No need to shame it ofc, its probably main mode for most of the world :D
While I greatly enjoyed my time with the harder difficulties, I completely understand not being interested. I feel like with the way the game is structured, it makes it clear that by beating the game normally, you've already "Completed it" you don't need to keep going if you don't think the harder difficulties are for you, especially if you already have tons of games you want to try in the backlog. Maybe one day you might go back, or maybe not, but either way you don't need to do it right now.

Dude the boss cell mechanic is actually the crazy dope thing about dead cells. Thats how you actually make a roguelike scale in a long but fair and meaningful (progression whise) way. When you compare that to hades heat mechanic, so bad. BC unlocks new weapons, biome and mechanics just peak roguelike design.
Bro, this short should have been posted months ago, but anyway i agree with you, i did the same as you did but then when i started to love it and get deeper into the game i had my circumstances that i got away from the game since then
The question at the start, yes there is 1 game and only 1 game that I tried and disliked only to come back to it about a year later and loved it to the point I put 500 hours into it. That was Divinity original sin 2. Due to loving that game so much I expected to like BG3 but after finishing the first act I just could not get into it and its a shame because its 1 of 2 games that I thought I would love only to realize I am not enjoying them even slightly, the second one being rimworld. I have gotten 3 boss cells in dead cells and I only played it again recently due to an update but ya, after the first one I also don't see much point in going on, it gets harder but no real reward for it, I have nearly 200 hours on it and I would say for at least 100 of them nothing much has changed.
idk if you will read this but one thing important is that more boss cells will give you not just harder game but more content in them such as new enemies that only show up from harder boss cells and new routes. there is also an entirely new area after the king. so I say look it up if you are interested in what dead cells can offer. also, one more thing to note is that there are many secrets to unlock new content in the game.
I love dead cells. I played this game through a hard time in my life, i definitely recommend it to people who haven't played the game. Also Wyvrn the extra difficulties are so worth playing
The PS5 is by far my favorite Playstation generation by far, I've played twice as many games in the last 3 years than in the entire 7 years i was on PS4, for me the improved performance going from 30fps to 60fps for most games has been a huge game changer, its completely changed my mind on games I hated on PS4, a low framerate can ruin an experience, games I could never get into on PS4 due to horrible performance I'm now loving on PS5, its been a night and day difference
I agree that higher bosscells are very frustrating and hard, but I never saw it as a grind. Ive spend hundreds of hours in the game and since there are tons of biomes to go to, I never felt like it lacked variety. If you want more out of the game, try alternative routes and different builds. The best way to play is increase one stat as high as you can. If you played with brutality, you can try tactics or survival. The custom mode lets you do that more easily
In dead cells, difficulty modes are just standard progression through the game. Beating 0BC is just the beginning. You only finish the game after beating 5BC twice
Emmm no, most dead cells players never do 5BC. Most stop at 3. Game is done when credits roll, all others BCS are extra content. Good content, great even but not necessary

The thing is, boss cells aren't "added difficulties". They're a part of the main game since not they only add new areas and equipment, they're also relevant to lore and game events. You didn't beat the base game, you just finished a run. I recommend you keep playing but just so you know, boss cells are extremely hard and keep getting harder the more you get. They'll take a LOT of your time so if you don't like the grind and loop of "die, start again, die, start again, die, start again, etc..." then i wouldn't recommend you keep playing
I'm satisfied with what I completed for now. The credits rolled and that's all I need to know to know I beat it. The lore doesn't matter to me at all and new areas aren't worth grinding for hours and hours. I'll just move on to other games and leave Dead Cells with a positive impression.
@@WyvrnOnYTbut you didn’t beat it. You have to understand that credits rolling in a roguelike does not mean you beat the game. Most roguelikes don’t even truly begin UNTIL you’ve completed your first run. Binding of Isaac, for example would only have you beat a few bosses initially while rolling the credits and you’d be missing 100% more of the game. This genre is designed to get more and more complex as you play. They’d be far too difficult and complicated if they just opened up at full potential on run one. The fun is mastering the game, or thinking you have, and realizing the game has only JUST opened up to you. Dead Cells IMO isn’t even dead cells until 3+ Boss Cells. It’s just a tutorial until then
If you like Dave the Diver i recommend Cult of the lamb if your also into cozy games like animal crossing. The rougelike mechanics are not as prevalent and is one of my favourite cozy games.
