- VOX AC15c1 with WAY HUGE RED LLAMA🦙:
In today's Vox Friendly Pedals episode, we are having a look at the Red Llama by Way Huge! Whether you are looking for a clean boost, adding a bit of edge to your tone of flat out boost the front end of your amp, this simple pedal does it all. I will be using a Squier Stratocaster Classic Vibe, and Epiphone Les Paul Standard into my Vox AC15. I'll be running the Red Llama into a Clean Vox, and later into a cranked up AC15.
My signal chain is the Vox into a Two Notes Captor, using Wall of Sound with Celestion Greenback Impulse Response.

Love this channel. Vox deserve more pedal love
bpsychoz 🙏 yes they do! Cheers
Great demo!! You demonstrated two very important things I find lacking in most pedal videos.....You TUNED your guitar and you showed how well the pedal cleans up with the guitar volume. SUBSCRIBED
Glad it was helpful! In case you missed it, here is a playlist with more videos just like this one. Cheers

A lot of really usable sounds! Thanks for the demo! 👍
Thom Calhoun my pleasure Thom!
I bought the Red Llama 25th Anniversary because of this video. Thanks! I also use the Deco, EQD Plumes, and two fuzzes with my AC15.
That's awesome! That's the version with the tone control, right?
The Tone Lounge Yes sir. I’ve learned to try to always buy OD pedals with tone controls with Vox amps since all I use are the normal channels.
@@bpsychoz I am on the look out for the same pedal you bought just so I can have that tone control, it gets kind of bright without one.
I've never been impressed with demos that I've seen with this pedal. However, you changed my mind about this thing. Good job.
I'm glad to hear that. More people need this on their boards.
@@TheToneLounge Dammit I don't need anymore pedals. LOL. I just bought a zen drive clone that I haven't even plugged in yet. So how does this compare to the newer version or the saucy pedal?
Just ordered the 25th anniversary version bc of this video. I think this may be the most flexible overdrive for vox amps. I love that it seems to really complement different pickups also. I like it’s compressed, fuzzy yet articulated tones, good demo!
Yours will be even more flexible with the tone knob. It is one of my top 5 overdrive pedals. The worst thing is, many people overlook it or don't get it. Those who do, however, freaking love this thing.
The Tone Lounge I dig the crunch in this demo, it pops out and sounds punchy and tight. I was having a hard time choosing between this and the fulltone ocd. Theres something i find more unique about the llama. Also i’ve got a dod 250 which i like but felt like the ocd would be too similar so i went with the llama. Nice riffs btw!
Really loved the riff at 4:10! Great sounding pedal as well.
Thanks for the feedback. And yes, it’s a killer pedal! Cheers
@@TheToneLounge Of course. I also love the fact that you used an AC15! I have several great amps, but my AC15 gets all the love now. It's a desert island amp for sure. Does yours have a greenback or alnico blue?
Mine is loaded with a Greenback. I really dig it. I have not tried a real Blue but I did shootout the Blue and GB in the IR format. They are both great.
@@TheToneLounge Gotcha, I just checked out your IR demo. My first AC15 had a greenback. I sold it and later bought the amp again with an alnico blue. I love them both, but don't know which I like better, definitely the blue has a more "vintage" character and just feels more sensitive somehow. The solution may be to own both! ha
Yeah I was thinking that too. Running both at the same time would be sweet.
Great demo but still haven't heard anything better than my Electro Harmonix Hot Wax duel overdrive..
I love the Red llama, great pedal. I used this for a long time before switching to the Way Huge Saucy Box. I think the Saucy can do the Red Llama things but is a little more tweakable.
Which version of the Saucy Box do you own? I have the Saucy Box HC and I am a bit underwhelmed with it.
@@TheToneLounge I'm honestly not sure what version it is. Just the normal black with pink writing. I'll open it up and see if I can figure it out.
Looks like it's the standard soft clipping version. I have the hard clipping version of that pedal.

yes! finally! was wondering how does it sound with ac15, I mean....Tom Petty can't be wrong using one with his ac30s :)
You'll be hearing it Monday morning my friend. Ton Petty knew what's up when it came to tone. Cheers
@@TheToneLounge just as I thought - sounds ace!!!!
@@tomi1537 I dig it for sure. Which application do you prefer it in: to boost an already overdriven amp or straight in the clean amp?
@@TheToneLounge both actually. It really sings in an overdriven amp with LP, though
This combo for me is heaven, I have an AC15 now I need the Red llama. Hard to find at decent price these days. I've even written Dunlop with a request to re-issue it.
I heard that the EHX Hot Tubes is basically the same circuit. Perhaps that might get you there until you get a Red Llama?
@@TheToneLounge Hot Tubes is pretty nice as well, but I did not connect the dots there, thx for that
@@Mr.Steve-O my pleasure!
@@TheToneLounge I have a beef to pick with you, a legitimate beef. Literally, I just got a Legitimate Beef from Chicago Stomp Works, another WHRL clone, so yeah thanks for this great demo! Can't wait to run it through my Vox AC15.
@@Mr.Steve-O
I believe they are both CMOS type overdrives. I got a Hot Tubes around the same time as my AC15 and it does the old school overdrive thing very well.
There's no right or wrong of course. Once you go with pedals though it's an endless journey, it's like plug-ins on your DAW, just a hole with no bottom as far as I'm concerned. An AC15 is a thing all its own, a lot more than most amps I think. They're usually associated with 'jangle' guitars like Rics and Jags, but that's because they have a lot of mud to them when driven hard and put a little midrange meat to thin-sounding pickups. To my ears, a Vox sounds just awful with a Les Paul, for example. I think more that most amps, the AC15 doesn't lend itself well to any kind of overdrive pedal.
It’s really a matter of preference. Some would argue that pedals are garbage, others that pedals are the only way to go. There is a middle ground where gear is a tool, and when you know what you want and know how to get there, then the gear serves a purpose.
You haven't tried the right pedals. Go try a Rat, Timmy, Hotcake or Catalinbread DLS and get back to me.
This is normal channel only?
Yep, I demo most pedals through the Normal channel.
@@TheToneLounge I like it
Thanks, me too. Cheers
@@TheToneLounge Sounded great, but it must be punishingly loud?
Best from Denmark
You mean the amp?
Pssst, it’s an EHX Hot Tubes.
Psst, it's not! The Hot Tube and the Red Llama are both derivatives of the Craig Andertons Tube Sound Fuzz.
