They really do better when you "forget" them. I hardly watered mine bc I was so busy over the course of almost 3 years. Sprinkle here and there. I looked at it a few weeks ago and it grew ALOT. I took it outside and repotted it. Then we had a bad storm, wind blew it over. Now it's in plant rehab. Dammit. 😆🤦🏾♀️
Indeed! I almost killed mime by overwatering (even though i was checking the soil, not deep enough it seems) , luckily I spotted browning, stopped completely, put him in a terracotta pot and learned to water it when it feels squishy. Yup - I gently squeeze the bottom leaves/branches once a week and if they are no longer firm - I water that. A splash can go a long way, he has exploded since. I have learned to water my plants based on their leaves appearance, you can see when they are droopy, no longer shiny, squishy etc - and you know when to water.
Im so happy I randomly found this channel. i didnt know someone besides me could be so into plants 😂. But dude has me beat! I love the way he refers to them as "these guys". im now inspired to step my gardening skills up!
My first Aloe Vera plant “Spikey” was purchased 8 years ago as a tiny baby. He went through almost dying (I overwatered him and underwatered him). Once I figured it out he came back to life and has proliferated and now multiplied to 30 aloe Vera plants 🌱
you inspired me to show my "aloejandro" some much needed love! i got him some new soil, food, and a cute new pot he can stretch his legs in. he deserves it for putting up with my neglect. thank you for sharing your plant experience with us! i told you before and i'll tell you again: you are so handsome 😍also, i hope all is well with you 🕊
You can def let your aloe leaves callus by themselves, but you can also put cinnamon over where you cut to help the drying process. It'll make your plant less likely to get fungal, viral, or bacterial infections from that wound. Your plant is not as much at risk of those infections while indoors, but it's still a possibility. It's like putting in a bandaid, not always necessary, but always on the safe side to do Your mama plant is huge and beautiful!
Twisty Sunshine Yes. Great tip and advice. I actually used this cinnamon trick to help with a wound on one of my philodendron, it was starting to spread so definitely helped prevent it from spreading further. Thanks for sharing. 😊🌿💚
This was fun. My fav part was when the camera shot was recording from the bottom of pot & the soil was thrown into the pot & covered up the view from the Camera. I put it buy the window in my classroom I really hope it grows. I will follow all of the tips you give thanks so much
Thank you for confirming this Christian!! I just got a new Aloe plus, an Aloe that almost died on me and needed to repot them both!! The store didn't have any cactus/succulent soil so I did mix potting soil but with alot more perlite and some Orchid bark! Hope they thrive in this mix!😊
Thank you, this was the best video on aloe propagation I've seen, and I've seen a lot. The amount and frequency of watering is the info I needed most. None of the other videos were as specific as you. So thank you!
I kept reading about this NASA air-cleaning thing so I went to do some of my own research. Plants definitely have an important calming effect and do sometimes help regulate ambient humidity but air-cleaning...that's a bit exaggerated. The number of plants and airflow required for that to be a significant effect, makes the air-cleaning benefits out of reach for anyone living inside a normal house. And if I recall correctly, it turns out microbes in the soil at the point the roots interacted with them did most of the 'cleaning' anyway.
You bring a smile to my face every single time I hear you say TA-DA! Not only that, you have taught me so much. I'm going to watch every single video you have put out since I'm a newbe plant mom. Expect lots of thumbs up from me. I only had a pathos and an aloe prior to 2 months ago, now I think I have about 30 plants gracing my home. Hit IKEA at just the right time, lol. This video was especially helpful since I was able to divid my aloe with your great instructions and make 4 of my friends happy as well. Thank you!
Thankyou for the tips on how to care and propagate aloe plants. I’m recently getting into succulent type house plants and find all of your videos extremely helpful! Thankyou so much!!
I just got an aloe vera two days ago and I just found this video out and this helped me out because i have been watering it every day since i got it so i’m glad I found out that I didn’t have to water it every day so I wouldn’t accidentally kill it. Thanks for the video!
Hello fellow nature lovers😊, this was so refreshing and informative! Thank you @crazy plant guy, I just got my first aloe plant and also starting my plant mom journey with a variety of plants, they make me feel so at peace and happy.
Well done! My potting soil mix is a standard from the grocery store, plus rinsed and clean small sized street gravel mixed in at about 30% ratio. I water my Aloes by slightly pinching the leaves at the bottom and top of the plant to see how much moisture they hold. And then a finger to the first joint pressed into the soil, lets me know how dry the soils is. For a large 6 qt. pot I use old 12 oz. beverage containers, already filled with water from several days before. A large pot in the Summertime get 24 oz of water and the 2 qt. pots get one 12 oz. container of water. That is year round watering, while living in a dry climate area. All the Aloe plants face a South window and get indirect sunlight during the Summer and direct sunlight during the Winter months. Since the oldest plant is now over 4 years old, I am thinking of putting it outside in close to direct sunlight to see if it will flower next year or not. It already has another off shoot on the plant. I removed two from the plant last year. Fertilizer? Only what may come with the potting soil mix, otherwise not.More fertilizer only comes from the new garden soil mix when the plant gets repotted or top dressed. This is a desert plant from South Africa. I treated as any other succulent plant growing indoors out outside.
I enjoy your videos and watch often! Jealous of your big wonderful windows! I bought an aloe a few weeks ago. Seems to be doing ok. Love my snake plants, spiders, ZZ and pothos varieties and Brazil philodendron! 🌿🌿🌿😁🙌 Great content. You get to the point and are concise which I appreciate. Thanks!
thank you crazy plant guy I enjoyed your video. I am a first time plant mama and I bought my aloe plant about 2 months ago and it is time for a repot. I am excited to repot my aloe plant. :)
This video came in the perfect time for me. A friend has got one Aloe and was asking me about caring tips for it just yesterday, so this saves me so much time 😂
Thanks for this video. I just brought my aloe in the house yesterday due to a freeze warning. It’s big like your parent plant. Your video was very helpful especially how to tie up the leaves in order to repot.
You sir have just gained a new subscriber!!! I have been trying to care for aloe plants for years and did not go so well. Just got another wish me luck
I killed the two aloe I had….over watered. Then a friend gave me a pot of aloe that needed to be separated. She said there were 3 plants in the pot. Actually, there were 7! I separated them two days ago and went and bought terracotta pots and cacti potting soil. I’m so looking forward to planting them today. New plants, new pots, new soil. It’s a good start so now I have to take care not to over water again!
I don't see the crazy part. You obviously love your plants and I stop by your videos when I see a problem then I'm ok. So much snow here in MN I need to get a plant hobby. Thanks for sharing your plants.
I bought a aloe vera leaf from the supermarket to try and root it. I doubt it will work though, but I went to my mom yesterday and she gave me one of hers along with a cactus that was gifted to me a few years ago. I love this video! You are so nice and full of positive energy that it radiates through the screen! Thank you! I have a question though, I planted my aloe in succulent soil but the soil takes forever to dry at the top. Could that be bad for my aloe?
