David Gilmour-dressed like he just arrived to fix your plumbing, crushing the greatest guitar solo of all time, and acting like it’s just a normal Wednesday. Absolute legend.
You captured the vibe better than I could. Doesn't he just look like everybody's dad out there, somehow casually reaching into another dimension with his guitar. Amazing.
And the drummer has to get home and help his son with his homework. Lol
When you have the chops .... you don't NEED fancy clothes .... that Stratacaster says everything we need to hear!
Don't need flashy clothes, if you have awesome talent.
Nick Mason looks like has come straight from his job at the bank to do the gig . No need for stage clothes or hair dye for these huge talents !
For me, this is the greatest guitar solo ever done. Period. I cannot watch this without tearing up. It’s perfection.
Which one. Both solos are equally beautiful in their own right. The first solo does more for me than the second. In terms of technicality, the second is more impressive but for base emotion, the first solo has always spoke more to me.
Rick Beato does an excellent analysis of the guitar solos
Fat Old Sun live in Gdańsk is even better in my opinion.
Me Too!
@@HarmanatorNYCBeato is a wanker. Sorry, had to say it.
I’m a 68 year old man and I still get emotional with that solo. Bravo Mr Gilmore
Mr. Gilmour*
I'm 35 and I believe when I'm 68 I still will be getting emotional with that solo. At least, for the last 10-15 years it's been working this way.
@@karabardin :) 67 everytime :)
Same age, same reaction, same Bravo Mr Gilmore. 😄
I'm 55 and it's the same for me. Just watching the music taking over is so awesome!
THE AUDIENCE IS STUNNED
as is the reactor!
I've heard this song 1000s of times. It still gives me goosebumps.
Every time.
It is not a song, it is part of a story.
Always
It's even more amazing whilst coming up on a massive consumption of mushrooms 🍄
Every single time!
I guess I will speak on behalf of everyone: THANK YOU for not pausing on the guitar solo. Stopping a David Gilmour solo is sacrilegious in the music world. Also, welcome to Pink Floyd. I refer to Pink Floyd as the truest form of art in rock music. Like painting murals in music form.
@kgunitkeese17: That''s what I registered... that she did not stop while David Gilmour solo... she couldn't because she was spellbound.
Spot on… I was thinking, if she pauses this …I’ve lost faith in the future generations
I think there are laws in place for that sort of thing - if not there should be
Gilmour gets more emotion in one note than other guitarists get out of a whole minute of shredding. Deep respect.
Damn Skippy!!!
Im a 53 yr old bloke from the uk and my father died recently. I didnt cry for that (stiff upper lip you know😅) This performance does it every time. It takes me away from life and the chronic pain i live with and transports me away and at peace
Mr Dunkycraig Sending you much love and light from Sydney.
It was me and me da tune...😢everytime I hear it alone tears are shed...when it comes on I leave the room
Congrats on finally discovering the greatest band of all time.
Experiencing Pink Floyd live was one of the greatest moments of my 6 decades of life.
Me too. My first concert. I have goosebumps just typing this. They are awesome
First concert here too@@bostonbri1299
Joint number one with my first Queen gig for me, but very different experiences . Both at Wembley Stadium.
Gilmour.... the man can do more with one chord than most other guitarists can do with the whole fretboard... His expression is unparralelled even today!
Good on you. My dad wouldn't lian me the $10 I needed to afford a ticket in 1989; I was working 2 great jobs and had a 3.5 GPA in high-school at the time.
This guitar solo has been the gold standard since it was written, lots of people can play flashy stuff but to be able to move people's emotions with the guitar is top level musicianship
I think it’s also what every guitarist inspires to be able to play
Musicianship trumps fretboard gymnastics!
You are more correct than you'll ever know.
These two guitar solos, you mean? Both are outstanding in their own right.
I honestly think it is harder to play a solo like this than it is to just shred out a ton of notes. Playing a solo with so much feeling and smoothness takes a LOT more skill than just being able to move your fingers fast. Gilmour is the master of this kind of solo.
Watching your facial and body reactions to David's guitar solo tells me you feel what I do each time I hear it.
The most absolute underrated guitarist of all time.
Shut up dude your just too young to know
Underrated, what, Gilmore and especially this solo are considered the best of all time.
haha....underrated....good joke.
No way underrated, everyone not living under a rock knows he's at the least top 20 guitarist on the planet
Not underrated and definitely not overrated.
