Dead Cells has such an awesome visual design that even its more mundane elements lead us to an f fascinating setting. I once wrote a similar video to this, but sadly never finished it. If there's a Time Keeper, maybe a Space Keeper? - what happened to the King? The Giant shows quite the resentment for how he turned from a beloved ruler to a royal jerk I stopped playing Dead Cells after 2BC, because the difficulty was just too much for me, but it is quite an amazing game!
"flip each other off" yeah that sounds like a Souls player meeting themselves. i would argue that it has Souls difficulty, but i also have better things to do so dont start
@@ahmadMacoofficialchannel Heya, might be a bit late for me to respond to this. Thing is, dead cells builds up difficulty a LOT and dark souls kinda just fucks you over and keeps you around that stage of difficulty, maybe increasing, but definitely not as drastically as dead cells. So what the other guy said it's actually kinda understandable, in dark souls once you get used to it and after tens of hours, probably going into a hundred you'll be able to breeze through the game fairly nicely, all be it still difficult. While in dead cells it will take you easily over 100-150 hours just to get to the most difficult point and dead cells is a LOT more chaotic than dark souls. Thing is, if you can't keep track of every little detail in dead cells you are dead, while in dark souls it's kinda just knowing your timings and the boss attacks, that's where the difficulty debate becomes problematic. Dark souls - few enemies, but difficult Dead cells- hordes of enemies, varying attacks, a bit less difficult for each one. Also keep in mind it's not like you can space out the tons of enemies, they all teleport after you. If you haven't played up to 5BC I'd recommend going to watch someone play it, it's absolute madness. Oh and also, dead cells is more punishing, you basically don't get to heal aside from your starting pots for the entire run, so while individual fights may be easier each mistake costs you a lot more, since you're not resetting the chamber, you're on the edge of resetting an entire run.
When I first beat the Hand of the King I was like "Oh, what a nice game it was" then I looked at the achievements, so many more bioms, bosses and also collectable powers/weapons/etc . And now I see this video and know that there is even more to come? I'm ready for this ride! Thanks for the video, it was really well done :)
I’m not going to lie and say that I am subbed or have even ever heard of this channel but I just wanted to say thanks for this. Dead cells is one of my favorite games and I haven’t seen such a thorough timeline anywhere else. Good video. (I’m subbed now)
@@Willimann game took me 3 times to beat the hand..but oh it’s not over...I love this game I purchased the android version, and I bought and own the $130 prisoners edition on switch...and the new dlc is kicking my ass.
Managed to reach the throne room, but I got decimated by The Kings Right Hand. That man and his f*cking attacks are so overwhelming, coupled with the ice panels above the spike pits and the death banners, its so much that it becomes headache inducing. Still love the game tho.
I can't but feel it's a light parody of Dark Souls, despite having a similar sounding name the setting is bleak and depressing like a Souls game but instead on drawing attention to the state of the world it often just goofs around with obscene gestures and silly dialogue. Even the trailers of the game reflect this, grim setting but lighthearted fun.
I was always trying to figure out the story, but I wasn't strong enough to get five boss cells... This was awesome video, I'm blown away. Now I must go and watch lore of the bad seed

Really nice summary of the story. Enjoyed it! There's one question that still remains unanswered for me, though I don't know if it's even related to the story: It's been a while but after beating the game for the first time there were some changes in the sewer biome. I'm talking about a giant unknown creature that hatched out of a giant "egg" or something, destroyed parts of the sewers and broke through the walls roaming free across the island. The protagonist even says, if I remember correctly, something like: "Whatever this is. I hope I'll never encounter it." Maybe this thing is one of the bosses or part of something in the future, but I really don't know what that thing was.
@@SquatchGamingChannel I faced him multiple times, but I never imagined that it was him (regarding the size of that boss compared to the hole in the wall). Thanks for the info. :)

Just beat the Giant and the Hand one after the other, melting them with a combo of Infantry Bow and Ice Bow, and whenever my Infantry Bow ran out of ammo, I swapped to the Broadsword I had in my backpack. My tail was covered by Ice Armour and Tonic. Probably the coolest thing I've ever done in a video game 😭 now I can sleep. Thanks for the extra inspiration to keep pushing, by the way! I want to beat the story fair and square and experience Motion Twin's work firsthand after seeing how much I was missing out on
now i like the game even more.... it's an awesome narrative, too bad that the average gamer (myself included) needs a lot of time and practice to achieve all that.... while keeping pace of the narrative in such a manner that you can sort all the details. Awesome work man!!!

