Could you wear the Mosko Moto Ectotherm 12v beneath this jacket? Or will it be too cumbersome?
I crashed at 55MPH on coarse asphalt wearing this jacket. Trooper measured my slide at 65 feet. Zero road rash. Jacket was shredded and will need to be replaced but it saved me. It is an EXCELLENT garment!
I purchased the Alpinestar Halo jacket it that colour way back in July 22. Last year it covered 15,000 miles with a lot of riding throughout Wales so had its fair share of variable weather conditions thrown at it with the odd dirt-nap for good measure. Have put it through the washing machine with Nikwax Tech Wash and all the grime has been removed and the jacket is like new.
Here are a couple of take-a-way points missed:
1) With the off-set zips, it allows the front of the jacket to be shorter and makes life much easier & more comfortable when Adventure riding with the movement around the bike.
2) The kidney belt helps with a snug fit, keeping the protection in the right place.
3) Lack of back protector is a good thing as more options are available and I don’t feel cheated by removing a ‘standard offering’. I choose to use the Forcefield Prolite K CE-Level 2 as this helps with air-flow through the jacket verses a more solid protector.
4) One dislike is the DryStar shell jacket doesn’t have any reflective highlights unlike the main jacket, so wearing the shell over the Halo jacket during rain/reduced visibility makes you less visible!
Thank you
Definitely agree with back protection that should be included in the price
Great Video Ian, nice to see different jackets and gear!
Great review, really informative and great to hear comments, was waiting for another decent review since RyanF9 some time ago. Complete agree with the back protector comments, when paying out for a premium jacket.
Man, that is slick! Pretty pricy but quality gear usually is. Alpine Stars makes great stuff too! I wouldnt mind having one myself. The offset zipper is a but strange but like you said, you can get used to it the longer you use it. I like the airflow panels and removable sleeves. I would definitely want to try one on before I bought one for sure to see if I liked it. Good review Ian! I appreciate your honesty!
Great video, love the amount of detail and the demonstration of the features. Cool jacket
Much appreciated!
Great work!
I was waiting for this video before purchase the jacket (black) but bought it at the end of summer anyway. Love the look of it.
Only using it for street riding😅
hey Ian appreciate all that you do for the reviews of different riding gear! Gave me something to think about for my next riding gear !, 👍
Glad to help!
Ian being always as honest as possible! Gem ! Great review.
I try
I'm interested in the comparison of gear types: all-in-one (klim, MSR) vs layered (Mosko).
Keep up the great work Ian!
Coming soon!
I like the flourescent green on the waterproof liner to help being seen in the rain when it is worn over the jacket.
I would like to see more of these reviews, keep it coming. Thank you
More to come!
Keep the videos coming Ian
This jacket is quite a statement 👍 the Spidi mission T seems more logic in the layering principle. I go for the cheap layering system though. Mesh summer jacket with level 2 armour, a polar and light rain layer. Versatile and easy to store when not in use.
Very informative as always, definitely an interesting piece of gear. Do you think you'll be getting your hands on any of the new Leatt stuff?
Great review.
Have been waiting for your review of this jacket since Ryan Fort9 did a year or two ago. Appreciate your detailed analysis and experience. It ticks a lot of boxes for versatility.
Did Ryan not provide enough information on the jacket back then?
I find it valuable to hear multiple reviews on gear that I'm considering buying. Don't you?@@airadaimagery692
Keep the gear reviews coming!
Will do!
@@BigRockMotofunctional hot weather gloves is something that I’m looking for.
I'm all about MX under padding, knees and elbow. They stay put, makes top layer options more versatile. Hoody, flannel, rain coat... Just me though. Edit, on long rides on street use Icon summer jacket, even under a top layer.
I'm of a similar mindset. Going to look into getting a Revit Nucleus and just wearing that under other layers that way I have both mx armor and abrasion resistance
Right on
It is a truly beautiful jacket.