Nobody ever has or ever will play like David.
Tears during a David Gilmour solo are not uncommon. His guitar is more than an instrument, it's an extension of the soul.
As a teardrop falls gently to the floor a new Pink Floyd fan is born.
So very glad to hear that I am not the only one :chuckles:
You aren't the only one!
Probably the best guitar solo in a live performance ever. Goosebumps.
well, he did practice them for hours - so hardly spontaneous
Try Eric Clapton's solo on Spoonful from Wheels of Fire. My #1 solo ever
Texas flood - El mocambo - Stevie Ray Vaughaun.
Two beat solos actually
Try Guthrie Govan's solo in Steven Wilson's song Drive Home. Similar but even more goosebumps for me. This song is definitely a classic however!
It does my old heart good to see young people enjoying the music of my generation. Because one doesn't merely listen to Pink Floyd. One EXPERIENCES Pink Floyd. Your smile speaks volumes.
Welcome aboard.
I'm a millennial and was only introduced to Pink Floyd in the late 90s by my step father and was hooked. 2nd generation classic rock listener and have never looked back. Absolutely the best guitar solo of all time!
David always hits that PERFECT note. One of the greatest guitarists of all time! ✌ More Floyd Please! 🤞
And the tone he gets! Exceptional.
You can always recognize Gilmour’s guitar sound! No one plays like him. Just unbelievable.
Not really knowing Pink Floyd is like not realising that the earth isn’t flat
@TBeatles67 I hear David's influence in Adam Jones' (TOOL) guitar playing. Adam was in high school when "The Wall" was released.
I agree absolutely!
You never went to a Pink Floyd concert to just "listen" to the music. The concert was a whole-body experience. I'm 76 and still listen to Pink Floyd often. It's my music.
Same feeling cruising the back roads drinking a beer and burning one.
The car floats along..
Best Regards Sir! Keep going...way to live
The 70s were awesome ❤
There's a reason that solo is considered by many to be the greatest guitar solo of all time. It's not technically difficult. It's not fast, flashy, or distorted. It's slow, simple and searing - like pain itself. It captures and the essence of dissociation from unbearable agony through chemical means. It expresses the detachment and melancholy of mind numbing intoxication.
To know Gilmore's solo and Waters lyrics is to know that drugs bring only detachment. Detachment and alienation. Another powerful song about overwhelming pain and disassociation is Radiohead's "How to Disappear Completely":
I'm not here...
This isn't happening...
In a little while...
I'll be gone...
FWIW, This is solo was inspired by Gilmore: ua-cam.com/video/8wFnVlIdj7c/v-deo.htmlsi=d2L67VdvnMBPC8d8&t=249
Pink Floyd: by far the best concert one can ever see.
That is regarded by many as the greatest live guitar solo in music history and I'm so glad you did not pause it. Same concert...Sorrow, High Hopes, Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Coming back To Life...this entire concert is a masterpiece.
Love this one but prefer A Delicate Sound Of Thunder more, better 2nd half of the solo for me! 😉
@@GodlikeLFC97 Thank you! I do think DSOT is better than PULSE. Although I think Is There Anybody Out There is the best version.
Seen them live in Rotterdam 1994 😉👌👍🙏🏻 just seen roger waters in London 7th June This year , 🫡👍happy days🙏🏻
I feel like Comfortably Numb's solo is super overrated
same here bro!@@GodlikeLFC97
You really need to listen to the whole album. The Wall was a concept album, and it tells a compelling story. This live performance is fantastic, but hearing their voices and the mix in their youth is a real trip.
The younger generations will never see talent like that on stage. it just doesn't exist anymore.
This is the greatest guitar solo of all time, imo… but you’re wrong. There are some incredible bands still out there - not on this level, per-se, but damn good. The issue is that they aren’t on the radio anymore because pop music and the big media takeover of radio.
Because everything has been reduced to money and business rather than greatness.
I've seen Floyd live 6 times from 75 to 94. Absolutely life changing experiences that words cannot describe. I'm getting old but this never does.
I saw Pink Floyd in 1967...
@@edeledeledel5490 I thought I was old !😎
What a lucky person you are. I envied.
I never got to see Pink Floyd, proper. But I feel fortunate to have seen Roger and David both play. Saw Roger play 'The Wall' at Wrigley Field in 2012. Absolutely amazing. Saw David play in Chicago, as well, a couple years later.
