This is literally so ingenious! Imagine if you have multiple ppl, one playing just the percussion on the guitar, then another person just playing the notes, and maybe 2-3 MORE ppl playing bass guitar, more percussion layers, and what you essentially have is a full orchestrated bloody band, literally consisting of only guitars! X'D
I saw Jon briefly at a gig a friend of mine put on. He was absolutely amazing, a nice guy but the highlight was him destroying a heckler. Great video, very informative.
Jon Gomm, you, sir, are my hero on the guitar. I've managed to get an album on CD of yours with (obv) high and dry on it, and I LOVE your interpretation of songs u are truly a guitar god. Milos Karadaglic just the best to ever do it, i think. But you are right up there
Seriously awesome THX man you totally inspired me I started playing guitar 30 years ago & I got bored & gravitated to drums & bass it was getting just too expensive & made me obsessive glad I found this bcuz all the tools are at my fingertips Bravo sir 👍🙏
i don't think Mr. Gomm can do that with all the machinery in his Guit-Fiddle, but you're right, it creates a nice pop.. it's nice to flare with too, if you flick with all five at a fill in or something
haha i picked that 'riff?' drumline? er. music, as your song surrender very early on, was nice to see how that all came together for that song!! awesome lesson!
Jon makes a hell of a comedian as well, some parts had me cackline up pretty good. "don't knock on the guitar with your knuckles it's bad for your health" hahahThanks Jon
Qué bueno. Pero hay una pregunta que me llevo haciendo tiempo. Cual es el mejor sistema de pastillas para que suene todo bien profundo en directo? Que sistema de pastillas usa este hombre? Gracias
thanks for the lesson bro. I wanna start messin around with this style and using loops and also beat boxing. it's a kick ass style if you can get it down! but always remember guitar playing is still about having fun...not comparing ourselves to others talent! Cheers mate
I kept up with you for a little while. Once you added the guitar, I was done.... I've been working a little on percussive guitar, but it's not as easy as it looks.
Adding the bass note in during drumming makes me think of brushy one string Your awesome , do you have anything against the idea of straight slapping all the strings and the with fingers and wrist very whip like to make the strings ring, the strings male a ass percussive noise plus the bass of the body being hit with the thumb where it meets the wrist? Trying to see if there is a reason not to do that lol. You have much more experience tha. me...... obviously
It's where the fleas in Jon's circus go to have a drink after the show, there is also a wee hamster that lives inside, where his wheel powers the electric bits of Jon's guitar...
thanks for the lesson! you know im ok with the drum thing on guitar....my only problem is in the live situation where my piezo acoustic guitar cant ''catch'' all those percusion sounds.....so when i try to loop something like this the only sounds that my guitar catches are the kick and the ''snare'' (hitting the strings) so my main question is do you use a mic instead of a piezo? (mic made for the inside of the acoustic guitar). or a mic infront the guitar? :)
Krishnendu Patra watch and learn, watch Bob Rosman and other percussive guitar players, try to immitate them and you will find your own style... this is one of the best lessons out there though! Good luck!
It actually is, download a transpose - pitch plugin for google chrome and slow the speed top about 40%, it took about 20 minutes to get it down (not as fast as him) but the beat is simple because it doe not have an odd tempo.
"Do not use your knuckles, is bad for your and the guitar." *Uses knuckles immediately Sorry, I'm actually quite an experience guitar player and I'm looking for advanced drumming techniques and when you say snare all I see is you snapping your knuckles down and that's what I hear as well. If I'm wrong please correct me.
Cian Crowe Guess what, still a lesson. If one wants to learn the technique he's using, one needs to understand it, be able to observe it and listen, with detail, how he is producing those sounds. Therefore slowing it down would be useful for the learning experience. By the way, I would love to know how my request to Jon Gomm affects you, in any way.
You owe me for all the scratches on my guitar... oh wait... disclaimer??? Damn you and your vague disclaimers! I guess I’ll just have to drop the lawsuit. BTW, that makes a nifty sound, too... the sound of money evaporating...
Kick 1:14
Snare (flick) 1:35
Toms 3:30
4:30 demo
5:03 high hat

Thanks!

