You only cook the spices for as long as it takes to toss the food? (less than 10 seconds). Most of it would still be raw. I would stir the spices into heated oil in the pan so they are already evenly cooking before adding the chips, chicken then veg. I never knew this was Irish, but I have been cooking this for dinners for years using meat, diced veg and spice mix from packets (chicken shawarma and Korean bbq are good) or just improvise with whatever I fancy on the night.
Thanks for the feedback. I prepared the spices as intended for an authentic spice bag. Cooking them might deepen flavors, but it's not true to the original recipe. Having said that I think I will take your idea and give it a bash next time.
@@PotOfPlenty Hope you like it.😃 Perhaps I should have stressed don't burn the spices - only heat them through for a few seconds to open up the flavours. It's just that by sprinkling dry spices over the ingredients then tossing them, a lot of the spices are not going to even touch the hot pan.✌
@mimikurtz2162 I hear ya, a lot of 'boring' stuff gets edited out, people have the attention span of a goldfish, so a lot of footage ends up on the floor. I'd love to leave more stuff in but the yt studio watch retention metrics tell me the channel will die if I don't keep the pace up.
Excellent video! I was just wondering what exact chili powder (e.g. brand) you use? In the U.S., "chili powder" is a mixture of spices, typically used in Tex-Mex cooking. In Ireland, I would imagine chili powder contains only one ingredient...a specific ground chili pepper.
Just uploaded a short with me spinning the jar. It doesn't give the exact type of chili pepper used but it does say it includes cumin (7%), oregano and garlic powder
Good video shame the music is to load can't hear you explain ingredients. Not sure why UA-camrs have to spoil there videos with music blaring. Apart from that I will watch again with subtitles and try myself looks so good.😊
Everything was going so well until the weird rap-rock hit. What a ride. Looking forward to making my own spice bag, gonna do it with fish and szechuan peppercorn powder to give it that ma la flavor I love so much.

@aliciastage I'd recommend the spice bag, very tasty and it's hugely popular. Happy Christmas! ⛄ PS: I've an improved spice bag recipe, I uploaded the video about two months ago.
Despite the longest intro and shiteist music ever, I' m pleased I stuck it out to reach the good cooking stuff. That sound isn't music, its some inebriates smashing up your kitchen... Thanks. Delicious. Only 4000 calories a serving! Could I suggest adding a slurp of honey?
It's kind of like nacho fries. Fries with taco sauce ground beef, onions, Hatch Green Chilis, bell pepper (optional), chili beans, avocado, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese
Curry sauce is not a standard part of the spice bag it's a very popular addition to a spice bag. If you could do a little search on my channel I have a video that covers several of the most popular Corey sauces that go with the spicebag. Your timing is perfect would you believe I'm making another spice bag right now....
Hey there! Just to clarify, the original spice bag has never included curry sauce-it’s always been an optional extra that people could add on top. By the way, I’ve got a video about curry sauces coming up soon, so stay tuned!
WAYYY... too much salt. I've made up another batch sans salt and added a bit under half of the first batch to it. So maybe try 2.5 tsps of salt, not 6.