Ive put 9 hrs into this game and haven't seen a boss and gave up too..also was my first roguelike..i recently got back into it and enjoying the grind more now that i "get it."
I disagree on the roguelike view, it is by nature not repetitive, it’s randomly generated world is designed to give you a similar yet unique experience each and every time you play. Roguelights (like dead cells) usually have incredible variety of way to play( weapon and mutation in dead cells, wands in noita ect…). You see it as a repetitive grind I would argue that it is a game that makes every rune unique and is a reflection of the player mindset. (Ex: if you never change route, weapon mutation and BCyour runs will be similar and grindy but of you change every time the game can NOT be repetitive)
I had an experience very similar to yours with this game and I'm enjoying it right now. PS, even if rogue likes aren't your thing check out Hades from supergiant games.
I've been a rogue-like connoisseur since Northernlion started playing the original Binding of Isaac. The list of amazing games in the genre keeps getting bigger. If you like poker checkout Balatro. If you want great dialogue, art, music, and combat play Hades. If you want bullet hell, guns, and cheeky humor, then play Enter The Gungeon. If you want to launch nukes and fly massive methane fueled airships, try HighFleet. If you want to destroy the Rebel scum, buy FTL: Faster Than Light. Some other good ones: Risk of Rain 1 & 2. Both fantastic games Darkest Dungeon Caveblazers Streets of Rogue Rogue Legacy Paranautical Activity Crawl Dungeon of the Endless Out of those, if you are looking for something casual, or more of a thinking game than a reflex game, then Balatro, Darkest Dungeon and FTL.
Somehow, I still play with mouse and keyboard, and I have already got to 1 boss cell. I rebinded the controls to be more akin to, for instance, the default keybindings for the Ori games.
Picked up this game from steam summer sale this year and all i can say is i spent a unhealthy amount of time playing this game in the last weekend and still can't get thru the clock tower area 😂
I play all games on keyboard. I don’t get why people think it’s hard. Probably because I’ve never used a controller. I have no difficulties playing Dead Cells, Cuphead, etc.
Personally I prefer it over something like Terraria (which is the actual grindy game) since I can load it, enjoy a run or two, and turn it off, the progression is just a bonus to make getting more boss cells easier and to give you more variety, as you said, the combat is really fun even with the first available weapons. I play on keyboard only, you don't really need the mouse at all, the attack and roll buttons can be binded to your left letters (QWE on QWERTY) and your movement and jump to arrow keys, that's it, it's more fun that way, I came back to the game after more than a year and I still managed to get the first boss cell and sadly lost to the Hand of the King tk get the second consecutively in my first run.
A big problem with your gameplay is that you're evenly spreading your scroll stats, ideally u should pick one stat brutality/tactics/survival and stick to it for an entire run upgrading only that stat
I think the reason is that some of this gameplay was recorded years ago when I wasn't as great. I knew not to evenly spread stats when I played through the game 2 months ago.
Given that you don't like roguelikes in general, I would Say that's a Total win for Dead Cells! 😉 Glad you enjoyed 0BC! It's worth to continue playing (I reached only 2BC), but if you're not into roguelikes game loop, I can understand your point!
I had a very similar experience only I was playing with a Pro controller on the Switch from the getgo. I'm getting older and my reflexes and dexterity aren't what they once were so the quick reactions and platforming was beginning to become troublesome for me. I also never really got into Roguelikes so I didn't enjoy that aspect either. I generally have a very limited amount of time to play games each week (usually an hour or so per day) so I decided to sink that time into games I could make more progress on like Breath of the Wild or Ghost of Tsushima. I left Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, and Metroid Dread on the shelf because they were "too hard". I have recently gone back to Metroid and DC and have found much greater success. I'm not sure why. I found myself really enjoying Dead Cells and have beaten 0BC and gotten close a couple of times on 1BC. I still haven't unlocked everything so that sorta drives me right now!
