Morrigan does say she can't come along when you get the quest, but that was interesting seeing what happens when you do, I haven't seen that before. I let her live, since you can't really kill her. But good job.

I highly recommend doing one of the dwarf origins in a future playthrough. Dwarf commoner is a great zero-to-hero underdog story, and dwarf noble has a lot of political intrigue and betrayal (also, you can have a star-crossed love affair with your bodyguard). My canon warden is a dwarf commoner and I am very attached to her.

That reaction to Flemeth's transformation was great. Glad you didn't take Morrigan when you went to meet Flemeth, since she specifically tells you she shouldn't come with you when she asks you to confront Flemeth.
The interaction if you bring Sten along to confront Faryn outside Orzammar is really funny.
Ah, the Rose's Thorn. My favourite dagger when I'm playing a rogue. Another one I like is in the Awakening DLC.
You can get a lot of XP in Orzammar just from activating things in the environment.

Hey Liera, great episode as always.
U get some funny dialogue from Sten, if he's with u when inquiring about the sword. Thats the only real difference.
Also minor spoiler, when u get into the Deep Roads be sure to ask Cuddlbear if he sees anything of interest. There is a special item u can only get from having him search the area. Unfortunately Cuddlebear won't find it on the first search so u'll have to have him search multiple times.

    50:50 - pronunciation: "eye-duke-un"

1:12:10 - Ah, Ruck. I shall say no more. This is a good quest, and very interesting. "The ancestors finally heed my prayers!" - This is how I like to believe the Maker in this world works. Through our actions to help each other.

