I like the "solution" with the fake grilles where the exhausts used to be. As he said - it really needs to be SOMETHING there. I think those grills marking the corners to give the rear some stance is just fine.

Two issues with this review. The styling details such as the swage line and rough vehicle proportions are the same as the Kodiaq and VW Allspace, so how exactly have Seat made a good job of it. And as for the key not having a place to go, isn't the whole point of keyless entry is that the key can stay in your pocket? If you get it out to place somewhere on the dash why not just do without it? Otherwise, love the depth to your reviews.

Being a proud Seat Ateca user I think you made a very honest review of this car which is named after the roman empire era name of my hometown Tarragona. I totally agree with your opinions, I had to go for the 190 bhp 4drive diesel Ateca to match with the acceleration I had in my 2009 Opel Insignia 160 bhp automatic diesel, car with which I made 300k km without a problem, even I could tell you the clutch bitting point was more refined on the automatic Insignia than in the Ateca DSG which really surprises me... maybe its just a personal bias. My Ateca is on a 4 year renting and most likely after that I'll be going in the full electric direction so not many chances of me going for the Tarraco... I think you hit the nail on the head about the 7 seat thing, my old Insignia was 4,83m long so I know what is to have a difficult car to park on the street and that was one of the main things I looked in the Ateca, 4,32m so half a meter shorter with more than decent 5 seat/boot spacing. I would go again for a 4,80ish 7 seat car if rear places were "real" places for 1,70ish height people but seems to me the Tarraco compromise is not a good one cause families who really need a 7 seat car will go for more real options and if you don't really need the 7 seats, is it worth to "suffer" the 30cm longer Tarraco over the Ateca on a daily basis? Despite all that I love the Ateca driving dynamism (for a SUV) and quality (Excellence Plus).
Thanks for the great review, keep 'em coming!

I really want, that digital cockpits get integration with Google (Apple) to be really functional, because much of the modes are useless and navigation, that would be really usefull in digital cockpits can be only from car's manufacturer. Personally I want to use one navigation everywhere, Android Auto is good, but if could be integrated in digital cockpits....

Forgot to mention, the front passenger seat is all the way back when you show no legroom in the middle row in 7 seat mode, much further back than the driver's seat? Hardly a great example and not particularly fair..

    Thanks for the review guys.
However a few points against the Tarraco. The interior packaging based on my observations vs its cousin, Skoda Kodiaq, and this is coming from a 2 year old Ateca owner.
    No umbrella storage.
    No pop out door protectors.
No second glove box on dash.
Less cubbies and hooks in general.
I know these things might seem minor But living every day with the car you might want to consider Kodiaq.

    Great Review Brian,
I'm looking for an SUV as a replacement for my Passat Estate. What puts me off most SUV's is the limited boot space as compared to the Passat Estate. Hence this 7 seat vehicle, in 5 seat mode is exactly what I'm looking for. I would probably very rarely use the 3rd row of seats, though as my wife is just 4'10'' I suspect she would be able to fit in the back row OK, for short journeys. I thought you should have tried setting the middle row, not just at the extremes of it's positioning, either fully back or fully forward, but in a middle setting, I assume that is possible? That would reduce the knee space in the 2nd row a little but increase it a corresponding amount in the 3rd row. I thought it was a bit unfair to just show the extremes, as you did. I agree the Alhambra is much better at being a 7 seat people carrier, but it's not an SUV!
Here in the UK, as you probably now know, the Tarraco is only available in the 7 seat version, so there is no choice if you want one. Being a caravaner I'm looking for an SUV that is a good tow car as well as have plenty of boot space for all the caravan extras that one carries. In diesel form I sure this would suit me fine.
Again thanks for a great review over all,
    Jonathan.

I like SEATs styling, but current one is step backwards for me: older Seats front grill was more appealing, they just added additional angles like in updated Fabia, maybe other Skodas. First look at the rear reminded me some gen of Ford Galaxy, and floating infotainment screen not fitting there, I think, in such case they needed to redesign whole central console.

    • @teovm
      @teovm 5 років тому +2

Also it does not have a hump in the middle. Yep you lose some ground clearance (it's around 13,5cm for the diesels) but still it is way more comfortable. You can get it with a 4WD if you really need it. It is stylish for a 7 seater. It is longer as this provides a full 7 seater with 5 child seats with anchor points. And it will probably be cheaper. I'm currently driving the Alhambra and it is a great 7 seater vehicle. Also it is a great workforce vehicle. I have carried rails that are 3 meters in length, inside, with the boot closed, courtesy of the flat folding passenger seat. 5 grown ups with all the tools in the boot. And do not get me started of that rear sliding doors. You can load pretty much everything from everywhere.

It is not a SEAT as I know it. It is just a middle of the road large SUV. They should have put their money into some really sporty cross between a hatchback and an SUV (something between a Leon and an Ateca, that would be a interesting offer) instead of completing their SUV line just for the sake of it. A dull large practical family SUV is Skoda territory, Kodiaq beats Tarraco hands down, and that's what Brian seems trying to say in the end. The last thing SEAT can afford in its lineup is a dull car. And this is exactly it. The problem here is that a large sporty SUV is a way too expensive affair for SEAT (it is more of a Jag/BMW territory). But SEAT has to maintain its sporty image no matter what. Maybe they are abandoning it with separating Cupra into a different brand. That would be a huge, huge mistake.

Fake exhausts gets me twitching by the edge of the eye, but thats mostly in exsotic or just more expensive cars where the engine really is something, like mercedes. Maybe Seat is just a brand to far for the VW group. It is the brand in the group doing least well, and I think, part of the reason for that is, its difficult to create a clear enough separation between Seat and Skoda. They are trying to market Seat as the more sporty alternative, but SUVs are not really sporty, and neither is the new Ibiza noticeably more sporty than a Fabia.

