David Gilmour-dressed like he just arrived to fix your plumbing, crushing the greatest guitar solo of all time, and acting like it’s just a normal Wednesday. Absolute legend.
You captured the vibe better than I could. Doesn't he just look like everybody's dad out there, somehow casually reaching into another dimension with his guitar. Amazing.
Which one. Both solos are equally beautiful in their own right. The first solo does more for me than the second. In terms of technicality, the second is more impressive but for base emotion, the first solo has always spoke more to me.
I guess I will speak on behalf of everyone: THANK YOU for not pausing on the guitar solo. Stopping a David Gilmour solo is sacrilegious in the music world. Also, welcome to Pink Floyd. I refer to Pink Floyd as the truest form of art in rock music. Like painting murals in music form.
Eddie van Halen once said, "David Gimore is the benchmark of less being more. He has proven that shredding and fast playing is not the benchmark of mastery level. Gilmore never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit ... David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. Something that really is a testament of his talent as a guitar player".
Gilmour 😂 Seriously is the Gilmore an American thing as I'm sure I've had a few Americans saying that they know it's Gilmour but Gilmore a local / American thing.🍀👍
That is regarded by many as the greatest live guitar solo in music history and I'm so glad you did not pause it. Same concert...Sorrow, High Hopes, Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Coming back To Life...this entire concert is a masterpiece.
This guitar solo has been the gold standard since it was written, lots of people can play flashy stuff but to be able to move people's emotions with the guitar is top level musicianship
I honestly think it is harder to play a solo like this than it is to just shred out a ton of notes. Playing a solo with so much feeling and smoothness takes a LOT more skill than just being able to move your fingers fast. Gilmour is the master of this kind of solo.
I could comment about how well David Gilmour and Richard Wright harmonize. I could talk about how well they performed together on the song "Echoes," and that since Rick's death, Dave won't play "Echoes" anymore. I could blather on about how probably 35% of that audience may well have come to that show simply to experience Dave's second guitar solo there. I could pontificate about how Dave's biggest talent is his utter ability to -- not play, but *emote* -- with that guitar in his hands. I could go on at length about how how happy it made me to see you react as you listened... ...but no. All I can really say is that the most emotional part about this for me was seeing Dave Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason sharing a stage together, even if it was recorded nearly thirty years ago... and knowing that it can never happen again. We still love you, Richard, and we miss you.
I was about to correct you but I did the maths…it was 30 years ago 😮 Most memorable concert I’ve seen 🤩 Thks for sharing your thoughts in a beautiful way.
I get the peak Gilmour-Wright-interaction-conversation feels from "Echoes" at Gdansk. It's especially poignant given it was the last time the two were recorded together, as Wright passed away not long after that show. Gilmour has said he'll never play "Echoes" again because he just can't bring himself to without Wright.
You never went to a Pink Floyd concert to just "listen" to the music. The concert was a whole-body experience. I'm 76 and still listen to Pink Floyd often. It's my music.
On top of everyone thanking you for not pausing the guitar solo I want to thank you for being the only reactor I’ve seen to do the full non truncated version of the song. Thank you so much
Gilmour.... the man can do more with one chord than most other guitarists can do with the whole fretboard... His expression is unparralelled even today!
Good on you. My dad wouldn't lian me the $10 I needed to afford a ticket in 1989; I was working 2 great jobs and had a 3.5 GPA in high-school at the time.
Probably the greatest live version of the greatest guitar solo in rock history. It was such a treat that you let it play and we got to experience that with you. I've been listening to it for decades, and I tear up every single time.
Thank you for doing the review. I am 75 yrs old and this piece and David’s guitar solo always brings tears and a lump in my throat each time I hear it.
The look on your face during Dave's second solo is what we all feel, no matter how many times we hear this song. It is, as you describe, mesmerizing. Welcome to the family. You cannot fake the emotion this song brings.
Gilmour plays with such precision. He's not about flash or shredding. His guitar truly is a powerful voice in its own right. A rightfully legendary performance.