"It does hurt a little bit... But you know... Man up"
"it's a big wooden box, and it sounds good when you hit it" I love the scars on his guitar, and it sounds awesome!
WOW!! I'll probably never master this.. but it sure is fun to listen to you!!
You got this, just keep at it 👍
My guitar also makes that sound when I drop it.
[SURVIVOR115] 😂😂😂😂😂 i laughed way fucking hard
LOL
haahahaa
ahahahahah nice!! survivor115 :)
I can create better sound...please give your guitar.....i will kick....I'm a football player....
His the only guitarist who ever explore combining percussive and slide guitar. It can be done. He's proven it. On yah. Brother.
He got his inspiration from bob brozman rip
i bet his guitar gently weeps after a session
What you did there, I see it .
Well done sir.
Bravo
*violently wails
I bet it moans
This is literally so ingenious!

You are a humble mastermind 🌹👌
I saw Jon briefly at a gig a friend of mine put on. He was absolutely amazing, a nice guy but the highlight was him destroying a heckler. Great video, very informative.
Dear Jon Gomm,
Thank you for making me quit playing guitar.
Best regards,
Gaz.
Gaz SS 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
overused bad joke

For anyone wondering.. the song he's using to demonstrate here is called "Surrender" :p
Love that dude.. i would definitively listen, if he reads out his shopping list ^^
Seriously awesome THX man you totally inspired me I started playing guitar 30 years ago & I got bored & gravitated to drums & bass it was getting just too expensive & made me obsessive glad I found this bcuz all the tools are at my fingertips Bravo sir 👍🙏
I was about to buy a guitar thanks to this man... I have now changed my mind🤣🤣🤣
For me u r of other legend I saw on online. Thanks sir for u r idea. U r great.
We are not drum players we are guitar players... Let's add some bass
lol
Seriously?
bass *guitar*
The guitar is literally a big wooden drum with strings a bridge, a nut, and tuners. Make the most out of your instrument.
How do I play 808s on my guitar?
Flamenco uses strikes in a much more subtle and accented way. This style has become all the rage in recent years.
“Wow! I didn’t know we’re allowed to do that !”..... love it!!
You’re not allowed to do that people do it but it doesn’t mean you should that’s why his guitar looks all screwed up.
@@chrisbenson3374 what do you mean you're not allowed to do it? He's literally doing it
Nice. If you can catch the edge of the soundhole on the 'snare' sound it really pops. This is so far beyond what I'm ever likely to do though.
i don't think Mr. Gomm can do that with all the machinery in his Guit-Fiddle, but you're right, it creates a nice pop.. it's nice to flare with too, if you flick with all five at a fill in or something
Wow you are so talented I love it
Great lesson. I enjoyed it very much.
man I could watch hours of this
Just like playing the drums. Your awesome
'It might mark the finish on your guitar'
Says the man known for having a guitar that looks like someone clawed into the body.
I like the duct tape
Deserves 1M+ views.
amazing video btw loads of luv
haha i picked that 'riff?' drumline? er. music, as your song surrender very early on, was nice to see how that all came together for that song!! awesome lesson!
For all guitar lovers, watch the beginning of the song : selfish love by Miyavi, he use this method and just killed it
WOW!! Awesome! Really appreciated . Thanks very helpful.
Amazing!
You are a amazing guitarist
...🌹❤️🇱🇰👍
Thank you for this. 🤗😘
You explained the style of guitar technique pretty well because I'm just trying to go into it.
It is basically like slap guitar kind of like slap Bass.
Gracias
Fantastic Jon But....Can you do it while walking & chewing gum with an untied shoelace?
That's a requirement for practice
Any tips to prevent wrist injury from that kick technique? Cause I think I'm starting to get one...
Learning classic and flamenco that's why I'm here hehe.
I get the frustration to those who don’t play this style of music. However, you’ll get it !! Keep trying rhythm is key.
"Zombie Metal" I'm honestly not even offended, and will be stealing the term. Thank you.
Lovely ❤️🤘
🔥🔥👌👌عالی بود استاددد ممنونمممم
Cool.... very cool!!
Wow amazing very helpful

