    So generous!! Beginning of the video you can barely hear someone wish for a cutting of Pauls fig tree and instantly he begins pulling up shoots with roots and starts giving them away. Love this guy!!! Back to Eden Gardening is awesome! Paul doesn't sell anything, just generously gives away what God gives him!! Wisdom! You can't out give God!

    Thanks for all of these brilliant video clips you have been sharing. I live in Australia and am very unlikely to be able to visit Paul. Through watching these videos that you have taken the time to record, edit and upload I have learnt heaps about mulching, pruning, chickens and many other things which I can apply to my own gardens, and then can share with others. Thanks HEAPS! I've watched almost 100 of your videos now.

    Now I have an idea as to how to prune my fig tree. It was down to the ground when we moved in. I didn't even know there was a tree there. Now years later it has grown limbs everywhere. I wasn't sure what to do with it, but now I know. Thanks for the video and the teaching lesson.

    Thanks for doing the Fig first - I was just thinking yesterday that it was time to prune mine - and I suffered from a lot of sucker growth this summer but I didn't know what to do with them. I appreciate this

    I cut all my parenials down to ground level every Jan., Always a renewal.Any cuttings ,I usually smash the end I cut to absorb water for 2-3 days before I replant. I do this to all my plants , roses , ruellas, and lantana.

    Oh no, I purchased one of these and put it in a bigger pot, because I thought I could grow it in a pot, but now I can see that will be impossible because they get so big. Too bad, there was no tag on this and the place I bought it from had no one there that knew anything about it. Al, she could tell me was that it was good for zone 5.

    thanks for posting. I've just bought a house and it has a fig tree similar to this, with loads of suckers growing from the base, and now I know how to prune it! And the cut off branches will be going straight into the shredder to make wood chips for mulch! :)

    I was most interested to see what you were doing with this fig tree. My tree has not been pruned for a few years and has a stem diameter of about 6inches. In addition the figs are now getting so high off the ground that we lose a lot to the birds. The fig is a small purple one and has a very nice taste when ripe. It is planted on a boundary in an urban area and I am also having to cut off major branches to stop it encroaching (or continuing to) on the neighbours property. My question is that if I undertake a major prune will the tree survive? (I am in New Zealnd and about 41 degrees south).

    Thanks for this video. I have a similar fig tree and after watching I pruned the bottom and cleared the starters and took off a couple of low lying branches but am not sure how to prune the top. It has grown tall and has lots of shoots growing on top. Already forming leaves too. Should I cut off the tops where I am not going to be able to pick fruit from anyway?

    • @L2Survive
      @L2Survive  9 років тому +1

      zinfandoll Yes then stick those cuttings into the ground and start another fig tree.

    My Dad has a fig, here in Victoria, B.C. & it is not got the growth as yours does. It it planted near a more or less 60 ft Beech, that is on the neighbors property. Being a green fig, maybe the Beech is taking all the water. The animals get the first crop, & we get some of the second. Should any pruning be done? Make sense?

    • @L2Survive
      @L2Survive  10 місяців тому +1

      I was just watching some footage from the 7-17-16 tour and Paul said that the coldest it has been on his property is 4°. ua-cam.com/video/T7UDD1bw9ik/v-deo.htmlsi=aphYYvy8pTB_KkRJ&t=8153 His trees are still alive so, I would guess at least that low. The internet says Hardy to between 0° & 5° F.

    The desert king is only good for the breba crop (1st crop). The main crop figs need the fig wasp to ripen.

    • @brettm3261
      @brettm3261 7 років тому

      When your soil is good and you have those established roots, yes, that's all you have to do.

    • @DeborahCheng
      @DeborahCheng 6 років тому

      watch closely, those first couple sticks he pulled up had started to develop their own roots. So, yes, those you can put it in the ground directly. The sticks he sawed or cut off won't do.

    Alder trees also associate with nitrogen fixing bacteria and would help supply nitrogen to other plants via their leaf mulch.

    • @L2Survive
      @L2Survive  9 років тому

      Cryptlord9999 Leaves are a huge part of the process.

    • @Cryptlord9999
      @Cryptlord9999 9 років тому

      L2Survive Most Alder species also make excellent coppice trees to supply firewood, or you can utilize it for smoking meats with, excellent wood for smoking fish. You can even sell the wood to people to use for smoking meats with, depending on how much land you have and how many alders you plant. The alder tree is an excellent multi use tree, can supply firewood, wood for various carpentry applications, meat smoking, fixes nitrogen in the soil and makes excellent leaf mulch.

  • @sunnysharma1701
    @sunnysharma1701 3 роки тому +1

    He did everything wrong. Desert king only produces on last year's 1 year old wood, not the thicker 2-4 year old wood. He literally chopped away all the new fig producing wood with a shovel, I've never seen anything so crude and wrong in my life. It showed he knew nothing about what he was doing when he answered all of the onlooker's questions with jokes and deflections.

    If, as Paul says....nature is perfect, then why is pruning necessary?

    • @L2Survive
      @L2Survive  9 років тому +1

      dlipter Pruning is not necessary for a trees purpose, which is propagation of itself. It is necessary for us because we like for things to be in order and low enough for us to pick without a ladder.

      L2Survive Thanks for the answer! And thank you for these videos which are spiritually nourishing and informative.

    • @Cryptlord9999
      @Cryptlord9999 9 років тому +3

      L2Survive Technically in nature trees would not be protected from herbivores, so things like deer, elk, moose etc would "prune" the trees by munching on them, branches would break off during storms and heavy snowfall. Nature does thin itself out and prune itself, it just takes longer, doesn't look as pretty and might not preserve the health of the tree as well as a person making specific and precise cuts.
      However, it is very easy for people to over prune larger, heavier trees, trees react to their environment and as such they also balance their weight to prevent falling/tipping over or snapping. If an individual makes too many cuts on one side of the tree, it can cause the trees weight to become unbalanced, making it more susceptible to falling over or snapping in storms or heavy/wet snowfall.

  • @stwarbig

    You made a serious mistake when cutting all the one-year-old trunks
    that have the BREVAS... so you should not prune, you must cut the oldest trunks that are the largest ...