I wonder if he ever gets hyper self aware moments in the middle of playing, like "Oh shit! If I stop now and just stand there like Syd used to, what'll happen?"
Too right. David Gilmour doesn't need to blast up and down the neck to show his prowess. His strength is making his guitar sing for us, to tell a story, to bring out our emotions. He is THE expert at doing that.
I am 58 years old. My older brother Dave introduced me to Pink Floyd when I was around 7 years old. The best thing in my life. They have been with me for the entire journey. What a co-pilot !
It is an emotional rise...like the feeling you get when you are gonna cry being overwhelmed with something...rising up your throat to your head, feeling flushed, and feeling tears start...yeah, that feeling. I get it every time with that solo. Never fails...since I first saw them in concert 50 years ago!
For me its that just with..drugs. I know, i know. But that rising, ambigious feeling of excitment and anxiety, not one piece of music has been able to catpure that as well as comfortably numb has. Truly a masterpiece.
Thank you a thousand times over for playing the original/best/complete version of this masterpiece. Watching your eyes as this played said it all. Again, thank you. 👍
I would say the best version was the 2005 Live 8 concert where Roger Waters reunited with the rest of the band and we go to hear Roger and David play off of eachother like they did when The Wall came out. ua-cam.com/video/P_4uEaZQ2Kg/v-deo.html
I’ve been listening Comfortably Numb since I was at college in Taiwan. I remember playing the cassette tape back and forth on the part of this guitar solo. What a magical tunes….. I still have my eyes wet every time I play this song. I can fully understand that the hostess wanted to share her feelings on this great music, but i think she’s also afraid of spoil the integrity of this piece to pause it. You did the right thing dear hostess which shows you are a genuine music lover.
David Gilmour’s solos in this song are widely regarded as the finest in rock. His tone, precision, and emotion evoke emotions in even the hardest of hearts. He is a true master of his craft.
That is a masterpiece of music, and brilliant, perfect, expressive guitar phrasing by David Gilmour. I'm a 60 year old guitarist, and it still brings a lump to my throat, perhaps more so than ever, every time I hear. Wonderful to experience it with you.
I never got to see Pink Floyd, proper. But I feel fortunate to have seen Roger and David both play. Saw Roger play 'The Wall' at Wrigley Field in 2012. Absolutely amazing. Saw David play in Chicago, as well, a couple years later.
I took my 3 children to see Pink Floyd when they were preteens, knowing they would never hear a better band in their lives. They still remember it like it was yesterday.
I was blessed to be able to take my son to see David at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016 with my son in the 5th row of the pool circle, just right of center. That's 5 rows back from the stage. He's coming back in October this year. Same seats are $1,300. Second row seats are $2k. Guess I better start buying lottery tickets.
I never get tired of watching this performance! Pink Floyd's music, and more directly David Gilmour, are one of the main reasons I'm learning to play guitar. They are masters of the craft of creating music. I've heard it said, and rightly so, that Pink Floyd doesn't create music, they create atmosphere, mood and emotion. I love that! Great reaction Bethany! I hope to see some more of them on your channel. Enjoy this journey!
Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school here in North Carolina when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend and I at the time loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. My wife loved concerts as well during that time. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Our 4 adult children (28-33) are big fans of 70’s-80’s music like my wife and I are. It’s great, lol. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.
Song brings me to tears, EVERY TIME!! You cannot HELP but be just CARRIED by most all of Pink Floyd's songs....and, they each have different meaning for each person. They are SO AMAZING to me!!! Something to be EXPERIENCED! GREAT REACTION!!! ❤
This song comes from The Wall album, which tells a complete story. It is a beautiful song, but when heard in the context of the album it is even more powerful. The ultimate experience of hearing this song is during The Wall movie, which gives not only the musical experience, but the visual one as well. Watching it definitely helps understand exactly what is going on during the song, and takes it to a whole new level. If you have never seen it, do yourself a favor. I played the studio version of this song once for my girlfriend at that time, playing along with the cd on my guitar. I nailed the final solo, playing along note for note. She cried at the end.
