Hello! My go to methods for luxury: network with realtors, network with HOAs, talk to gate guards of gated communities and reception area staff of condos, and where possible hand written notes w/ a biz card left in specific homes you want to target. :-) And the fun thing about luxury when you're good, is 1 client leads to 2 leads to 5 leads to 10. It can happen very quickly cuz they'll tell their friends. Then before you know it you're all referral based. 🚀

If you like cleaning (even if you eventually hire out the cleaning) then that's a huge advantage. :-) The ones who fail get in the biz only for the money... but there has to be an appreciation for the service too to be successful long term. When I did residential I never took a vacuum from job to job... I always required my clients to have their own. And same for tools... never took them from house to house. And each home I cleaned got a fresh set of sponges... mop heads... towels... etc. Great question! Proud of you for thinking about this :-)

My thoughts are you'll do awesome then! Many want to start cleaning businesses just for the money which isn't always a bad thing... but there is no connection to the work itself. Even if you don't clean in your biz as a cleaning biz owner there should be some level of interest in the work itself... since that's the product you're selling/offering. The students that do the best in my program are just like you... ones who enjoy cleaning for one reason or another. :-)

A sub is their own business owner, and therefore would need their own insurance. If you hired employees, then you would cover them under your insurance. And the laws for subs have gotten stricter so I now employ both subs and employees. Neither is right or wrong, they are different, and ultimately you need to ensure you are compliant. :-)

We had registered our company and EIN also got . We have license for remodeling residential also , to start cleaning business we need permit or another license ? We r in NYC
It's different everywhere... so call your local government and ask. Could be city, or could be county... but the 2 questions to ask: 1) Do I need a permit of some kind to operate a cleaning biz? 2) Do I need a business license to operate a cleaning biz? 👍

You can just tell them upfront you don't have a website if you want... but ultimately it doesn't matter. Business is all about building trust and solving problems. And if you're in front of a customer, you can do that in person faster than a website ever will. :-)
I told a friend that you required customers to maintain products in their homes, and he stated that when he had cleaners come to his apartment, they brought everything with them. He said that he had no cleaning products and would not have contracted that company if they’d required he already have the products required. Do you bring the products and leave them there yourself, or do the clients have to go out and purchase a list of products and keep them on hand? Thank you for all the info you provide!
When I did residential I tool a kit from job to job, but the bulk of the products I required the homeowner to buy. In some cases I ensured they always had what I needed on hand, and in some cases I they took care of that well on their own. And now that we only do commercial, I require the business owner to do the same. We create a monthly order, but they pay for it. And this comes down to one simple thing: client communication. When I teach my clients WHY I prefer this, and how it makes no difference to their bottom line in the end, they are more than happy to comply. And just because 'most cleaners' take everything from job to job doesn't make it right, or wrong. Every business is different. But I am all about building the business I want to actually own and run. :-)
You mean how much should you pay your staff? That's a BIG topic... but in general you should pay them a fair percentage that will accomplish two main things: 1) Keep them happy. 2) Keep your profit margins healthy. :-)

Hello! In lots of my videos I talk about looking for value driven clients vs price driven ones. That's really the key. And keep business simple. It's about problems and solutions. Yes... pricing will always be a factor. But if you can become a problem solver for a client, then pricing, at least to an extent, becomes less of a driving factor in their decision making. :-) As for being new, you could try 'free to fee.' So offer a free cleaning, or a free hour, or something like that. You need to be careful to not do this for someone who is just looking to take advantage of you, but if you find one of your ideal clients and the only thing keeping them from hiring you is price, then it's a good thing to try to build trust. Trust is one of the most important things in business, so this is why I recommend you have as many conversations with your ideal clients as you can. Conversations build trust. Paid advertising + websites with pricing calculators do not. So keep the human element in your business as much as you can. Talk to as many people as you can. Build as many relationships as you can. The rest will follow. Just stick with it! :-)
Good morning I.would love to start a daycare/ business cleaning service i would like to do it with more of green not so much chemicals products. i just don’t have the funds for insurance, license, and an accountant. I’m also having issues on what to charge. Any advice.
I have watched a few of your videos and you offer great tips and instruction, thank you. I have a name and am registered but I am still working on the business plan. As a solo female cleaner there are safety concerns. People have shared bad experiences. What do you recommend along this line?
I was a solo residential cleaner for a long time... so I just ensured I only worked for clients I trusted. Only once did a client make me a little uncomfortable, so I stopped working for them. Also my husband always knew where I was going to be too. If you don't have a spouse/partner then you can ask a friend to help with this. And maybe the biggest factor was my clients were word of mouth... which helped me feel safe. But alllll that said you are right to be concerned... so please take the process with each new client slow and make sure you're comfortable. In time you'll have a list of clients who respect you and you love working for. 💕
For hiring 1099, with the new laws going in place, it states that any 1099 contractors, they must be completing work independent of what the companies described work is. How can this be worked around?
I can't give legal advice, so best to do your research or seek counsel on that. But I can absolutely tell you that you should be compliant in your business... so don't view it as 'working around' something but rather doing what it takes to ensure compliance. If you can use contractors then go for it. But if your biz requires W2 employees then go that route. You can build an awesome biz either way! :-)