A stupid car, born to fail 20" Wheels, No Leather huge price tag and guess what VW Cannot supply 2.0TSi DSG Auto Spec Engines as they do NOT PASS WLTP Emissions tests, so NOT only Seat, but Audi, Skoda and VW Cannot get engines so car sales have slumped. LMAO.

      Its good to avoid leather

@@autogefuehl why? Leather is Premium and easier to maintain. And for A £40k plus car in top spec it would be expected. FYI My Skoda Kodiaq has been rejected.

We have researched this issue for many years now so please take your time to go through our extensive resources stated below as they answer every single question we have yet received concerning this matter.
At Autogefühl, we have already received several thousands (!) comments, messages and mails that more and more people want to combine enjoying their car with reducing the environmental impact at the same time. We believe that sustainable luxury is possible or at least we should do everything to support that. Those many thousand people confirming this trend, motivate us to give you the most authentic information and background on the product parts. It is not about what you bought in the past, and it is not about blaming anyone, it is about what you decide in the future and what you can decide and influence as a customer. So we want you to have all information that you need for a decision you later enjoy and like best yourself.
In Summer 2017, Tesla motors has decided to be the first manufacturer to go all the way with sustainable seat materials, only offering fabric/cloth seats or leatherette seats in different colours. They have banned all real leather from the seating surface and at the steering wheel in the white trim or on demand. So Tesla shows where the industry will and must be heading, just like they went forward with electrification first.
Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary and also see conditions of animal skin production:
      ua-cam.com/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/v-deo.html
List of practical reasons against animal skin seats:
      1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it)
      2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling
      3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating
      4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
      5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa
      6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ua-cam.com/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/v-deo.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that and as described, non-leather materials are now standard for ALL Tesla
      7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather)
      To the environmental reasons:
      1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below)
      2. The factory farming industry can be accounted for at least 40 % of climate emissions and thus is (according to numerous sources you can look up) the number one reason for climate change and environmental destruction. It is the number one reason for deforestation, two thirds of all agricultural land on earth is used for growing animal food crops. If you would feed humans directly by using the agricultural land, you could produce much more food for everyone. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf
      3. It is not only cows who are suffering, but also the environment and to a big part also humans. Think of slavery-like working conditions in slaughterhouses (there are plenty of documentaries about this) or think of chemically altered drinking water in animal skin production villages as also seen in the video footage.
      4. The discussion, for which body part the cow is killed first, is very patronizing. But if you really think it would be important why someone gets killed in first place: There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even while still being (part-)alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
      5. So even if a cow gets theoretically killed for meat first, in every case you give additional money to an industry that relies on killing, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". A the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover up that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.
      6. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production”
      1. Indeed some fabrics and micro fibres are oil based, however most oil is spent on energy production, heating and fuel. The share of oil used for artificial cloth etc. is very very small.
      2. If you look at the whole production process, the leatherette is way more sustainable than the leather produce. Even if you leave the ethical aspect aside, here is the official calculation of the CO2-Output animal skin vs leatherette (different kinds of leatherette):
      Leather 17 kg CO2/m²
      PVC leatherette 10 kg CO2/m²
Acella Eco natural leatherette 8,5 kg CO2/m²
Benova (PUR leatherette): 8 kg CO2/m²
So by using the latest high-tech leatherette, you even the CO2-emissions are cut in half!
      3. The best to-come solution are indeed plant-based materials like Pinatex (based on pineapple leaves) or new materials based on mycelia (roots of mushrooms) or other innovative natural products. That’s the future.
      More special video episodes:
      1. A initial special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html
      2. And another one right here: ua-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/v-deo.html
      3. Furthermore, you’ll find the footage of leather production also here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ua-cam.com/video/JipYvuDsI6s/v-deo.html
      timecode starting 27:46
      4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ua-cam.com/video/OgHs239bAnE/v-deo.html
      5. Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway.
      Manufacturers reactions:
We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL. If it all would be clean and happening without harm, why don’t they show it to us whereas they are showing us every other detail of their products? They have good reason not to, because there is no such thing as a clean animal skin production without harming cows, humans and the environment. The only thing a manufacturer can do is increase their effort for a better future, and we are helping with in-depth talks and interviews by presenting the increasing customer demand for sustainable luxury. Tesla was the first one to react in a major way now.
So meanwhile, we more often also get feedback that a lot of manufacturers are working on leather-free interiors and are aware of the situation. E.g. Bentley, Mini and Kia have started vegan car interior programmes. Besides Tesla, Mercedes already shows major choices for sustainable interiors, you always have to pay attention to the details when ordering, of course - and we are happy to give advice. However, much has to be done still and the Autogefuehl community is massively helping in boosting the positive change!
Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!

@@autogefuehl Upsetting as it maybe and it is ugly and horrible. It does not address my points. I am not discussing ethics, if I were I would look at more environmental issues. The points I have made are is that for a UK Spec car (which you cannot even buy because of WLTP) costing £40K Plus people expect a Top SPec, this is the MOST EXPENSIVE car Seat are selling, more expensive than teh SKoda and I think the VW. Customers expect a high spec and value for money and Leather is one of those options that in more expensive cars is standard. And in reality are you expecting me to believe that every leather seat in every car by other manufacturers is sourced by Animals being abused (which is Disgusting, unacceptable and abhorrent). What about skins from food production? configurator.seat.co.uk/seat-cc/desktop-desktop-006_DEFAULT-en-normal.view?msk=1

Of course all leather seats are from animals being abused, how would that work to keep someone in captivity and kill him/her without abusing? Thats a contradiction in itself. Would you care if you were mainly slaughtered for your smartphone or for your purse to steal? Would you care about the specific reason that occurred first?