- what happened to the King? The Giant shows quite the resentment for how he turned from a beloved ruler to a royal jerk
I stopped playing Dead Cells after 2BC, because the difficulty was just too much for me, but it is quite an amazing game!
Ah yep, now you can minus 1 unanswered question by DLC The Queen and the sea
"flip each other off" yeah that sounds like a Souls player meeting themselves. i would argue that it has Souls difficulty, but i also have better things to do so dont start
It's much harder than dark souls.
@@vegitoblue3613 🧢
@@vegitoblue3613 i disagree,
dead cell give us more advantage to face the enemy than dark souls
Dark souls - few enemies, but difficult
Dead cells- hordes of enemies, varying attacks, a bit less difficult for each one.
Good video.
(I’m subbed now)
I've only gotten to the clock tower once....after seeing this I realize i have an insane long ways to go. Depressing.
Ehh not really. The game goes fast once you get past that point
@@godfrey4461 except you die 10 times in the castle or brewery and after that another 10 times at the hotk
Welcome to Dead Cells
The key is to just git gud lol
You could say some words about Conjunctivius and Mama tick, they have nice touch to the story.
I touched on Mama Tick in my Bad Seed video, but not sure if I’ll do Conjunctivius. I’ll definitely be doing the new DLC when it comes out in the next few days!
Thanks for the suggestion! And thanks for watching!
I've been playing this for a little more than a year or two, and this would have never been an expected ending like this
I literally just picked this game up again after a couple years Xmas night. Just managed to beat the 1st hard mode last night.
Thanks for the lore!
Nice, man! You going to go all the way?
Thanks for watching!
This is really well done. Your story telling ability is great. I was looking for a video exactly like this for a long time. Thanks for making this. Keep up the great work.
Man, i would defnititly miss on the beaheaded being the king lore if it wasnt this summary video!!!
Honestly I feel bad for the king. He didn’t want to be evil, it he was put in a impossible position. A plaque is destroying your kingdom rapidly, you don’t know what to do. You can only try and slow the infection. He fell down the rabbit hole becoming the evil that damned the kingdom just because he tried to save it.
This is what I was thinking. I am glad someone brought this up.
Underrated post for sure
You need more subs. You put so much effort into making these videos.
More would be nice, but I'm happy these reach as many people as they do! I love being able to teach people stuff and if these help some people understand the story of a game they enjoyed or their favorite game, then these accomplished what I wanted!
Thanks for watching, man! Happy to hear you enjoyed! :)
This was clearly a labor of love! Thank you for all your hard work to put this together!
even when this game full of tragic lore, its somehow still feel really silly, i love it
I got chills when the main character said "and I am the Dead Cells." Soooo good
Really loved the part where he says it’s celling time and started to dead all over the place
I've been playing since the beta and have always wondered what the story of this game is, thank you
It's not like the average player ignored the story, it just that after collecting the Bios Cell Stem the runs becomes goddamn hard to finish the game!😂
Exactly xD is waaaay too hard for the average and even a hardcore player to get experience all of this :c
I claimed the 2nd and with 3C I cannot reach The Concierge 😭
@@Mirouku86 like actually bro. Getting 3 is so difficult for me. I usually at least try to make it to Concierge and beat him but it's always after that in Stilt, or High peak where it just seems impossible. Especially without healing.
Story line is just soo good that it deserves AAA title !!!! Seriously we need dead cells in AAA version like other games..!!
Awesome video, my friend. I enjoyed your rendition of the full story. Well done!
Craziest 2d game I've ever played.
.... is been a long ride since super Mario land...
love the game but didn't know the lore and not good enough to get all of it.
very well done video and a well earned new sub
Man I just beat 0bc, getting through all of this in its entirety is a feat man. Great work
I killed King and I thought it's an end. But there's a lot of things remaining .
Damn, i played this a couple years ago and got to 2 cells before just moving onto something else without realising what the actual story was - Great vid!
If you can still have a blast with a game and have a whole different experience when playing after knowing the lore, you know both the game and lore are good
One of my coworkers knew that I really loved the soul series and Bloodborne as well as Elden Ring. He also knew that I loved the Castlevania series. So he told me about Dead Cells. I watched this video and that was that I went ahead and bought the game and I loved it. In fact, I have all the DLC for the game. So if it wasn’t for your amazing work on your videos, I don’t think I would’ve tried this game out. So I truly thank you very much❤😊
This game always brings me back to symphony of the night
Lol this comment aged well xD
Thank You and since you do the stories better than most youtubers I wonder has there been a hyper light drifted story summery?