If you're cleaning for money, then you already have a business. So it's just a matter of making sure you're legal. :-) Governments require what they require... and we never want to skirt the laws. So make it official to protect yourself. :-)

Hello❤ in one of the steps you explained that we should find out if it’s required to be licensed or have a permit in my area… I live in Florida and it’s not required …..so does that mean I make that clear that on my business card?? I've never put this on business cards, or even that I am insured for that matter. I just communicate this when talking to clients. It should go without saying that a reputable business is insured. :-)

Hi there... it's very similar. In many ways, easier. Typically carpet cleaning can be quoted by the SF, where janitorial shouldn't be. In my brief break away from cleaning I actually worked for a commercial carpet cleaning supply company. I sold Cimex's. But my program is geared more towards general janitorial, although the methods I teach for client acquisition would def work for carpet cleaning too. The biggest difference is less recurrence... meaning people usually need cleaning weekly, every other week, etc. Carpet cleaning is more like every 6 months or every year, maybe longer, depending on the case. So you'd need more clients to keep the income coming in. :-)

I’ve been cleaning for nine years now, I live in Canada and I know that there’s a high demand for the services. I’m a single mother but I am completely terrified of starting out because I now work for a cleaning company that I have for years and I have benefits and my taxes are obviously taken care of every pay check. I’m just scared of paying my own insurance, not understanding how to pay my taxes and where to even begin!
It's definitely a risk being a business owner... but I have always been able to persevere through the ups and downs. I just choose to not even make failure an option. But ultimately it just comes down to your goals. Questions to ask yourself: Do you enjoy who you work for? Do you feel you could make a lot more workong for yourself? Would that outweigh the other concerns, like being responsible for your own taxes, being a single mom, etc? Start there. :-) But knowing how to clean properly is half the battle... so you'd be at an advantage there right out of the gate. Business is just problems and solutions. So if you can solve a problem aka clean well... then from there it's just about finding clients. :-)
In residential I never did.... bc I have never looked for volume, but for quality. In the long run thats what leads to having a business you actually enjoy owning. :-)
Do you feel like this market is over saturated? There are competition groups that are willing to charge dirt cheap i hear. It's giving me cause for concern.
We use Google Voice and it works good... it just isn't very fancy. But I always prefer simple. It let's you take and accept calls, text message, and has voicemail... and it's free. :-) Some business owners like more robust services because they have call trees... press 1 for... press 2 for... but in business your goal is to have a conversation with a prospect ASAP. So keep it simple. :-) And for MANY years I used my personal phone number, and that was fine too. Really just depends on your goals with the business.
It depends on your local government. We do not need a license for operating our commercial janitorial business. Nor would we need one if we did residential. But home builders and restaurant owners in my area do need them. So I would call your city/county clerks office and ask. :-)
This is a big topic, and many are way overselling this model unfortunately. I hire out my cleaning, but I'm not just a 'middle man.' This is what leads to long term success. I've been doing this for 20+ years. And it's what leads to happy business owners. :-)

Keep it simple. Hourly rate x length of job. The hard part is learning the clean times and it would be hard to teach that in a UA-cam video. But if you can become a problem solver for a client, then pricing, at least to an extent, becomes less of a driving factor in their decision making. :-) As for being new, you could try 'free to fee.' So offer a free cleaning, or a free hour, or something like that. You need to be careful to not do this for someone who is just looking to take advantage of you, but if you find one of your ideal clients and the only thing keeping them from hiring you is price, then it's a good thing to try to build trust. Trust is one of the most important things in business, so this is why I recommend you have as many conversations with your ideal clients as you can. Conversations build trust. Paid advertising + websites with pricing calculators do not. So keep the human element in your business as much as you can. Talk to as many people as you can. Build as many relationships as you can. The rest will follow. Just stick with it! :-)