5 times for me starting in 77 for animals ! life changing for sure !
David Gilmour is absolutely the best guitarist to ever Grace the stage. This is the all time best solo in my opinion.
Definitely up there with Jimi and Jerry g to me
One of the best , no doubt. But maybe not the best.
listen to Maggot Brain
Never heard of man called Jimmy Page? Lauded by many as the greatest lead guitarist & riff creator above all.
Jimmy Page is a different genre of music than David Gilmour. He is a great guitarist but I put Gilmore above him. Just my opinion.
Ansolutely recognized around the world as the greatest guitar solo of all time -
Gilmour plays with such precision. He's not about flash or shredding. His guitar truly is a powerful voice in its own right. A rightfully legendary performance.
He will admit himself, his fingers are too fat for all that. That's why you get more heart and soul from him and not a bunch of tricks 😉
I wonder if he ever gets hyper self aware moments in the middle of playing, like "Oh shit! If I stop now and just stand there like Syd used to, what'll happen?"
Too right. David Gilmour doesn't need to blast up and down the neck to show his prowess. His strength is making his guitar sing for us, to tell a story, to bring out our emotions. He is THE expert at doing that.
“David Gilmour can do more with one note than most other guitar players can do with the whole fretboard” - Dave Mustaine
She feels it too. She’s beautiful
I was at this performance at Earls Court (London) in 1994. Comfortably Numb was the penultimate song of the concert and was in floods of tears at the beauty and the agony. It was almost too beautiful. I wanted it to go on forever. At the same time, I knew this would be the last time I’d ever see them live, that this would be their last tour - I just felt it deep inside. It was a perfect moment that could never last and that would never be forgotten. It was like my soul was being filled and my heart ripped out at the same time. I stood there, unblinking, transfixed, desperately wishing it would never end, knowing it would. People all around me were crying as well. I hope someone else understands this. Best night of my life…
NewOrleans version, same feelings
I understand your emotions, i have see a concert of the same tour, Turin (Italy) Delle Alpi stadium, simply magical and unforgettable.
I was there as well that night - was buzzing all the way home o the South Coast on the bus
I was lucky enough to get tickets through a mental health charity I was working for at the time. The band gave us tickets for the first 10 rows. I will remember that night for the rest of my life. Cried my eyes out also!
Maaan🥲❤ Whish I was there...
Greatest live solo of all time! It is legendary. I saw this tour in San Antonio in 1993 and it was THE best concert I have ever seen and I have seen a ton of them. They were beyond amazing.
I agree🤘🏼💙My husband and i saw David Gilmore on a solo tour in Upstate NY in the late. Eighties. My husband of 32 yrs 😪passed away in my arms, i listen to this and remember we felt very lucky we were to see this awesome show🫠 David Gilmore pure God given talent. It is mesmerizing💥
This definitely one of the best live solo’s. Up there with SRV live version of Little Wing. Only problem with both is there not long enough.
I was there, too in San Antonio. What a great show that was
After listening to this song for a couple decades and then going a decade without hearing it because it is to long for radio stations to play these days,,, it was amazing how good it was to listen to it again. Thank you 🙏
If you're just now discovering Pink Floyd, be happy. You are about to experience a goodly amount of wonder.

@@mikeducas66Dead? Not so much. I'm a musician, songwriter and musicologist and I think I inow what I say. I forgot to add that P. Floyd is an empty music that just goes nowhere. I guess is the perfect group for the pretentiousness of some people to be shown. Sorry for my english.
You have witnessed a perfect rendition of the most perfect guitar solo in music history!!!!
Love the respect the crowd has for the song. Not on their phones or being obnoxious. Just sitting there enjoying an amazing song.
Pre cell phone days, but agree with your intent.
I would be absorbing it. That's the only way.
This was done in 1994 when I understand a cellphone had roughly the dimensions of a brick, and only for texting and phone calls.
She's just adorable. Full disclosure: 62-year-old aging Boomer here. Seeing her respond to the beyond-legendary multisensory experience that was Pink Floyd in concert, for her first time... Seeing her go in cold, never having heard this magnificent creation, and get lit up by what many consider to be the unquestioned greatest rock guitar solo of all time... Well, let me tell you boys and girls: the tears that flowed down my cheeks are drying as I write this.