Thanks for watching! Happy to hear you enjoyed!
Not one by me, but I’m sure there’s one out there somewhere!
I knew I was probably never going to get all of the lore, this was nice.
I just finished the game for the first time and was pretty disappointed to know i had to do it 5 more times with increasing difficulty to actually finish the game and the story, i love the game but im not ready to put 100 hours into it to finish the story. Wish they had a option to finish the game without the blood cells requirement. Anyway thx a lot for the summary!! :) Keep up the good work!!!
thats the entire point of the game..... its repetitive and endless just like The Beheaded's deaths
@@Sitaramin I just wanted to know how the story ends tho.
i didnt expect those little lines on the level were gonna explain all the lore, i just thought they were random lines lol
Lol
Thank you! Finally a comprehensive video that answered so many questions I had for weeks.
Happy to hear it helped! Let me know if you have any more questions and I can try to answer them for you!
Thanks for watching! :)
Nice I just started playing Dead Cells yesterday.
I am to say, I am, impressed.
not just for you piecing together the story, but the game developers themselves.
Matpat has gotta piece this together too
That was a very good lore summary of dead cells.
Thank you for uploading. I cannot get past 2 Red Cells. I have played the game for 7 months. I am getting bored and the story is the only thing keeping me going.
Thanks for watching!
Believe me, I know the feeling, but you've made it further than me - I was stuck on 1 Red Cell... Hahaha.
If you want some tips, I'd be happy to share some! Feel free to reach out. :)
You should definitely remake this video including information from the bad seed as well as fatal falls dlcs, even info about the mining in the cavern was left out. Plus, some acknowledgment of conjunctivus, the coffin maker, and more specific lore rooms would be nice
Truly awesome work. Subscribed and looking forward to more of your videos.
Awesome! Thanks so much! Will be another one for Dead Cells coming out soon (hopefully)!
Greats vid as someone who loves this game great to see some focus on its lore
Thanks a lot, man! Happy to hear you enjoyed!
I was actually surprised there wasn't more stuff out there for this. Just an opportunity for this though, I suppose! Lol.
Hotline Miami and Dead Cells, Squatch never misses
Amazing story and I really liked how you presented it!
I enjoyed this game thoroughly. Only managing to defeat the kings hand after 2 years of play.
So much left to do, so much left to get good at.
Cant wait to return to the grind!
In some lore zones when the beheaded interacts with objects, the text box will have different colors, like red for anger, yellow/orange for reading another’s words or reading a note and etc. so he might have another problem there, either another mental condition or a side effect of his constant deaths.
I assumed that red was showing the brutality skill, purple for tactics, and green for survival. The skills usually correspond with what the king says
Part of me doesn't want to spoil the cool lore of the game for myself, but another part of my knows I'll never get good enough to see it all. I've been on 1BC for like a year
This is so, SO well put together ❤
Squatch messed up with the lines of "Starting a battle to see which of them is the stronger." quite interesting how it just rings in my ears.
watching this video feels like I'm doing a literary homework
YES! THANK YOU! After finishing 5bc and unlocking everything in the game, the only thing i was missing was a good summary of the story.
Thank you for this video.
Now Dead Cells is complete for you! Lol. Thanks for watching! Happy to hear I could help!
@@SquatchGamingChannel It'll only be complete when they stop making updates for it, which isn't the case, seeing as an expansion is coming in a month.
I totally forgot about that! Lol. Fatal Falls! I think I read that that's going to be their last bit of DLC.
Damn i was playing it yesterday and now this comes out
Uncanny coincidence, huh? Lol. Thanks for watching! Hope it helped!
I dont think is coincidence because happened to me too.its because youtube algorithm propably.science man is amazing.also this game is amazing and the storyxD
Man you are a hero. There was no way I could beat this game. I really wanted to know the story
Bold of you to assume that I can reach 5BC hahah
I cant even finish 2 cells
I'm proud of myself for having guessed the story just a few runs in after having made it past the clocktower and seeing the statue with the cheeky critique of the king's helmet!
Tbh, I thought you had to get the third cell from The Giant... I've been torturing myself for no reason.
Dont you need like the 2nd cell to even be able to fight the giant?
@@Kampfasiate Made an error in the post, mb
@@Kampfasiate nope
Aint gonna lie, this spoiled it for me. But I really don't think I would have looked into it anyway. such a great game.
