This popped up in my recommendations today after like 4 years since I stopped participating in the speedrun community. Wild to see that many ledge cancels in Clock Tower now, haha.
This pisses me off! I can't even use the shield properly and you do THIS! :D I am so impressed with the time you've put it to achieve this. And I love Dead Cells so much!
i love how at the beginning you can think "this guy isn't even that good he just avoids fights really well and moves really fast" and then he reaches the clock tower and all of that changes because now you have to have perfect movement and decision making to get through it quickly and it becomes incredibly clear how good he really is at the game like seriously starting at 8:10 everything becomes so clear, especially at 8:25 when he has like 10 milliseconds to decide to jump to a higher level, hesitate slightly to allow the enemies to take their actions, and then blow past all of them like they aren't even there. even just how he quickly deals with the enemy in the elevator right after is kinda jaw-dropping. and that's not even mentioning how he deals with the castle and the elites and the bosses
In DC in order to move fast you constantly need to think a few steps ahead. Make decisions that goes down the drain because you never know what's ahead. Its like a game of chess where you think a few lines and only use one of them depending on the opponents choices. The opponent being random map creation.
I believe when you use lightspeed, you activate it again to go back the other direction, and he timed hitting the "kill the king" option as he was going back. I can only imagine how many times I would mess that up 😂
i love it when he took that balanced blade till the end and the fact he just skipped the hand of the king is crazy bro literally speedrun the clock tower i take like 20 minutes to finish the clock tower damn
i played dead cells like 2 years ago and at that time it was impossible for me to complete a game under an hour, seeing this really maked me surprised, this is just amazing
It's kind of a long explanation on how it works, but basically what happens is that on patch 2.4, lightspeed is broken where if you use it ones and wait for 8 seconds, what happen is that the blue dash should turn back to the yellow/red one, for the cooldown is 8 seconds long, instead, on this patch it does do that, but it saves the second dash that you didn't use before. What this means is that you now have unlinked the skill and you'll be able to use it multiple times in a row, which, as you can see, totally breaks the game. :D
I was gonna ask why you didn’t need the symmetrical lance, but then I realized that HotK doesn’t put the forcefield around the king until you trigger the fight, and I guess it isn’t hard-coded into the scene. Props to the devs for realism I guess?
thanks :) currently over 29k :p most resets happen in the first 30 seconds though. still, i have well over a thousand hours into this one category alone, i reckon, if not much more.
What happened with the teleport at 6:47? Usually you get teleported outside but you went in and back out again. Seems like a video cut or something. Not calling you out or anything im just curious as it looked weird to me. Could just be a youtube or render issue
What is this forward dashing move? I never saw that. Is that a special move of this shield that you are carrying? oh and the ending...I dont get it! Why didnt you have to fight the king? Is that a glitch?
The dash works by tapping the shield button, in to a roll, which you hold down for the duration of the dash. It is actually really easy ones you get the hang of it. As for hotk, that is a glitch indeed. The way it works is kinda complicated, but if you want a explanation, just let me know here, and I'll try and explain. :)
The RNG is great on this run. There were some biomes that could've had a faster layout like ramparts or prisoners quarters, but overall a 9/10 I'd say. What could've been better if I was to get synergies on the build. This would make the fights a bit quicker, but this one wasn't bad either. I think it took me close to 35000 attempts for this run, and I'm still attempting runs regularly to try end get a sub 8 min time, though this is proving to be really hard.
Impressive!! One thing I’ve always wondered is how do you know where the exits are going to be? Because I don’t see you trying many paths before u find the exit
there are some hints that indicate what the correct path is. there is a guide on speedrun.com that goes into it in more detail, if you'd like to learn more :)
In this category, we always look for a balanced blade, for it seems to be the best overall choice from what's available from a fresh file, but anything can work really, boss fights and the elites on High Peak Castle only make up a relatively small part of the run, as long as you deal enough damage, it can be done fast with a lot of builds. If you meant weapons in the game over all though, there are so many strong weapons in the game currently, you'd do well just trying some out and finding what suits you best. Pretty much all weapons can be extremely strong if you just figure them out. :)
Mostly to help calm my nerves really. Talking to the corpse (right before the health fountain) are 8 torturous seconds where the nerves and shakiness really go crazy because you have 8 seconds to think about what's at stake. I have over a thousand hours and are closing in on 30K attempts currently in this category alone, so healing there, helps me get back in sync a little bit, if that makes sense.
