I went to the grocery store with my wife the other day, and I HATE being around people, not like at metal concerts, that feels more like friends and family.... but at the grocery store, it was so packed, and I was so tired from work, my wife felt bad she dragged me there, so I put on my ear buds and cranked Gojira and Opeth, and Jinjer from my phone, and man... I FELT A LOT BETTER!!!...Everything was drowned out, from the music from the store, the people talking, kids screaming, the announcements, I felt so good and relaxed...I was happy...My wife said she could tell by the look on my face and how my mood changed. And when I see another metal head at the store, we look at each other, we smile and we raise the metal horns...doesn't matter if you're a man or woman...seeing another metal head, is like seeing a brother or sister.... we get each other. METAL HORNS to all of my metal brothers and sisters out there!

I've always been that long haired metal guy (that's how people refer to me anyway) that people at first find intimidating. But after first impressions, people have often said I laugh more than anyone they ever met and seem happier than most. Maybe there IS something to this study. They are also surprised to find that I am obsessed with Audrey Hepburn instead of typical Hollywood actresses. Just thought I'd throw that in there lol!

I've been a concert goer for over 30 years of many different genres. Metal concerts are by far my favorite. The most genuine and kind folks I meet are at these shows.

Although not a metalhead myself I love a lot of metal music... i love a lot of musical genres styles, artists and so on. Therefore I fully agree that music is a very important part of culture and society. I wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't listen to music anymore. Music makes me happy.

A normal happy person or a weird Inna 😜
Don't know what it is with metalheads, but until last year I did a week of charity work every summer where 500+ kids (in the better times around 1.200) aged 5-12 come to build and paint huts, play games, sports, etc, with a huge campfire of all the huts at the end. Really cool week, and fully relies on volunteers, both group leaders and the 'backstage' crew that me and my dad were a part of.
There's all kinds of group leaders there, (grand)fathers and -mothers offering up a week of vacation, teens who build huts when they were kids, etc. Also there's always a bunch of hardrock / metal fans, including long hair, piercings and a LOT of tattoos.
I didn't do a group myself, me and my dad were in charge of logistics, and because of that we walked around to hand out daily newsletters, ice cream, etc, and it was always clear to me when a group was led by rockers / metalheads. They allowed a lot and the kids were often playing with them (painting them, climbing on top of them, etc), and they really enjoyed it. But whenever they went serious the kids listened to them immediately, kinda like 'part of the group, but lead when necessary'.
Of course we had some issues every once in a while as well, one guy came when he was stoned, and another came when he was still drunk from the night before. The first one was told off and sent away by his friends, and the other we sent away ourselves getting a lot of compliments from the others, but overall I have great experiences with rockers and metalheads :)

there are different kind of metal. many dont like the vocal growls stereotype. But many can connect symphonic metal like Nightwish (especially with Floor Jansen, one of the world best singer, also outside of metal (she is maybe THE best role model for every singer at the moment, because she is a master of every aspect, from buldup to coloring, dynamic vibrator, fluent transition between head, chest, falsetto voices, different genres, planning of every detail till a single note, storytelling (real storytelling, not just attitudes 99% of singers have), state presents, best breath technics and so on). Actually Nightwish rather represents in many ways a kind of professonal Hollywood-Musical/Theatrical Metal project (because they are state of the art of music theory, music science, composing, best singing techniques, it also has one of the best drummers in the world and so on) - and there is a strong relation of Opera/Classical music to this genre. 'Ghost Love Score' of Nightwish was (and maybe still is) the most reacted music video on the planet. Rammstein, another often reacted band represents more 'industrial' (but also with some theatrical, classical, electronc aspects). Other stuff like Metallica etc. are likely more appreciated if one already digged a bit more into metal over 'bridging' bands like Nightwish (many Metal fans are not aware about such stuff but play brainless their favorite bands without knowing that ppl then often polite nod, pointing out that this or that is interesting - and then leave it behind) ...
