Perhaps the most creative and original way a movie had use the song.
"Your buddy is here"
101th like
NickToVa 137th like
your buddy named buddy
well, they made this scene around this song so... all the scenes are made around the songs they use
The lyrics have baby in it too
Only Edgar Wright can make such an intense scene with a song like this
yea true haha
Not true. Scorsese can as well
Tarantino's use of "Stuck in the Middle with You" during the cop torture scene in Resivour Dogs. One of the best.
You know a Director is astonishing, when they put an out of place song within a very tense or uncomfortable sense. But manage to make it work perfectly.
I wanted everyone to die from the baddy wtf...
remember that baby was going in with that song not expecting buddy. this song was his go to for a romantic kissing session but the tables have turned on his head and it still fit the scene
omggg YESSS
Stolen comment
The way I first saw it is the music is also for Baby. He will never stop loving the waitress even when asked if he loves her he doesn't lie.
Him taking a sip from the cup while Barry White goes "Ahh" is so hilariously well synced
True lol
Everything in this movie is well synced
Lmao
That was definitely planned. Edgar Wright is a genius
Like a coffee commercial 😂
This song defines Jon Hamm's character perfectly. Loss his girl and he's not going to stop chasing the person responsible unless they're dead or he is.
yup bonnie and clyde there
Yeah but u have to realize it wasn't baby's fault...she stood in plain sight and shot at the cops...that's stupid of her
never gonna give you up :D
someone has to suffer for his loss
I've never been in love so I don't know what's that like
i love how earlier in the movie baby sharing his music with buddy is a sign of trust, he's letting buddy into his world, because buddy has been kind to him, so he takes a tiny step of bringing buddy into his world, whereas now when buddy takes his earbud, its an invasion, buddy is forcing his way into baby's world, and ripping away his control, then he pulls baby out of his world, his comfort zone, into his. and this is all just communicated by the framing and the acting. incredibly well done
extra note: he also steals the perspective, note that the music doesnt stop until buddy's earbud is out, and we dont see baby grab the gun until he's already shot buddy. he is in total control over the situation until baby shoots him. the majority of the movie is in baby's perspective to give us the feeling that he has control, and whenever he doesnt have perspective, is usually a scene where things have gotten out of hand, where baby is not in control, this scene being a great example
That's really interesting. I saw it a little different. I tought Buddy was listening to the music trying to remind Baby of the connection they used to have. The fact that he knows the song and the lyrics shows that these two really did understand each other. Him listening to the music like old times is his last sort of friendly gesture towards Baby, that's why he then goes with "the song is over".
Still, it's totally up to interpretation.
Use a period bro
i had a heart attack trying to read that
I dont think buddy was ever kind to baby
This scene was incredibly climactic to watch especially in the cinemas. Loved it. Really intense. Music amplified the whole situation and emotions they all felt.
Peachy Girl i’m glad I watched it in the theatres
@@m.h.1593 I'm glad I watched it twice in theatres
Why am I seeing this in a "BABY DRIVER" video?? BUG?
"the amount of people who thought they were good at physics getting a reality check in college..." tis you?
lol i hope you are not a bot because that is exactly how i felt it was very intense!
I’m jealous I didn’t watch this in theaters. Same too with blade runner movies
I loved Bats as the villain, but as soon as Darling died, I knew Buddy was gonna be a badder one.
Kaipyro67ALT especially during the diner scene when Bats was all up in their grill and you can see Buddy just grow red and stone faced
bats wasan't the main villain he was a "necessary evil" while Buddy was the pure villain
MystikalScope Productions Ya there was some good foreshadowing in that scene when Monica (Darling), was telling Bats how relentless Buddy can be when he’s angry.
Bats was not a villain, just a guy whose job was more important than the lives of his crew members
she says how he sees red, and in the last scene his stolen cop cars interior is lit up red.
God, this was a masterful scene....
The movie was masterful lol
Wgen buddy drinks the coffee cup in slow motion matching to the music when baby walks in and realizes its him, great directing

Lex Blazer THIS IS A MASTERPIECE OF A FILM!!!!