This is a good reply here, if you haven't you should give the entire album a listen, and possibly even watch the actual DVD - it's kind of got it's shocking moments but it does really give this song a lot more meaning.
No, the ultimate experience of hearing Comfortably Numb is in a live performance of The Wall. The second best experience was hearing it live in these shows.
I was taken to Leicester Square by a friend and we sat in the middle of the cinema, at his insistence , circa 82 I’d guess ,It blew my mind , of the whole film and the music , and been a fan ever since
I'm a millennial and was only introduced to Pink Floyd in the late 90s by my step father and was hooked. 2nd generation classic rock listener and have never looked back. Absolutely the best guitar solo of all time!
This is my absolute favorite Pink Floyd song of all time, and David Gilmour is a musical genius. That solo is incredible and just reels you in. I'm so glad you chose to do this piece!!!
I was one of them that evening. My daughter's birthday 19 years to the day before her birth .926am 20/10/2013.. CONCERT OBVIOUSLY 94. They done 15 at Earls Court in 21 days at £25 a head. The Stone's done a farewell tour roundabout then. £100 a ticket. So against all their managers and financial advisors advice. I,m pretty sure Gilmours Concept of transporting an inch by inch scale Replica of The Hollywood bowl and the lighting 100,s of staff 100,s of truck's worldwide. Could have left them penniless. By the way, I,m just a Scottish 50 year old Floyd fan. Admittedly, still dabble in the dark arts🙄😤😁. Still big gigs every year . So maybe ask Google. But I THINK it raked in about £1 billion. Costing about a quarter of that.I may be well wrong. As I don't Google. It will be the end of Free thinking. I,m Wullie, talking Gibberish in Glasgow. So thank you very much indeed Good morning. 💥💥🎆🎇🎉❤✌️🙏
If this is Earl's Court then so was I , had a great seat about 30 - 40 yards from the stage on the left hand side as you look at the stage. The first and only time I saw them , was with about 8 friends , it was truly a magical night. Came out of the gig , completely.... Mind blown . A... Maze...ing ! (And yes, I realise that's not how you spell amazing 😉) I went on the second night , if I remember rightly there was a slight accident on the first night with some seats collapsing . I don't think anybody was badly hurt.
Hi - I am a classically trained tenor, and I am largely a self taught guitarist. Now that the perspective BS is out of the way, I can say that I can recall hearin this song on the radio for the first time you're back in 1979. I had been playing guitar for 1 year, at best, after having had several years of violin and piano lessons, with which I did well. I had already heard music by Led Zeppelin, black sabbath, the eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. I was not ready for what David Gilmore had in store for me, even though I had heard Pink Floyd's earlier releases and, as a budding guitarist, I was mesmerized by all of that music. Listening to the bands execution of that live version of comfortably numb brought back memories and elicited a massive display of Goosebumps all over my arms. Watching this young lady's reactions to this music enhanced those Goosebumps, but her excitement over this music renewed in me the hope that appreciation for such wonderful works as comfortably numb is not in danger of being left in the proverbial dust. Thank you, my dear, for your passionate assessment
The genius of David Gilmour is sought after by the music world...Unmatched by no one...Simply astounding! I have heard this song hundreds and hundreds of times...Each and every time it moves me....!
I find it hard to believe this is even genuine. How the hell can anyone work in the music business, unless you're a kid, claim to have never heard this song in any capacity? It's like working in the music industry and claiming you've yet to hear "Bad" by MJ. It's just one of those songs. If anyone has any musical depth to them, they just know these songs. Even most people with little or no interest know these songs if you're past a certain age. I mean, i can't stand classical music, yet still know music from Mozart if i heard it. Nor can i stand Nirvana, yet would still recognise "smells like teen spirit".
I remember an episode of The Daily Show where Jon Stewart stated, "Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band of all time!" . . . . . . . . . "is an opinion". I could not help but feel that it was also his personal opinion. As for this video, it's nice that she is hearing this song for the first time and I find it to be somewhat fascinating - as in, I wonder how big the rock was that she was living under - this video does not in any way require her commentary. I can't wait until she discovers "Echoes", or "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". I'm not going to actually listen to her making a bunch of comments about it.

