Jaguar X-type 3.0 V6. The best car you can get for 1000$? Short Review

  • In this video I give a quick review of my 2002 Jaguar X-type.
This car has the 3 liter V6 engine with 231HP. If you’re a bit of a handyman and do it yourself type. Then this is in my opinion one of the best cars to buy in the 1000 to 2000$ range. It has a nice engine, for it’s age it’s fast, it’s not too big, not too small. Parts are easy to find and cheap (speaking for Europe). If you need to do all the repairs and services at the dealer this car might not worth it anymore.
It’s a Jaguar. I love the brand. Even though many people may say you ride around in a pimped Ford Mondeo. Who cares. There is also nothing wrong with Ford. For me this is the best car under 1000$ I bought so far.
    Thank you for watching!
    Cheers

I had one of these as my first car. Red with a manual transmission. Still one of my favorite cars I’ve ever driven. I didn’t own it long as it got totaled. Hope to own another sometime. Maybe a wagon haha

People complain about the Jaguar brand in America, but I think it’s a phenomenal car, brand, they are so cheap and fun to own, it’s like taking care of a puppy. I drive my x type all over New York and the tri state area

I am currently driving a 2.5 x type. Bought it in april, been driving A LOT this year and it did not fail me. Such a trustworthy, beautiful and strong car. I am going to get the 3l version, just for the little features they added to it:)

I like this car, it's not well finished like a BMW, I had the E90 325xi which was noticeably quicker, handles much better, rides better and little better fuel economy, but this car is a lot easier to fix. I replaced all 3 engine and transmission mounts in one hour, changed the transmission fluid in 10 mintues, changed spark plugs, coils and intake gaskets in 2 hours, I replaced the whole front suspension including new struts and wheel bearings in 4 hours. It's very simple to fix and still has a nice ride.

@L. Noordijk Yeah, all you said is that you think. I don't think I'm sure. Away from being an owner of more than 20 BMW's and 4 Jags and also being a mechanical engineer, from the first sight, I can tell you x-type is an exact replica of Ford Fusion, Mondeo and Contour and same awful finishing quality. Don't talk about BMW if you haven't owned it, even Mercedes is far behind. You're only fond of the little cat on hood. 3 series is faster, quicker, rides and handle much better, quieter, smoother on bumps, better dash and seats leather quality, better brake, more options, safer, better engineered by all means and is 10 times more responsive than any Jag I have ever rid. The most important thing is that BMW x drive is way smarter than AWD of the x-type. The x-type has a fixed ratio of 60 to 40 as far as remember, but BMW works with supply on demand and I have many times pulled ahead of Jeeps on snowy streets.

He he that was great fun to watch, when you got to the part about the AWD I didn't expect a tree to be hauled . The sound of that engine and the tree cracking had me in total loud laughter thinking I have 4x4s and big 4wd tractors but I want the X type AWD, fantastic for fun through mud and more messy material to throttle through!!!

Before I bought my Jaguar XE, I had owned 4 X-Types - 2.2d (THE WORST), 2x 2.5 and 1x 3.0 - which was the best. The noise form that V6 is the best V6 sound ever! It's not necessarily the best looking car ever made but it's one of the dearest Jaguars to me.

Great car for the money! I had one of our two (I drive a 2007 and my wife drives a 2008) X-Types out for a 500-mile road trip last Saturday and she was a pleasure to drive. Passing was a breeze with acceleration going from a steady 65 to 100+ with confidence and no real effort on the part of the car. Last year I removed the factory (non-nav) stereo and replaced it with a Kenwood Excelon DMX706S. A Garmin 2598 handles the navigation duties and a Escort Passport 8500 keeps the Highway Patrol at bay.

I ran a 2.0d for 10years, took it up to 175,000 miles. But the sills started rusting again (after being replaced once), the headlights were always poor, the alternator needed replacing and possibly also the injectors so I had to let it go. Pity as it still looked great and handled so well. The V6 would be amazing in this car.

The cassette player is not so useless, as it looks at first glance. This unit can be easily equipped with an AUX by soldering 3 wires to its mother board instead of the cassette deck. If you utilize a 5 pin 3.5 female jack, you can arrange it so that it playbacks music from your phone when the jack is connected and a cassette if the jack is out. The only thing you need is an endless cassette, which can be easily prepared with your own hands. To cut a long story short, CD unit in most cases cannot be so easily equipped with an AUX because in such case all data is transmitted in a digital format.

Any vehicle is going to require maintenance, and the X-Type is no different. I will admit that the X-Type is not an enjoyable vehicle to work on from both a professional and DIY point of view, and that is mostly due to its transverse mounted engine and being AWD. Here in the U.S. the majority of X-Types have had spotty and/or delayed maintenance which makes them an expensive proposition to undertake for a used car costing less than even $5000. My '08 has made the trip from Las Vegas to San Antonio, Texas in 100+ degree (F) heat twice without a peep, and looked great doing it.

Mine needs around 11 liters/100 with a lot of driving at 130 km/h and parts at around 80 km/h. But I have 4 complete tires in it and I use the 2nd gear up to 80 km/h all the time ;-) My Alfa Romeo (which is a little bit lighter but has also only 180 ps) needs about the same amount of gas. So, I think for the power and having a 4 wheel V6 it's quite okay.

Ga je naar de dealer dan betaal je de hoofdprijs, maar doe je alles zelf of bij een kleinere all-round garage dan kan het wel mee vallen.

Why is everthing in germany so expensive? A used car like this is about 2000 € minimum... 😢

Germany always used to be cheaper than the Netherlands when it was about cars. Maybe one day you’ll find a car with a little bit of work. A lot of things can be repaired at home with the help of the internet. Good luck 👍