I did not expect to see you here 😂
Took me a couple rewatches to notice that even in THIS scene the music is synced with the doors closing and him tapping his mug!
yeah lol thats wright for you
Which part?
It's like that through the whole movie, like during gun fights etc. It's really cool
Darth Jaulce listen closely at 2:09
The whole movie is like this, the movie was made to match the songs instead of the other way arround, so the whole movie is in sync. Also, it's really interesting how the lyrics of the song match the mindset of both Buddy and Baby in this scene, specially in the shot with Debora right in between them with the song sayin "I never ever gonna stop..."
It's the little details like the cup tapping at 2:09 that gives me chills every time I watch this
Oh hell yes that's so sick
The crickets in time with the high hats, baby putting the car in park, the headlights turning off, taking the key out of the ignition, grabbing the bad, opening the car door, his footsteps as he walks to the diner, opening the outer and inner doors, Buddy sipping coffee in time with the “Ahh”, the newspaper hitting the countertop, every time Buddy starts a sentence, the police lights/sirens, the cop closing the car door and opening the diner door, Buddy patting the seat next to him, the taps on the mug. All in sync, all on time, and I’m sure I missed some
I thought she was going slap him with coffee maker.
@@matthewjensen8681 Yes I had the same perception. it´s a master piece of editing. every door the guy opens matches the bass of the music, the "ahhh", of barry White with the coffe drink, the sound of the nail on the cup matches the music, and the enhance of the music when the older guy takes one earphnone just at the time of the chorus of the song,. The look of the older guy when he hears the song like saying "good taste of music", The sound of the newspaper, etc. amazing
The really twisted thing is, according to Edgar Wright's commentary, Buddy wasn't going to kill Baby. His plan was to blow Baby's eardrums out and kill his girl in front of him, and then just leave him to live the rest of his miserable life with no one and nothing he loves, the same way Buddy has to.
jabberwagon *Spoilers
still at the end of the movie he can barely hear so what stops him from getting hearing aids and keeping those or for music just making it as loud as possible
I get the idea though
Yeah the sound is all quiet and distorted after the shots by his ears, but after the ear-checkup thing the audio becomes normal. I think they treat his eardums.
That's what I thought he was going to do in the first place. It's such a classic move.
oh man, that buddy was such a good dude, only planning on killing a girl who had nothing to do with any of this
I love how Baby is staring him right in the eye the whole time. He knows he's got a gun too and he's just as dangerous as Buddy is.
mike james he doesn't I don't think. Pretty sure he stole his gun at the end
It wasn't Buddy's gun beacause in the following scene Buddy uses his gun to shoot the cop. Also, both wepons have a different color.
mike james baby isn’t as dangerous as buddy xD
The Overboss man is at his most dangerous protecting something he wants and has.
The way buddy say "I'm never ever gonna quit 'cause quittin just ain't my stick"
Classy
Shtick
Shtick
schtick*
I love the scene after this too. The,
"Guy: Have you ever shot a gun before?
Baby: Yes I have-
Debora: Literally like 5 minutes ago."
0:41 - I hear this sound every time I look at Jon Hamm.
jabberwagon same!!
ua-cam.com/video/8lgkIQmMFXE/v-deo.html
Ditto
"make love to you right now, that's all I wanna do..."
jabberwagon no lie my brother and I when we heard that we laugh our asses off cus it was so unexpected we just had to laugh,😆😆😆
jabberwagon ooouuhh yeeaaa 👈👈👈
I don't know why, but I always feel SO bad for certain villains in movies. Especially Buddy in a way. The way the movie makes you some what trust Buddy with how he is nice to Baby in the beginning of the movie. It was one of the saddest scenes seeing how Buddy grieves over Darling...
I think they had father-son relationship but one moment drastically changed that
I got a feeling that they could resolve this without hurting anyone. Buddy just needed some consolation and support to get from his dark place he was in atm.
@@jestbone89 No. You have no idea what you’re talking about and don’t understand Buddy’s character or the situation.