Im a 53 yr old bloke from the uk and my father died recently. I didnt cry for that (stiff upper lip you know😅) This performance does it every time. It takes me away from life and the chronic pain i live with and transports me away and at peace
From India. Grown up listening on loop. 45 now and still gives me goosebumps literally. Music is a gift to mankind. Cherish it till u r alive. Pink floyd is one of those bands. Heightens ur experience of living life
Richard Wright on keyboards and intro vocals sets the tone but David Gilmour's vocals and trademark mesmerizing guitar solos take you to a place of unimaginable beauty. Thank you for opening the Pink Floyd door Bethany! They are so marvelous!
Every guitar 🎸 wants David Gilmour for Christmas… David has a way of pulling and tugging at your heart strings. One of the greatest guitar solos EVER! I was fortunate enough to see them live on this tour. PF is an experience… truly amazing!
I was lucky to be at Pulse in 1994. You should know he laid that down at the end. By that time we were already emotionally spent. When I looked around there were plenty of people with a tear in their eye. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this masterpiece. Wish you were there. 💜
I would have been, as well and I enter my 8th decade in London next year. I saw PF debut DSOM @ Earls Court with 18,000 others in 1973. It has suddenly occurred to me that I have seen "PULSE" endless times but where was this? Earls Court?
Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd. There has never been anything quite like them, never anything as musically amazing in their ability, range and the way they can take you on the most incredible journey. David Gilmour on lead guitar just simply makes that thing sing, and this particular song and guitar solo are among the best of all time. If you haven't heard too much, then I can only suggets you take the journey and brink us along with you, we love your analysis.
As a prog rock fan, mostly old Genesis, I feel like I SHOULD like Pink Floyd more than I do. I love Wish You Were Here, but Comfortably Numb, at least for me, overshadows every other song of theirs. Heck, almost every other song on the planet. It almost feels like a waste of time to listen to any other song of theirs!
I've said it many times, and I still stand by it: There's Pink Floyd, and then there is everyone else. It's neither fair nor reasonable to compare them with anyone else. I was lucky enough to see this tour live when they came to Atlanta. I've been to 200+ concerts in my life, and there is not another one that has even been close to the energy and excellence as that one. It was truly an experience I'll never forget.
@fitless As this is your first visit, Thank you, and welcome to the You Tube comments section! You will find this area useful for sharing your opinions on the video you have just watched. Enjoy!
Great band, great song, great concert! If you haven't already, watch the whole show. It was a show that remains in the history of the rock genre, and of music in general. Such bands will not appear again. Thank you for everything you do here, and greetings from Romania! 🤟🤟
If you haven't yet, check out; "The Great Gig in the Sky" from the same concert or the original from Dark Side of th Moon album. The vocals are insane.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love your channel and I was soooooooo afraid you would break the ABSOLUTE cardinal rule of reactors, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER interup a David Gilmore guitar solo. I loved seeing you completely caught up in this amazing piece of music. This entire concert, of which, I have on the Collectors edition DVD is an absolute perfect work of art. Do yourself and please us a HUGE FAVOR, and react to more songs. Thank you for this wonderful reaction! ❤️🎸🎵🎶
I was there, and the whole concert was mesmerising. They finished with Run Like Hell, but nobody wanted to run anywhere, they just wanted it to go on all night.
@MrJonah53 I was there as well. Pink Floyd finished the Pulse tour with 12 nights in Earls Court, and I was there for 3 of the 12 concerts, including the night they filmed the shown concert. One of the highlights of my 6 month stay (work project) in London.
@@donhanlon7121it was originally recorded on Digital Betacam at 4:3 aspect ratio. It's been upscaled and cropped to 16:9, but there's only so much you can do with video tape. Gilmour said he regrets not using film.
Adventures in a Yorkshire landscape, by be bop deluxe, on the live in the air age album is one of my favorites. Give it a listen! Different than a Gilmore solo but equally amazing.
I had the privilege of seeing Pink Floyd in concert in my home country, this song has alway been a favourite, but seeing a feeling everything was an epic experience. Dave's guitar solo is just freaking awesome as alway. This band rocked!!!