Pink Floyd's music has been call transcendent a zillion times. She is not of that generation, my generation. But through her response, we know beyond a doubt that their music transcends, as well. Transcends generations. That's what brought the tears: seeing her get it - though it's neither her generation or her training or her personal style - on her first exposure? Deeply moving. Brought a feeling of... well, profound gratitude: that this experience of their music can be passed down generationally.
How cool is that??
Ohh... and now, she needs to go talk to Rick Beato. He can take it from here...
Pulse. Look how still the audience is. They’re mesmerized. Watch the entire concert. You won’t be disappointed.
Is this Pulse in 4K
Sorry, that answers itself. Have it on DVD but may upgrade after watching this 👌🔥🎸

Pink Floyd were never just a band, they were essentially an audio/visual experience.
The song on it's own is fantastic. Just gorgeous. But Gilmour's solo at the end just elevates it to a whole new level. Well done, cheers!
The guy who sang that high note was Richard Wright on keyboards he passes away and on drums is Nick Mason he got a Ferrari Enzo for free from Ferrari and the base player is so good ,then again Dave Gilmour hes voice is so pure hes tone relxing and the solo best ever if iam u react to more Pink Floyd songs u know your music love it
This is the greatest rock and roll song ever and the greatest guitar solo ever. Period.
Correct and correct. I moved from England to Australia in 1981 and the only regret I have is that I could not attend that brilliant concert at Earls Court in 1994. Luckily I have the full concert of DVD and can enjoy it whenever I want.
That look of ''I have just experienced greatness'' is priceless
As I'm sure someone else has already pointed out, David Gilmour's guitar solos are the vocals. The man knows how to make a guitar sing.
Jealous of all the great music you will listen to for the first time. I am 76 and love music and the soundtrack of my life has been treasured and cherished.
So glad you got goosebumps. This song does it to me every time, it draws you in and envelops you. A true masterpiece.
David Gilmour’s solos in this song are widely regarded as the finest in rock. His tone, precision, and emotion evoke emotions in even the hardest of hearts. He is a true master of his craft.
Thank you a thousand times over for playing the original/best/complete version of this masterpiece. Watching your eyes as this played said it all. Again, thank you. 👍
Too many reactors are not aware that this uncut version is out there i think this is second reaction ive seen to the full solo. Love it
I would say the best version was the 2005 Live 8 concert where Roger Waters reunited with the rest of the band and we go to hear Roger and David play off of eachother like they did when The Wall came out. ua-cam.com/video/P_4uEaZQ2Kg/v-deo.html
Personally I like the Pompeji version even better.

Pink Floyd is very, very high on the list of great bands. They are the masters of epic musical and visual experiences.
That keyboard riff during the chorus is beautiful.
I was there, and the whole concert was mesmerising. They finished with Run Like Hell, but nobody wanted to run anywhere, they just wanted it to go on all night.
so jealous. I suspect it was a religious experience
@MrJonah53 I was there as well. Pink Floyd finished the Pulse tour with 12 nights in Earls Court, and I was there for 3 of the 12 concerts, including the night they filmed the shown concert. One of the highlights of my 6 month stay (work project) in London.

Thank you for doing the review. I am 75 yrs old and this piece and David’s guitar solo always brings tears and a lump in my throat each time I hear it.
Thank you David Gilmore for your fabulous talent. You are mesmerizing!!!
I play drums in a band, this is one of my all time favorite tracks to play too,not flashy very understated but so so powerfull! Gilmores lead is blinding……what a master❤❤❤❤
This song comes from The Wall album, which tells a complete story. It is a beautiful song, but when heard in the context of the album it is even more powerful. The ultimate experience of hearing this song is during The Wall movie, which gives not only the musical experience, but the visual one as well. Watching it definitely helps understand exactly what is going on during the song, and takes it to a whole new level. If you have never seen it, do yourself a favor. I played the studio version of this song once for my girlfriend at that time, playing along with the cd on my guitar. I nailed the final solo, playing along note for note. She cried at the end.
This is a good reply here, if you haven't you should give the entire album a listen, and possibly even watch the actual DVD - it's kind of got it's shocking moments but it does really give this song a lot more meaning.
No, the ultimate experience of hearing Comfortably Numb is in a live performance of The Wall. The second best experience was hearing it live in these shows.
One of these pieces where it's simply impossible for me to listen just to one song. The Wall is not just a collection of songs, it's one track.