@@TheWelchProductions give the number of similarities between Buddy and Baby I think Buddy is ment to symbolize what Baby could have become had he stayed with the life of crime
@@steventomasi5557 Perhaps, but at this point in the movie, Buddy is past redemption. He lost the love of his life because Baby chose not to do his job and put the rest of his team’s lives in jeopardy. Buddy’s only mission was revenge because he had nothing to lose.
Hamm is a hell of an actor
I sat next to him once at a breakfast restaurant when he was in Atlanta filming the movie. He was slouched over the counter I was sitting at and wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, but I was able to recognize his face. It looked like he didn’t want to draw any attention, so I let him be, and he left momentarily afterward, but it was still pretty cool to see him in person.
I’m sure he appreciated you not drawing attention to him. 🙂
This scene is beyond perfection. That look Jon give at 2:42 with the song in the background, damn that's good
Because it's about him. He didn't care if he lived or not. He wanted revenge
This was such a creative way to use the song.
"Your buddy is here"
This scene was menacing. Buddy was an awesome bad guy. I could honestly see him playing the punisher but sense the punisher has already been cast beautifully I could definitely see him as a wolverine
The punisher is in the movie :)
He would definitely make for a good "old" John Bernthal Punisher
Since*
Man seeing him as Punisher would blow my mind. Too bad Disney will fuck it up somehow.
Jon Hamm is just damn good in this movie
Hands down, one of the best scenes of this movie !
Yap truee
Did you mean "Yarp"? Ah? Get it?...... I'll show myself out
Well, that's hard. The opening is pretty epic, and the Hocus Pocus foot chase is up there too
pathetic movie
Danzan Sandeev
Narb
One of the best pieces of cinema ever made, the scene and the song combined is genius
Finally, someone that gets it.
I concur!!!!
“I’m afraid you still have to face the music”, such a chilling line.
Baby Driver is gonna be a classic in the future like Back To The Future, Jaws, Mad Max, and Raiders of The Lost Ark
Renaissance Boy nah
Dirk dirk yes.
Unfortunately I personally doubt it, and that’s coming from someone with this as their favorite movie
This is my generation's back to the future, i felt that vibe
No. It's good but not THAT good
this is my favorite scene in the whole movie. it's just an amazing combination of light, the overall setting, the behaviour of the characters, and of course, this wonderful music. I'm very glad that this particular song was playing at that moment, and not something from the category of "ordinary melodies for gunfights". because this song especially suits for this moment. I also admire the moment with hitting the beat at 2:10
Years coming back to this video and that's exactly the feel. Can't get tired of it. Never will
When buddy sang with the song, damn I can tell that he loves the song so much
I have so much love for this movie
Ana Mm Its legit the best scene in a while in cinema haha
Me tooo!
You got romance, comedy and action in this movie and it’s fantastic
@@Alvarohmo WTF…
2:39 the shot of baby and buddy’s head together with the airbuds look like a heart with her face right in the middle lol
Came expecting a rick roll, stayed for the incredible scene
For anyone curious, the car baby pulled up in was a 2013 Ford Escape
This is the best movie of the past couple of years. Holy crap just everything about this movie is just amazing. This scene especially is just so good with the music and everything.
*INSTANT CLASSIC*
this movie is hands down my favorite of all time.. everything about it is just so intricate and perfect down to every detail. controversy on some of the actors aside everyone’s performance is spot on. i remember the goosebumps i got when they went thru the garage in the car chase blasting queen.
Favorite scene. Thanks so much for uploading!
no prob i really love this scene xd
Jon Hamm is perfect as Buddy and I love that the role was specifically written for him.
I've never watched an episode of Mad Men, so I never really understood the craze over Jon Hamm (aside from good looks) and then I saw this movie and God Damn! I want to see more of this guy! He was the scene stealer for me :)
0:36 "your buddy's here"
Clever writing right there
What a great song. Barry White is a legend
Jon Hamm defined sinister in this scene.
"Thats plenty." The look after she poors the coffee.
10 years from now this scene will be remembered as one of those classic ones, without a doubt
I think movie makers will reference this scene, playing this song in the background of another talk between the protag and the antagonist
Again, I've said this to many people once and I'll say it again - every character in this movie is amazing in their own way, and Buddy was an amazing antagonist in the last part. His plan for revenge also amazing too: not the cliche "kill your nemesis" plan, but take away what he loves most right in front of him - his eardrums and Debora - just like what Baby indirectly did to Buddy.