It does my old heart good to see young people enjoying the music of my generation. Because one doesn't merely listen to Pink Floyd. One EXPERIENCES Pink Floyd. Your smile speaks volumes. Welcome aboard.
Pink Floyd are the undisputed God's of Live performance. This entire concert is studio quality. All of the lights and special effects are highly choreographed to maximize and amplify the emotion in the music. They want every audience member to have a visceral experience. There will never be a band/artist that can surpass Floyd.
I adore Pink Floyd, but some - myself included - would say that an ideal live performance is not just a reproduction of what is on the record, but is instead wildly different from the record, full of improvisation. I mean, if you want to just hear the record, who needs the band? Just put the record on, start the lights flashing , and let the band stay home with the wife and kids. I mean, absolutely no offence to Pink Floyd or their music when I say this; David Gilmour is one of my top three guitar heroes. However, it’s not because he sounds exactly like he does on the record - quite the opposite. I love the improvisation in his solos. Now that he’s a solo artist, he does much more improvisation, and, in my opinion, is much more enjoyable to hear and watch. Greatest live band ever: Blue Öyster Cult. No guitar solo is ever the same. No keyboard solo is ever the same. The drum patterns are different at every show- particularly in their golden years, between 1973 and 1981. Rock ‘n’ roll is not meant to be as Symphony Orchestra, in which each musician consistently adheres to the sheet music every night; it’s meant to be an emotionally charged, of-the-moment phenomena.
I was lucky enough to be at Earls Court in '94 .The whole experience was amazing both aurally and visually. I couldn't stop talking about it for days afterwards. I still get goosebumps when I watch the video.
@@mikeducas66Dead? Not so much. I'm a musician, songwriter and musicologist and I think I inow what I say. I forgot to add that P. Floyd is an empty music that just goes nowhere. I guess is the perfect group for the pretentiousness of some people to be shown. Sorry for my english.
Seeing that song performed live is a truly visceral experience. I get goosebumps from that second guitar solo every single time. Glad you enjoyed it so much 😊
David Gilmour proves that it's not how many notes you can play, but how many things you can say with a few. All his solos, and compositions are tasty no matter the tempo. Well done.
Okay. You mentioned lighting. This concert is the greatest live music lighting design ever made. I know, as I am a lighting designer for live music myself. When you are out of ideas, or just need a fresh impulse to draw from, you watch Pulse by Pink Floyd and you're good to go! And this song is and will always be in my top 5 songs ever made.
You also mentioned the soothing mood set by the song. This is related to the subject revealed by the lyrics; a first person narrative of a performer encountering a "Dr. Feelgood" ("that'll get you through the show"), and the addictive better living through chemistry trip that follows ("there is no pain; you are receding"). The combination of musical and lighting genius capture this perfectly for anyone who has been treated with modern general anesthetics. Of course the subtext reaches well beyond into escapism of all flavors and the related detachment from humanity.
They had 2 full lighting/sound rigs and crews for this tour, it took over a week to assemble and set up, so whilst they were playing one venue, the other rig and crew would be travelling ahead to set up the next venue.
Gilmour's guitar playing is just so powerful such that you feel it in your soul, and his vocals are the same. There is just something so beautiful about his vocals it is impossible to describe. I enjoyed your reaction, and happy for you to enjoy this incredible song.
Hi, I'm French and I saw this tour on July 18, 1989 in Marseille (Velodrome stadium) in France. I was 19 and it was the most magnificent concert experience of my entire life. I've never experienced that again, ever. It was... um, an atmosphere, crazy, psychedelic, magnificent... And so much more... Thank you for making me relive this moment.
Your face said it all during the solo. Shamefully, as a guitarist I only happened across this live version clip a couple of years ago. Yes, the same as you, toward the end of the solo I suddenly realised that I had forgotten to breathe. It is literally breathtaking. Overall, absolutely hypnotic. You understand, therefore I sub.
The wide shots of the audience are amazing. Unlike most songs at a live concert, the crowd is standing almost motionless, in complete awe, letting that perfect song just wash over them, mesmerized by the beauty of blending music, lights, and a guitar solo that pierces deep into the soul. Near religious in nature .