Interestingly, the stuff you like least about "roguelikes" - the long meta-grind - is something that‘s not part of any real roguelike (aka "game like Rogue"). True roguelikes are by far my favorite games, and in them your very first run gives you exactly the same chances, mechanics and items than the 300th run. And the only factor that makes you reach futther and further, is your growing skill and knowledge. Sadly, every game calls itself roguelike today for marketing purposes, so the word doesn‘t mean anything anymore.
mouse+keyboard is actually very good in Dead cells. When compare to others similiar games, Dead Cells have the best mouse+keybord. I never played it on any other controller
Bro plays the boss cells its so much worth it...when u get to higher boss cells it will make 0bc feel like nothing...also some weapons skills and mutations are locked behind bcs as well as some locations and the difficulty increase makes it a more fun experience with different enemies and such...i love dead cells to death
This was pretty much my Dead Cells experience, except in one gaming "phase" or whatever. When I first started playing this game, I was pretty into it, even beat it twice (without any of this newfangled DLC you young'uns are talking about), but the difficulty spike quickly pushed me away from the game. On the Boss Cells and difficulty: due to this game's rogue-like nature, going up in Boss Cells is more than just increasing difficulty, it's how you progress in the game. I got to BC3, and I still don't feel like I've "beat" this game yet. I don't completely hate the mechanic or it's repetitive nature, and I want to come back to this game, but I don't care enough about it to put in the time and effort needed to progress, which is the case with most games for me these days. On rogue-likes: I wouldn't consider myself a rogue-like fan or hater, but a few to consider are Faster Than Light (or FTL for short, this game is basically Star Trek's "Divert all power from the engines to the shields!" the video game, and it's fantastic), Everspace (3D zero-G space shooter, just about every run contributes to your long-term progress), Prey's DLC Mooncrash (goes from frustratingly hard to laughably easy once you figure it out, but still very satisfying), and an honorable mention, Sunless Sea, which isn't for everyone, but is another game that can seem annoyingly difficult until you figure out how to cheese the system.
I wouldn't say ps5 is bad. I swapped to PC a long time ago so I don't play my ps5 but my wife does. Anyway, I LOVE Castlevania and there has been a wave of Castlevania DLC in several games. I didn't care for vampire survivors the first time I played but the Castlevania DLC made me love the game. This game seems interesting. Rogue like games are some of my favorite games. Story games have a definitive end where Rogue likes can just keep challenging you with your play style ever changing depending on the items you use. If you play games you should never view it as a waste of time because that mentality will remove a lot of fun from games. Look at monster hunter. The games can be fun depending on which one you play but they are grindy and rewarding. But, repetition is the core of the game which turns off people. Story games are great if you like the story, genre, and atmosphere but usually has low replayability.
Boss Cells, they are a challenge, i recomend you and not; why? Simple Recomendation: More weapons, more possibilities, new buils, so many things to make you fun over ans over again Not Recomendation: Boss Cells are difficult, the Fifth Boss Cells is a NIGHTMARE (I only have one), the food is infected, the Malice/Peague is everyone also in you, limited healing, is a challege for the most pacient peapole
boss cell 1-2 inst too hard to be honest, but if you plan on going past 3 you will come to hate yourself. ive always viewed the boss cell system as an addition to the game and not mandatory. so dont feel pressured.
Honestly even the luck part, isn't much luck... while yes some weapon are better then other, at the end, its just every weapon having their own learning curve... I am mainly saying this... because while there are a lot of weapon I do really well with... the Flint, for me... is one of the worst weapon of the game... and it seems to be the same for some friends of mine, yet for you it felt extremely broken
See the beauty of good roguelikes it that every run in different. sure the levels look similar but their placement, the loot inside everything is different. Thus every run is unique is a different. it's not about what do i get from it rather it's about can i beat this like this or maybe i should use this strat. It's all about skill and strat. To me that's what deadcells mean
FInal Fantasy 7... couldn't stand the stupid fights that would appear out of nowhere (kinda like the roguelike mechanics thing here) ... years later I love FF so much that I bought a ps5 solely for Rebirth. Mass Effect, couldn't get into it ... a few years later, ive finished the trilogy 3 times over on 2 different platforms.