No chainmail? Temperature? Did Joan of Arc complained it was too hot (and she had reason to)? XD
Kidding of course, you gotta do what you gotta do.
    >0:41
You should stop saying about going to Orzammar. Maybe you'd end up there by accident eventually. ;D
    >1:12
That part is actually best served when you have a full party Alistair can comment on, which you don't because... no Orzammar :) Sadly that is triggered by you reaching maximum approval with Alistair and completed 3 main story quests, not by you having gained a full party...
    >1:45
You realize that parts of Alistair's views about Zevran stem from insecurity, right? He's less concerned about the "assassin" part and more with the "could be a rival" part. haha
    >3:05
Oh, yes, definitely. If Sten wanted you dead, you'd know it first hand and way before he tried to do something about it. Qunaris are like that. Very few know how to act on the sly (and none of them are in the army). Straightforward is their way. If they are intent on killing you, you know it. If they call you "kadan" you know you're one of the few they truly like.
    >4:03
Yes, but she also told you that Flemeth is pretty much immortal. You can physically kill her, true, but that will only delay her return... for a while. The actual process is a bit more complicated than that but let's not get ahead of ourselves :)
    >"Goddamn it"
What did I say about not saying "I'm going to Orzammar"? At that point I don't know though, maybe you managed to deal with Flemeth and reach Orzammar in the same episode, who knows? Unless there was another distraction on the way... Let's face it, always a possibility! :D
    >7:21
Oookay, that line of thinking is entirely on you. For once I've nothing to do with it! And somehow I feel good about that! XD
Or maybe you just beat me to the punch but I'm not about to confirm that :)
    >"The conclusion of the previous statement was wrong"
For Zevran it was, apparently not for you. XD
    >8:36
I like Wynne's statement there. I've never really thought anything of it until recently. But it's so very true...
    >"It's kind of a funny thing to hear..."
Well, put it another way. The clock is ticking for all of us but some have a more precise idea of what time of the day it is on theirs.
    >"...from a person who literally has a resurrection on her bar"
Well, the thing is, they don't call that "resurrection", they call that "revival" which is to say that magic cannot bring the dead back to life, unless you're practicing necromancy but that's a whole other thing -- simply put, you borrow an errant soul to stuff in a corpse under your control. There has to be a spark of life remaining in a person for magic to "revive" them.
    >"But I guess technically we are knocked out..."
    There you go :)
    >12:06
I can confirm you're not the only one. Guilty as charged. :)
    >12:48
It's a bit late in the story now. Most of the good spots are behind you. There's only Orzammar left. Also it's actually a weird process because a companion may cancel what another companion has to say. So having Sten say things during a main quest that opens up a conversation topic with him at camp may depends on who else you have in your party and if they also have something to say at the same moment and override Sten's potential comment (I can't even count how many times Alistair and Morrigan overrided other companions in my playthroughs).
If you want to even have a chance for it to work, you have to bring Sten with you at the beginning of each main quest (first time in Redcliffe, first time in the Circle, first time in the Brecilian forest... Orzammar, not sure, I think it works differently there). It doesn't matter if you keep him for the whole quest as long as he says his piece once there, which may happen immediately or not. You may have some cases like the Circle of Magi where he will have a couple of occasions to say something that will unlock the topic of mages in Qunari culture. Hearing him commenting about the Chantry in Redcliffe will open up a topic about religion/wisdom... etc.
You can also learn more about his culture by just listening to banters he has with other companions. For example you learn that Sten is not a name from a banter he has with Zevran where he actually confirms that Sten is a function. A good pairing for him for banter is Shale. Shale is the only companion in the party that he ends up calling "kadan" (well, he will also call you "kadan" if you play your cards right haha).
    >13:50
Never been to Orzammar I take it? I'm asking just to be sure. XD
    >15:08