Bethany, what I love about your reaction videos is that you bring such a beautiful and unique perspective to songs many of us know and love VERY much. It’s fascinating to have a new take on something that’s blown my mind, captivated me, and made me emotional too for many years. Thank you.
What a totally immersive experience. When the audience thought they were standing under a giant disco ball, they had their minds blown even more, when it opened up in the lead-up to the final crescendo. The view at the end, from the back of the auditorium over the entire scene was magical. The music alone was mesmerizing, but the visuals added a level beyond anything I'd ever seen, before or since.
Great reaction Bethany. Now comes the mandatory requests for "The Great Gig In the Sky". I think it would be awesome if you did a double reaction to the original and then the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour performance in Pompeii. A little explanation is that it is a man, who is going to pass soon, going through all the emotions associated with his impending death.
So happy you loved this. For those of us that missed seeing it LIVE, the PULSE DVD concert is one of the greatest experience out there and encourage you to see it. If you do another one from the PULSE concert, I'd recommend checking out Sam Brown and the ladies singing on Great Gig in the Sky.
I have not read any comments below and this is my first time viewing your reactions, paused it...WOW right. You are having a surreal, once-in-a-lifetime experience is what your expression is conveying. Great to witness this moment for you!🎶🎶💕💕
I am surprised that you are reacting to this song and not the most iconic vocal performance of pink floyd "the great gig in the sky". Remember that it must be the studio version. I know that you will be completely astonished. Thanks for a lot of joyful reactions.
I was there with my Dad and my brother in law. It was hypnotic and transendental and it changed my life. The best live show I've ever seen and it stayed with me my whole life. I got to see what is arguably the best live guitar solo ever recorded.
As nice as watching this performance video is it cannot hold a candle to experiencing Pink Floyd do this song live. You are literally surrounded and enveloped by the sound and feel each note pass through your body. It was an otherworldly experience.
This was recorded well after their vocal peaks. They've brought in some young help to bolster their weak spots, but they are still strong, in step, and unified. This is a band with scars that in many ways is better than their youth. And the way they use instruments as emotional voice: incredible!
On the other hand, Gilmour sounds disinterested vocally in a lot of the live performances from the band’s “peak” between the Dark Side of the Moon and the Wall. He’s older here. But he also sounds like he cares deeply about the music again.
I subscribed just for your continuation of letting David’s solo nonstop, that’s a good reaction from you knowing when to stop and when to continue. You could see you felt it in your heart ❤️ haven’t we all. Thanks for the reaction.
I've been blessed to attend hundreds of shows. Pink Floyd is THE greatest live show I have ever witnessed. There are countless things going on in that production, musically, lights, visuals, etc. No one person is above the other. They all work together to produce this absolutely incredible show. It's just amazing.
I would love to see you react to Pink Floyd -The Great Gig In The Sky. The story behind the original studio version is worth a read and is my favorite version, but the "Pulse "live performance is amazing to see. It doesn't matter which version you watch, I know it would be a great video.
I love that she got goosebumps at the beginning of the guitar solo outro. She's hearing it for the first time. I've heard it a million times and get goosebumps... every time.
I love seeing the expression on people's face when they watch/listen to this for the first time as that ball starts to open up. At that point they are completely mesmerized by the guitar solo and then that happens! One of the iconic live performances of all time. As a vocal coach you have GOT to listen to "The Great Gig in the Sky" live by them. You will be astounded.
Amazing.
And the drummer has to get home and help his son with his homework. Lol
When you have the chops .... you don't NEED fancy clothes .... that Stratacaster says everything we need to hear!
Don't need flashy clothes, if you have awesome talent.
Nick Mason looks like has come straight from his job at the bank to do the gig . No need for stage clothes or hair dye for these huge talents !
For me, this is the greatest guitar solo ever done. Period. I cannot watch this without tearing up. It’s perfection.

