This man is my new favorite guitarist. Jon Gomm is incredible.
Wow... That was a phenomenal demonstration. I've been trying to learn how to write like that and he's totally laid the groundwork for how to do it.
He's a genius! Doesn't matter who's so every but you will Definitely gotta learn something from this video.... God bless you John!
Watching this video, I have never regretted deciding not to bring my guitar with me more. I can't wait to try this out!
Ninja! Thanks to running across Antoine Dufour and Andy McKee I have now also found Jon Gomm. Although I primarily play electric and am a big fan of progressive, rock/metal & shred type genres, I am in love with modern acoustic players as well. I think we are blessed with players that are so gifted and have transcended beyond what I would equate to typical fingerstyle playing. What these people do is amazing from a musical standpoint and from a technical/feeling standpoint. Now I just need to get acrylics and learn how this all works lol.
Oh man, thanks for sharing Antoine Dufour's name.
You just added one more teardrop of this amazing sea of music/musicians.
Please let's have more of this Total Guitar! I've needed something interesting to play like this for a while! Oh and how about a tab of Passion Flower?
Whatva teacher! Really gifted
thankyu sir for your great tutorial....
What a boss. Us mortals can merely bow to His Gommness. Saw you at Union Chapel (London) on the guitar masters tour in October 2012 - how phat was that sound setup? Link up with Andy McKee and come to South Africa again - weather is fantastic, beer is cheap :)
Louis Litt teaching us percussive guitar. What a time to be alive.
LOL What a coincidence. I'm just starting to watch Suits for the first time, and I totally see what you're saying 🤣
This is epic
this man is so cool holy shit
l loved way u r play...
if that is level 'ninja' then what levels are 'passionflower' and 'everything'? lol probably level 'Jon Gomm' right?
Passionflower -- Level: GOMMEGA
kage level
How did you build the finger strength for tapping those strings?
difficulty level = Jedi.
I would love this guy as my music teacher.
holly shit!!! I'm doing it!!!
im guessing the progression is kinda c# d# f D#, but for some reason im hearing daft punks get lucky work so well with it
What is the best or most comfortable finger to use with the slide and how well would all of this work with standard tuning???
What a song he played?
+Никита Максимов It`s just an exercise , not a song.
"That's pretty ninja" - Jon Gomm :D Also I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing His Gommness if you guys would like to check it out!! whatculture.com/music/culture-interview-jon-gomm-22112013.php
Scott Tailford Man that was one good interview :) Thanks for sharing that!!
***** Thank you very much I had a blast organising it all, Jon was brilliantly accommodating being he'd just been interviewed by someone else beforehand too! Glad you enjoyed it! :D
Qual a afinação?
Whats the benefit of using left hand above neck?
I imagine there's less strain to arch your hand, allowing the high strings to be tapped/ring out without your left hand getting in the way. It would be a lot harder to pull off the melodies with the left hand underneath
Rick Schneider That's a good point. Yeah I've seen Reggie Wooten and Stanley Jordan doing this too, was just wondering why!
+Mac otherwise it will be in the way of his other arm when he is doing the melody
You gain more power to tap the notes with your hand above the neck. You can totally play with you hand in a more conventionnal place but you will likely find it less confortable.
I don't think your hands would be close enough to really hinder one another if you played with your hand below the neck
difficulty level = ninja.
Difficulty Level: NINJA
sir do you combine sound hole pick ups with SBT pickups ?? for ur music...i hv noticed two cables....does sbt help in percussive tap on sound board...plzzzzzzz let me knw
He actually uses 3 pickups. A Fishman rare earth blend which is a combination of a condenser mic (which picks up the percussions) and a magnetic soundhole pickup (humbucker) (they share the same endpin jack but he splits the signal with a 1/4 inch Y cable). And a Fishman matrix infinity which is a under-saddle pickup. (the other endpin jack).
Tuning ?
what kind of pickups are those?
..that's fucking insane hahaha
got it. just like passionflower (without the banjo pegs).
please anyone gets me those pegs T_T
what strings do you use?
did anyone catch what he said about hes thumbnails at 7:30 ?
He said they're acrylic reinforced nails.
Ninja
He's obviously amazing but I wish you would give some lessons that are simpler. Advanced lessons are great scare off too many people.
beginners aren’t really his target
Master!!! Repaired guitar)) And it will soon be wiped hole
Well.. Thats pretty easy to me.
Interesting: he's got a piece of styrofoam at the back of his guitar body.
He calls it his "prosthetic belly". Normally the guitar is held in place, while sitting, by your legs. When you move your right arm away from the bridge, your legs stop the body of the guitar pivoting away from you. In order to keep the guitar rigid in the set position he wants, while standing, he has done two interesting things a) the unique guitar strap, which is akin to a brass instrument strap, to hold it horizontally in the position he wants, and b) the Styrofoam to stop the guitar from moving away/towards he body as he moves his right arm away from the bridge.
Hope that made sense haha.
It's incredible how he can make an expensive acoustic guitar sound like a low budget cajon and a badly recorded dulcimer.
I laughed but I'm sad because I like jon gomm's, I even play some of his songs, but I can't deny that most of live records does not make justice of his tone.