His comment is proof that he liked it a lot (if he didn't like it he would have said something like "Well, thanks, I guess"). But you cannot go beyond 100 approval so no points gained there. Approval is funny that way (in any game) you can always go lower than the max but never above. So unfair...
And it's not a "special" gift so he doesn't have anything special to say about it.
    >16:51
That's not true. we're interested in your reactions to new things and actually this was the first time you returned to Soldier's Peak after ending the quest, no?
    >17:13
You've been cleaning house I see. Nice to have a convenient chest to stuff instead of your inventory. Knowing you, I'm sure it will be back to max in no time. Actually I never tested the limit of the chest (I know it's about the same as your own inventory for the storage chest in Awakening but I never managed to put that much in Soldier's Peak storage chest). Wouldn't it be something if you managed to reach the limit for both the chest and your inventory? :D
    >18:00
Memory troubles? :) Morrigan specifically told you when she discussed slaying her mother that she shouldn't be here when you confront her because of the risk of being possessed by her if you managed to slay her.
It's a voluntary thing from the writers' perspective. Not having Morrigan with you allows you to make your own choice far from her judging eyes and ears so you can deal with Flemeth on your own terms, not necessarily on Morrigan's. Whatever happens, she will not find out. What happens in Flemeth's hut stays in... well you know :D
And yes, of course she's upset. You didn't pay attention to what she said, why wouldn't she be? haha
    >20:20
Yep, that's definitely Flemeth from DA2, not vanilla. I really don't know who thought it was a good idea to do that here because as you say "You do look like a demon" so automatically that orients most players toward a confrontation instead of working out another solution. From a gameplay perspective, that sucks. There's a reason why Bioware went with the neutral old lady look in Origins without anything added. If they wanted to give her the look of DA2 in DAO, they could easily have. I guess the original intent was lost on some modders.
    >"Your voice is quite different as well"
Nope, it's only the look. The voice is exactly the same, your good old run of the mill "Catherine Janeway, Captain of the USS Voyager" :D But you saying that just confirms that this look "switch" screws it up for first time players, because now your mind is building a conception about Flemeth that was never intended by the writers at this point. They intended her to be neutral to allow you to start this conversation neutral as well and to leave your ability to make your own choice unbiased (Morrigan's opinions being quite enough already).
    >22:35
At least you make some good points and keep an open mind but I'm sure a lot of other first time players wouldn't.
    >25:27
Remind me why you didn't want to fight the high dragon? XD
    >31:31
You're certainly not the only one to kill her (although many more died trying), but always with the same outcome: she's still there. It was never about killing Flemeth anyway, just delaying her. So indeed you accomplished little more than you had choosing the non violent option. As for why she couldn't die here, you'll have the explanation, just not now.
The description of Morrigan's robe in Flemeth's hut is actually in reference to the -1 in willpower. This -1 is still there whether Flemeth is defeated or not, which pretty much confirms Flemeth status because with her actually dead, the -1 should be gone.
And it's Flemeth that prevented your and Alistair's death at Ostagar, not Morrigan... just saying. If Flemeth had asked for her daughter's opinion, we both pretty much know what she would have said considering her initial attitude toward you and Alistair. In fact she didn't hide the fact that if she had to rescue someone it wouldn't have been either of you but the King because of the expected much higher reward. :)
And yeah, picture me in Alistair's camp if you want. I always had some problems with Morrigan even when one of my characters romanced her (the only time that actually happened). So I guess Alistair and me are going to form a club. :D
    >33:28
Note that your previous choice doesn't change Morrigan's approval here. She has her mother's grimoire now and that's what she's truly grateful for. But the thing is, Flemeth was ready to hand this grimoire without a fuss, as you know. So the question is: what secrets Morrigan expects she'll find in the book that her mother really didn't want her to know? Flemeth sure didn't seem pained to give away the book, almost as if she wanted Morrigan to have it in fact.
    More to follow...