Awesome vid man!!
The way he pronounces "panacea" physically hurts me. It's pan-uh-see-ah. Not "pan-aws-ea." Good lord.
Thanks for this, its really helpful for someone like me didn't understand the story of the game
Amazing video. This must have taken ages. Also, very strange pronunciation of Panacea.
Been playing on mobile and infuriatingly getting nowhere. Thank you so much for unlocking this lore for me, because lord knows I wasn't gonna make it by myself.
I can't follow up some of this game story because I'm always in hurry clearing every stage lol for achieving more cells
But damn this game hard asf
Been getting my butt kicked by Dead Cells lately, and now I can finally watch these videos! I really like how your quality is consistent; these videos are just as good as the newer ones!
I really hope we get a rematch against the time keeper as an alternative to the Collector. A new stage instead of Astrolab and an fight very different from the first time you fight her. Complete with lore rooms and such which explains or atleast hints to why everything changes every time you die.
Is there any lore which goes into the nature of the procedural generated stages?
Oh man, I play certain games thinking about how I wish you'd do a video on em...
Perhaps one day we'll get a lore exploration for Itta, Transistor, or Bastion (although the last two are a bit more forward in their story delivery, they're great tales that everyone should at least hear if not played)🤘
Keep up your stellar work!
I find myself looking for games that I can do videos on. Lol. I've heard of Transistor and Bastion, but never played them. They've been recommended to me though, so maybe it'll happen some day.
I've not heard of Itta before though. I'll have to check that one out!
Thanks for watching! :)
@@SquatchGamingChannel I'll try to recommend any cool, more cryptic Indies as they come along. Bastion and Itta are pretty short, but excellent story wise.
Thanks for the content ❤️
I'm don't mean to go off topic, but are you planning on putting the full story of Blasphemous in one video like you did for Hotline Miami?
I don't have any plans on it for now, but never say never! It could be something that's made some time in the future!
Thanks for watching!
I love Dead Cells in it's entirety. I've never gotten to BC5 so... having someone to narrate it is pretty cool. I'm still going to go for the end of course, and what with the new DLC... well it's gonna be a helluva trip. Thanks for the video.
I am still curious about the man behind the gate down at sewers. The one we flip off
there are some runs when you find him dead inside his prison cell, smashed by one of the teleporting coffins, i think. And his prison cell was full of teleporting coffins, so i can only guess that maaaybe he was working on a way to use those to escape, thus resulting in his invention(?) of the teleporting rune? Which we stole. :"D
Awesome video! Thank you for taking the time to record all of these moments for this lore video.
5 dislike is from concierge, time keeper, hand of the king, the giant and mama tick
thank you! i was legit wondering who would dislike this video and why..
makes sense..
now we wait for the full lore video with this ending and new info brought to light
Been waiting for a good story summary of this gane
I bet some people here only knew about this game because of the IGN Plagarism scandal from 2018.
Those are hints at the creature Conjunctivius who’s a boss you face after going through the Ancient Sewers.
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
@@SquatchGamingChannel I faced him multiple times, but I never imagined that it was him (regarding the size of that boss compared to the hole in the wall). Thanks for the info. :)
You really enjoy randomization, don't you?
Haha. It's a mixed bag. I think it has a place as a player.
Trying to get shots for this was a nightmare though. I played for like 3 hours one night to get a 15 second shot...
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this! I have 230h in this game, and I never took the time to piece together its disseminated story (though, to be fair, I'm a long way from reaching the true ending, being only at 2BC after almost three years of owning the game 😅)
Edit: NOT STUCK ANYMORE! I want to beat the story fair and square and experience Motion Twin's work firsthand after seeing how much I was missing out on
Well, that was disappointing..
now i like the game even more.... it's an awesome narrative, too bad that the average gamer (myself included) needs a lot of time and practice to achieve all that.... while keeping pace of the narrative in such a manner that you can sort all the details. Awesome work man!!!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO. I'LL BE MORE INTENTIONAL ABOUT THE GAME. 4 BOSS CELLS ALREADY, NOW I KNOW WHERE TO GET THE FIFTH ONE. THANK YOU!!!
I really enjoyed the lore of the game, though I suck at games, which is why I would never get to piece it all together on my own. Hence why I like these videos!
There is absolutely no way I'll ever finish this game during my natural life span so bless you for this video
Great as always
Happy to hear you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
That's going to be a while, most likely! I was thinking Hades, but we'll see!