You think a mouse and keyboard is bad? Imagine beating the secret final boss with mobile touch controls

If you like Dave the Diver i recommend Cult of the lamb if your also into cozy games like animal crossing. The rougelike mechanics are not as prevalent and is one of my favourite cozy games.
I never got into animal crossing but if cult of the lamb is similar to dave the diver I probably would like it.
@@WyvrnOnYT If animal crossing isnt your thing its probably not for you.
@@GraceCairns-v4dI would also compare Cult of the Lamb to Don’t Starve + Rimworld in some ways.
Ive put 9 hrs into this game and haven't seen a boss and gave up too..also was my first roguelike..i recently got back into it and enjoying the grind more now that i "get it."
The real game starts at one boss cell. The "Grind" in just fun and imo the game gets more fun the more boss cells you collect.
I love dead cells for the gameplay but if you're not in love with it I'd say maybe watch a UA-cam video for the story
Calling the flint OP is crazy
He definately has to experience baseball bat😂
I disagree on the roguelike view, it is by nature not repetitive, it’s randomly generated world is designed to give you a similar yet unique experience each and every time you play. Roguelights (like dead cells) usually have incredible variety of way to play( weapon and mutation in dead cells, wands in noita ect…). You see it as a repetitive grind I would argue that it is a game that makes every rune unique and is a reflection of the player mindset. (Ex: if you never change route, weapon mutation and BCyour runs will be similar and grindy but of you change every time the game can NOT be repetitive)
You should try Hades. It's another roguelike and IT IS harder than Dead Cells, it's more fun imo and if you enjoyed this, you'll enjoy Hades.
Hades is harder than 2 boss cells maybe, but anything higher and dead cells is easily harder
@@jakeguillot6246 I believe Wyvrn said that he won't be beating any difficulties harder than the default one.
Hades is harder than BC2, but that's about it
I had an experience very similar to yours with this game and I'm enjoying it right now.
Some other good ones:
Risk of Rain 1 & 2. Both fantastic games
Darkest Dungeon
Caveblazers
Streets of Rogue
Rogue Legacy
Paranautical Activity
Crawl
Dungeon of the Endless
Out of those, if you are looking for something casual, or more of a thinking game than a reflex game, then Balatro, Darkest Dungeon and FTL.
I don't get it why people find playing the game with mouse and keyboard so hard. It's actually pretty intuitive and snappy.
I play all games on keyboard. I don’t get why people think it’s hard. Probably because I’ve never used a controller. I have no difficulties playing Dead Cells, Cuphead, etc.
A mouse and keyboard were created for uses other than video games, while a controller is created to play games.
Focus on one stat not all 3 it makes it 10 times easier
a huge part of this game is build variety for me dont just stick to one "OP" weapon
Fair enough. I think I enjoy the grindiness of terraria a bit more since I've been playing the game for a while and am used to it.
Actually you were Wyvrn
💀
Blud be like: This is the best game i have ever played in my whole life ~ 3h played
The only reason I got into this game is yes indeed A CastleVania DLC. It’s awesome
It shouldn’t be seen as a waste of your time if you’re enjoying doing it!
Use the Continue Accessibility Option for higher difficulties. Felt like a different game.
The final difficulty there's going to be 2 final bosses.
i didnt get into the game at first but after 2 years i came back to this game and i liked it :)
Bro. Play Hades. One of if not THE best rogue like of all time.
A viewer gifted it to me a few days ago. I'll be sure to play it.
mouse+keyboard is actually very good in Dead cells. When compare to others similiar games, Dead Cells have the best mouse+keybord. I never played it on any other controller
Now Play Hades
I've heard good things, but other commenters have said it may not be my cup of tea.
@@WyvrnOnYT that exactly what i said before start Hades or roguelike games, now i 'wasted' 120 hours in game.
