    Do you think the Gulf Railway will be completed by 2030, or are the challenges too big to overcome? What impact do you think it will have on the region if it succeeds?

      Earthworks are the largest physical challenge in a project like this one. The Abu Dhabi - Sohar connection is going to be expensive, time consuming and rigorous. But the payoff is going to be tangible beyond expectation. The deep water intermodal container port at Sohar is going to prove invaluable, especially since it has a lot of room for expansion, and not least of which is because it will eliminate the perilous maritime choke point of the Hormuz Straight, allowing the western gulf states to avoid problems with Irani aggression, should that ever be the case. This railroad was devised to enhance and expand the non-petroleum assets of the Arabian peninsula in order to diversify the economies of the gulf states. SA is already taking advantage of the links it has created between the oil fields and ports to transport sodium and sulfur by-products to the international market. This project is not about HSR or tourism. It's about profit, diversification, efficiency, and interconnectivity with the global economy.
      High speed passenger rail, which you focused on more than the other aspects, is just the money losing, subsidized cherry on top.

    Also worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia is very close to constructing the Saudi Land Bridge railway project, which will connects the ports of the Gulf to ports of the Red Sea.

    A paradigm shift in terms of trade and transportation between the GCC countries which will only pave way for a better and friendlier relationship between them

      Indeed, this railway could really help bring the GCC countries closer together, both economically and socially. Thanks for watcing it!

      It is difficult to understand why these co-religionists do not have good relations as it is.
      This is all a great expense to put something in place to facilitate trade - these countries don't produce anything other than oil and gas.

    Gulf countries are becoming oil free economies so that this project can help them

    If GCC landmark project is linked with two continents (rest of Asia and Africa) with making two tunnels same size Euro tunnel linking UK and France. Interestingly, both tunnels size are same like Euro tunnel. If due to some political constraints tunnel at Gulf of Hormuz due to some rivalry with Iran and Bab-ul-Manzib factor with Houthis of Yemen, GCC can use rail ferries like Scandinavians countries used for decades till they make tunnels and bridges. Whole train is shifted inside ferries without any loading/unloading hassle of using Gawadar port of Pakistan to Oman. GOOD LUCK !!!

    It's nice that this region is getting this done. But not unprecedented. The Canadian Pacific Railway is more than 130 years old. The train line traverses the Canadian Rockies, sweeping prairie fields, and the dense forest from Ontario to Nova Scotia Built between 1881 and 1886, the railway connects Canada from coast to coast. The historic was about 4000 km, but now spans 20,000 km. Then there is the Canadian National Railway of 20,000 itself.

    Of course it will be late, these mega projects always are. Of course it will blow thw budget for the same reason. But, it will happen (see Sydney to Perth in Australia

    What are these long haul trains powered by? These all see like fossil fuel solutions.. is there a plan to run solar along the route?

      It may be electrified

    • @baflah1
      @baflah1 21 день тому

      yes by fossil fluel. the demand is expected to be low, which make building electrical train too expensive to recop the cost

  • @tigerphid9677
    @tigerphid9677 Місяць тому +2

    This is absurd. Freight could travel by ship, since the destinations are along, or close to, the coast. And passengers could fly. In both cases, there would be no need to spend $250 billion and consume vast amounts of resources and energy building it.

    Seriously?! A single line?! That's what it shows in the video, and it's the stupidest thing imaginable. What the heck?! Please tell me you just used a pile of generic railroad footage and it's really going to be double trackage.

      I'm afraid not, railway is mainly single track and diesel powered.😮
