  • Last Epoch Cycle Starter Tips From Someone Who Actually Plays The Game
In this video I go over a few tips and tricks that I have learned over the past few weeks after cycle starting 11+ builds and counting.
There's a lot of build footage in this video so if you want to see one of these specifically I'd just go look through my uploads.

This was very helpful and it's so true about experimenting with builds. Sure the experiments don't always pan out, but it's awesome when you find an improvement that works just for you.

Being someone who creates his own (wack) builds but still loves the game, I appreciate these comments and tips Dre3d. Well done!

Nice video, good tips for anyone. Although I'm still going to try to level with the skill I intend to use in the end game, yolo. My way of looking at it is: would I rather have fun spinning in the campaign for 6 hours or suffer by throwing hammers for 3 hours? Although I also understand that most people might consider leveling with Warpath to be suffering and have more fun just getting thru the campaign faster... 🤔
I left some feedback to the devs back in 0.9 that the skill leveling system feels backwards (in my opinion). You get penalized for experimenting early on while you can completely swap skills and level them to 20 in two echoes late game. It's especially weird to me because you're constantly unlocking new skills during leveling up but it's not really fun to try them out because with 0 skill points they will be bad and if you swap your main skills around, it'll probably be worse too since they're only at like lvl 5 instead of 10.

I've actually spent a lot of effort learning how to campaign and early mono. Currently, when using a 'leveling build' you can get into monos around level 34 in ~2 1/2 hours with a little bit of practice. That means you have 2-3 skills that are relevant to your 'leveling build' and your character is functionally capable of killing level 58 enemies in the first monolith - do that for ~1 hour and you'll be level 50.
From there, you have 2 skills open to prep to transition into your 'real build' and climb your way through monos. Not only is this faster and stronger and all those other things, I also find that doing your 'real skill' from the earliest possible level isn't even really fulfilling, it often feels bad and plays COMPLETELY differently than it will when you have 5 skills with ~18 levels into them.
It's just so much simpler, easier, and legitimately more fun to blast your way to 50-60, MAYBE swap to your desired build then (or even hold off longer if you can) and once you're at a high enough level you can flounder around for a few hours and figure out some of the weirder stuff you're thinking about trying.
Leveling builds I Used (dread mentioned some of these): Glaicer Mage, Hammer/Javelin Sentinel, Totem Primalist, Bleed > Shadow Dagger Rogue, Golem/Mage/Zombie Necro, Wandering Spirits/DoT Warlock/Lich
These are all builds that just work on 0 gear and CAN scale into endgame, but more-so, you can run them half-built while you prepare to swap to stuff that looks more fun. GL~

This is one of my favorite things to do in this game is to use off meta or way less overplayed builds and mesh some stuff together.

I think the XP system on respecs could be vastly improved. Like after you initially earn level 20 on any skill. It should trigger something that makes de-leveled skills gain even more XP than usual.

Tip: run a mono that rewards XP books, finish it, but don't pick up the books. Respec what you want, pick up the books, boom. Hope this makes switching skills easier!

the biggerst question, did they fix the performance? since release?
    to name some
the extreme fps drops after doing 3-5 monos? or the fps drops in some zones, or some warlock skills?
that was the big doomer for me, dropping from 160 fps to 40 after 2-3 monos and restarting the game x times a day
hopefully, any1 have some insight from the last months?

I love this, and I love that I disagree. I love playing a skill too early and watching it slowly, painfully come online. I like killing bosses easily and watching my monolith clear speed slowly improve. All you said is very correct though, I just like being sad. Mana/Mana Regen is incredibly legit though.

On release, I played I think 8 characters up to the 90s. One thing eventually had me quitting all of them and getting frustrated with Last Epoch overall.
I would love to see advice on how to set up defensive layers to deal with the various one-shot ground effects that start popping up everywhere in monoliths. The most obnoxious one being the spires that fire a one shot at you from across the map.
Every time I have brought up the issue elsewhere, all I hear is "git gud" which is not at all helpful. Yeah, I get it, these do tend to be telegraphed. But there are tons of them, with various different graphics, which often get lost in the visual clutter. I also like to play melee characters most, so very often I have to be using up my positional equity on being able to actually do damage.
In hindsight, I probably hindered myself some by going CoF instead of MG. I can see how CoF would be better long game, but from watching some others it seems MG is better at getting gear at the point where my characters all seemed to be stalling out at.
Anyway, yeah, would love to see some tips on that aspect. I had tons of fun in the 1-90 parts of the game, but then always hit that wall, and would really like to know how to push through it.

Some for sure, but not all. A lot of skills don't care what your defense layers are. Even the ones that do generate ward, you could still use it as another defense layer with your life build.

@@Dr3adful I need to check that because now game is to bright to me, even on low brightness - some skill are bright as fc. In sam maps it is ok and then on another one (where winter is ) it is so bright still.
I hope devs will do something with it as it'a a lot post on games forumand redit
I remember in beta all was fine and then when they add new lighting in 1.0 all go south
