    Hello Claire! I clicked over to your blog for this recipe and once there I read how your favorite bran muffins were the ones your mom made from the recipe found atop the green Quaker bran box. I’ve located that recipe and thought it would be easiest to share it with you here. If you try them, I hope you find them to be as delightful as you remember them.
    Best wishes!
    INGREDIENTS:
    1/4 c shortening
    1/2 c brown sugar
    1/4 c molasses
    2 eggs
    1 c milk
    1.5 c wheat bran
    1 c flour
    1.5 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    3/4 tsp salt
    1/2 c raisins (optional)
    DIRECTIONS:
    Preheat oven to 400’
    Line 12 muffin cups with paper liners.
    Cream together shortening and sugar.
    Add molasses and eggs, beating well.
    Add milk and bran.
    In separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Then add to the wet mixture.
    Stir in raisins if using.
    Divide among muffin tins and bake for 18-20 mins.

    Thank you, Mrs. Tansey! I saw this video about a year ago, and I have been making these muffins ever since! I use more raisins than your recipe suggests, but that's the only change I've made. I recently took some to my co-worker and she loved them. We heated them in the microwave and I brought some vegan butter with me and coped your serving suggestion. Thanks SO MUCH! Your video was just what I was looking for.

    You mention in the video 1 cup of raisins but your recipe says 1/2 cup. I searched for Raisin Bran muffins on UA-cam and found your recipe. I made them today and they are amazing. I used 3% yogurt as I need to watch my fat intake. I used 1 cup of raisins. I used Grapeseed oil and they turned out amazing! Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe! I’m making another batch tomorrow lol

    Thank you! I’m a huge fan of hearty baked goods, so bran muffins are a fave. And now that I have a recipe, I can thankfully control the amount of raisins added (store/bakery-bought contains too many, in my opinion...like a mouthful of raisins in every bite 😔), and I get to substitute the egg. My muffins are in the oven now and I can’t wait to try them. Oh and I can totally relate to being too impatient to wait for something straight out of the oven to cool down and taking a steaming hot bite 👀

      Had the same link issue and listed what measurements (for the most part) that were not mentioned. For the cinnamon & ginger powder, go with what favor profile you want more/less of… In case anyone runs into the link not working…
      1 1/2 tsp baking powder
      1/2 tsp baking soda
      1/2 tsp salt
      1 cup full fat yogurt

    I don't eat vegetable oils so I used 1/2 butter and 1/2 coconut oil. I also used 1/2 Allulose, 1/2 brown sugar to reduce sugar. The muffins turned out moist and delicious.
    While eating one, I looked up and discovered that bran is full of lectins. Perhaps that's why bran muffins have fallen out of popularity.
    Well, I satisfied my craving. Time to move on to healthier choices.

    I put my wheat bran in the freezer. Thank you for this recipe. When I want to make another batch, do I use the wheat bran straight out of the freezer and use it OR do I need to let it sit

      It's pretty critical for the flavour and colour. You could use honey which would have a different flavour, but still yummy!

    How long should you bake if making Jumbo muffins?

      Hmm, I'm not sure; do you know the volume of the muffin cups? In general, I'd say add 5 minutes (and maybe reduce the heat by 25 degrees)

    Hi, tried your muffins and the techniques you gave, came out wonderful. The molasses is the star of the recipe, with the dark brown texture. Love it. Can I substitute milk instead of yogurt as I would be buying yogurt only for this purpose and the rest goes to waste. I used some left over sour cream and it turned out fine. Thanks for the tips keep up the good work.

      The texture won't be quite the same so you'll need to increase the flour and bran. You could also use small containers of either plain or vanilla yogurt if that helps with portions. Hope that helps!

      You cannot use oat bran! It's absorbent and will result in bricks, not muffins! Yes, you can use buttermilk.

      Unfortunately no, you need the wheat bran (oat bran absorbs too much liquid)

    My husband and I weren't big fans of the flavor of these muffins, sadly. I followed the recipe to a tee. I am not a molasses fan, so maybe I was doomed from the start. The molasses flavor is quite strong and I didn't care for the ginger. I like the use of yogurt and no granulated sugar, so I will try again, using pure cane syrup and with more cinnamon and no ginger. We'll see if we like the recipe better.
    I'm sure many people like these muffins, but they aren't for us.