      >35:24
There are no spawn in the city itself (otherwise the Dwarves would be making a very poor job of keeping them out and they really really like to keep them out). They're all in the Deep Roads -- well a lot of them are on the surface right now but that's just a detail, right? -- and you won't have access to the Deep Roads immediately so the initial party choice is not really that important here, the only place in the game where it isn't important. Maybe just Sten for the initial impression? Bringing a rogue though... who knows? There might always be some locks to pick. Who am I kidding... There *will* be some locks to pick :) But luckily Orzammar is a place where you can switch your party easily enough.
      >46:33
That's a matter for debate, even among dwarves. Surface dwarves are not regarded as true "dwarves" by the ones in Orzammar. Officially they don't even exist. So surface dwarves may as well pretend they are not dwarves as being one is not getting them anywhere with the other dwarves.
Only surfacers merchants are allowed in Orzammar a couple times a year and they are only an exception because trade with the surface must flow.
I think this particular dwarf just expresses her bitterness at the situation.
But you'll learn more about the caste system and surface dwarves inside... Be prepared for the massive upcoming torrent of codex entries :D
After all, the Deep Roads is where the whole Darkspawn thing started so... pretty significant place, even beyond the mere politics.
      >55:21
He wasn't talking to you but to the guard. You've just witnessed one of Orzammar biggest problem (beside Darkspawn). He's a casteless, meaning he's almost outside of the caste system, even lower than the servants who form basically the lowest caste and as such dwarven laws forbid him to be there. He should stay in the casteless quarters called Dust Town. He's in fact lucky that the guard was in a good mood (or didn't want blood to stain the floor of the Hall of Heroes), because he could have been killed on the spot for that "offense". This is how badly casteless are regarded.
Generally casteless are those who are barred from a caste because they stole, or murdered someone, or performed other heinous act. The problem with the system is that not all casteless are vile. Most of them are casteless simply because their parents were casteless. In Orzammar you automatically belong to the caste of your same sex parent, caste of your mother if you're a girl, your father if you're a boy. For example if you're a girl and your mother is a smith, you automatically become a smith. No turning back. The only way for you to be anything else is to exile yourself and become a surfacer. On the surface you can choose to be what you want but that also means cutting all ties with Orzammar and never be welcomed again there.
Anyway, casteless babies are casteless because their same sex parent is casteless. What an awful crime, right?
And if you think the system is idiotic it's probably because it is. Still tread softly when broaching the subject of castes with dwarves. Some are sympathetic and even want change, but they are relatively few.
      >58:20
      Welcome to Orzammar politics! XD
      >1:00:08
Roughly, just more serious. If you win in a Proving you're considered as being favored by the Ancestors (meaning all the dwarves who were returned to the stone) and as such dwarves regard you as being proven right. So among other things, the Proving is often used to solve disputes where the winner is the one who cannot be wrong because the Ancestors have chosen them. Most Provings are only fought to first blood but the more serious ones go until death.
      >1:02:07
Wow, she's very eager to deliver the whole plot of the dwarven noble origin to a total stranger now, isn't she? Kind of spoiling things, no? Well it wasn't Endrin's second son that was condemned in my case but his daughter (keep better informed gossip girl!).
Sorry, last time I talked to Naeva she already knew me; kind of long time acquaintance, and she was quite useful giving info about the current political situation and what my brother was up to. Not that I didn't already know after playing DAO so many times :D
      >1:03:17
Really, after the whole speech she gave you? So without spoilers, any of the two guys will get you what you want eventually (troops to fight the Blight). The one who does will have to be king first though. One of them will bring Orzammar toward an enlightened future, the other will be largely seen as a failure of a king by the other dwarves, not changing anything and keeping Orzammar in status quo. And no there's no way I'll tell you whom is whom. Eventually your choice depends if you care about Orzammar future or not. if you don't, either of these guys will do.
      Time to choose! :)
      >Dagna: "You look what you're not from around here."
My, what gives it away? The ears or the size? XD
Last time I was playing as a dwarf so her way to open the conversation didn't sound that strange but geez...
      >1:06:38
No he says that even when Shale is not present (and as a dwarf one would think he knows what a golem is anyway). Sometimes I'm quite confused myself. What is he actually talking about... no idea. Possibly something the Lyrium makes him imagine. :)
      >1:09:00
If a bunny didn't have any fur. Leliana calls them "bunny pigs" and she's a big fan. She considers them pets, Dwarves mostly saw them as food. But now you have your connection to the "Nug Crusher" you found last episode :)
      >1:10:56
Fine, that means that Alistair and me can welcome Shale to our little club! The more the merrier, right? :D We could invite Sten too, and possibly Zevran. Leliana... a possibility but there's her fixation on Morrigan's breasts and neck and... I don't want to say more, not in a public setting anyway >:D
      >1:15:14
Too bad, he's a dick, true, but he has a couple of nice things in his inventory.
      >1:16:08
Forefathers whom were really there and alive at some point, so there's that, they are not just worshiping in the void. Who wouldn't like to think that their parents are still watching out for them from wherever they are?
What's the Chantry stance? Oh yeah, the Maker proves his existence by doing absolutely nothing. The less I'm doing the more I'm there. Oh and let's not forget that he unleashed the Darkspawn on the whole of Thedas because a mere dozen of Tevinter mages managed to desecrate his home and he was pissed about the intrusion. What a fun guy! Then he turned away with a: "You know what, try to sing me a song and see if I care!". What is he? 12?
Thing is, arguing religions is like running in circle. It's absolutely pointless. Nothing can be proven or refuted, it's the very base of beliefs. So nothing is really worth discussing. Let people believe what they like to believe and stop trying to convert everyone to your own set of beliefs. Brother Burkel thinks a Chantry in Orzammar will do some good. Fine let's have one but actually it doesn't need to be called a religion, just charity. Charity is fine, it doesn't require you to believe in some divine power, just the goodness of other people.
      >1:17:02
Oh, you'll have the answer to that question, don't worry... I doubt it will be surprising to you.
      >1:17:53
Orzammar is big enough sure. But the Deep Roads are way bigger. And you'll only get to see a small part of them. I hope you got your comfy boots :)
      >1:18:07
Only one exit leads into the Deep Roads. The guarded one just beside the place where you found your first nug. In the past there were more entries to the Deep Roads but because of the Darkspawn they obviously don't wish to have more than one entry point to cover.
The other exit you're referring to, I'm assuming, simply goes to Dust Town where the casteless reside. You'll go there eventually anyway. Nice place to visit (and yes, I'm being sarcastic there).
      >1:18:28
If you want to learn the basics about Orzammar, the culture and history, which is always a good idea, and gain a truck load of codex entries to strain your eyes on, then yes the Shaperate and the Shaper are definitely your next stop, right at the end of the Diamond Quarter. Bringing Shale when going to see the Shaper is a plus ;)
So that aside... how"s the new setup working? Comfortable? :)
