chance. It could be a bad take as it’s still early on and the group dynamics are still developing!

Played a Pirates of Shipgrave Reef game, our first boat, The Hero's Gamble, was one that had been salvaged from the wrecked boats that washed up, and when we hoisted the colours all we had was 'granny's patchwork quilt. The name Patchwork Pirates stuck

I feel like that of all the magical damage types, radiant probably makes sense to be nonlethal. Showing mercy and restraint feels appropriate for wielders of holy magic.
Makes sense to me, also a skilled user could probably keep lightning damage non lethal, like a taser. Would probably argue for an arcana check if the stakes were high.

They used to have char sheets accessible last season and have deliberately removed them. I vaguely recall a reason being provided though I'm not confident I remember what it is and wouldn't want to spread misinformation. But they might be deliberately leaving it opaque.

I watched this on the unlisted livestream but wanted to put my thoughts on the main vid too. That bleeding mechanic at the end seemed quite unfair. Once the pressure of combat was gone they should have been able to remove the stacks in an rp sence instead of using every available source they had to hopefully remove a single stack. Definitely room for some major tweaks here Mark

Seems like a lot of damaging mechanics for a fairly low level party and get rid of items a team of relative glass cannons can use to get up downed allies if they go to zero.

This from a D&D veteran of over 40 years, with 38y of DMing experience, the levels of bleeding from Guild goons made zero sense. Overcomplication w/o reason does not add to the scenario.

I hate to be critical as I love the group, but I feel like Tom is overshadowing the group, he’s always very keen to RP which is great, but seems to want to speak even before mark finishes.
Would love to see him rein back a bit and let these other characters come through more, I feel like we’ve seen less of them compared to the same points in campaign 1 & 2.
I can kinda see why you think this, but I don't really agree with you tbh. I feel like it's just a mix of Trott, who has previously favoured bombastic, larger-than-life PCs playing a much more gentle and quiet character with Rowan. And Xantheus, being the "face of the party" Mechanically speaking and in his personality.
As for having seen less of Kim, Trott, Rhi and Katie's characters than we had at this point in Aroes or Lightfall? That's not true, in fact, in my opinion, we've had the most even spread of character backstory and development out of any of the 3 main campaigns. Lightfall was an absolutely incredible campaign, but the start was rocky to say the least. By episode 11 nearly half the episodes were focused on the quest to revive Jiutóu [My favourite character of any HR campaign] She even had her own solo episode. As for Aerois [or Aeoris xp] the first 11 episodes were definitely more "balanced" than Lightfall, but Katie was straight up missing from more than half of them!
Either way, i feel like you're missing what, in my opinion, really makes Mark's DMing outstanding and that is his use of character-focused arcs. From Elora's Winter Spire political intrigue and Nova's Espionage arc in Vortinssar. To Sentry rediscovering Solwynn and becoming the prime and Cam facing the ghosts of his past Greybell.
These arcs all centre around a particular character and therefore a particular person at the table yes, but they do so in a way that draws the other characters, players and us at home in all while learning more about said characters in a fun and organic way.
Sorry for the wall of text, I'm just really passionate about this group and about Mark as a DM in general :)

I must admit, my take on campaign 1 was ill-remembered, as I was reading what you wrote, I recalled Jiutou’s revival, Trell’s arc into the underdark and various other points, really agree with you on the matter of Mark’s dming about building stories with the PCs.
Mark is doing an amazing job of giving us just enough 1-1 time with PCs to let them come through, Rhi and Kim’s characters are so different from campaign 2 it’s amazing, I love how Mark and the PCs often lean into those backstories.
My comment was born more out of observing group lead interaction with NPC’s, I feel horrible making this a negative point as I loved Qillek and Tom in campaign 2, but I feel like Tom is really steering a lot of these engagements, perhaps without giving others the chance.
It could be a bad take as it’s still early on and the group dynamics are still developing!