I have this jacket , agree with the front zipper comments, but open the front and rear vents, and plenty of wind goes through . You do get use to it, though, and it's damn good.
Yeah I own it too, the awkward zipper you get used to and is 100% worth the trade off for that huge and convenient front pocket and the massive airflow from the chest vent
Got it and love it ❤
I bought this jacket because of the fortnine video. Its my first motorcycle jacket. Its much better than the crap my local dealers carry. About to start my second sesson on it snd its done vsry well. I wear a breathable neck gator to deal with the weied front bib. It was very funny to when F9 came out with their own neck gator sortly aftet I got mine. I think the Jacket and the neck gator are connected.
I have this jacket and love it.
I have this jacket for around 6 months now. I paid 330 euros in a sale and its amazing. I rode the TET through most of Europe with it and it withstandend a few ditches. I just order the halo pants (250) to go with my jacket. I am full year rider, in rainy/cold weather. I have a full suit for 580 euros, and i hope i am done for the next 10 years.
A very innovative jacket..
I have the Bogotá pro and love it.
I looking for the Bogota too.
But I read the Safety in slip resistance isnt realy great. Is it?
Where do you leave the Water resist Upper Layer from the Trausers? Is there place in the Jacket? I see on UA-cam only the place for the Jacket in the Jacket.
English is not my Motherslang, excuse me.
I have it and am happy with it. Don‘t mind the offset zipper and I usually where a buff if I have the front panel closed. When it‘s warmer and I don‘t need both, the neck piece folds down with the panel.
I did buy the matching pants and they work- but I am by far not as happy with them, as I am with the jacked.
-> Check them out before buying. The jacket is way better, in comparison to the pants- but, you will get a waterproof line with them as well, so potentially I will buy mesh pants and keep the waterproof pants to wear over 🤷🏼♂️
Really enjoy using this jacket.
It being heavy and quite bulky is quite a downside for me personally when simply commuting - but otherwise it's great for adventure/touring.
It really is an all-season jacket imo. Summer in 40ºC has been ok, and you can layer up with an inner jacket/sweater of your choice for the cold, or even use the rain jacket as a wind breaker. With the vents closed you'll be extremely comfortable in there.
Storage is also extremely convenient - keeping your wallet/phone in the front pouch makes it super easy to access your documents/paying tolls/etc. whilst keeping all that important gear with you for rest-stops when touring.
The zipper is something you'll fidget with a couple times and eventually forget all about.
Thank you
This looks like a quality jacket, but I am very happy with my Tourmaster Intake Air Jacket that cost me 1/3 of the price (on sale) vs $500 USD for the Halo. The Intake Air isn't waterproof, but a Revit Nitric 3 H2O outer shell, that was less than $100 on sale, solved that shortcoming.
Absolutely agree about the spine protector not being included! At least with my Air Intake, I wasn't able to find the matching insert, so I ended up having to try a few different ones before I found one that fit properly - not a deal breaker, but definitely an annoyance!
The removable sleeves are a nice idea, I hope more brands make that style. The side zipper is a goofy choice, also how is the ventilation with sleeves on? Do they have zippers on them or no?
Hey Ian. I live in Bali. It’s 30 Celsius year round and humid. Do you think it will work in these conditions? Love the look of the jacket. Think it will be a great combo (on the desert x)
I love Alpinestars and have really only had their stuff besides rain gear just because they fit me best. I like the halo but I found the new Bogota Pro jacket a bit more comfortable and traditional looking but have that versatility
love the bogota pro
@@BigRockMoto hell yea! There isn’t a single good video of it on the internet I can find, so I’d love to watch you do a vid!
Nah I gave up on 4 seasons gears a long time ago. Either layering up if you ride in a wide range temperature( I have Klim Baja S4), or full goretex/waterproof gear if it’s cold and wet.