you tab the shield button, immediately followed by holding roll. so, for example for me, i use a ps5 controller, so i swipe my thumb from triangle to circle. it's pretty easy ones you get the rhythm down. you can see my inputs on the top right btw, this might help figuring it out, but i doubt you'll need it because it's very easy :)
Nah, this is from a fresh save and you first need to unlock "custom mode" before you can set seeds. As for rng manip, there is none, all maps and items are predetermined, based on the seed. But I guess the setup I do for Time Keeper is sort of rng manip, but it requires a wolf trap, high enough damage and tight game play for it to be consistent, so I wouldn't call it a manip, more then I'd call it a strat. (basically the setup makes it so when you roll through, while she is in the wolf trap. If you deal enough damage, she will always move towards the left wall, when she breaks out of the first trap, straight into the other one, rooting her twice essentially, which obviously saves a lot of time over chasing her around the arena) Damn, I'm sorry for this homework text. I put so much time into this, that I'm always eager to explain stuff, excessively :D
Not to brag, but i finally beat the game (0bc) in about 1hour... yea, i know, i get told that it's pretty impressive... lol In all seriousness, grats man, 👏 i cant even do that in my dreams lol
When the level layout RNG is favorable, the shield doesn't save as much time as you might expect. Maintaining the full speed buff (by killing 8 enemies fairly quickly, then something has to die every 8/10 seconds or so, to keep it going) Take Promenade for example, with the shield you can exit in about a minute or so, skipping as much as possible, but with fire brands, throwing knives or any quick dot, one-shot weapon, you can actually be just as fast as the shield. Promenade is a good example because it's always the same-ish distance. ANYWAY :D to answer your question. I don't actually know what my shield-less pb is, but would guess I can get a low 9min run quite easily with a tiny bit of RNG cooperation ofc.
It's kind of a long explanation on how it works, but basically what happens is that on patch 2.4, lightspeed is broken where if you use it ones and wait for 8 seconds, what happens is that the blue dash should turn back to the original yellow/red color (because the window to use it again expires after 8 seconds), instead, on this patch it does do that, but it saves the second dash that you didn't use before. What this means is that you now have unlinked the skill and you'll be able to use it multiple times in a row, which, as you can see, totally breaks the game. :D
I have q to promenade of the condemned how does work that u can skip getting vine rune and instantly jump on platform ? Is there like hidden steos or stmhing and how you make assault ahield dash so long amor is it just smooth as ganeplay(ur really smooth xd )im stuck at 1 boss cell a d rly want to improve and do you have any tips on improving(i aslo dont like shields im scared that i miss parry)
Skipping the vine rune is kinda hard to explain. It involves a coyote jump (this is done by quickly pressing attack->jump at the last moment before you're about to walk off a platform), this essentially gives you an extra jump, follow this with a regular, well timed double jump, then for the ending you do what we call a samus roll, this can be done by pressing attack->roll in quick succsession. It will give you a horizontal straight roll. Note that both these (coyote jump and samus roll) do not work with every weapon. The way you can tell is by checking if the weapon has air-stall/hangtime, most of these weapons will do, for example Electric Whip or Throwing Knife, but not, for example Rusty Sword or Twin Daggers. Also, skipping vine is rng dependent. Sometimes (around ~40% of the time, if I had to guess) there's no structure high enough next to it for you to jump across from, and without extra jumps, these are unskippable. For those that are skippable, for about 70/80% of them, you need a speedboost to get across, for most of those, rhe small speedboost will get you dar enough, but for some, you need the full speedboost (so kill 5 enemies for the small, and iirc another 5 for the full speedboost) Now for the dash with Assault shield. This is very easy, you just tab shield and immediately hold roll for a second or so. I suggest looking at my controller overlay, to see how I time them (this is also helpful for the timings regarding vine skip btw). But I bet you'll figure it out in no time. I just swipe my thumb from the triangle button (shield) to circle button (roll). Tips to improve overall. Tbh, just play what you feel works for you. Don't feel pressure to unlock a whole bunch of stuff immediately. This will only make the weapon pool even bigger and more confusing, imo. Also put as many cells into the legendary forge as possible, getting higher level gear is huge. Hope this helps you out some what. :)
