John, I made this recipe using whole wheat flour instead of white, added 2 tsp baking powder and 3/4 tsp baking soda. I cut out the sugar but added a ripe banana and 1/2 cup applesauce. Great for my diabetic husband and significant nutritional benefit. Great base recipe and technique😊🎉
I just made Irish soda bread with whole wheat flour, wheat germ and wheat bran and yeah... there was definitely more frequent pooping going on in our home! I have wheat bran leftover so I will be able to try these muffins too. Thanks John! By the way, I hope to make your ricotta cheese cookies soon too since your recipe leaves out an ingredient I don't like that my mother's recipe DOES include. Your recipes also measure by weight so I prefer the accurate method over my mother's old volumetric measure based recipe. I've made your ricotta cheese cookie recipe before so I know it's great!
made these yesterday, only swapped the raisins for half a cup of frozen black and red currants and they turned out to be really good - the interior is super light and fluffy and the top is nice brown, cripsy and lightly nutty in flavour. will stick to this recipe!
I love to add orange or lemon zest to muffins. Also, I sometimes top them with a sprinkle of oats or sunflower seeds! These look great and I can't wait to make a batch.
I love muffins probably because they're somewhere between a cupcake and a bread---makes me feel virtuous instead of decadent. When I'm baking for my grandkids I like to make mini muffins. For one thing they like to have more than one treat on their plates, and also there's less waste. I'm going to make these as soon as I get some bran. I'll probably add raisins, or cranberries, or chopped nuts, plus the suggestion of fallish spices sounds good.
My mom used to make these when I was a child. I loved them, she would use the Post All-bran cereal. I'm going to try this recipe & add dried cranberries to them. (I have been really loving dried cranberries lately 😊)
Bran muffins are my very favorite, followed closely by blueberry muffins. My mom used to make them with Raisin Bran cereal, but I definitely want to try your recipe!
Hi, I will definitely make these! I love your cook book, I have made a lot of dishes and desserts felon your book. I would love to know if you would consider doing another cook book with the focus on your great traditional baking recipes such as your fantastic brownies, crump cake, chocolate chip and sugar cookies? Also your delicious seasonal recipes you do with your family. It’s fun watching you and the family, but it would be great to have a cook book too. 😊
Hi John! Thanks so much for this recipe. Years ago I used to have a good recipe for Bran Muffins but misplaced it. These sound delicious and easy to make. I’m going to double the recipe and keep the extra in the frig. Then in the morning, I can pour out more batter for a fresh batch!
Hi, just wanted to say thank you for this recipe it was delicious! I also used this same recipe but used 100% whole grain Steel cut oats and they were also delicious I did Purify the oats to make it into flour. So thank you so very much.
John. I just made these and they came out delicious. I may try them with apple next time...like someone mentioned in a previous comment. They did stick to the paper cups a bit. I did get the full 12 muffins.
Thank you SO much! I love your show and recipes. I've been looking for a bran muffin recipe that doesn't use Raisin Bran cereal, which so many do now. I love to add broken banana chips. ❤
I bought a new fridge (and I was crying because is the first big purchase I've ever made) and I want to feel it out with muffins, waffles and so, just yo have them ready to heat. I'm definitely adding these to the list!
Wow John these are delicious! They’re not dry like some bran muffins I’ve made and believe me I’ve made a few different recipes. Thank you for this recipe 😊. Also could I increase the amount of raisins or would that weight them down?
I used to work at Whole Foods a bakery team member once told me that they'd "whip" raspberry pate de fruits into the bran muffins. They were very good bran muffins, but then again I'm a fan of bran muffins in general 🤷
I have never had bran muffins but if they taste how I imagine, they sound good. At first I thought you weren't going to put any sugar, but brown sugar?!?! I love anything with brown sugar. I use the dark brown sugar in everything for that extra molasses taste. Coconut, dried cherries, a lot of the mix ins sound good.
Do you have a recipe for wheat bran cereal bread I hope you do cause I haven't found a good one. Thank you for these brand muffins they were delicious!
Love your recipes. Been watching since you started and congrats on your success. Would love to see you incorporate a few recipes with possibly an air fryer or an instapot. Gotta admit these kitchen accessories are a tad intimidating to me. Thanks and keep them coming.
I love bran muffins, but I like them with walnuts. So, I make half with nuts and the other half without. I sprinkle walnuts on top of the ones with nuts so we will know which ones are which!
I love bran muffins especially when I’m trying to eat better. I can’t wait to try this recipe this weekend one question though can you use olive oil instead of vegetable? And also regular sugar instead of brown sugar?
Love your videos!! I was wondering if you could also give the celsius conversion when you state the temperature for the oven? It would make the process smoother when we are fumbling with the different steps. Haha. I’m not from America. What do you think?
Your muffins look great John, and I love your style very cool I always wanted to throw my stuff around the kitchen watching you do it I feel a whole lot better and you got great recipes
?does it matter how many add ins on rising? I was thinking of adding a little grated apple and some nuts and some dried fruit mix leftover from xmas...was thinking 3/4cup???...anyone can answer if allowed
All these comments about add ins of dried fruits, nuts, oats... and here I am like CHOCOLATE CHIPS! :) this looks like a great recipe. I'm going to show it to my mom, sometimes she likes to make muffins without a precise recipe xD