I'm with you
@@BigRockMoto For sure. Putting on and off a rain/wind stopper layer gets tiring after a while. A breathable jacket with a removable waterproof liner that you can wear on top is a handy combination during the hotter months but as soon as the weather gets below 25C/77F a Goretex/waterproof jacket is much easier to live with.
@@Taz368 it’s more like where I live it’s so humid and hot that marketed “breathable rainproof layer” simply does not work.(Goretex is trash in hudmid condition btw) Mesh is a must 3/4 seasons and only in Dec/Jan period I can use nonmesh gear. Mesh is king when it comes to airflow, at least until we have a “air conditoner” suit which I’ll be more than happy to splash my money on haha
Hey, thanks for posting the video. As much as I like f9, the hyperbolic style can be hard to parse.
I am frankly surprised it does not come with back armour as standard. Do you know if it requires the proprietary armour or if a d3o pad will work?
I'm a little at a loss for what to do about pants. I appreciate the heads up to skip the halo pants. I'd like something for highway riding and maybe for colder or wet weather. My situation is that I live in calgary, alberta, Canada. The weather is often dry enough to be able to ride into October and when it's 0 to 5 degrees c. The Andes gear set seemed most appropriate for the wet and cold and is available locally. I'm a new rider. Just got the bike at the start of last year. Any advice would be very appreciated.
P.S. upon further consideration, overheating is much more a problem for me than being too cool. The flexibility of the halo drystar is probably worth the premium.
Front pouch is the best thing about this jacket. Offset zipper is a nuisance Good review Matches my experience.
I’m considering this jacket. It is a lil rough in the eyes, I’m using a kilm induction jacket r:n and it’s really only good in the summer.
That is an interesting front zipper setup.
You forgot, or you didnt realize that the offset zipper improves the water resistance on the front of the jacket because the zipper doesn’t bunch up in the front when seated and pool water that then leaks into your stomach and crouch area. Very smart idea in my mind.
Best Jacket I ever owned and it is a true seasons jacket.....
It's such a bulky jacket but I want to love it. Ian have you worn the klim Marrakesh?
I think it does depend on the area you ride in. I ride in the U.K. so laminate is perfect where we have unpredictable weather.
I’ve got to like what I wear and the Alpinestar looks a bit of an acquired taste. I always prefer not having to carry around a waterproof layer.
Was wondering if you was going to come back to Bisbee in April?
All the proprietary expensive moto stuff cracks me up as do the pushers. I've owned everything under the sun... until I switched to a Bohn Armor shirt and pants. A puffer jacket a rain jacket and a riding jersey on top. Revolution race pants and rain pants on bottom. Done. Keep on shelling out the $$$$$ though guys to keep the machine turning. 😂
I’ve done 5500 miles in this jacket split fairly evenly between black top and everything else that can be ridden through and I’ve had no regrets about buying it. It is a little odd and goofy sometimes with the weird zipper placement. Stopping to throw the sleeves back on or change the configuration of the venting can be a little annoying as well, but you really can’t beat the level of ventilation you get with this thing while still maintaining armor and at least some slide protection. The amount of storage is ridiculous as well. I don’t ride with a backpack or any sort of luggage on my bike and I was able to bring the rain shell, a baseball hat, a pair of flip flops, the sleeves for the jacket, my wallet, ear plugs, chapstick, an extra long sleeve shirt, and a pair of sunglasses all stored within the pockets and compartments fairly comfortably. My only gripe is I wish the main shell of the jacket offered just a little water proofing for when you’re doing river crossings or massive mud puddles off-road and stuff like that. I ended up treating it myself with DWR, just for those quick showers you might get caught in and don’t feel like throwing the shell on, or getting splashed by your buddy off-road. So it was a cheap solution but if it came from the factory like that it’d be nice. But yeah if the odd look doesn’t matter to you and your riding season includes 3-4 seasons I’d recommend anyone to at least check it out. I love being able to comfortably still wear a jacket when it’s 90 degrees out and maintain some protection without sweating to death.