You think that isn’t your cup of tea? Try noita and suffer as all us noita players have
Risk of rain 2 is also another good one, while really intense and such, it’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it
Bro plays the boss cells its so much worth it...when u get to higher boss cells it will make 0bc feel like nothing...also some weapons skills and mutations are locked behind bcs as well as some locations and the difficulty increase makes it a more fun experience with different enemies and such...i love dead cells to death
best sidescroller metroidvania roguelike I've ever played
Dead cells is amazing
On rogue-likes: I wouldn't consider myself a rogue-like fan or hater, but a few to consider are Faster Than Light (or FTL for short, this game is basically Star Trek's "Divert all power from the engines to the shields!" the video game, and it's fantastic), Everspace (3D zero-G space shooter, just about every run contributes to your long-term progress), Prey's DLC Mooncrash (goes from frustratingly hard to laughably easy once you figure it out, but still very satisfying), and an honorable mention, Sunless Sea, which isn't for everyone, but is another game that can seem annoyingly difficult until you figure out how to cheese the system.
i stoped awhile ago and you encouraged me to replay it!
Simple
Recomendation: More weapons, more possibilities, new buils, so many things to make you fun over ans over again
Not Recomendation: Boss Cells are difficult, the Fifth Boss Cells is a NIGHTMARE (I only have one), the food is infected, the Malice/Peague is everyone also in you, limited healing, is a challege for the most pacient peapole
boss cell 1-2 inst too hard to be honest, but if you plan on going past 3 you will come to hate yourself. ive always viewed the boss cell system as an addition to the game and not mandatory. so dont feel pressured.
Fr, people treating it like it is the "real" game are such elitists
2:31 hey my best friend just recently beat the game after 2 years and I beat it in a bit he was on controller
This game is one of the top rougelikes alongside isaac, gungeon and slay the spire
Had a similar reversal of opinion for Terraria. Took a few attempts before liking it.
Same for me and i'm playing it right now when i'm typing this. ITS GOOD
You should check out Wizard of Legend. Another Rogue-like that is EPIC
never knew there was a parry
my favourite rouge like is the binding of isaac rebirth
Honestly even the luck part, isn't much luck... while yes some weapon are better then other, at the end, its just every weapon having their own learning curve... I am mainly saying this... because while there are a lot of weapon I do really well with... the Flint, for me... is one of the worst weapon of the game... and it seems to be the same for some friends of mine, yet for you it felt extremely broken
If you liked this games castlevania DLC, you have to check out Vampire Survivors
Controller is the key to enjoy Dead Cell, in my humble opinion.
You should do boss cells because it super fun even if it takes long.
I feel the same way about roguelites, maybe I should give it a try
The controller keybinds are weird
I got a broken controller and still play, cuz it has hollow knight and is pure PEAK
Try Risk of Rain 2 my dude. Its my favorite Roguelike, and mouse+keyboard is preferred for this game! Can't recommend it enough
Never got past boss cell 4
See the beauty of good roguelikes it that every run in different. sure the levels look similar but their placement, the loot inside everything is different. Thus every run is unique is a different. it's not about what do i get from it rather it's about can i beat this like this or maybe i should use this strat. It's all about skill and strat. To me that's what deadcells mean
try to play the binding of isaac repentance im sure it will change your opinion about rogue likes
Hey, mind if I take a couple souls of flight?
Ayeeeeeee
Nice
Yes, just not from me.
Im only playing in keyboard not with mouse and its easier
Damn you! I’m over 700 years old.
When you claimed Dave the Diver was a roguelike i immediately knew you had zero knowledge of what you’re talking about lol
I know you said you don't like roguelikes, but hades is a must try. It will change your perspective. Great vid btw!
Man i should try it
Yea you should
No harm in trying, especially considering the lower price.
Bro you never beat Dead cells because you lack of hands you have to unlock 5 bc to even get to the last boss kekw
I did the same thing with hk
I was hoeing he played it on a harder difficulty I play for the challenge and I quit that game i suck lol
FINALLY
Dave the Diver is not a roguelike
actually 5 boss cell run real dead cell normal run just tutorial
Rogues are still copying dead cells right now. Also, it sold allot more than you think it did
