Way Huge and Jim Dunlop present a series of instructional demos that
provide overviews of Jeorge Tripps' signature Way Huge pedal line along
with professional tips on how to use the pedals in musical ways.
In this episode, the Red Llama's ability to seamlessly work with an existing amp tone is on full display. Tal Morris demonstrates how to use it as a clean, uncolored boost to hit your amp's front end or as a device to mix in some dirt that sounds like its coming from your amp. Like many of Jeorge Tripps' designs, this pedal is built to provide a wide dynamic range, cleaning up with a simple roll-off of guitar volume.
The transparent and organic qualities of this pedal translate to any guitar/amp combination. To demonstrate this, the next episode features the Red Llama working with a humbucker style guitar and a high gain amp setting:

Most unstated underrated pedal there is. Most organic cranked fender amp style drive pedal I’ve ever played. I really do not understand why not every single blues musician has one of these on their board. This through a black face amp sounds monstrous and allows you to get the sound of a cranked fender amp at lower volumes it’s really great.
Complete agree. I finally bought last year a Way Huge Camel Toe MKII just because of the Llama side. It sounds beautiful pushing my Bassbreaker 007 combo. When off, the amp sounds Marshall-ish. Engaged, the Llama fully uncovers the tweed soul of the Bassbreaker. Love it.
I’m considering getting one of these to push my Victoria 5112 (tweed champ with a 12 inch speaker). Would you recommend it?
@@sdrebels13 yes
I just love the cinematography on these videos
one of the best explanations on how to use cleverly (with amp context), that pedal.
It made all the difference, to me, too.
When I started to watch this, I knew this is the pedal I need right after my MXR distortion+. That's what I love about those pedals, they don't mess your amp tone. And for me, my friends, tone and volume MUST come right after your amp, not your pedals. The distortion+ and this sweet baby red llama do exactly that, the push your amp while your tone remains almost intact. Worth the shot
By opaque I'm sure he meant transparent
Formula 55 catalinbread
circlejerkers lost any sense for semantics, smh
He meant transgender
El mejor overdrive que he probado. Sonido único!
One of my favourite pedals!
These videos are great!
Your scope is so cool, too.
Great sounding OD!
Well great, need two Llamas now
“But now you’re hearing the llama itself” lol
“I experimented to see what would happen if I added a second llama”
😂😂😂😂
"Opaque" sounding? Thats a new one.
He means transparent, opaque is the opposite.
great demos.
This pedal is bacon - it makes everything better.
You rule Tal!
I really need to try hooking one of my oscilloscopes up to one of my amps sometime....
I stack this with my fuzz and it sound soooooo good
Thks Bing...was thinkin about that Cat Form 5...
LW
Love
How do you think it would work with a solid state amp? I got a 80s Marshall lead 20 and like the sound
“I love my amp, but I would just like MORE of that sound!” - Nigel Tufnel
Pedal sounds pretty good, but this video's pure Spinal Tap.
I like that 465 oscilloscope. How do they work?
That’s it, I need a second Llama!
Sure sounds good me wants one
What's the purpose of the oscilloscope? Besides looking rad.
to see what nobody can hear
@@Shadow__Banned 😂
it's there to blow your mind
Easy to see what you may or may not hear and see if there is an effect vs placebo
My amp is very clean but i need that dirt overdrive but not push my mid and coloring my tone does this pedal do the job?
This absolutely does the job, most of the time i have this set just as boost with drive down and it works great as no color overdrive
2 lamas gettin it on! Nice
How will it work into an amp modeller
I like the idea of two Llamas in row
Amazing review 🙏🏾 What guitar are you using here?
Would this pedal give me the Tweed sound Im craving..?.I run a Tele thru Hot Rod Deluxe
LW
No, it just sound like the hot rod deluxe driven harder. Check out the catalinbread formula 5 or lovepedal les lius for tweed
Does the amp have to be cranked really loud for the pedal to make a noticeable difference?
So when is the Red Llama smalls with a tone knob coming? Cause that is what we all want...
The 25th year anniversary edition, though not a smalls pedal, has the tone knob. I have one and love it.
I bet two llamas stacked was the inspiration for the fat sandwich
Why is there always at least one asshole that side steps what the demo is all about.Great demo and the pedal sounds amazing.Think I'll pick one up.
So it’s a amp amplifier?
It occurred to me that this pedal should be shot out against the DOD 250 preamp
My llama really doesn't sound like this at all! (I use a Fender hotrod aswell as a Marshall DSL40). 🤷♂️
I've used this with several guitars from my lower output single coil Fender Duo Sonic to my high output humbucker Fender Jaguar Blacktop. Depending on the pickups, you're gonna notice a huge difference. At least I did. Had to play around with settings for each guitar. I will say it did sound less aggressive on the single coils. Tom Petty had one which is why I got 25th Anniversary Edition one with the tone knob. On the Duo Sonic dialed in just right for I Won't Back Down.
First pedal demo to try and convince people they need to buy two of the same pedal.
"very opaque and open sounding pedal" that's a swing and a miss....
There was no tone in there that sounded organic.
m k I thought the opposite lol
Your demo sounds nothing like my Red Llama.
try it through a real tube amp
Way Huge came out back in the early 90s, and there were major write-ups and reviews which made me want to get 3 or 4 of the pedals, but they went under in 2 weeks, pathetic. And here, 500 years later, Dunlop gives them a diaper so they can make pedals again. Thank you, no. Way Huge are too wishy-washy.
I'm not sure why that is wishy-washy. A company went out of business and a larger, more successful company, decided to bring them back - including the original designer/builder. That seems like a good thing...maybe I'm missing something.
Dunlop has a marketing team, and distribution channels that Tripps lacked in the 90's. While there is probably no small amount of corporate oversight and direction of the Way Huge line, it's not like the name is going under so quickly this time around. Also, Way Huge is an intellectual property, purchased by Dunlop. They could issue anything they wanted under the name, but they have elected to re-issue and improve certain designs, and allow the original proprietor of the brand to have a say in what is made. That is uncharacteristically cool of a large company like that.
While I can sympathize with an anti-corporate sentiment, and a general distaste for macro-marketing done by the companies, this instance is not one that I have a huge problem with. It is a little deceptive though, in that people may not understand that they're purchasing a Dunlop product when it says "Way Huge" on the pedal. Materials enclosed with my Swollen Pickle cleared this up, but I honestly thought Way Huge was its own company when I purchased the pedal.
gwugluud 77 There always has to be a hater in the crowd, if you don't like the pedal, don't fucking buy it...
If you'd bought those 3 or 4 pedals back then you'd have had a substantial profit now..