Thank you
I love my halo jacket 🤙🏼 Buy Once Cry Once
The jacket looks awesome. My Revit Trench GTX needs replacement so looking for a new jacket. The only thing I ask myself about this jacket is how does it perform in the colder days. My Trench has a Thermo liner that I can remove or place for when it's colder outside. Does anybody have experience with this jacket in the cold? maybe a good thermo vest wil be a solution but still other people experience are welcome. Thanks for the review awesome channel!! keep up the good work!!🤗
yes, with a thermal liner or mid layer it can be very warm
Seems this is a warm-hot weather jacket. Is there an under layer available to be attached when it's less 10 C outside? (I like that in my current jacket inner layer zips up and attaches nicely to the jacket)
Can you wear some type of thermal layer underneath the armour layer?
Would have been better without the giant Alpinestars emblazoned on the front.
And the back as well. I would expect to be paid to carry that much advertising on me.
I really really don't understand why CE Lvl1 is really still a thing and why the manufacturers haven't come up with a lvl3 or so. With modern technology it shouldn't be a problem for them to improve the level of protection while keeping the flexibility and breathability.
Looks like a Level III plate carrier
How is it for colder weather around 50°f and sub
How do you find the collar? Biggest complaint I've heard about that jacket.
It can be annoying when the top vent portion is closed.
Man, I just got one and I hate it. Going straight back.
I've owned mine for two years. : Like you, I didn't like the pants. I've reviewed this jacket on Web Bike World.
I’m a big guy don’t get me wrong (6’4”, 250), I usually wear XL or XXL in gear but I tried this one and it was waaaay to small, hel I even tried the XXL and the amount of layers made everything too bulky.
What size are you wearing in the video?
Good vid, don't like the front panel, looks too hot. Other looks good.
It's interesting, but quite ugly to me. I don't like the collar at all. Plus, I'd like to have pockets in the usual places. I'll stick with my MSR gear for now, also recommended by you.
Much as i appreciate innovation, there’s something just too ‘battlestar galactica’ about this piece. That astars bib just isn’t working for me.
Agreed . Goofy looking in my opinion
Agree if I saw someone in that jacket walking around and it didn’t say A stars I’d have presumed they joined some oddball religious cult.
Astars is some oddball religious cult. People religiously pay more for what is ultimately mediocre stuff just because of the name.
When fashion over function is higher priority.
To each his own. This is my first Astars gear and I love it. The big front pocket is so nice to have. I wear this jacket 90% of the year. On the really hot days or slow off road riding I like my mesh suit.
Great review. Level 1 armor that cannot be upgraded is a deal breaker for me.
I never understood why motorcycle clothing has to look so loud, billboard and like street sweeper uniforms?
I wear Knox as their products are very subtle and cutting edge.
Looks like cooking apron. :))
CE-1 armour?!? 😂
Interesting side zipper....hope pants don't have zipper offset...🤐🤐
Nope, if I'm dressing up like a power ranger I'm going all the way!
I'm I alone in thinking that jacket is ugly?
I couldn't watch it for more than 30 seconds. My eyes hurt.
$499.00
Pass!
Dang this review came too late for me. Had to buy something else
Five hundred dollars is ridiculous
I hate it lol
Alpinestars can FO!
Trousers opened up on a fall on ice. Gloves where the inner fingers pull out ehen wet. Cheap crap. Stay away!
You lost me at the price
Ugly color choice, too busy with the huge branding letters , if it was more subdued one color it would look better in my American eyes opinion.. maybe Europeans enjoy that .... all subjective I know.
Doesn't bleach in the sun and keeps you cooler rather than black.
This might be a great jacket but it’s frucking ugly!!!
F9 where’s one in his vids.
This has got to be one of the ugliest pieces of motorcycle gear I have ever seen.... I couldn't get past the looks, no matter how functional it is.