I have watched a few of your videos and you offer great tips and instruction, thank you. I have a name and am registered but I am still working on the business plan.
As a solo female cleaner there are safety concerns. People have shared bad experiences. What do you recommend along this line?
I was a solo residential cleaner for a long time... so I just ensured I only worked for clients I trusted. Only once did a client make me a little uncomfortable, so I stopped working for them. Also my husband always knew where I was going to be too. If you don't have a spouse/partner then you can ask a friend to help with this. And maybe the biggest factor was my clients were word of mouth... which helped me feel safe. But alllll that said you are right to be concerned... so please take the process with each new client slow and make sure you're comfortable. In time you'll have a list of clients who respect you and you love working for. 💕

For hiring 1099, with the new laws going in place, it states that any 1099 contractors, they must be completing work independent of what the companies described work is. How can this be worked around?
I can't give legal advice, so best to do your research or seek counsel on that. But I can absolutely tell you that you should be compliant in your business... so don't view it as 'working around' something but rather doing what it takes to ensure compliance. If you can use contractors then go for it. But if your biz requires W2 employees then go that route. You can build an awesome biz either way! :-)

If you're cleaning for money, then you already have a business. So it's just a matter of making sure you're legal. :-) Governments require what they require... and we never want to skirt the laws. So make it official to protect yourself. :-)

@@christydeutsch2075 In most places you are legally required to register your business in some way... whether that be as a sole prop, LLC, etc. So research those requirements where you live. :-)

I've never put this on business cards, or even that I am insured for that matter. I just communicate this when talking to clients. It should go without saying that a reputable business is insured. :-)

Hey there, I was wondering if your business model work for Carpet Cleaning businesses
Hi there... it's very similar. In many ways, easier. Typically carpet cleaning can be quoted by the SF, where janitorial shouldn't be. In my brief break away from cleaning I actually worked for a commercial carpet cleaning supply company. I sold Cimex's. But my program is geared more towards general janitorial, although the methods I teach for client acquisition would def work for carpet cleaning too. The biggest difference is less recurrence... meaning people usually need cleaning weekly, every other week, etc. Carpet cleaning is more like every 6 months or every year, maybe longer, depending on the case. So you'd need more clients to keep the income coming in. :-)

I’ve been cleaning for nine years now, I live in Canada and I know that there’s a high demand for the services. I’m a single mother but I am completely terrified of starting out because I now work for a cleaning company that I have for years and I have benefits and my taxes are obviously taken care of every pay check. I’m just scared of paying my own insurance, not understanding how to pay my taxes and where to even begin!
It's definitely a risk being a business owner... but I have always been able to persevere through the ups and downs. I just choose to not even make failure an option. But ultimately it just comes down to your goals. Questions to ask yourself: Do you enjoy who you work for? Do you feel you could make a lot more workong for yourself? Would that outweigh the other concerns, like being responsible for your own taxes, being a single mom, etc? Start there. :-) But knowing how to clean properly is half the battle... so you'd be at an advantage there right out of the gate. Business is just problems and solutions. So if you can solve a problem aka clean well... then from there it's just about finding clients. :-)

In residential I never did.... bc I have never looked for volume, but for quality. In the long run thats what leads to having a business you actually enjoy owning. :-)

I get mine by targeting/direct outreach, and referrals. Building relationships is key!

We use Google Voice and it works good... it just isn't very fancy. But I always prefer simple. It let's you take and accept calls, text message, and has voicemail... and it's free. :-) Some business owners like more robust services because they have call trees... press 1 for... press 2 for... but in business your goal is to have a conversation with a prospect ASAP. So keep it simple. :-) And for MANY years I used my personal phone number, and that was fine too. Really just depends on your goals with the business.
Do you need licence Cleaning By yourself
It depends on your local government. We do not need a license for operating our commercial janitorial business. Nor would we need one if we did residential. But home builders and restaurant owners in my area do need them. So I would call your city/county clerks office and ask. :-)

Remote cleaning company?
This is a big topic, and many are way overselling this model unfortunately. I hire out my cleaning, but I'm not just a 'middle man.' This is what leads to long term success. I've been doing this for 20+ years. And it's what leads to happy business owners. :-)

Keep it simple. Hourly rate x length of job. The hard part is learning the clean times and it would be hard to teach that in a UA-cam video.