@kgunitkeese17: That''s what I registered... that she did not stop while David Gilmour solo... she couldn't because she was spellbound.

Gilmour gets more emotion in one note than other guitarists get out of a whole minute of shredding. Deep respect.

And that's the best singing in the song David Gilmour makes the guitar sing.

That is regarded by many as the greatest live guitar solo in music history and I'm so glad you did not pause it. Same concert...Sorrow, High Hopes, Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Coming back To Life...this entire concert is a masterpiece.
Love this one but prefer A Delicate Sound Of Thunder more, better 2nd half of the solo for me! 😉
@@GodlikeLFC97 Thank you! I do think DSOT is better than PULSE. Although I think Is There Anybody Out There is the best version.

I feel like Comfortably Numb's solo is super overrated
same here bro!@@GodlikeLFC97
This guitar solo has been the gold standard since it was written, lots of people can play flashy stuff but to be able to move people's emotions with the guitar is top level musicianship
I think it’s also what every guitarist inspires to be able to play
Musicianship trumps fretboard gymnastics!
You are more correct than you'll ever know.
These two guitar solos, you mean? Both are outstanding in their own right.
I honestly think it is harder to play a solo like this than it is to just shred out a ton of notes. Playing a solo with so much feeling and smoothness takes a LOT more skill than just being able to move your fingers fast. Gilmour is the master of this kind of solo.
Tears during a David Gilmour solo are not uncommon. His guitar is more than an instrument, it's an extension of the soul.
As a teardrop falls gently to the floor a new Pink Floyd fan is born.
So very glad to hear that I am not the only one :chuckles:
You aren't the only one!
I'm not crying! You're crying!
yes I got torn up in the year as a young buck and went to see the wall.We all have been there with our heros
You never went to a Pink Floyd concert to just "listen" to the music. The concert was a whole-body experience. I'm 76 and still listen to Pink Floyd often. It's my music.

LSD was integral part of the experience.
You may be 76 my friend but I have been listening to Pink Floyd since 1976, lol
You have witnessed a perfect rendition of the most perfect guitar solo in music history!!!!
Probably the best guitar solo in a live performance ever. Goosebumps.
well, he did practice them for hours - so hardly spontaneous
Try Eric Clapton's solo on Spoonful from Wheels of Fire. My #1 solo ever

Two beat solos actually
Try Guthrie Govan's solo in Steven Wilson's song Drive Home. Similar but even more goosebumps for me. This song is definitely a classic however!
On top of everyone thanking you for not pausing the guitar solo I want to thank you for being the only reactor I’ve seen to do the full non truncated version of the song. Thank you so much
Experiencing Pink Floyd live was one of the greatest moments of my 6 decades of life.