wow nice Guitar and Drum.😃😃
Well add that to the list of totally amazing shit I will never be able to play
You changed my life and decreased my guitars.
very cool

didnt know Louis Litt played guitar..
Awesome
Did anybody else burst out laughing when he started doing everything at once, because of sheer "what the fuck"?
What tuning is he using?
Sounds like Drop Bb, but I could be wrong 😅
Bb F Bb F F Bb..I think! Its a tuning Preston Reed uses ( CGCGGC) but dropped another step
wow. this is pretty cool!
Why The Hell Was This In My Recommendations?
What's the bar on the guitar?
+Jessica Ng Pickup/mike
It's where the fleas in Jon's circus go to have a drink after the show, there is also a wee hamster that lives inside, where his wheel powers the electric bits of Jon's guitar...
Dude is awesome
That flick must hurt!
that's Ross Geller from season 1 talking
I just loop a beat Box rhythm and play over it. This is very cool but is limiting and after a half hour it kind of sounds all alike.
Holy fucking GENIOUS
"Does hurt a little bit, ya know, man up" instant like
Is it on dadgad?
Wow thats so cool

ALEXANDER EVAIN He explains it here: ua-cam.com/video/f4ECPsHpI_Q/v-deo.html
super!!!
Increíble
sir I m just fan of urs ...sir plz I want to learn from u how it is possible...sir I am from India...sir plzz tell me ...how i learn from u...plz sir
Krishnendu Patra watch and learn, watch Bob Rosman and other percussive guitar players, try to immitate them and you will find your own style... this is one of the best lessons out there though! Good luck!
love from India
He’s right once you get one of these percussive songs down you’re like YES! 💪💪💪
Then you try to sing the lyrics at the same time 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣
I don't get how to time the hi hats ;(
1/8th notes
16th notes, actually.
16th notes
Grande Cena!
Did anyone else go 'OWWWWW' at the snare bit?
This is really inspiring. goog thing
Oh Jesus!
Wonder how much guitars he might have broken
Genial
That's some pretty interesting percussion playing.
Now he should learn to play the guitar.
This is not 1/100 as easy as he makes it look
Aakos94 definitely not these were the harder of drum sounds lol
It actually is, download a transpose - pitch plugin for google chrome and slow the speed top about 40%, it took about 20 minutes to get it down (not as fast as him) but the beat is simple because it doe not have an odd tempo.
"Do not use your knuckles, is bad for your and the guitar."
*Uses knuckles immediately
Sorry, I'm actually quite an experience guitar player and I'm looking for advanced drumming techniques and when you say snare all I see is you snapping your knuckles down and that's what I hear as well. If I'm wrong please correct me.
You could slow it down, specially the last part, so we could pick it up.
He's not trying to teach u how to play the song only demonstrating how to play the drums on the guitar
Cian Crowe The tittle says lesson, not demonstration.
Lesson on how to play the drums on the guitar not how to play a specific song
Cian Crowe
Guess what, still a lesson. If one wants to learn the technique he's using, one needs to understand it, be able to observe it and listen, with detail, how he is producing those sounds. Therefore slowing it down would be useful for the learning experience.

onfire4000 you need some level to do this stuff, I guess that if you can't understand in this speed, you need to level up before learning it
Sounds more like Congas mix with Bongos with Hi-Hat than Drum kit!
in Jon's case, his guitar is the one that needs practice
I did it!!! It was easy.....I slammed my guitar and just quit. Thats was so easy
wow
4:28
Use a foot tambourine for high hat
tanck youuuuu
i take it you don't use your show piece guitar to hammer out these patterns,
what is this its very difficult
omg
You owe me for all the scratches on my guitar... oh wait... disclaimer??? Damn you and your vague disclaimers! I guess I’ll just have to drop the lawsuit. BTW, that makes a nifty sound, too... the sound of money evaporating...
This mans a fucking animal 😳
Yeh so
Kick
Tap tap