You just heard THE BEST GUITAR SOLO EVER PRODUCED in history of the music!!!! Period!!!❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘
I cant believe when people say, that they are listening to Pink Floyd for the first time...If true, better start now, before its too late ...Its one of the first ten bands I learned and discovered...when i step into music and drumming..way back when i was in my 10 years....
I'm a 60 year old Scotsman born in 63 so i grew up with all the greats from The Beatles to Pink Floyd to the Sex Pistols i was 16 in 79 then The Wall was released and my older friends all told me i had to see Pink Floyd but we had to go to London's Earls Court and by luck my cousin had got 2 tickets so off i went to my first Pink Floyd show and sweet jebus it was the most fantastic thing i had ever saw everything was awesome every song every bit of stage magic was mind blowing, i was very lucky to see a band at the top of their game and it was great to have all those great 60s and 70 bands who made real music as the soundscape of my life. BIFF BANG POW!
That is a masterpiece of music, and brilliant, perfect, expressive guitar phrasing by David Gilmour. I'm a 60 year old guitarist, and it still brings a lump to my throat, perhaps more so than ever, every time I hear. Wonderful to experience it with you.
It doesn’t matter how many times I hear this and watch Gilmore play, I get shivers every time!
This song is from The Wall, its a part of the movie when the lead Pinky finds out his wife has left him for another man, its the final brick in the wall. The Wall which is the thing we build to protect ourselves from that which hurts us, or shapes us. Teachers, parents, women we love. This is when they find Pinky who overdosed in his hotel room, the effects in the song are what its supposed to sound like to him cause hes wasted. The pin prick is the adrelain shot to bring him out, etc. When you understand why hes comfortably numb it makes the song even more genius. And the effects of the music awesome.
Yes, it's pretty hard to understand this song without the understanding that it was written as part of a concept album for a movie.
Pink Floyd have been playing this track since 1979 (!!!), often at huge live concerts, and it shows.
And if you want something a little different - check out the cover by the Scissor Sisters. At first I hated it -- but now I love them both.
Takes me back to the days of my youth before mobile phones, and tic-toc. Some of their music touch the core of your being. Even today especially with equipment of the time.👍
I've said it many times, and I still stand by it: There's Pink Floyd, and then there is everyone else. It's neither fair nor reasonable to compare them with anyone else. I was lucky enough to see this tour live when they came to Atlanta. I've been to 200+ concerts in my life, and there is not another one that has even been close to the energy and excellence as that one. It was truly an experience I'll never forget.
You might have said it many times but this is only your opinion and it is worth just as much as anybody else's. That's reality.

Pink Floyd isn't just a band, it's an experience.
you MUST listen without stopping the music
Many of us already knew how outstanding this song is. The genius of Floyd, the exceptionalism of David Gilmore.
Welcome to the party!
Pink Floyd are the undisputed God's of Live performance. This entire concert is studio quality. All of the lights and special effects are highly choreographed to maximize and amplify the emotion in the music. They want every audience member to have a visceral experience. There will never be a band/artist that can surpass Floyd.
I adore Pink Floyd, but some - myself included - would say that an ideal live performance is not just a reproduction of what is on the record, but is instead wildly different from the record, full of improvisation. I mean, if you want to just hear the record, who needs the band? Just put the record on, start the lights flashing , and let the band stay home with the wife and kids.
I mean, absolutely no offence to Pink Floyd or their music when I say this; David Gilmour is one of my top three guitar heroes. However, it’s not because he sounds exactly like he does on the record - quite the opposite. I love the improvisation in his solos. Now that he’s a solo artist, he does much more improvisation, and, in my opinion, is much more enjoyable to hear and watch.
Greatest live band ever: Blue Öyster Cult. No guitar solo is ever the same. No keyboard solo is ever the same. The drum patterns are different at every show- particularly in their golden years, between 1973 and 1981. Rock ‘n’ roll is not meant to be as Symphony Orchestra, in which each musician consistently adheres to the sheet music every night; it’s meant to be an emotionally charged, of-the-moment phenomena.
Yep, I was there the night this was recorded and can confirm this is 100% true.
You are absolutely right!
The wide shots of the audience are amazing. Unlike most songs at a live concert, the crowd is standing almost motionless, in complete awe, letting that perfect song just wash over them, mesmerized by the beauty of blending music, lights, and a guitar solo that pierces deep into the soul. Near religious in nature .
Beautifully said! Awe is the right word...
I literally spit my water out when I heard you say that you have never heard “Comfortably Numb” before. Well, we can now say that the very last adult human on this planet has finally heard this beautiful song.