Joint number one with my first Queen gig for me, but very different experiences . Both at Wembley Stadium.
Gilmour.... the man can do more with one chord than most other guitarists can do with the whole fretboard...
I am 75 yrs old and this piece and David’s guitar solo always brings tears and a lump in my throat each time I hear it.
ditto, same here, and I am 74, this song is on my funeral playlist 👍
The look on your face during Dave's second solo is what we all feel, no matter how many times we hear this song. It is, as you describe, mesmerizing. Welcome to the family. You cannot fake the emotion this song brings.
Gilmour plays with such precision. He's not about flash or shredding. His guitar truly is a powerful voice in its own right. A rightfully legendary performance.
He will admit himself, his fingers are too fat for all that. That's why you get more heart and soul from him and not a bunch of tricks 😉
“David Gilmour can do more with one note than most other guitar players can do with the whole fretboard” - Dave Mustaine
She feels it too. She’s beautiful
David Gilmour is absolutely the best guitarist to ever Grace the stage. This is the all time best solo in my opinion.
Definitely up there with Jimi and Jerry g to me
One of the best , no doubt. But maybe not the best.

Never heard of man called Jimmy Page? Lauded by many as the greatest lead guitarist & riff creator above all.
Jimmy Page is a different genre of music than David Gilmour. He is a great guitarist but I put Gilmore above him. Just my opinion.

For me its that just with..drugs. I know, i know. But that rising, ambigious feeling of excitment and anxiety, not one piece of music has been able to catpure that as well as comfortably numb has. Truly a masterpiece.

I’ve been listening Comfortably Numb since I was at college in Taiwan. I remember playing the cassette tape back and forth on the part of this guitar solo. What a magical tunes…..
Pink Floyd were never just a band, they were essentially an audio/visual experience.
It doesn’t matter how many times I hear this and watch Gilmore play, I get shivers every time!
That solo still gives me chills every time. Not fast, not overly technical but so much feeling, brings a tear to my eye as well! Thanks for the video.
The look on your face of shock and awe during the instrumental 2nd half of the video was priceless. This song is at the pinnacle of rock !!!
One of these pieces where it's simply impossible for me to listen just to one song. The Wall is not just a collection of songs, it's one track.

Congrats on finally discovering the greatest band of all time.
I remember an episode of The Daily Show where Jon Stewart stated, "Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band of all time!" . . .

Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd.

@@EdDunklemost are yes, this lady is genuine tho.
Yep, I was there the night this was recorded and can confirm this is 100% true.
You are absolutely right!

It is. Will never forget it. Pulse tour was insane.
Yes, the light shows at Pink Floyd concerts are spectacles in themselves.
They had lasers not seen outside labs. The most amazing live experience ever. A 70mm projector. And a band that never stagnated
Best live guitar solo ever.
The whole Pulse concert was epic.
Beautifully said! Awe is the right word...
Ironic, that they listen to the wall in awe. We have all grown up haven't we?
"The Great Gig In the Sky" is a must.
Yes! Do yourself a favor and listen to the album version of Great Gig in the Sky.
I prefer the Pulse version... *duckandcover*
@@earnestbass4092me too. Sam Brown nails it..
First listen should be album version so then you can appreciate the live version.
Sound of Music
Well done Fret.....
The amazing pudding of Pinkfloyd
Honestly how can someone listen to this particular version of this song and not think it is the GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME??!!
This was recorded well after their vocal peaks. They've brought in some young help to bolster their weak spots, but they are still strong, in step, and unified. This is a band with scars that in many ways is better than their youth. And the way they use instruments as emotional voice: incredible!
Agree with your comments. The more mature voices bring something very touching to the performance.
On the other hand, Gilmour sounds disinterested vocally in a lot of the live performances from the band’s “peak” between the Dark Side of the Moon and the Wall. He’s older here. But he also sounds like he cares deeply about the music again.
Roger Waters did the original vocal, which is why it sounds very different.
Great reaction- thank you for sharing it. It’s always a pleasure seeing a first-time reaction to this iconic piece and your expression said it all!
Pink floyd isn't just a band, it's a religion ❤
Totally! ❤
Agreed 100%.
Absolutely!
It was even better watching it live. The videos really don't do justice to the effect in the room when that mirror ball lit up. Just wow!
Iconic performance of a legendary song. It gets better every time you watch it. Nice analysis - cool that you enjoyed it.