Bran muffins, nature’s broom.

More like nature's Drano...
Lol!! 😆😆

😂
I made them today for my daughters to take back to college . I added in wild blueberries…these muffins are incredible!
Love your cookbook. I add half a grated apple to bran muffins as my husband won’t eat raisins. Makes the muffin so moist and wonderful.
Wow, that’s a great idea. Thank you for sharing. My dad is in love with bran muffins and he likes anything with Apple so I’ll add that also.
I use melted coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. So good! 👍😋
Coconut oil is super high in saturated fat (80%-90%). Not healthy.
I loooooove bran muffins! I'm the weird person who prefers them without any add-ins, but dark chocolate chips are nice.
made these yesterday, only swapped the raisins for half a cup of frozen black and red currants and they turned out to be really good - the interior is super light and fluffy and the top is nice brown, cripsy and lightly nutty in flavour. will stick to this recipe!

These were so good!!! Great recipe!! I made them gluten free with rice bran and gf flour and they turned out great!
I made these and they turned out so yummy! I didn't have buttermilk so I used kefir and I turned it into a loaf and it still came out wondeful
I love muffins probably because they're somewhere between a cupcake and a bread---makes me feel virtuous instead of decadent. When I'm baking for my grandkids I like to make mini muffins. They look delicious 😋 I like adding nuts: walnuts or pecans along with the golden raisins
I’ve made these twice now and they are just incredible. Super soft & doesn’t feel like there’s so much fibre in them 😂❤
Bran muffins are very favourite looks amazing make a great breakfast 🍳 thanks nice sharing
My mom used to make these when I was a child. I loved them, she would use the Post All-bran cereal. I'm going to try this recipe & add dried cranberries to them. (I have been really loving dried cranberries lately 😊)
I made muffins professionally and always used spray oil on the muffin pan and the muffin papers. It’s easy and rewarding.
Just made them! Hubby absolutely loves them as does his mom. Definitely will keep this recipe for future use. Easy to put together and delicious too.
Bran muffins are my very favorite, followed closely by blueberry muffins. My mom used to make them with Raisin Bran cereal, but I definitely want to try your recipe!

Yummy! I love chopped dates and walnuts in my muffins! 😊
Put the nuts and dates and tsp of brown sugar on bottom of muffin liner before pouring in the batter. Caramelized muffin bottom so yummy!
I love them with fresh Apple and Maple Sirup.
Thanks for this quick and amazing recipe. ❤️

When you use cups for liquids, would it be possible for the measurement in millilitres please. Our cups in 🇬🇧 are different to the 🇺🇸
Hi John Happy 2023, just wondering, is your book available in Target stores? Love all the recipes that you make.
These look amazing. My daughter purchased your book, for me for Christmas !
John, can I use flax?
Looks yummy! Could you add any dry fruit - like dried apples?
Would this work with oat bran instead of wheat bran?
I love bran muffins especially when I’m trying to eat better. I can’t wait to try this recipe this weekend one question though can you use olive oil instead of vegetable? And also regular sugar instead of brown sugar?

Definitely walnuts or pecans .dried cherries.
It is funny how you slide your bowls across the counter..I am waiting for the crash🤪