Oh my, what a contrast; this is an instrumental performance, with vocals
Probably the greatest live version of the greatest guitar solo in rock history. It was such a treat that you let it play and we got to experience that with you. I've been listening to it for decades, and I tear up every single time.
The genius of David Gilmour is sought after by the music world...Unmatched by no one...Simply astounding! I have heard this song hundreds and hundreds of times...Each and every time it moves me....!
@ 70, I feel so privileged to have experienced this live when it was new. Today the lengthy musical prologue matches my comfortably numb state, somewhat powerless till attempting to remain accepting of the ways man seems to more often than not choose destruction. So encouraging to share peaceful thought with those in the audience then, and here all these years later.
🙏❤️🇨🇦
I saw this at Soldier Field in Chicago some years back. The enormous “Comfortably Numb mirror ball” emerged from a truck or trailer at the 50 yard line. Shocked, we watched it rise as pole section after pole section extended to a height of the upper deck end zone seats. The mirror sparkles travelled around the downtown Chicago high rise buildings. The entire downtown skyline had become part of the show. I will never forget that moment. It was stunning.
I was there too. We were on the field, probably around the 30 yard to the stage. I turned around and saw the ball rising up. Couldn't stop staring at it.
I experienced the same concert in Edmonton Canada. Pink Floyd has been my favourite band since I was 12. 57 now and Comfortably Numb is still the best song ever written. But that amazing mirror ball was everything!
Best. Guitar. Solo. Ever. 😎
Honestly how can someone listen to this particular version of this song and not think it is the GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME??!!
Pink floyd isn't just a band, it's a religion ❤
1943 mark...it hit Miss "The Vocalyst", she GOT what Pink Floyd and lead singer/guitarist David Gilmour are all about...her look was both joy and amazement, as it should have been. I laughed.
You don't just hear Pink Floyd, you see and feel Pink Floyd.
Best live guitar solo ever.
The whole Pulse concert was epic.
Okay.
You mentioned lighting.
This concert is the greatest live music lighting design ever made. I know, as I am a lighting designer for live music myself.
When you are out of ideas, or just need a fresh impulse to draw from, you watch Pulse by Pink Floyd and you're good to go!
And this song is and will always be in my top 5 songs ever made.
Yes, the light shows at Pink Floyd concerts are spectacles in themselves.
You also mentioned the soothing mood set by the song. This is related to the subject revealed by the lyrics; a first person narrative of a performer encountering a "Dr. Feelgood" ("that'll get you through the show"), and the addictive better living through chemistry trip that follows ("there is no pain; you are receding"). The combination of musical and lighting genius capture this perfectly for anyone who has been treated with modern general anesthetics. Of course the subtext reaches well beyond into escapism of all flavors and the related detachment from humanity.
They had lasers not seen outside labs. The most amazing live experience ever. A 70mm projector. And a band that never stagnated
They had 2 full lighting/sound rigs and crews for this tour, it took over a week to assemble and set up, so whilst they were playing one venue, the other rig and crew would be travelling ahead to set up the next venue.
Refined is a good word. It’s amazing what 30 years of daily purposeful practice can do for refinement.
My dad got me into Pink Floyd quite some years back, im 38 now and i play there stuff regularly, that track, that solo, spine tingling, your right dad they are the greatest.
I have listened to this version no fewer than 100 times and it still gives me chills. That guitar solo could go on for 3 weeks and I wouldn't be mad.
I was lucky to be at Pulse in 1994. You should know he laid that down at the end. By that time we were already emotionally spent. When I looked around there were plenty of people with a tear in their eye. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this masterpiece. Wish you were there. 💜
I was one of the people with tears in my eyes after watching this live at Earls Court in 94.
I would have been, as well and I enter my 8th decade in London next year. I saw PF debut DSOM @ Earls Court with 18,000 others in 1973.
It has suddenly occurred to me that I have seen "PULSE" endless times but where was this? Earls Court?
I was never an especial fan of Pink Floyd. I remember “Another Brick In The Wall” coming on the TV when I was 14 and it was mesmerising. So I knew Comfortably Numb from the album and from having jammed it occasionally with friends, much better guitarists than me.