That's Don Draper being a boss again
This scene is so good.
I love how Buddy’s character reminds you of the truth about these guys. Bats may have been the most obvious psychopath, but they are all criminals notorious enough to be members of Kevin Spacey’s teams. Buddy was just the best at keeping it contained. As they say, every man is just one bad day away. Jon Hamm is incredibly underrated.
Buddy is such a great character.
He was the only one that understood Baby. The only one who was smart and compassionate enough to properly appreciate and accept someone who sees the world and expresses himself in a bit of a different way to the people Buddy's used to. It's that level of empathy he possesses that allows him to come up with the perfect vengeance of deafening Baby. He doesn't just clock Baby's obsessions as a point of weakness like a sociopath would, he doesn't just UNDERSTAND it, he GETS it because he relates viscerally to a sincere love of music, and the love of another.
In any other set of circumstances, they would have maybe been great friends, but things simply didn't work out like that.
Some antagonists, you understand why they do what they do, but you don't condone it and still consider them wrong, a villain. But not Buddy. You agree with Buddy and if he'd have succeeded in what he was trying to do, I'd have honestly just been like "fair enough".
An eye for an eye doesn't fix anything, but it's telling that Edgar Wright had to at least have Baby deafened, because the audience would have otherwise been angry that he got away with what he did to Buddy scott-free.
Amazing scene- can't even explain why it's so good
It's the calm before the storm moment. You know all the characters, all their motivations are well defined, and you feel the tension in the air. All with a perfect song choice that represents the moment in a twisted way
This easily has to be the most aesthetically and well timed scene captured in modern day cinema. I cant stress enough how marvelous Edgar Wright for choosing his selections of songs that in a way we wouldn't understand or even think about. Yet he managed to plan it out accordingly and effectively. Well done Mr. Wright. Some of your best work yet
Edgar Wright always mixes music with his scenes beautifully
for me that is the best scene in the movie... so intense !
Buddy: I loved her
Song: *right on*
I just love how a cop just walks in not noticing how the wanted man was right in front of him.
Seriously, even the freaking crickets are in on the rhythm.
Edgar Wright is really one of the best directors today.
The acting is on point! Surprised that neither of them won an Oscar
Ngl i was expecting Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up
0:00 The crickets sync with the song in the beginning
a natural metronome
This scene is a marvellous juxtaposition of screen-writing, directing, editing, the way that the music is used and the tension is created by giving us small bits of information raising the stakes. There is also a wonderful emotional complexity going on in Jon Hamm's subdued performance of rage, sorrow and menace.
1:16 Jesus, the performance from all the actors are just amazing
This song perfect characterises Buddy perfectly. A song of passion/ love. Darling & Buddy extremely passionate about the other. The line in the lyrics. “I ain’t never gonna quit” with Buddy even singing it directly at BABY.
I still can't get this scene out of my head... It is marvelous and I remember it when ever I get to hear the song. I feel the urge to rewatch this scene and so I do. But then I want to watch the entire movie again aswell 😅
2:10
I really liked how his taps on the cup matched the beat.
Who else came here for the video's title thinking it was a rickroll but accidentally walked into a masterpeice?
Buddy is such a good villain, probably because you least expect it and because it’s so justified. He never hated baby, he considered Him almost like a son, giving him advice and standing up for him when Jon Berntjal’s character was picking on him. It wasn’t until Baby did what he did that got darling killed, and buddy lost the only thing he cared about in the world, that’s when he became unhinged. great villain
this was one of john hamm's first scenes shot in the movie(not ideal but had to be done) and he still does INCREDIBLY. great work
The thing that made this movie a 10/10 is the sound editing. The way the music sounds almost muffled at times when it’s just Miles listening but when Debora, Bats, and Buddy listen in, the music intensifies and increases in volume.
i love love LOVE the parallel between this scene and the killer track scene from earlier. the earlier scene was set to brighton rock and still managed to have a lighthearted, even cute tone to it. this scene has a much lighter song to back it up but flips the mood on its head. all the while, the scenes are visually linked by their shared headphones. masterful character development
Just brilliant editing, perfect song for the situation.
easily my favorite movie of 2017!
