  • Y'all have been asking for this one for a really long time now and i finally was able to get it done for you! Now I've recorded a couple pruning videos in the past but I didn't have the gimbal and there was no snow on the ground in the videos... so that said they basically sucked haha. the videos were always shaky and the branches always blended into the wood chips on the ground making it really hard to pick up on camera! Paul wanted to do some pruning today and while I was out with him I was like "hey we should try to make another video with the snow and see if it helps with capturing the branches on camera"... and so thats what we did! I hope this video helps you and you enjoy it! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

    I've watched over 8hrs a day in my beginning plant ventures 4yrs ago watching Paul and hearing his words of wisdom. I've studied and memorized everything he said and thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm also a man of Christ from the Tribe of Issachar so according to the Testament Of Issachar it's funny how I found the garden first and then the bible next to realize my Forefather Issachar was married to husbandry. I wish this video was longer and look forward to turning deserts into food forests with my farm land lots from your inspiration. Blessings 💚🌱🙏🏽👊🏽

    Love what you’ve done with this video. Paul knows trees and you know trees so a lot was unsaid which the people that don’t know trees could have learned from. I would love if Paul and you had the time if you did a A to Z of orchard tree installation, training into Paul’s form, and then pruning. This I think is the missing piece in all of the videos of Paul’s method at his property. Still a brilliant video cheers!

    My Hart goes out to Paul for he doesn't give up and he keeps sharing his wisdom . I wish Doctors would stop treating the symptom and fix the problem so this man could walk again and start a teaching class on this stuff . The world needs people like him just like we needed Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter . If the people in this world would study people like paul and Steve and stop all the bad thing that they do and learn things that is productive no one would ever go hungry in the world and no animal would ever have to be killed for food ever again . This man is a true pioneer and should be treated as one. Thanks Paul for your service and for your teaching

    I learned a lot from this video I have pear trees better about 4 years old I got blooms for the first time this summer 2020 and hoping that is summer coming 2021 I will finally have pears I am having the same experience with my Peach trees here in Indiana I tried to be selectively with the right fruit trees so at least they're not dead but pruning was rocket science to me until today I can't wait to get up in the morning and get at it with the pear trees. It's so simple and I understand now and I'm so excited. Words of wisdom to me were " it's not a science it's art"💖🙌 I really understood that. Also thank you for the knowledge about the rabbits. I have thought about getting two or three this spring for the grandkids and the garden compost. I can't express how grateful that I am I feel the presence of God and lead to such a greater and beautiful understanding and knowledge as I continue to research through your vlogs. I hope to see more winter projects

      Basically, if you want to keep a tree small and manageable, prune it around the Summer Solstice. If you want to encourage exponential growth and branching, prune when it's dormant- Winter time.

    Most apple orchardists seem to promote a central leader. I am drawn to this “outward and downward” style. It would seem to really facilitate picking. Still, in our Southern California mountains the sun is brutal in the summer. I fear that those exposed main branches would be destroyed on the tops from sunburn. From my experience here at over 5000 feet there needs to be leaf cover.

    • @bluebird9193
      @bluebird9193 3 роки тому +2

      I was told by an orchardist here in CA we can’t prune this way bc our summers are long & hot, the sun would damage the limbs if they were that exposed.

      One way is to plant a tree and let it grow lol. If you aren’t overly concerned with aesthetics, height etc. nature grows tree pretty well. I would remove crossing and rubbing branches however. I’ve done this with a few trees myself and they are extremely healthy and large. You will get a much larger and taller tree, it’s good for a yard and creates a good natural habitat. Not the best for easy picking though... more of a habitat restoration with some fruit as a bonus. That will give you shade! Try looking into permaculture food forests

      @ronniemcmaster8657 3 роки тому +5

      I've started pruning my peach trees the way he prunes the apples. The fruit will pull them down. I have branches from my plum and peach trees that are lying on the ground when the fruit comes in. The higher branches have had issues with breaking off from being too heavy on two of my peach trees. It is great to be able to harvest so much while standing or even sitting, instead of climbing a latter.

    I wonder what Paul would say about grafting in to poorly selected varieties of young established trees? I planted a lot of red delicious, honey crisp, and gala trees because I thought I got a deal. They are not good trees for here and I doubt they will ever do well, but they have been in the ground in wood chips for 3 years now and have established roots. I'm curious if there would be benefit to grafting in more disease resistant scions in and slowly eliminate the original tree branches.

      Trees also aren’t planted in nature they grow from seed and never get stressed from being dug up and replanted like they would be when you buy a tree and plant it in your orchard. I’d let them do their thing and then thin the fruit off the first year.

    I have a question. It seems like the main branches of those fruit trees keep getting longer and longer. At some point will the main branches become too long? According to the laws of leverage, they can’t keep getting longer when it’s only supported by one trunk. Is there a need to prune those big long branches at some point?

    • @GrowingBackToEden
      @GrowingBackToEden  3 роки тому

      Every year your bring them back some. The big trees in the orchard are 40 years old and haven’t had problems with said last of leverage. Yes some bigger branches get taken out when they get in the way but all branches get long at some point. The tree isn’t like a building or something created my man. It was designed in a way that it can adapt and grow and strengthen itself as needed to sustain its health and vigor.
