    Finally an actual SKETCH-book...i hate all those super clean "sketchbooks" with everything neat and tidy and basically done artworks. Best episode so far.

    • @CaptainFutureman
      @CaptainFutureman 4 роки тому +28

      Yeah, that just makes it very intimidating. Lots of people advise drawing in a sketchbook, but I think for most aspiring artists that is the worst advice possible. Better to sketch on loose sheets and napkins and throwaway stuff and in books you don't like. That way the sketches are never inhibited.

    • @HinTXDesign
      @HinTXDesign 4 роки тому +37

      I think you shouldn't get upset about people having too "clean" sketchbooks. It's just that at some point they got so good that their sketchs look like done artworks to us, but they still are sketchs to them.

    • @CaptainFutureman
      @CaptainFutureman 4 роки тому +13

      @@HinTXDesign Not really upset, I guess I worded it pretty strongly. And yes, they may be so good that to them it's easy, but my point is that it is very important to have a place where experimentation is possible without too much of an inner critic and with no expectations and no quality standards. Most sketchbooks I see online are proper works of art with no flaws, no trial and error, no multiple versions, etc. This gets people into the wrong headspace. Even those great artists experiment aand need to try out new stuff and styles. They more than likely have sketchbooks or sketches lying around that don't look so fabulous because that wasn't the point of the sketch. They may or may not show them, but it's important to realize that your experimentation will always be far freer if it is not in a book preceded by 30 wonderful drawings. Then you will always take fewer risks not to ruin the overall level of the book.

    • @HinTXDesign
      @HinTXDesign 4 роки тому +3

      @@CaptainFutureman I completly agree with you! ^_^

    • @squintygreeneyes
      @squintygreeneyes 4 роки тому +3

      @@CaptainFutureman totally disagree with that advice. napkins and stuff would be the most inhibited, what the heck, u ever try to draw on a napkin? sure its fun for tic-tok -toe while u r waiting for dinner or fun little drawing games but telling people to chose stuff like that over actual sketch books? sketch books are pretty much the opposite of what you said. they offer the artist the flexibility to draw anywhere with good quality paper that can be later archived. they can be used as reference hell, passed around and shared. get a good sketchbook going and it can do wonders for your confidence and motivation to get back to drawing. hell, someone i look up to very much drew me something on a napkin once. i was able to hang onto it for maybe about a day and never saw it or him again. your original statement is complete utter ass backwards bonkers to me.

    The thing that has struck me most about all the artists in this _Sketchbook_ series, is how humble/modest and (even in some cases) insecure they all are. It's lovely to see that despite their incredible talent, they're all so down to earth and unpretentious 😊
    Whereas you get these flash in the pan social media celebs and 1 hit wonder musicians who put themselves on SUCH a pedestal - and they wouldn't know talent if it punched them on the nose! 🙄

    I really appreciate seeing the sketch and the rendered artwork. We’ve all seen beautifully rendered images, but seeing the sketch is a little like seeing the wizard behind the curtain. It’s also a reminder that we shouldn’t give up on a piece too early. Time and dedication can truly turn them into something inspiring. 10:00

    I love that Karla Ortiz will laugh and appreciate all of what the artists are saying, and even chat with them a bit while they are explaining about their art, but she will never put her thoughts nor opinions on the conversation. She truly knows how to give the "microphone" to them while verbally keeping them company at the same time.

He was a person who everyone wanted to be around. He was an amazing musician and artist and funny as hell. Wish I had kept in contact with him. Good times. Great guy. Hi to y'all. ".ZeS." from Madrid, Spain (fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad).
    I must say... I have connected (mentally) with Crash McCreery!!! OMG!
    His mind works in similar ways than mine... and it has been difficult for me to find a good "mentor" (virtually - I am self taught and always learning) that can help me grow in what I want to express. And I have found one right now!
    I will defenitly research him and his work. I don't know how to express what I felt when I saw his sketchbooks... it just resonated into my soul and my mind.
    Thank you for this AMAZING series of Artists and their sketchbooks!!! There are so many amazing artists to learn from... It really helps us all, big time!
    Cheers from Sunny Spain!