What a master piece of cinema editing. WWOOOWWW!
The perfect cut at the end 😂
Fr
John Hamm is such a smoothe actor .. “I love loved her” that’s why this song played through the whole scene ❤LOVE ME SOME HAMM
"That's plenty."
"Thank you"
Honestly, the first time I saw this movie, I didn't even notice the music in this scene for a while because it was so well incorporated
This song matched with Buddy, the movie is literally one of my favorites in 2017
Edgar Wright is a genius. Only he can make a scene so intense with a song like this
Was I the only one expecting a rick roll?
Dony
HAHA that's why I clicked to...
Reverse rick-rolled hahaha
EVERYTHING about this scene, my goodness. Can’t get over it 👏
2:20 is why you train in self defense, and remember your surroundings are your weapons. At this point in time she had all the power. Ultimately it worked out, but it is at this point she could have ended it all regardless.
Hot coffee. Face. Grab the gun, end the game.
The director made it seem like Debra was going to splash the coffee on Buddy when she picked up the coffee jug in a close up shot, but she was too scared to do it. In fact, when she was pouring the coffee, she was shaking because she was about to be killed by buddy
You don’t need to train in self-defense to know to do that.
I love the turn around and Baby just shoots him, like its so out of character for him but so fitting after all he has been through
>gets video in recomended
>clicks thinking that its a rick rolled video
>watches whole thing begining to end
>sad now that i realized i got pranked by another song, with almost the same lyrics
John hams character did not deserve to die he was the nicest of all the criminals who even offered to let baby go, baby just ruined his life which broke the poor man
Adam P Baby can’t trust him. For all he knew, Buddy could have just said that to put him in a false sense of security and then get back at him.
Blame Bats. He was the trigger-happy idiot.
Shit, blame Darling too. Not only did she abandon any idea of taking cover, she also decided to shoot with two guns at once (it is a bad tactic in real life - she was spraying bullets all over the damn place and you can see that she’s aiming too high - no doubt it’s the recoil fucking up her aim).
Es increible esta escena. El manejo de musica para los ritmos y tensiones en esta pelicula es impecable. Espero que muchos disfruten este aspecto del esta pelicula.
Thanks Satria, very cool!
When you realize Debora is Cinderella
TheYthokid Aaaaaaaa
that’s a weird parallel to draw, i can’t think of one similarity to Cinderella apart from a guy falling in love with her, she wasn’t tormented at home, he wasn’t rescuing her out of poverty, they don’t meet at some big event where she hides her true identity, honestly i don’t know why you’d draw that conclusion
Stefan Beefan I think he means the actress that plays her also played Cinderella
Knowing she was Cinderella, it makes her look badass in the climax of this movie
Thats probably the best scene I've ever seen in every movies I've watched
1:00 When you delete Monika's file but instantly regret it
He’s in so much pain and it is baby’s fault that his girlfriend and buddy wants paybacks for that!
I don’t know why I was expecting a different song….
I love this scene. The song fits so perfect
now hold on, have i been reverse rick rolled?
Yes
so many things about this scene get me; the ‘that’s plenty’ look, the look buddy gives debora while listening to the song, the way he sings along.
I just felt like this scene has so much tension, but the music makes it seems like its sexual tension, especially them sitting so close together and shareing earphones and him looking at him and singing. xD
Maybe the best scene of the decade
0:42 That's just beautiful
Every time I drink out of a mug now, I hear Barry White moan.
Thanks Edgar Wright.
By far my favorite scene and my favorite character from the movie. Never really seen much of Jon Hamm before and didn't think much of his character when I first saw him but I want to see more of Jon Hamm in these dark character roles he pulls it off so well. If DC ever do the flashpoint movie I want Jon Hamm to be Thomas Wayne's Batman.
Yeah, or maybe even _The Joker._ 😊
This scene just gives me chills every time I watch it
Jon Hamm is so menacing in this movie.
This has to be one of my favourite scenes In all the movies I've watched, this is so well put together.