I watched this just because of the association with The Vocalyst, because I love her analyses of the songs that I love. Not even halfway through the song, I had tears streaming down my face. A totally unexpected reaction. David Gilmour makes a guitar talk even better than a human voice can. Such emotion for three o’clock in the morning, when I was expecting something gentle just before going to bed. Gentle, yes, but you could not possible fall asleep to this. Pure genius.
so sad.. a childhood and young adulthood without pink floyd.. sometimes being older is a good thing..
Every guitar 🎸 wants David Gilmour for Christmas… David has a way of pulling and tugging at your heart strings. One of the greatest guitar solos EVER! I was fortunate enough to see them live on this tour. PF is an experience… truly amazing!
This was recorded well after their vocal peaks. They've brought in some young help to bolster their weak spots, but they are still strong, in step, and unified. This is a band with scars that in many ways is better than their youth. And the way they use instruments as emotional voice: incredible!
Agree with your comments. The more mature voices bring something very touching to the performance.
On the other hand, Gilmour sounds disinterested vocally in a lot of the live performances from the band’s “peak” between the Dark Side of the Moon and the Wall. He’s older here. But he also sounds like he cares deeply about the music again.
Roger Waters did the original vocal, which is why it sounds very different.
It's a major life event when you first listen to Pink Floyd 🙂
It takes me back to a time I shared this tours show with my dear brothers, now gone. But the memories everlasting. Thank you David Gilmore and the Pink Floyd members and all the others whom I’ll never forget…Bravo😢
I am here with you.
Rule of thumb. Never stop during a guitar solo.
Or the beginning of the first chorus
To give her credit she went back and allowed it to run uninterrupted.
Don’t pause Pink Floyd AT ALL. Esp to be critiqued by someone who’s never listened to Pink Floyd. Don’t really give a F what she thinks of it. I don’t get it with all these so-called experts that have never heard of some of these masterpieces before. Have they been living under a rock?
Yeah, yeah I know, if I don’t like it, just scroll on. That’s exactly what I’m going to do. Can’t even make it halfway with all the pauses. Gonna go put on my Pink Floyd vinyl and regain my composure.
Next, critique “ More than a feeling “ by Boston. Never heard of that one either, huh?
Haha, damn, I’m annoyed in grouchy at this. I suppose I should check into that, I guess.
Great band, great song, great concert! If you haven't already, watch the whole show. It was a show that remains in the history of the rock genre, and of music in general. Such bands will not appear again. Thank you for everything you do here, and greetings from Romania! 🤟🤟
If you haven't yet, check out; "The Great Gig in the Sky" from the same concert or the original from Dark Side of th Moon album. The vocals are insane.
Just a bit of information. On THE PULSE TOUR across the USA, they used 99 tractor trailers. 33 were on site, 33 were setting up the next show, and 33 were driving to the show after that. My cousin told me about that fact because he knew some of the ROAD CRRW.
Dave Gilmour best solo ever best band ever there lights ect sound wow just super love yr reaction watch more of Pink Floyd ...Sorrow and Run like Hell
Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd. There has never been anything quite like them, never anything as musically amazing in their ability, range and the way they can take you on the most incredible journey. David Gilmour on lead guitar just simply makes that thing sing, and this particular song and guitar solo are among the best of all time. If you haven't heard too much, then I can only suggets you take the journey and brink us along with you, we love your analysis.
As a prog rock fan, mostly old Genesis, I feel like I SHOULD like Pink Floyd more than I do. I love Wish You Were Here, but Comfortably Numb, at least for me, overshadows every other song of theirs. Heck, almost every other song on the planet. It almost feels like a waste of time to listen to any other song of theirs!
Richard Wright on keyboards and intro vocals sets the tone but David Gilmour's vocals and trademark mesmerizing guitar solos take you to a place of unimaginable beauty. Thank you for opening the Pink Floyd door Bethany! They are so marvelous!
"So gradual, and so heavy and just kept building." Pink Floyd 101.
the conversation / interaction between a drug pushing doctor and a deeply psychologically wounded patient epitomizes the '80s for so many. and resonates to this day.
I never get tired of watching this performance! Pink Floyd's music, and more directly David Gilmour, are one of the main reasons I'm learning to play guitar. They are masters of the craft of creating music. I've heard it said, and rightly so, that Pink Floyd doesn't create music, they create atmosphere, mood and emotion. I love that!
Great reaction Bethany! I hope to see some more of them on your channel. Enjoy this journey!
That solo still gives me chills every time. Not fast, not overly technical but so much feeling, brings a tear to my eye as well! Thanks for the video.
